    Pork Chop

Don't let the 3.5 star average rating fool you. This place is pretty good. The buttered bread starter was yummy. The salads were super unique and really tasty. I had the pork chop entree and it was delicious. Our server Kayla was fantastic. To be fair, the visit did have a couple flaws. My wife's steak was overcooked and the soda came in super small glasses which resulted in lots of refills. Overall, I was very happy with the dinner experience and I'm sure I'll be back soon.

Such a lovely and spacious nautical-inspired restaurant overlooking the waters by Marina Park in San Leandro. Came on a Saturday with a noon reservation, and there were lots of parking. Once entering the restaurant, I really enjoyed the ambiance and feeling like I was in a beautiful old-school ship with tall windows letting in a lot of natural light. We got grilled salmon, fish and chips, and key lime pie for dessert. Service was warm and attentive, they were really wonderful. This is a great spot with an upscale feel in San Leandro, perfect for dates and nice outings.

First time visiting Horatio's and it was nice to try. We believe our server may have been a little new because we made some alterations to some of our orders that did not come through, but she was very pleasant and was trying her best, which we appreciated! The food came out nice and hot, which is always appreciated, and overall we enjoyed our meals. Would recommend the oven roasted artichoke and crab dip to start. My friend said the cajun chicken fettuccine was on the spicier side, so just be aware if you don't like to eat very spicy foods. Both my companions ordered the clam chowder and agreed it was well worth it! We had lunch on a lovely day too, so we could enjoy the views of the marina. I will definitely like to try more options here in the future :)

    "Irish coffee" but not exactly

We found this place online and liked the idea of the ambiance setting as it's on the water. BIG MISTAKE. Mediocre food, mediocre Service, and DECEIVING!! Drinks from the bar took quite awhile, although it was legitimately busy on a Sunday afternoon with a lot of church folk. (Got a modelo at one point and it was poured in like a hurricane glass, not a real pint glass which just irked me.) We started with the trio appetizer which was honestly good! The crab and shrimp artichoke dip was a bit on the oily side, but good tasting all the same. The problem were the entrees. The food took long as well. The waiters at one pint came to us and said "I saw your food in the window but we've got runners today so they should bring it out shortly." Basically saying that she was going to leave that for them entirely instead of her just bringing our meals out herself. That really confused us as to why one around even admit that, and we still just hope we interpreted wrong. My brother in law got the burger and asked for medium, it was way overcooked so much to the point where he asked for them to make a new one. I get it this happens from time to time. They also put my Cajun seasoned fries on his plate when I was supposed to get them; instead of just making some new fries they brought me out a whole new French dip which was nice. The French dip was ok, a little too heavy on the horse radish for me. My brother in law told me his burger was average at best. Here's where it went south for us. My sister ordered the shrimp scampi, expecting a shrimp scampi. Instead she got some shrimp with mashed potatoes. We inquired with our waitress immediately who told us, "oh no that's definetly a shrimp scampi." We immediately asked again and she poti de out the menu description where it did indeed list it as pretty much shrimp and masked potatoes. Accepting the fact that we didn't read the menu description, we also told her we never really thought that a shrimp scampi would require a look in on the description. We then told her nicely and politely, that's just not a shrimp scampi. She then chose to gaslight us, saying that the way we know shrimp scampi's are "from back in the old days" whatever the hell that's supposed to mean. After that she continued to insist and gaslight us further. Us being Sure of ourselves we looked up shrimp scampi's on our phones and didn't see anything that fit the image of what my sister had in front of her. We got annoyed at that point, lost our appetite with the mediocre food and the deceiving menu and asked to close our tab and take the food home. Someone should have a serious talk with the chef and explain to him/her what shrimp scampi is. And from now on if you insist on still naming it a shrimp scampi while still serving an entirely different dish, at least communicate with guests on what they will actually be receiving. My brother in law asked for an Irish coffee and instead got a watered down coffee with some Jameson in it. We thought about saying something but didn't want the waitress to start in with her "back in the old days" bs again. Needless to say we won't be returning

Haven't been to Horatio's in years. Food was decent, ribeye was juicy and cooked well. Hubs got the scallops and he said they were tasty. Place seems a little dated and could use a nice remodel.

We came here for dinner on a weeknight and were seated promptly. They have tables overlooking the Bay which make for a great view of the sunset and the water. They also have some kind of an outdoor patio seating. Parking is plentiful and the restaurant has a nautical themed decor. Our server, Jessica, was great! She walked us through the menu, informed us of the popular dishes and checked on us often. We got some drinks which were well made. We started off with the crab and artichoke dip - a tasty dip with some crispy baguette. They also bring you their house garlic bread which is delicious! We got the Admiral's feast - a three course menu where you can choose a soup/ salad, main and dessert. The clam chowder was good and the Caesar salad was standard. Next, the sirloin was perfectly cooked as requested. This was served with some asparagus (which sadly lacked seasoning) and mashed potatoes. The salmon was also cooked to the desired done ness (medium rare) and served with fingerling potatoes and fresh vegetables. Dessert was creme brulee the only option in the set menu which was standard. Portions are decent sized and I needed to take some of my food back home! Overall, a decent place for a leisurely meal.

Haven't been to Horatio's since I was a teen. It's sits off in the marina by El Torito's and Marina Inn. Nice size parking lot but not very well lit. The restaurant itself is a little on the darker side but the aesthetic gives port or ship vibes. The service was a bit slow. It took an hour to receive the incorrect order, while noticing that larger tables sat after us already had their food. We received the taster platter but the bread was burnt. 4/10 I had the grilled shrimp scampi with mashed potatoes and asparagus. Good flavor but wasn't hot. Nice size shrimp. The potatoes had seized and the asparagus- thin and overcooked!! 6/10 Lobster bisque was flavorful but came late. 8/10 The crab and shrimp pasta was well seasoned and a nice portion. Quite rich. 8/10 Perhaps just an off night. Willing to try again in the future

This spot is quite close to Oakland Airport, making it a convenient stop on our way home. We've visited here four times, but my husband has said it will be our last. I genuinely love the cozy feeling of sitting in a boat's hull and enjoying the beautiful view. Our waitress, Angelina, was incredibly sweet, though she seemed overwhelmed with too many tables, and we saw the bartender step in to help. Our son's Fisherman's Platter came out first, and he finished it before our Lobster Bisque and Salad arrived. Everything was good, but the timing was off--we prefer to dine together. I had the Duckhorn Cabernet, which was $17 a glass; I didn't take a photo, but I felt the pour was fairly short. My husband enjoyed his Expresso Martini, which he said was delicious. I truly want Horatio's to thrive. I hope these tips are helpful and support their success.

The Maple Pear & Blue Salad from Horatio's tasted like somebody dumped maple syrup on a Costco spring mix and prayed the blue cheese would distract you. Also... where were the pears? I think I found one witness-protection-program slice hiding under a leaf. And the Cajun Chicken Fettuccine? Menu made it sound like New Orleans. Plate showed up tasting like microwaved spaghetti with commitment issues.

Horatio's is a very nice spot at the San Leandro Marina, that we've had the pleasure of visiting a couple of times now. The location couldn't be better. Overlooking the water, this is a great place to have a romantic dinner or drinks while watching the sunset. The interior is very nice, with a nautical motif. The restaurant is very spacious, a good choice if you're hosting a party with a large group. Horatio's is affiliated with Skates on the Bay and Kinkaids, of the Landry's Restaurant Group, which I picked up on right away, since they have a similar menu and motif. Skates fell out of favor with us after a really bad service experience there years ago, but we won't hold that against Horatio's. So far we've only been in for drinks and appetizers, but I'm looking forward to having a full dinner here soon. Appetizer-wise, their crab and artichoke dip is a must. They also start you off with warm garlic bread, which is yum. They have a very nice menu of creative craft cocktails. Reminds me of a really swanky cocktail lounge called Petrus we went to when we were in Serbia a few years ago. Service is excellent. Staff is welcoming, attentive, and professional. We look forward to returning soon.

This is one of the prettiest restaurants I have been to. The view as the sun was setting was out of this world. All of the food we tried was quality including the sampler, Cesar salad, and the fettuccine. The only downside at the time was the waiting. It took our food about an hour to come out with little to no check ins and we got so hungry. Luckily the complimentary bread was able to keep us occupied for a bit but other than that it's worth a visit!

I like the bread they serve in the beginning Our waiter attends school he seems like he was in space land he took forever to bring items we I think he had to make the ice for our water and took forever to bake the garlic bread we asked for the crab artichoke sampler w/ teriyaki and coconut shrimp he only brought the crab artichoke dip sooo frustrating They didn't have the first thing I ordered so I had to order what I didn't want fish and chips I had a cocktail that I've had several times before it was excellent prickly pear jalapeño margarita mmm although the bartender didn't add all the fixings it was good I complained about nothing since I've been here several times before

We were celebrating a special day and decided on Horatio's because we hadn't been in years and it once had a nice view. We were seated immediately and assigned a waiter who introduced him self and took our drink and food orders. That was literally the last time he came to our table From that point forward we never saw our waiter again. A manager came and introduced herself walking around with black gloves she had on in the kitchen I just saw her in on our way in. We had to inquire about our order to the second manager that came over. By that time we had been waiting over thirty minutes for our food. The food finally came and it was just ok. We had the fish and chips platter, pasta with shrimp and crab, hamburger and crab artichoke dip. There was no crab in the artichoke dip. They could be so much better if they hired more wait staff. Our assigned waiter was given a party of 15 people that were seated in another section across from us. Read the reviews ? I did and still made the mistake of going .

Do they have happy hour if so what times?

Monday-Thursday 3-5:30p in the bar and lounge only

    They don't make a distinction. Mon - Thursday 11:30 - 9 Friday- Saturday 11:30 - 10

Is this a good spot for a social occasion, like a birthday? Would you choose this over paradiso?

Yes, the food is excellent there and it is an upscale restaurant, but make sure to ask to be seated in the dining room and NOT in the bar. If they seat you in the bar, you will be packed in back to back like sardines and will not feel like a…

Any updates on when happy hour will be back?

    No, they do not.

    What time is happy hour?

Honestly even if there was a vegetarian option I wouldn't recommend this place it's overpriced and not that good. Maybe a glass of wine and looking at the boats as what I would recommend

After scoping out the vibes of the place and the menu, I told myself to make sure to give this a shot. The place is in a redeveloped corner of Alameda right next to the bay. Probably used to be Navy base grounds back in the day. But now there's a couple of blocks worth of hip warehouse-y type of buildings, mostly restaurants, beer spots, some lofts and a little retail commerce. Very happening even though the surrounding area is a ghost town. Dining area not too big, maybe a couple of rooms that can hold about 20-30 heads each. Think there's another room for a private party/overflow. Decor pretty minimalist and stark. Service on the upscale side but in my stay, matched the decor, very minimalist and stark. Efficient enough but a little terse with little emotion. But I know service personality can differ from time to time or person to person. Just my obsy for one out. Daily Crudo ($20/4*) I think this rotates daily. Our choices that day was hamachi or a house smoked sturgeon. The sturgeon really piqued my interest but then it really wouldn't be a 'crudo' anymore would it, since I relate crudos to something 'raw-ish'. So I chose the hamachi. Very pretty plating, I love symmetry and balance. The thin slices of hamachi were indeed fresh, sitting in a stealthy pool of yuzu and olive oil. There are some fresno pepper slices and microgreens that garnish and a delicious nori cracker to break and accompany the crudo. This went really well with my glass of Fume Blanc. Caeser ($17/4.5*) We split this salad as their version sounded super cool. A miso-tinged Caeser dressing, lots of rustic garlic croutons and feathery soft grated parm and a soft-boiled egg. I love properly made Caesers and this was one of the best and unique versions I've ever had. The umami punch and the diverse textures just hit with me. A tad salty for a salad, but the crunchy and refreshing lettuce was able to absorb the salt blast. Huge salad too, like ideal for splitting and ridiculously large if for 1. Beef Short Rib ($43/4*) This was on special that night, and since I wasn't feeling Steak Frites (their only other beef entree option) this kinda fell on my lap. Very heavy and hearty dish. The short rib part was impeccable, super tender, gotta be sous vide. Perfectly seasoned with braising elements completely penetrated into the meat. There was a coarse gravy/sauce that covered which was okay, may have been the braising liquid just pureed. Served atop a huge pile of some risotto that I didn't inquire about. This risotto is what made the dish especially heavy. I ate most of it and it put me in a heavy carb coma. Lol. But there was a nice serving of perfectly cooked broccolini which helped balanced out the rich beef and carb heavy risotto. Chocolate Bar ($13/4.5*) Shared this for dessert as I really couldn't take more than just a few bites after the filling entree. But was this impressive, like high end dessert quality. Whoever does the desserts here definitely has some pedigree. The precision cut bar consisted of 3 layers. A brownie layer; a Bailey's mousse; and a salted caramel layer. I was loving the texture of all the different layers playing on one another. And every flavor was distinct without being overly sweet, which hit the right chords with me. A thick ganache garnished off to the side, which was good but just seemed a bit overkill with the already chocolate dominant bar. I think a cream element would have been a better contrast instead of rich chocolate on rich chocolate. But very minor quip on an otherwise skillful dessert. I finished the last few sips of my glass of Rhone with this dessert, and it left me one happy camper. I would definitely return as their style with flavors hits an accord with me. A little French, a smidge of Japanese and a lot of California. Rounding to a fiver, as this place made me more happy than not.

We ordered 4 shareable items: * Savoy Donuts - 5 stars - fluffy and yummy, not greasy at all * Focaccia w/ Meyer Lemon and Garlic Confit - 4.5 stars - wonderful texture, did not taste the garlic much but the lemon was really good add. * Grilled Beef and Pork Chipolata - 4 stars - I think the star was the dressing. The meat itself was just okay. * Rice Vermicelli Bowl - 4.5 stars - not sure why it is called a bowl when it was served more in a plate. This is the fusion take on the Vietnamese dish with different dressing. We selected the Galangal Pork, which I did not like as much compared to the usual Vietnamese ones with Lemon Grass. There is a choice to select Lemongrass chicken instead, so you might want to try that. The pork tasted "porky" despite it was thinly cut. I was hoping to try dessert, but we were full so we did not do that. Next time. The restaurant is nicely set, and you can select indoor or outdoor seating. We did make a reservation, but when we arrived there were plenty of tables available. Service was fine, we did not get the "is this your first time" greeting as I heard other tables got. But it was our first time.

This spot is a little hidden, but once you go inside, it is its own little oasis. Small and intimate, you know the dishes are made fresh. We enjoyed the tissue bread (10/10), seared rice cake (8/10), oxtail (10/10), and more that isn't pictured. I think this is a great celebratory dinner spot. I'd love to come back to try more seasonal specials.

All 5 of us walked out full. The banchan is refillable. We loved their japchae, juicy cucumbers, and potatoes. The medium beef combination came with 3 bowls of rice, lettuce, and a salad. All refillable. The quality of the meat is good. The meat on the bone was unique but really good. I haven't seen it at any other spot before. I think it was oxtail. The staff member cooking our meat did a great job. The spicy cold buckwheat noodles come with vinegar and mustard on the side. You can add as much or as little as you like.

Very friendly staff and a decently sized restaurant appropriate for small and big family gatherings…read moreor just to hang out with friends! The wait time for being served was quite long here but it may have been due to the restaurant being short-staffed. 5/5 - Spicy Pork Bulgogi - The best dish we had at this place! The marinade was perfect, and we appreciated the large serving of pork bulgogi. 5/5 - LA Short Rib - Also another star of the show here! Very generous serving and was both tender and juicy! The short rib was also well-seasoned, and we couldn't get enough of it! 4/5 - Soft Tofu Soup - The soup was very tasty and not too spicy or salty! Unfortunately we thought the serving was a bit small relative to other locations we've had this same dish and relative to the other dishes for its price, so keep that in mind! 3.5/5 - Stir-Fried Shrimp - The shrimp was just as good as the vegetables served in the stir-fry sauce. The shrimp seemed a bit dry, but overall the dish was delicious! 4.5/5 - Kimchi Pancake - Large portioned kimchi pancake that is complemented well with their pancake sauce. Highly recommend getting this to share with a medium-large party as an appetizer!

It was our first time to dine at Casa del Toro Wonderful Dining Experience at Casa del Toro!…read moreMy wife and I had a fantastic dinner at Casa del Toro in Hayward! From the moment we arrived, everything was excellent. The food was fantastic, the ambience was beautiful, the drinks were spot on, and the staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. We started with the Trio Ceviche, which was delicious and beautifully presented. My wife had the Paella, and I ordered the Short Ribs--both were absolutely fantastic. Everything was plated beautifully and served quickly without feeling rushed. We also had the pleasure of meeting Miriam, the restaurant manager, who went above and beyond to take care of us. Her warm hospitality really made our evening special and turned a great dinner into a wonderful overall experience. We're already looking forward to coming back and trying more of the delicious dishes on the menu. Casa del Toro is definitely one of our new go-to places to dine! Highly recommended!

When a place is consistently, " CONSISTENT " ! Never been INSIDE! We will have to try that, the next time ... lololol But, when you have/and do most of your time, in the CITY, you have an appreciation for good Hayward, 'Brunch weather. ' In addition, impeccable service! Sometimes ... a lost art, at expensive restaurants. Ambience ... you are dining outside and your menu is not being blown away by the wind ... lol But, it is the perfect time of the day, out there. But We will make it a point to go inside. My friend has been inside each time because she has been to their restrooms. Not I. Handicap accessible Parking Good drinks, appetizers. Bring your special friends, family. But, not cheap. lol
