I've had this on my list for the longest time but after the reviews dropped, my interest dropped. We were hungry after going to the movies and the boyfriend suggested skewers. He had no idea that I had this saved so we ended up giving it a try. Dude. So good. The house special fried rice is crack albeit a little pricey ($13.99 compared to regular white rice at $2.49/bowl) but they pack it with a lot of different ingredients. It's perfect with some veggies like the chive skewers. We also loved the classic beef and lamb (minimum order of two) and lamb belly (comes in two skewers). The cut on the lamb belly is smaller than the classic lamb. The Taiwanese sausage, bbq pork with garlic, and tofu wraps (comes in ten skewers) were also delicious. Only skippable thing was the a-choy. The flavors weren't too spicy and they have a lot of drink options. Service was relatively quick but sometimes confusing in the order that it comes out. We ordered everything at the same time but the chives came out first and the a-choy came out last? Plenty of parking in the plaza; friendly (enough) service. It's a plus if you know Mandarin lol. Total was about $60 after tax and tip. We'll definitely be back! read more

The location is off the side in the Lion Market plaza. When you go inside, there's 2 doors, both of them are open. You will need to go to the back where the cashier register are and scan the QR code on the right of the register counter to get on the waitlist. Don't make the same mistake I did and stand around waiting while everyone moves up in queue digitally. It took us 30 minutes to get seated on a busy weekend during dinner time. I killed time by walking around the plaza. When we were seated, they have another QR code for you to order. I got a few selection of spicy and non-spicy lamb, chicken, chicken skin, veggie skewers. I also got some cold noodles and dumplings so we would be full. The skewers were generously seasoned and tasty. They don't grill them at the table but there's a nice heated tray to keep your skewers warm while you eat. They had a great selection of beer and beverages. If you see the jasmine beer, I definitely recommend trying it. It's the newest craze in China. The interior is decorated with lots of faux-neon signs. It's kinda bright and overstimulating after sitting for a long time but it's not super smoky like other similar skewer places. Prices were fair too. I would come back again. read more

The food came out pretty quickly from what I remember and my friend insisted that we order their bbq eggplant with garlic. I rarely eat eggplant in all honesty, and it was the best dish I've tried in a restaurant in a long time!! Garlic lovers you MUST get this and maybe keep some mints or mouthwash on hand too LOL. I usually I'm happy with Ace King food and I totally understand that the restaurant can get busy on a holiday. I'm disappointed that their system had failed us in so many ways. First, I ordered through the restaurant's online system hoping to dodge all of the DoorDash cuts so their people gets all the money. But their system put in a wait time at 30 minutes, which I somewhat already knew it was unrealistic. The restaurant then called me telling me that the wait will be 45 minutes which I said exactly this, "that's fine, I'll wait". When I showed up at the restaurant tried to retrieve my order after 45+ minutes, a waitress said, "oh, I thought you didn't want the order so I never put it in". Then I said, "No, I said I could wait; I even told her that I'd see you there" I kept my cool, but you'd think they'd try to fix what went wrong, but the waitress continue to proceed with, "no you'd still have to wait another 45 minutes". Didn't ask if I could wait or checked how long I've already waited. Again, I totally understand the chaos during a Saturday dinner and try very best to empathize with services. But also, I think the way it was handled is quite unprofessional and tone deaf. I don't think it was necessary for anyone to give me a call, if I ordered through the system, I wish there's a way for the restaurant to notify the wait time through their text/online system, just like their waitlist. If they really don't want people to flake on their orders, maybe take card deposits or text confirmation or something. All in all, I won't be going there anytime soon. How did I not discover this skewer spot sooner? Ace King BBQ has quickly become one of my go-to spots for Chinese-style BBQ! I've tried quite a few skewer places around the Bay, and this one really stands out. Compared to Gao BBQ, the spices here lean a bit sweeter and more balanced. I still love both, but Ace King's seasoning isn't as overpowering, which honestly makes it way easier to keep eating skewer after skewer Everything we tried was solid. The wonton soup surprised me in the best way...super flavorful broth and really good wontons. The cucumber salad was light, refreshing, and not heavy on garlic. And the grilled scallops were juicy and full of flavor, definitely a highlight This is the kind of spot you bring friends to so you can order a bunch and share. I love skewers and I love when my husband wants to take me to get skewers. Ace King BBQ has been on our minds since we noticed their bright lights and we were finally able to pay them a visit on a Friday night. First off, you're seated and given a wheel to spin automatically. It seems random, but spin it and see what you win. I won 2 chicken skin skewers and I wouldn't say it was bad but it wasn't really our kind of meat so we were happy that was free. The thing about skewer places like this place is that they use the same seasoning on all of the items you order so eventually you kind of crave for something different. Don't be deceived by the cool and bright LED lights because the environment just felt very gross all around. This might depend on each person but to each their own which is understandable. BUT the moment I see a roach crawling and jumping around the ground, I lose my appetite and will feel itchy. Oh and the bathroom is also quite awful. The biggest issue, however, was the tipping experience. The cashier stood next to us while we were paying and insisted that we "had to" leave a tip. At 8 pm there was still a small line out the door, but we already had a reservation so were able to quickly get in. The interior is reminiscent of a night club - with neon signs, and loud decor. Each table is supplied with a food warming platter and some paper bowls. Make sure to also bring a phone, because ordering happens via QR code. Once we selected the items we wanted, someone came pretty promptly to our table and gave us our receipt with our ordered items (doesn't limit you from ordering more amounts as you go). I will say their ventilation is not great. The dining area smells very smokey, and when I took a peak into the kitchen, it was extremely Smokey. Food is ordered via QR code. And the food comes out pretty quick. The quality of the skewers were solid. Very meaty with not too much fat. The flavors of the skewer were so-so. The cumin-fennel flavor did not come through. Looking at the skewers, we saw mostly red pepper flakes. Could use a touch more salt. To get yourself on the waitlist, there is a QR code to scan. The code is located inside the restaurant at the cash register. You can probably add yourself to the wait-list on MiniPass if you live nearby to avoid a long wait. We had the lamb and beef skewers, I got beef tendon, the bun (ask for no spice on this one for sure) and A vegetable. Everything was delicious! It's on par with taste, has better service, and is a bit less grimy (less oily and not as salty). And the service was mostly great but there was this one food runner who consistently stayed completely silent while delivering skewers to our table without even a bit of response to our xie-xie's and thank-yous. In contrast, he consistently introduced what the skewers were to the table next to us and interacted with them, in English, during EACH SAME RUN. I wonder why? Is it because my friend and I were talking in Chinese? First of all I speak four languages (and that doesn't include the programming ones) and I am always happy to communicate with people (and computers) using whichever language that works best. It is extremely unprofessional and rude to treat people differently based on what language they are speaking. It is just off-the-chart stupid to just assume what languages people can or cannot speak. Second of all this food runner himself is Chinese, whether he likes to admit it or not. The level of self-hatred here is astonishing. It's kind of bright, but the ambiance is perfect to hang out, chat, and snack until you're full. The QR codes on the tables were convenient to order from. I really enjoyed trying the variety of skewers! It depends what meat, veggies, & specific items you like. They're generally grilled and flavored with the same seasoning so you can't go wrong if you order things you like! If you try new things (chicken gizzard, chicken heart, intestines, etc.), that could be a wild card. I didn't like the fried rice and noodle options; the fried rice was dry and grainy while the noodles were plain. The service is alright, it must be hectic grilling the skewers. The times I've been here, my party doesn't get checked up on too much. It would be nice if they checked in sometimes for refilling water since the food is salty and asking if we want the check yet. One thing that I had a problem with is that they make you tip at least 18% regardless of how big your party is. I can't remember how many times I come back for their food. The rice noodle is my must order carbs with the skewers. Crawfish was not bad, but kinda oily since it's spicy crawfish. Customer service was okay, they kept checking on customers, refilled water to all the table, but just barely communicate with customers. Ace King was one of the OG skewer place many years back. Before the vibe I got was, it was good but hole in the wall, no decor and mom & pop vibe. HOWEVER! I was wrong when I came to this location. We wanted skewers, but our first choice unexpectedly had a power outage. We had to find another place and came across Ace King. When we got there around 7 pm, we waited around 30 -45 minutes.
