1 Southland Mall Hayward, CA 94545 "Fruity Froyo" is a walk-up frozen dessert shop inside Southland Mall in Hayward, CA. It's located near the Macys store. I was there on a warm Saturday afternoon. The name says "fro-yo," but they don't serve purely frozen yogurt. When I was there, they also had gelato and sorbet. The labels on the machines tell you what you're about to dispense. I tried a few flavors like choc/vanilla swirl, pineapple, watermelon, strawberry/ orig swirl. The only one I really enjoyed was watermelon, which was either sorbet or gelato. It was sweet, icy and super refreshing. This is a self-service "pay-by-weight" fro-yo shop. Stopped here before catching a movie with my nephew and started a cup of yogurt. The candy topping taste very old. The peach rings looked off and tasted off. The mini Reese's taste stale. They appear a few minutes after you chill around the toppings area wondering where they are. Food: The flavors be aiiite. They have a decent selection of flavors, but out of all the flavors, usually only one is good. I really liked the cappuccino flavor. Everything else was either mehh or BLEHK. Price: Idk...but it came to a total of $17 for 3 bowls filled to near the brim of the bowl. Semi-pricey for yogurt? I think so. BEWARE: I witnessed a customer use a spoon to taste-test the yogurt from the machine, put it in her mouth and then proceed to use the same spoon to taste 2 other flavors! Froyo costs $.43/oz. No tax is added. Napkins and plastic spoons are available at the counter. Yo-Bowl is also at the mall. They charge $.38/oz. I would have saved $1.23 if I went there. The selection of toppings is better here, though. You also have more freedom (at the Yo-Bowl kiosk, the cashiers basically do everything). Anyway, I'll find out which froyo tastes better down the road (my wife is curious about Yo-Bowl too). I'm not sure (I wasn't able to find any helpful info online), but a small cup here may hold 12 oz. of froyo, and a large may hold 20 oz. (At other locations, there are typically 3 sizes to choose from.) My wife didn't add any toppings. She got a little over 9 oz. of froyo for $3.91 (she tried 2 flavors). I went crazy (I never buy froyo). My total was $10.58 (my cup weighed 24.6 oz.). I tried 6 of the 12 flavors and loaded up on toppings (I got about 20 oz. worth of froyo). Some people even stared at me (I, um, did share a little with my son- he was messing around, and so I ended up grabbing 3 spoons). A friend & I met up at Southland and she wanted Tutti Fruitti so we shared one - I would say out of all the flavors that was provided only one stood out to me (which is kind of sad since I wish there were more flavors that were good). ..the only flavored I enjoyed from this time of the year was the praline and I will probably come back to get this flavor with the array of toppings they have (they have a pretty decent selection). But it is a fro-yo place that is close to home and if I am craving for some fro-yo and I really really want some, I guess I can come here to get some since it's not that bad. Tutti Frutti is one of the best place if you want something good to eat in a hot day. Their frozen yogurt is really refreshing and they also have a lot of toppings. Right by Macys at the Southland mall. I like the bright setting and overall it is pretty decent.

My son likes to eat here, so I'm guessing the yogurt is good, and i do like that it appears to be clean. The yogurt bowls are super big, so we don't fill it all the way up because he'd never finish it. There is a large jar at the register marked "TIPS", and that really doesn't sit well with me. I mean, after all, this is a 100% self serve shop. You go and grab your cup, dispense your own yogurt, select and sprinkle your own toppings, weigh your cup and pay. The tables and chairs are in the common area of the mall, so there are not even tables that the employees have to bus. So I am not sure where operating a cash register would warrant a tip ? read more

Two cents per ounce difference between this place and the food court crepe place. $0.39/oz here. 20 and 40? oz cups to choose from. Cup weight deducted. I used the larger of the two sizes of cups, and stuffed it with fruit and several flavors of frozen yogurt including Tutti Frutti, Orange, and Mango and Strawberry. For toppings, I stuffed in a load of Mandarin oranges, pineapples, grapes, and walnuts. I like that they have a lot of fruit-flavored frozen yogurts. Seating is cool...several tables with chairs. Within range of one of two wifi hotspot zones. I don't know if the wifi spots are intentional, provided by the mall or what. I give this place three stars because how I do love it (the watermelon flavor especially), I don't appreciate the LAZINESS in the cutting of the fruit. Now I do understand the price goes by weight, and that may be the ploy (which makes me not want to go there, because I feel like they're trying to get over on me), however this trickery makes me limit my toppings, which in turn makes me spend less! Get the picture? For instance cutting large strawberries in half, this is RIDICULOUS, I don't want pieces of fruit in my yogurt I can't even fit on my spoon!!!
