This place is super cute with all the neon lights and fun vibe. It somehow feels like I got transported to China when I walk in. It's a small shop but luckily we came early enough that we didn't have to wait. This place is definitely more fun to dine at with more people. You order your skewers/food via the QR code and they bring it out to you. Skewers and beer is a top tier pairing. Surprisingly, I liked the veggie skewers more than the meat skewers. The mushroom and eggplant skewers were my favorite of the night. I came with a party of 6 so we ordered a lot to share. We also tried the spicy noodles which I'd skip next time. The clam vermicelli dish was super flavorful and delicious, highly recommend. It's a fun spot to grab dinner with friends. read more

Nice chinese bbq place. Lot of variety, and you can order Ume boba drinks too. The waiting time for the skewers is around 30 minutes, it comes batches by batches. We had the tofu skin skewer, then they delivered the shrimps, then the fish...... Overall it is a great place to enjoy Chinese bbq skewers read more

We came once on a weekend night and it was packed, couldn't get a table. Came back a week later on a Sunday afternoon to try again. Everything tasted amazing, not too spicy but flavorful. Fried rice was the star of the show, packed with spices. They played techno/2000s edm the entire time and I loved it! read more

I've been looking for a good new skewers place since my local Ali Daddy turned into a sushi restaurant and then closed down. This place has everything I'm looking for: quail eggs, a decent selection of veggies including eggplant slices and really delicious bell peppers, various tofu offerings, and even small whole fish for when I'm in the mood for that. We've tried quite a few from here to San Leandro and this is the one we've decided to make our new go-to skewers dinner! read more

Wow, I am a fan of Ace King BBQ! My boyfriend introduced me to this place, and it did not disappoint! My favorite items were the BBQ garlic scallops, pork belly, quail egg, string beans, mini sweet corn, mushrooms, and eggplant with garlic. The flavor and spice is so delicious. I wish the place was bigger though, and I think the cleanliness could be better. read more

After visiting a string of Chinese bbq places, this place has come out on top. I always get a bunch of veg skewer items (corn, mushroom, buns, tofu, Achoy) and this place not only does it consistent each time, they are QUICK. A+ for consistently yummy food, speed, and the staff - not sure if she's the owner but she's the one at the front and she's always so nice Husband likes the environment too - big poker guy here so the decor was pretty mesmerizing to him lol. If the windows weren't frosted, I would've known to come here sooner! It's pretty popping on the weekends, but if you come on a weekday, you'll likely get the place to yourself for a nice quiet meal :) read more

We've been here a couple of times and always loved the food and service. However, our recent experience was not the best. After paying for the food and tipping 10% which is below the suggested 15%, the server acted really rude, throwing down the receipt and snatching the iPad. Then proceeded to bad mouth us with another server at the front counter while directly looking at us. Made us feel really uncomfortable. read more

Most of the bad reviews here are dealing with customer service / tips and possibly take out, but with that aside, their food is amazing! It's not much from the outside... and not much from peeking in. They use plastic cups and paper plates so don't be alarmed. We ordered a bunch of food and here are the MUST TRY: Steamed Bun Slice - just wow, don't even hesitate, just order 2 orders for yourself Fish Cake - surprisingly really soft and juicy Lamb / Beef Skewers - you can't go wrong with these 2 Chicken Wings - I doubted that wings could taste this good in this type of location A-Vegetable - Get some greens in!! Gizzard / Chicken Heart - for those who have a more diverse palette Enoki Mushrooms Wrapped in Bacon - very great texture I would recommend against ordering their fried rice though - it was super oily and salty. After awhile, everything may start tasting the same because the seasoning is all the same... but I still think about their skewers every so often. I will definitely be back! read more

Ace King BBQ - Steamed Bun Slices (MUST GET) - Chinese Near Me - Newark, California

Ace King has a wait of 1-2.hrs, sometimes...The question is, is it worth it? Service: for sure! Staff are very responsive to requests and orders and checking on tables. They are very sweet for sure and they make sure all the tables are taken care of. The vibe here are sticks and spirits...not the other side of the vile kind spirits but etoh and meat skewers. Which is a great combo for the Asian G's sipping on Tsingtao and whisky after a long day of manual labor and the younger fresh-faced crowd shooting-da-shiz about sustainability and global warming and bitcoin over some sweet soju... As a GenXr, my expectation of a meal differs a bit. I felt it was just one big snack sesh versus a real supper. (I am surely showing my age by this statement oh well lol) However we were not dissatisfied w/ the food possibilities and options, as we were all fairly full since we ate more than enough for each person but my satiation level was not reached lol The 5 spice, the peppers, the herbs and the smoke hits every.single.skewer. And momentarily, your pallet is a little overwhelmed w/ all those flavors. What really helped was the cold cucumbers for cleansing your pallet...1.5 hrs later and $200 lighter, we've hit our max of 5 spice flavors and stomach capacity... I like it, but ACE King wouldn't be my goto for a "meal" but for fun size snacks and a night of throwing back some etoh. I think it it's worth the hype and wait for someone who enjoys the themed courses, but an aged mama like me I prefer little more substance and tangibility in a meal, less jazzy seasonings, smoke, and lights. BUT Xièxiè very much, staff really were the high notes of this place! read more

Ace King BBQ - Mushroom Corn Chicken hearts Lamb - Chinese Near Me - Newark, California

Recently visited NY where we enjoyed some amazing street cart BBQ at Flushings, the skew meat here paled in comparison. The chicken was relatively tender, but the other meat (beef, lamb & pork) were dry & tough. Overcooking beef or lamb should be a capital offense IMO, or perhaps they used lower quality cuts. The skew meat at Flushings were so tender, fatty & juicy... On the other hand the grilled garlic oyster & yellow croaker were excellent. Overall the seasonings were heavy with generous salt & spices. Price is very reasonable and only a fraction of the generic yakitori establishments. read more

Ace King is by far one of my favorite Chinese skewers places of all times in the bay area. I have been coming here since they first opened up long time ago and will keep coming back here. When you arrive you will most likely need to put your name down in front and wait for a text message to sit especially during dinner time. The wait time varies all the time but expect to wait if you are coming on a Friday or Saturday. When you sit down you will order on the QR code and you can order on multiple phone and see how much each person ordered. You can also submit as many orders as you want. The wait time on the food does vary... Sometimes the food comes out super fast and super slow. It is never consistent. Also it does not come all out at once. Whatever they cook first is what comes out so you might be stuck eating all the same item until the other items come out. My go to items are Steam buns toast beef skewer a choy chives fishballs chicken skin fried rice ( Is a must) FYI: Everything has the same seasoning. Overall, i really like this place a lot. They did revamp this place so the inside is super hip and has a bunch of neon lights which is cool! They are open late too which is a plus since everything closes so early now. read more

Recently remodeled and gives night life vibes! Good place to go to if you are feeling Chinese skewers and want to drink casually with your friends. Menu has a variety of food such as appetizers, spicy noodles, bbq tray, bbq skewers, and fried rice. I mainly go for the skewers and never tried anything else. A few skewers we got were: - beef - lamb - gizzard - chicken heart - homemade fish balls - sausage - rice cake Etc All the skewers had a lot of their seasoning. The seasoning was a little spicy, but more salty if anything. If you don't drink anything after a few sticks, the salt and MSG feels overwhelming. Still great skewers though, will be back! read more

This is amazing for its Chinese bbq. All sorts of meat cuts on skewers. Very yummy. Squid tentacles. Intestines. Tendon. Tripe. All extremely well prepared and tasty. They have a preserved egg cold salad that was terrific as well. We went hungry and so we ate so fast I did not get any pics! But, the place is so clean, the staff so service oriented and the tastes so good they thus deserve 5 stars! We will be back soon for more! read more

Ok food but I'm leaving a one star because the staff lied my face about having to give tip. In this economy? So not only did I spend a lot of money on low quality easy to cook food. They chase tips harder here than the Korean aunties who chase you out the door when you leave loose change. Not only that, they made it super embarrassing to me and my date so we pretty much were forced to tip. So not only did they lie to our faces, didnt provide the service to earn the tip, one of the Chinese waitresses yelled something very rude to me Chinese behind my back and tried to act like she didn't when I called her out for it. Super disrespectful! That one moment almost completely ruined my date. Won't be coming back. Here's a tip ace king, if you can't afford enough money to pay your staff, don't lie, insult in Chinese and embarrass your customers and still force them to tip you! read more

This is one of the worst restaurant we've ever been to. Wait staff spoke limited English, it was definitely a language barrier there. Everything tasted the same, like literally seasoning on every skewers all taste the same, we thought maybe ordering a spicier item would make it taste differently but it's just pepper with the same flavor. And they have this warmer on your table, where they placed the the skewers you ordered on, it had old tea light candles literally "old tea lights" probably from all the previous customers before us, they didn't even have the decency to throw those out, well they lit 2 for us all the while the old ones still there, but okay maybe it'll keep our food warm, well that was a joke, it did not at all. I am surprised the health department hasn't made a visit yet. Would never go back or recommend this place. read more

Ace King finally reopen !!! They knocked out the wall in between, make the space bigger. I love their new neon decoration lights, it was totally different vibe from before :) They kept the same price as before, and food is always as good as before, the seasoning was just like what I had from china. If you can't handle spicy, don't forget to remind them They had a new set up on the table, they stored some tiny candles to keep the food warm. They added more waiters and waiters, maybe it's weekend, they are very friendly, and make me a little homesick I will definitely go back! read more

It was very lively and loud in the restaurant for a Sunday night. There was plenty of food and it was all delicious. This is my favorite BBQ place in the Bay Area. The food is amazing. Their seasoning for the BBQ skewers is one of its kind and so flavorful. There are also many choices to choose from. Oysters are especially tasty. Their rice noodles are also top-notch. I love the seasonings they use. This is a quite popular place. The line can be long at rush hour. They do offer takeout, which is a good way to avoid the long wait. read more

I love skewers but I haven't found a go to skewer place in the Bay Area. Shout out to my friends Emily and Jeff for suggesting this place because it was absolutely delicious. This restaurant is in a very large plaza with plenty of parking. It was crowded even on a Tuesday night so will def recommend going during off hours. Pro tip - order a bunch of skewers and noodles the first time around. The food will come out throughout the time. The cuts for the meat were super thick and there's literally so much juice when you bite into it. The seasoning is so addicting. My fave veggies were hands down the mushrooms! Love this place! Even though I enjoyed everything, I would not recommend for togo. The skewers are def time sensitive and I enjoyed it the moment it came out. read more

Do not come here! Ordered at 8:40 and didn't receive my order until 10:30. If you are taking out they will forget your order so that the people in the restaurant can get their food. Edit: food was cold but damn it was still good. Just order early. read more

Came across this place because the place we were originally going to go to was closed. I've been to TLT BBQ for skewers which is in the same plaza so we decided to try this place out. It was late at night but the place was still pretty popping. It's a pretty small place with like around 5 tables in each of the two rooms they have. We were seated by ourselves at first but more and more people came after us. We were given the menu and ordered through marking the menu with a white board erase marker. We ordered chicken wings, beef, lamb, bacon wrapped enoki mushrooms, fish balls, bread roll, and this cucumber tofu appetizer. The food was really good despite having the same seasoning for all of it. I personally enjoyed it. It was definitely really oily but it was still really good. It's definitely a good snack type of place to visit! It could get quite pricey as you order more skewers. Would definitely come visit again for skewers! read more

This place is located in a big plaza with abundant of parking space. It's always packed on weekend night but weekdays are relatively quiet. Upon arriving you are greeted with employee asking how many people, if it's packed, you need to enter their waitlist through the QR code posted at the front. Every table has a QR code, which allows you place order of food, drinks, and paying bill. Typically I can last 1 round so I try to come here with party of 4 to try more skewers as you will get full quickly. For skewers my go to is beef, enoki mushroom wrapped in bacon, chicken skin, rice roll, A Choy, and chives. For their other dishes that are not skewers: pork with cucumber, boneless chicken feet, and baked scallop. Everything is cooked to perfection with the right amount of spice. I always pair it with 王老吉 (Chinese herbal drink). It's not bitter at all and it's sweet, perfect to drink when you're eating bbq. If you cannot handle spicy, I would say avoid this place or just ask them to only salt and pepper the skewers, which will be a bit tedious and might forget as these skewers they use their seasoning base. As for interior, there's so much fluorescent light going on, a bit blinding but your eyes will adjust to it. Other than that, delicious place, decent service, and fast food service. read more

Indoor dining only. We walked in around 6:30pm for dinner since another bbq place was only to-go orders. We got to sit down right away. We ordered up a feast. The sliced pork appetizer dish and house special fried rice were good. Horrible Attitude/Service Worst experience ever! We waited almost 2 hours to be seated/get our food and the staff with the red shirt has the worst attitude I have ever seen. I paid the bill using Venmo and told the cashier tip will be in cash. Might be hard to communicate if you don't speak Chinese but we ordered successfully. We ordered: - lamb - beef - mushroom - bread - homemade fish balls - enoki and pork belly - chicken skin They use all the same cumin seasoning for all of them. The lamb was good, comparable to Feng Mao in LA. The beef was ok. Mushroom was disappointing because I thought it was going to be those long mushrooms, but on the skewers there were 6 small mushrooms - don't bother. Chicken skin and fish balls were cool. Enoki and pork belly were tasty. Each skewer was about $2. Our total was $32, not bad for dinner for two. Menu was hard to read since most of it was in Chinese and the English translations didn't really describe much or make much sense. It would be really helpful if they had pictures in their menu for the specialty items/entrees that aren't skewers. The place opens at 5pm everyday and stays open late until 2am on the weekends (Friday and Saturday). read more
