Wang Jia Wei in Union City had really good food, but the wait time was a bit long. It took a while for our food to come out, and it seemed like other customers were experiencing the same delay as well. One thing I did like was that they have photos of the dishes with the names on the wall, which makes it easier to see what you're ordering. The food itself was great though--the honey walnut shrimp was especially delicious and definitely a highlight. I'll probably come back to give them another chance haha, especially since that honey walnut shrimp was so good.

    Spicy beef and tendon

Came in and order some appetizers to go. I ordered the Sliced beef and tendon with ripe in chili sauce, the spicy potato salad and the beef shank with cucumber salad. The spicy potato salad was ok was not spicy at all. The sliced beef tendon dish was good but a bit too spicy for my taste. The beef shank and cucumber salad was by far my favorite. It was tasty and refreshing. Definitely be back for this dish. Will need to be back to try other things on the menu.

Bang for your buck and yummy food. Casual place. We walked in Tuesday around 7pm and it wasn't busy. We underestimated the portion size. It's a shareable portion. No wonder the staff moved us from a table of 2 to a table of 4. We ordered Pork fried rice, fish with pickled veggies, east bay soup, and basil clams. Everything was good, but the fish with veggies was salty. Everything else wasn't overly salty. Most of the dishes were priced at around $16. The staff even pack your leftovers for you. We ordered tea and it was $2.50 a pot. Will be back to try more dishes!

I placed a takeout order by phone and was quoted a 30-minute wait time. When I arrived after the 30 minutes had passed, I was told the order would be ready in about another 10 minutes. Unfortunately, it ended up taking an additional 30 minutes beyond that. The food itself was good, but the inaccurate time estimates made the pickup experience frustrating. If you're ordering takeout, be prepared for a longer wait than what's quoted, as their timing for phone orders doesn't seem very reliable.

    Fish Fillet in Wine Sauce

Ordered my meal takeout and needed to compliment the great flavor! 5/5 - Honey Walnut Prawn. The star of the show here has a very smooth and non-overwhelming honey glaze that sticks and portions well onto each prawn. The batter also remained very crunchy over a perfectly cooked prawn. You won't be disappointed ordering this dish! 5/5 - Fish Fillet in Wine Sauce. Fish fillets cooked PERFECTLY in a savory wine broth sauce. If you like fish and soup, this is one of their best dishes. I can't recommend it enough. The portion is generous and you can definitely share with others. 4/5 - Sesame Chicken. The chicken was a bit drier than I expected but the dish was still quite decent with a well-proportioned sesame sauce and sesame seed seasoning.

The Caveat: Your wait time could be anywhere from 15 minutes to 1 hour. Why? The table set up allows them to accommodate larger parties 8+, but that also means less small group tables. Please come patient for this small business. They have a waitlist where you leave name, phone number and group size, but it's written. So first come, first serve. Otherwise, it is well worth the wait. And I mean we left with left over because we underestimated the amount of food given! Every single dish is prepared fresh, none of them were under temperature or uncooked. Because of the food variety, we were waiting in between some dishes. However, it allowed us to fully focus and enjoy the dish in front of us. There is another review that accurately depicts the wait staff, but we only saw 3 staff members working at night. They are all kind, so try to see where they are coming from. We got a bunch of different dishes, but my top 3 were the Braised Red Pork Belly, General Tso's chicken and the stir fried pea shoots. Also had to try the beef chow fun because... Crispy Fry from Emeryville Public Market is still the best. Take a look at my photos and see the other dishes we tried, but all in all... I'm coming back again to try different dishes because there is less Americanized dishes here I feel like it connects me to my Chinese culture.

Wang Jia Wei had delicious food, the Szechuan chicken was flavorful with the perfect amount of spice, and the noodles were cooked just right. The only downside was the long wait; our food took about 45 minutes to arrive. I would give them 3.5/5, everything tasted great and would easily make it a solid 4-star experience if not for the delay.

Bitter melon with egg, Dong Po Pork Joint, Chives with egg, Salt and pepper fish fillet
    Henry H.

Wang Jia Wei, one of the newest restaurant within the plaza around so I had to come and check it out. The furniture inside were decorated with traditional Chinese wooded chairs and table. There were able 4-5 tables dining when I came and got a to go order. Here are the things I got: Dong Po Pork Joint - 4 / 5 The pork had an unique taste that combines a little bit of sweet and sour sauce in this dish. It is different then how the Cantonese styled of Dong po tasted which is heavier on the soy flavoring instead. It tasted unique but definitely something to get used to if you haven't had this styled of Dong Po pork beforehand. Salt & Pepper fish fillet - 5 / 5 It's tough to get this dish wrong. The salt and pepper mix is just right along with the portion. If you don't frequent Chinese restaurants, this one is a safe bet to get and most of the time you'll get a winner out of it. The portion the chef gave was handsome, I greatly appreciate it. Bitter melon with egg - 4 / 5 The green bitter melon is really not as bitter as other bitter melons that I have had in the past. They scrambled it well with eggs and the salt portion is just right. If you like a good bitter melon like myself here and there, give this dish a try. Chive with egg - 5 / 5 When was the last time that you have had any chives like anywhere? Yea, me either. They've mixed it well with the eggs and the chef did a good job accentuating the smell and taste of chives. I love it. There's only one downside to this restaurant and it is the service. They told me 20 minutes to come back so I strolled around outside. I came back just to see them prepare for everyone else but mine? Wait, wtf? Another 15 minutes I waited until the dishes were completed. Jeez man, do I need to micromanage these waiters and waitress to get my orders on time? I'm not hard to please when it comes to Chinese restaurants cause I come expecting crappy service but waiting like another 15 minutes AFTER you told me to come back in 20 minutes is like close to double the waiting time. For what? 5 tables of people with 3 waiters inside? Come on now.

We went on a Friday afternoon for lunch and this place was packed. They have an extensive menu. We ordered bunch of items to share. We ordered the Colorful Mung Bean Noodle Salad, Shredded Daikon Puff Pastry, Napa Cabbage With Pork Rice Cake, Pork Rib With Potato and String Beans, Lamb With Onion, Bean Curd With Shredded Pork Over Rice( Lunch Special), Shanghai Style Salted Pirk With Veggie Fried Rice, and Fried Flour Roll. All the food didn't come out all at once. Some dishes came out 15 to 20 minutes in between. The salad came out towards the end of of our meal. The Shredded Daikon Puff Pastry came out when we're almost done with our meal. The Colorful Mung Bean Noodle Salad looks better than the taste of the salad. They did put effort into cutting the veggies. The Shredded Daikon Puff Pastry were good. However, I found an eye lash underneath one off them. We got grossed out.. The Napa Cabbage With Pork Rice Cake was meh. We had better elsewhere. The Pork Rib With Potato and String Beans Soup was very salty. It was almost inedible. The Lamb With Onion was a disappointment. Lamb had tendons and bones in them. The Shanghainese Style Salted Pork with Veggie Fried Rice was very, very greasy. The Fried Flour Roll was also a big disappointment. We thought the order would come with four Fried flour rolls vs to two and it didn't come with a side of condensed milk as a dipping sauce. For the price that they charged $9.95, it was a total ripped off for two small flour rolls. We had to flag down the waiter for everything. We only got service only when we asked and we had to wait too. They definitely need to hire more people. Even though the prices are reasonable, we wouldn't be back. There are some many other restaurants around that have better food.

ok this restaurant is so highly rated on yelp. Saw that it gets crazy on the weekends so we came with 3 sets of older Chinese (aunts uncles and my parents) on a Monday night. There were people but no wait. We were greeted immediately and sat down. My parents enjoyed ordering off the pictures on the wall instead. Our waitress said based on our crowd we'll do a lower salt option than normal and some of the dishes less spicy. The dishes arrived, I need to come back to try it with regular spice minus the older folk but man if this is "LESS SALT" i can't imagine what full salt tastes like. It was def salty and we needed extra bowls of rice to eat with it. I wish I would've taken more pics but you know we were hungry. I would skip out on the fish next time it was a bit too sweet for my tastes. The "ants climbing the mountain" noodles were tasty but I need to figure out a better way to mix it by the time we were done with it there was a ton of meat on the bottom that we weren't able to scoop up when we were getting the noodles.

Hot and sour soup provided with the lunch specials

THIS IS NOT A SHANGHAINESE RESTAURANT!!! (I have let the yelp mods know.) As confirmed by immigrant Chinese parents, this restaurant is a mishmash of EVERYTHING (Chinese American, Korean, etc) but they advertise themselves as a sichuan hunan restaurant with a focus on northeastern Chinese dishes--yes, this is what makes them special. Lunch special runs Monday to Friday except for Wednesday since they are closed until 2:30pm. No soup selection. No rice selection. Green beans with beef lunch special: - ugh hot and sour soup was lukewarm and cold with flavorless vibes... salty and not very sour or flavorful but had the typical ingredients... totally and completely disappointed - vegetable eggroll was gummy and crispy but probably the HIGHLIGHT of the entire meal; no sauce provided - lightly boiled broccoli... counteracted the saltiness of the dish - the beef was tender but the artificial tenderness and texture spooks me (Is the meat naturally this way?) - green beans are old and not very fresh as they were not very crisp Pickled cabbage lamb noodle soup - noodles were soft and overcooked - oily - lamb was on par with no strange after tastes Traditional sweet and sour pork - very thinly sliced pork with some slices having lots of fat - very dry, dense - sauce was delicious but filled with so much MSG; also comprised of raw garlic, raw ginger, raw carrots, raw green onions, raw cilantro, cornstarch - table next to us did not even touch this dish but instead brought the entire thing home... - I asked the waitress how to reheat this and she gave me an attitude and eye roll with the over confident phrase of "our dishes are all delicious even cold but you can use the microwave" OVERALL, all the dishes are FILLED with MSG. I was dying of thirst so much so I had 3 full sized drinks afterwards. They do not make their own hot sauce. SERVICE: - immediately concerning from the gecko as we asked a server what has been the most ordered noodle dish or what noodle dish do they recommend... she could not even tell us anything and had vibes of not even knowing the menu... another server immediately comes over - as stated above, rude with an over confident and obnoxious attitude - automatically provides iced water with lemon in a dirty canister but has hot tea available in a portable kettle AMBIENCE: - I love how the wall is filled to the brim with photos of their dishes but I felt as if the wall was closing in since the photos are all black and dark (I'm claustrophobic) - they provide brand name toilet paper :) - clean bathroom LOCATION: - next to din din dumplings - tight parking spaces - convenient location due to multiple adjacent plazas, options, and services Will I be coming back? - I heard this place was delicious from multiple Yelp elites hence I really really really wanted to try this place. I am completely astonished in a bad way and disappointed. I would not come back solely due to the massive amounts of MSG used.

Another great Chinese spot opened up in the area! Really tasty and affordable dishes with decent portions. Dishes do run on the saltier side but tons of umami flavor. I especially liked the whole fish in spicy sauce which was a garlicky flavor explosion. Paired really nicely with the classic salted pork and veggie fried rice shanghainese style. The most unique dish of all was the candied sweet potatoes! They serve this with a bowl of water to dip in, which hardens the sticky sweet coating. It's like tanghulu but in sweet potato form! So fun to eat and nothing like i've ever had. Service was quick and food came out fast, even when the place was packed! Seats and tables are very close in proximity. Looks like they also have great lunch special deals. Definitely would be back!

Wang Jia Wei (Wang Family Taste/Flavor) opened where New China once was. Infrastructure & decor totally renovated. Lotsa food pics on both walls. Ample parking on weekend. Seated quickly. Female server took order. Food came in 20ish minutes. Not many tables. Noticed many large to go orders. Offerings (Dongbei, Sichuan, Shanghainese, China....): chef's specials, dimsum/noodle/rice. Seafood, dry pot, chicken, pork, seafood, beef, lamb, vegetables, tofu, lunch specials... Confirmed with host in Mandarin they previously operated Fortune Kitchen in Fremont. Their main cuisine is Dongbei (Northeast China). Most food pics on wall mention Dongbei as the origin of a featured entree. Bites: Egglplant with garlic sauce(14.95) -generous portion-lotsa fried eggplant pieces stir fried with pork schreds, red & green peppers, onions. Tastes freshly made. -the garlic sauce wasn't bold tasting, seem watered down. Nada garlic flava. Basil Clam (16.95) didn't order spicy version. -lotsa small & medium sized clams sautéed in basil, red & green peppers. Flava not strong. Clams lacked flava, juiciness. -clams probably the frozen kind from overseas... 4.5 stars semi worthy. Quantity: plentiful Quality: needs tweaking to achieve WOW eats.

When you enter and get seated, you will be prompted to go on the url code at the table to pick your items. While I understand that this is the new way for restaurants to serve guests post-covid, the vast menu items you have to scroll through makes me long for physical menus of the past - but that's just my boomer take for the day. There were a bunch of other items like rice and noodle dishes that looked interesting to pair with the meats, but we were only craving bbq so we skipped out on the carbs. We ordered a BUNCH of skewers, from the standard beef, lamb, pork belly to chicken skin and a fried quail. All of the skewers had the same type of dried chili powder spice seasoning mix so unfortunately there wasn't too much of a diversity in flavor profile but on the flip side, it allowed us to focus more on enjoying the meat quality itself (this is where rice or noodles would definitely help cut through the richness). All of the meats were incredibly well-cooked and charred. It is on the drier side, so be aware if you are looking for a juicier, plumper cut of meat that some other restaurants have. Paired with the Chinese vinegar, soy sauce, and chili oil, they were super delectable. My personal favorites were the pork belly, chicken skin, and beef. We had some leftovers to go and the staff provided us some extra sauce to go so that's a big plus. Great food here and definitely will be back to try more of the other menu items for the full experience.

Thinking back on my delicious dinner at Ping's Bistro in Fremont, two things stand out for me: the…read moredelicious food, and the heat level. We ordered a variety of dishes, and all of them were fantastic. As my friend mentioned, a little bit saucier than you'd typically find in China, but still good. And we ordered everything extra spicy. The "Premium stir-fried beef with yellow peppers (with broth, Angus beef with brisket fat)" was a great saucy start to the meal, it had a nice sour flavor to go with the mild-medium heat and was very fresh tasting. "Husband and Wife Lung Slices" was good, standard and a smidge oily, but tasty. The tendons (there are no lungs, just beef and beef tendons) were cooked nicely, with just a hint of chew but tender. Again mild-medium "Stone Pot Flavored Frog" is where things started to get really good. This was one of the best dishes of the night, and the best frog I've ever had. So tender, with a nice crispy exterior, and so much flavor. This was delicious. If you've never tried frog, this is the one to get. A nice break from the heat was "Braised Pork Belly with Preserved Mustard Greens". I was told that this was a bit leaner than what you'd expect in China, but for me the meltingly soft, rich pork belly and chewy greens made into little mantou-tacos was great. It has a nice sweet/sour flavor and zero heat. Now, by far the spiciest dish we ordered was "Double Pepper Chicken Noodles". Delicious noodles, fresh chilies, great almost crispy texture from the wok, but this was firmly in medium-hot category. Everyone started to sweat and get runny noses eating this one. But the flavor was addictive. Some notes - the parking lot is big, but you may have to walk a bit. This is because this restaurant on a Saturday night was absolutely packed. I came around 6:30 and there were 9 tables on the waitlist ahead of me. I wouldn't say it moved quickly, and the area to wait in is cramped. So best bet is to come early or go wait somewhere else. They have an online waitlist that sends a text when your table is ready, so there's no need to stick around being jostled by people entering and exiting. Service was efficient. My friend ordered (in Mandarin) so I didn't follow what was happening, but the food arrived very hot and very quickly, and they nicely pack up your leftovers themselves. Overall - fantastic. I found some new favorites, had some good versions of things I already like, and while it certainly isn't cheap it was worth it. Oddly enough they added an 18% tip automatically. Fair enough, I would normally tip 20% for dinner but if 18% works I'm not complaining. Unfortunately the location isn't convenient for me and the food would be a bit challenging for most of my friends, so I probably won't be back soon. But anyone who wants some authentic and spicy and interesting Chinese dishes would be happy coming here.

Though I prefer my food a little bit more flavorful, Ping's Bistro really shot every single flavor up. The Steamed pork belly with preserved vegetables was served first, and without a doubt, is one of the spiciest. It's a good size for sharing, but the preserved vegetables on the bottom was mushy and came in a very small portion. Though supposed to be a part of the dish, seemed to be thrown in just for some extra flavor. Though I selected mild spiciness for the Spicy Boiled Fish, it was still REALLY spicy. Maybe it's my spice intolerance, but this dish lights a fire in your mouth. Also, this dish is mala, so it numbs your mouth. Some people may enjoy this sensation, but it's a pass for me. The fish was really soft and tender though. The fish was my favorite part of the Spicy Boiled Fish. Not only there is fish underneath, it was surprising to see other ingredients like lotus, vermicelli noodles, and much more. The salted egg covered pork was extremely salty and oily. I was surprised to know it was boneless, and I felt like the salted egg crust is too thin, which let the taste of the pork overthrow any type of salted egg taste. The Country Style Sautéed Pork with Eggs and Black Fungus was again one of my preferred dishes, though it was extremely oily. I really liked the egg, black fungus, and bell peppers in this dish. The eggs and black fungus were soaked with flavor and the bell peppers balanced out the heaviness. The pork was also alright, but more on the tougher side. If you were to come to Ping's Bistro, I would advise you to order the Country Style Sautéed Pork with Eggs and Black Fungus. The floors were really sticky, but other than that, everything was alright. The water was poured messily, but I guess it's no big thing. The staff were really quiet and avoided interaction. When they serve your dish, they never wait an extra second before they leave for any questions or requests. They just drop the dish and zoom away. From my review, just remember: saltiness. I'm not convinced that I'll come back again, but I'm glad I tried it out.
