Ace King has a wait of 1-2.hrs, sometimes...The question is, is it worth it? Service: for sure! Staff are very responsive to requests and orders and checking on tables. They are very sweet for sure and they make sure all the tables are taken care of. The vibe here are sticks and spirits...not the other side of the vile kind spirits but etoh and meat skewers. Which is a great combo for the Asian G's sipping on Tsingtao and whisky after a long day of manual labor and the younger fresh-faced crowd shooting-da-shiz about sustainability and global warming and bitcoin over some sweet soju... As a GenXr, my expectation of a meal differs a bit. I felt it was just one big snack sesh versus a real supper. (I am surely showing my age by this statement oh well lol) However we were not dissatisfied w/ the food possibilities and options, as we were all fairly full since we ate more than enough for each person but my satiation level was not reached lol The 5 spice, the peppers, the herbs and the smoke hits every.single.skewer. And momentarily, your pallet is a little overwhelmed w/ all those flavors. What really helped was the cold cucumbers for cleansing your pallet...1.5 hrs later and $200 lighter, we've hit our max of 5 spice flavors and stomach capacity... After visiting a string of Chinese bbq places, this place has come out on top. I always get a bunch of veg skewer items (corn, mushroom, buns, tofu, Achoy) and this place not only does it consistent each time, they are QUICK. A+ for consistently yummy food, speed, and the staff - not sure if she's the owner but she's the one at the front and she's always so nice Husband likes the environment too - big poker guy here so the decor was pretty mesmerizing to him lol. If the windows weren't frosted, I would've known to come here sooner! Ok food but I'm leaving a one star because the staff lied my face about having to give tip. In this economy? So not only did I spend a lot of money on low quality easy to cook food. They chase tips harder here than the Korean aunties who chase you out the door when you leave loose change. Not only that, they made it super embarrassing to me and my date so we pretty much were forced to tip. So not only did they lie to our faces, didnt provide the service to earn the tip, one of the Chinese waitresses yelled something very rude to me Chinese behind my back and tried to act like she didn't when I called her out for it. Ace King is by far one of my favorite Chinese skewers places of all times in the bay area. I have been coming here since they first opened up long time ago and will keep coming back here. When you arrive you will most likely need to put your name down in front and wait for a text message to sit especially during dinner time. The wait time varies all the time but expect to wait if you are coming on a Friday or Saturday. When you sit down you will order on the QR code and you can order on multiple phone and see how much each person ordered. You can also submit as many orders as you want. The wait time on the food does vary... Sometimes the food comes out super fast and super slow. It is never consistent. Also it does not come all out at once. Whatever they cook first is what comes out so you might be stuck eating all the same item until the other items come out. My go to items are Steam buns toast beef skewer a choy chives fishballs chicken skin fried rice ( Is a must) FYI: Everything has the same seasoning. Overall, i really like this place a lot. They did revamp this place so the inside is super hip and has a bunch of neon lights which is cool! They are open late too which is a plus since everything closes so early now. read more

We ordered a bunch of food and here are the MUST TRY: Steamed Bun Slice - just wow, don't even hesitate, just order 2 orders for yourself Fish Cake - surprisingly really soft and juicy Lamb / Beef Skewers - you can't go wrong with these 2 Chicken Wings - I doubted that wings could taste this good in this type of location A-Vegetable - Get some greens in!! Gizzard / Chicken Heart - for those who have a more diverse palette Enoki Mushrooms Wrapped in Bacon - very great texture I would recommend against ordering their fried rice though - it was super oily and salty. This is amazing for its Chinese bbq. All sorts of meat cuts on skewers. Very yummy. Squid tentacles. Intestines. Tendon. Tripe. All extremely well prepared and tasty. They have a preserved egg cold salad that was terrific as well. We went hungry and so we ate so fast I did not get any pics! Recently visited NY where we enjoyed some amazing street cart BBQ at Flushings, the skew meat here paled in comparison. The chicken was relatively tender, but the other meat (beef, lamb & pork) were dry & tough. Overcooking beef or lamb should be a capital offense IMO, or perhaps they used lower quality cuts. The skew meat at Flushings were so tender, fatty & juicy... On the other hand the grilled garlic oyster & yellow croaker were excellent. Overall the seasonings were heavy with generous salt & spices. Menu has a variety of food such as appetizers, spicy noodles, bbq tray, bbq skewers, and fried rice. I mainly go for the skewers and never tried anything else. A few skewers we got were: - beef - lamb - gizzard - chicken heart - homemade fish balls - sausage - rice cake Etc All the skewers had a lot of their seasoning. This place is located in a big plaza with abundant of parking space. It's always packed on weekend night but weekdays are relatively quiet. Upon arriving you are greeted with employee asking how many people, if it's packed, you need to enter their waitlist through the QR code posted at the front. Every table has a QR code, which allows you place order of food, drinks, and paying bill. Typically I can last 1 round so I try to come here with party of 4 to try more skewers as you will get full quickly. For skewers my go to is beef, enoki mushroom wrapped in bacon, chicken skin, rice roll, A Choy, and chives. For their other dishes that are not skewers: pork with cucumber, boneless chicken feet, and baked scallop. Everything is cooked to perfection with the right amount of spice. I always pair it with 王老吉 (Chinese herbal drink). It's not bitter at all and it's sweet, perfect to drink when you're eating bbq. If you cannot handle spicy, I would say avoid this place or just ask them to only salt and pepper the skewers, which will be a bit tedious and might forget as these skewers they use their seasoning base. As for interior, there's so much fluorescent light going on, a bit blinding but your eyes will adjust to it. Other than that, delicious place, decent service, and fast food service. read more

I stopped by Ace to fulfill my Chinese skewer crave after having skewers at two really good places last month. Ace's intestine skewers were on point, no bad intestine taste at all and crunchy and well marinated. The lamb, tripe, chicken skin, squid were average. Do not order the 10 lamb skewers for $5.99. It's a rip off. The meat did not taste anything like the regular lamb skewers. There was no lamb taste at all. I suspect it's pork. The skewers are so tiny that it barely covers the width of the skewer. The 10 skewers ended up being less meat than one regular lamb skewer. Note that each order only comes with 1 skewer, not the two or three depicted on their menu. I was deceived by their menu. read more

Came across this place because the place we were originally going to go to was closed. I've been to TLT BBQ for skewers which is in the same plaza so we decided to try this place out. It was late at night but the place was still pretty popping. It's a pretty small place with like around 5 tables in each of the two rooms they have. We were seated by ourselves at first but more and more people came after us. We were given the menu and ordered through marking the menu with a white board erase marker. We ordered chicken wings, beef, lamb, bacon wrapped enoki mushrooms, fish balls, bread roll, and this cucumber tofu appetizer. The food was really good despite having the same seasoning for all of it. I personally enjoyed it. It was definitely really oily but it was still really good. I am shocked that there aren't more reviews about how absolutely TERRIBLE the service here is. The food is good, but I always have to prepare myself for the workers every time I go here. I have already been here four times and every single time it's the same horrible service. Every time I come here, they attack us for not tipping. Here's why I never tip this place: - Cleanliness is nonexistent. When they accidentally gave one of our rice cakes to another table on THEIR USED PLATE, the people told the server it wasn't theirs. So, the server took that skewer and put it on our plate. Didn't give us a new one. When we asked for a new one, he insisted it was clean enough to eat. He tried gaslighting us into thinking he didn't just take the same rice cake from other customers and give it to us. - They ALWAYS mess up your order and when they do, they charge you extra. One night, they accidentally gave us a bowl of noodles that was meant for another table. We thought they gave it to us because they messed up our order, so we ate some of it. When I checked the bill, I saw that they added it to our check without telling us. When we asked them to remove it from our bill because we didn't order it, they said, "but you ate it." They refused to let us leave without paying for the bowl of noodles, so we refused to pay for our meal unless they removed it. After a long argument, they started closing and finally caved. We didn't finish the noodles and sure we should've clarified that we didn't order it, but charging us for YOUR mistakes is unacceptable. Be a big girl and apologize. They have added food we did not order to our bill before. I kid you not, added random stuff to our bill without us knowing has happened every single time I've been here. Another time was when they forgot to give us our second beef skewer, our third rice cake skewer, our second chicken skewer, and three beef enoki skewers. We were charged for all, but never got any of them. When asked to remove these items from the bill, they got mad and threw the receipt at us. - Whenever we don't tip for their horrible service, they confront us about it and say, "We expect cash tip if you don't tip by card. You aren't leaving without tipping." We said we would tip in cash, but after paying we just stood up and left without tipping. Disrespectful. They were name calling us as we were eating and then demanded a tip. No. - If you aren't Chinese, they're super rude to you. I'm asian, but not Chinese. They called us names while we were eating, talked about us to their coworkers while pointing at us, avoided filling our cups with water, ignored us when we said, "excuse me," etc. - 2 out of the 4 times I have been here, they threw the receipt at me when they see that I didn't tip in card. Again, food is good, BUT there is an even better place I'd like to recommend! Discovery Fusion BBQ in SJ closes late everyday and their skewers are SO good. I honestly prefer this place over AceKing BBQ because the service is wonderful and everything tastes great. The ambience is also just so much better and more aesthetically pleasing. We ordered: - lamb - beef - mushroom - bread - homemade fish balls - enoki and pork belly - chicken skin They use all the same cumin seasoning for all of them. The lamb was good, comparable to Feng Mao in LA. The beef was ok. Mushroom was disappointing because I thought it was going to be those long mushrooms, but on the skewers there were 6 small mushrooms - don't bother. Chicken skin and fish balls were cool. Enoki and pork belly were tasty. Each skewer was about $2. Our total was $32, not bad for dinner for two. Menu was hard to read since most of it was in Chinese and the English translations didn't really describe much or make much sense. It would be really helpful if they had pictures in their menu for the specialty items/entrees that aren't skewers.
