Very typical middle America neighborhood diner. Even though pretty pedestrian, I just love being in one. Whether in my town, or anytime I'm visiting or passing through another town. I love the familiar menus that have the same standards wherever you go. But there can be a specialty to a particular locale, this one has a strong Mexican section on the menu. I love the down-home hospitality most bring. I love when the staff knows their regulars, just makes it so cozy and comforting for me. This diner has probably been around for decades; the building and layout just exclaim it. But I'm betting that it hasn't been the same owners the whole time. In my few visits, I'm guessing it is owned by a Mexican-American family now. Hot Roast Beef Sandwich ($17/3.5*) Pretty much hofbrau style, a monster open faced sandwich meant to be eaten with a fork and knife. Thin slice of sourdough bread buried on the bottom, that you probably won't even notice until much later due to the mountain of food that is on top of it. Topped with mashed potatoes, thin slices of roast beef, in which they use tri tip here. Then smothered with a thick institutional gravy that is stodgy but tasty. And a good side of actually nice steam veggies to balance everything out. I did find the beef to be so-so, pretty well done but at least not dry. I was super hAngry one early evening and I was able to kill this whole plate. Satisfying but probably wouldn't get again, a one n done. Weekday Power Breakfast ($11/4*) This is only available on the weekdays and only for limited part of the morning. It is your basic breakfast plate, but you can choose on how to customize it. I did eggs over easy, sausage links and country potatoes. Pretty basic but done really well and cleanly. More finesse on my breakfast out than my dinner out. You can choose pancakes or a waffle if you want something sweetish on your breakfast plate. Eggs were perfect, nice golden yolks. Sausage links were much bigger than your standard, but you only got 2. Very soft texture and mild sage flavor. The potatoes were diced waxy potatoes, so it had a creamy sweetness to it. Also spiced a bit with a tasty paprika seasoning and sauteed with onions and bell pepper. Classic. Their coffee is average diner level coffee. I didn't love it, but it did the job. Can't have breakfast at a diner and not have coffee. At least my conditioning/repetition has me believing so. Got a Fried Chicken Plate ($20/3.5*) for take-out on another evening and it was a monster portion. Chicken was nicely fried with a salty crust, that wasn't crazy crisp. But maybe my take-out format caused some lost for texture. Still tasty, with mashed potato, white gravy this time and lots of steamed veggies. Also comes with a salad. I was able to stretch this out to 3 meals which kinda surprised me. Like the roast beef plate, more filling and satisfying than it was 'wow'. But for a neighborhood diner, you simply cannot expect 'wow' food. But you can expect comfort and familiarity. And to that Manor Grill delivered. read more

If you luv sysco canned processed food then you'll just luv this place. Nothing but the greasy eggs are made fresh here. And $20 for dried up chic strips and a small dry waffle. The gravy is tasteless and watery. The (mostly breading) chick fried steak was made 2 weeks ago and air fried ...w/ the watery tasteless gravy, its really yummy!!!! Not!!! I don't know what restaurant all the positive reviews went to. Or just conditioned to $$$$ crappy food. But Don't waste your time, and definitely don't waste your $$$ here. Let me start with the outstanding service! Greeted and sat down immediately. We sat in a window facing booth. Place was super clean and very large. Water and drinks brought. We ordered and were served the most enormous plates! First came the jalapeño poppers, hot and cheesy with ranch. Then came my friends small salad before her main meal of chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and vegetables. My other friend had a giant Cobb salad with 2 dressings on the side, and I had steak fries. None of us could finish! This is my families go to spot after church and even tho the menu has over 100 items, I can't stay away from the chicken fried chicken! It's amazing 10/10. I'm giving Manor Grill 5 stars for its quality as a diner, since I don't think it's fair to compare it to other types of restaurants. (It also deserves more than the 3.6 stars it currently has on this website, which almost kept me from going there.) Three friends and I had lunch there today, and all four of us were impressed with both the service and the food. Our server was friendly and efficient, and anticipated our needs. Every single meal was delicious, and the portions were large enough that we took boxes home. The vegetables that came with my dish were very fresh and cooked perfectly (I admit that I expected them to be canned or mushy). Finally, we felt that the prices were very reasonable. Very good service and just good old school charm to this small restaurant. I had a Mushroom Burger and Fries for late morning breakfast or very early lunch. Very satisfied with the burger and fries for around $14. Friends had an omelette, biscuits and gravy, pork tamale (they said it was only ok) while the breakfasts were a good size. 1st time visiting this place! The menu has something for EVERYONE! The service was excellent and my breakfast was yummy! I got basic eggs, bacon, toast with grits. Unfortunately the grits were not fully cooked and were a little crunchy. With roots in the Southern states..I expected soft thick no crunch grits. But not to fret..I ordered corn-beef hash instead and wow..did I say wow?! Excellent replacement. Others at the table had the potatoes with green/red peppers...they were seared perfectly and flavorful. Definitely visiting again! We have come here a couple of times now and like the vibe of this diner. There is plenty of seating when you walk in though we noticed even on a busy day there is one whole side of the diner they don't normally open. But there's a bathroom on that side too. We have ordered the chicken and waffles, two egg plate with a biscuit on the side, the huevos rancheros, and the waffle with bacon plate. The food normally comes up pretty fast, under 10 minutes. However the food itself is pretty average. The chicken in the chicken and waffles were just chicken tenders and my partner was turned off that it was served on a separate plate than the waffles switch salad on it. The huevos rancheros was also a little off, with the beans being pretty bland and and the salad and salsa also lacking flavor. Maybe it's just that we haven't found the plates that are really good here, but we have found the food to be just alright. On a busy day, parking can be pretty tough to find since the restaurant has a small lot and there's a busy church across the street so there's not an abundance of parking. read more

This place has been on my todo list for a while. Today I stopped in. I walked in fairly early this morning. The place was a bit quiet but looked okay. I was greeted quickly by a server and told I could sit anywhere I liked. I walked past a group of 6 men sitting together and one of them actually greeted me. My apologies to this gentleman (I didn't greet him back in my confusion) I was taken completely off guard. Im not used to encountering such friendly folk. I went to a table far from the door to avoid any cold blasts from door openings. Coffee was offered and came to the table quick. Hot and tasty. That's a point for them. I ordered a breakfast skillet from their rather comprehensive menu after my server recommended them when I asked her the "What's good?" question. It was raining outside and it was nice to have a hot cup of coffee in warm place. A pair of San Leandro's finest came in and sat at the table next to me. We chatted a bit. Nice guys. My food arrives it looks fantastic and smells fresh. I dig in and YUM, It was delicious. As I'm enjoying my meal a third man in blue enters and joins the other two. I can't help but notice the stripes on his shoulder so I make a joke about them having to behave now because the boss is here. He turns it back on me and asks "Oh you have to behave?" I chuckled and told him I had decided that when they arrived. We all laughed. I got the run down on the place by these three regulars and we all agreed it had the vibe of the "Cheers" bar from the old TV show. The conversation continued and there was some common memories we shared about the area and some other things. I understand sometimes there's just off days where they were probably super busy because it was Friday night, but when I was paying and gave a tip to the waiter that served us because he did a good job serving us he just snatched the tip out of my hand and threw it on the desk, with no thank you or thank you for coming and he just snared at me. The hubby and I came for dinner after having this place recommended. I ordered the quesadilla suiza, but asked them to hold the mushrooms. I was surprised by the size of the quesadilla. We had event across the street Saturday morning arrived a hour early noticed this restaurant in the middle of a neighborhood right off of 880. What a gem the service was welcoming. The young ladies seated us right away served us in under 10 minutes. The biscuit and gravy with side of sausage patty(3) in one order unbelievable. Also ordered scrambled eggs crunchy hash and sausage yum yum hash brown were perfectly crisped and soft inside. Yes I dipped my sausage Pattie's on that gravy.
