In the past, I never cared for this style of dumplings and always opted for steamed or potstickers, but their pan fried style changes everything. These hefty mounds of pork filling are literally bursting with piping hot soup and the most satisfying crusted bottom of the dumpling dough. These also have way more soup than any other soup dumpling I've tried. The texture of the wrapper is a cross of a bao bun and bouncy dumpling wrapper, all without being overly thick. These are delicious on their own or with their chili oil crisp. Ordering in the restaurant is easy and done by scanning a QR code. Our order of two types of dumplings and one appetizer came out within ten minutes of placing the order. There's a grand opening sign. I'm guessing this place might have had some remodel done and changed of ownership! We tried this place again and it was better than the old restaurant we had. The beef dish was delicious! A little bit too much cilantro but the dish was tender and not chewy with a little kick. Xiao Long Bao was big and juicy! Not dried. Plenty of parking. Service was nice, they don't hover but are always there when you have questions. They have a QR code and you just order for your table through your phone. Makes payment super easy. It's really easy to order too much so I suggest doing a little at a time. You can always order more if you're still hungry. I love how you can see them making the food too. This was originally Pan Fried Dumpling which I guess is now under new management. We ordered here for my mom's 77th birthday, because she really likes the mochi bread which is like Filipino puto made from rice flour. There are different ways to make puto and we like a specific way that's not easy to come by at least at Filipino bakeries. The food boxes weren't ventilated and I remember before there was more care to keep the boxes partly open so the food wouldn't be as soggy. Also a different Chinese restaurant we went to recently had cut vents into the boxes so we were disappointed this didn't happen. The soup dumplings were my absolute favorite, but I remember the breading not being so thick and it was just better before. 3/5 The fried wontons also had too thick of a wrapper. 3/5 Shrimp dumplings were OK 4/5 The mochi cake was more dense than before. I liked it better before, but it's still OK. Just not as good. 4/5 We really liked the brown sugar sticky rice which came with two packets. We used Translate app which deciphered the packets to be Liquid Tongue Sauce and Powdered Soybean. This was definitely the highlight of our meal. I ordered it because I thought this would be the Chinese version of Filipino biko. While it's not, it's pretty darn good! The chewy rice cake is green for some reason, and the outside has some sort or flaky crunchy stuff. Then you have the drizzled Liquid Tongue Sauce (which I've had before - maybe it's muskovado sugar) and sprinkle powered savory bean powder, so you have four different textures and three different flavors. If you're Filipino, I highly recommend. 5/5 The other food was OK, but not super amazing. Cumin beef was OK but not as flavorful as one we ordered recently from a different place. 3/5 The beef broccoli was OK. 4/5 Chowfun was good. 4/5 Ground Three Delight was OK but not for me. 4/5 I liked that the restaurant called to verify, they texted me when it was ready, and the order was on time. We ordered from here very often and scheduled 9:45-10:15 delivery. At 10:30 we call. They say it's ready and to come get it. It's delivery, and says someone from the restaurant will be delivering it. They tell us to cancel it, but we would lose money (once the restaurant confirms the order, you still have to pay for the food). We ask them to cancel and they say they will. Instead, they mark it as "on the way". At 12:30am, they mark it as delivered. We then had to sit on the phone for 30 minutes getting a refund. Mind you, this was $100 worth of food. OH MY GOD. I would give this place a million stars if I could. I found it from TikTok and it is absolutely delicious. The service is amazing. Everyone working there is incredibly kind. I also think this is a local family owned restaurant so it's definitely great to support :) The restaurant itself is pretty cute and the food...the food is to die for. I came in wondering if it would be better than DTF, and it is definitely better. This tasted more homey, and the flavors were amazing. I would definitely recommend trying everything I did. The price of everything is also great! Very reasonable and definitely better than DTF I got the pork soup dumplings that are fried on the bottom, the spicy wontons, earwig mushrooms, green beans and the cucumber salad and all were amazing. There are multiple Special Noodle locations and I've been to the Milpitas one prior to this one. Im happy to say the Newark location is just as good and closer to home. I personally enjoy the decor of this one a lot more and space is absolutely adequate. This place is big enough to host two family banquet style tables in the back along with a few tables in a pseudo private area, so if you want to have a bug get together def consider booking them. As for the service it was great. The two women working were very kind. Last but not least the food. Beef wraps were overhyped, great flavors but fell apart. We had more veggies than beef and barely tasted it. The Beef Noodles however was bomb. Adequate amount of meats and great portion of noodles. They definitely are known for their noodles. This is a Northern Chinese Cuisine. Their special dishes are braised beef noodle in soup , pan fried pork bun and skewers . The braised beef is rich in flavor , tender and the noodle has the right texture, not too soft and a little chewy. The pan fried pork bun is my favorite. It has a crispy layer at the bottom and inside are filled with super hot juice and a seasoned meat ball . It is so hot that we don't recommend to take a bike when served . You should make a small hole on the top or side to lower the inside Bao temperature, before you can eat it without burning yourself. The skewers section are new addition on the menu. It tastes amazing with beer or cold drink . We order the lamb skewers and the chicken skin skewers . Very easy to find parking. It is located inside a huge parking lot with other restaurants. Pan fried dumpling has a crunch at the bottom, beef wrap is a bit crunchy with tender beef. Second Special Noodle I've seen in the area. Gave this place a chance after a good experience in the other one closer to south Fremont. Went here on a weekday dinner time, not busy at all, signs outside said grand opening. It was also very close to one of my favorite milk tea place. We got seated immediately and looked at the extensive menu. We ended up getting pork buns, XLBs, and chowmein. Overall, I think my favorite was the chowmein. The xlbs are fine, nothing like DTF or Din Ding but not as bad as Pearl Bay. The pork bun was okay, not really alot of filling just mostly bread. Special Noodle is located in a big shopping plaza, right next to Feng Cha Tea. Plenty of parking available. We came on a Sunday night around 9:15 pm, and unfortunately, they were not busy at all. There was only one other table eating. The have a lot of tables inside dining and outside dining available. They are good for groups. House music playing were songs from Air Supply, Phil Collins, The Bee Gees, Foreigner, The Beatles, Elton John, etc. obviously my genre. Pressure Cooked Pig Feet (No spicy). This takes some time to cook. Maybe 12-15 min. This was ok. I am glad we tried it, but maybe I am more familiar with the pig's feet with vinegar/ginger. Beef Wrap: Tender slices of beef, iceberg lettuce, green onions, cilantro wrapped in a thin green onion pancake wrap. Oh man, this was so good. The GOP was crispy, fresh, and delicious. The hosin sauce tied all the ingredients together. Beef Stone Pot Noodle Soup - This was filled with a vietnamese beef meatball, fish ball with roe, honeycomb tripe, tofu cake, tendon, AA choy, and several thinly sliced beef. I LOVE Special Noodle. It's probably my favorite chain for Chinese food. We have visited a few locations but frequent this one most often because it's closest to home. All of the locations have been consistently good quality in my experience. The most popular dish here is the pan fried dumplings, and they are an absolute must order item. These always come out steaming hot with a perfectly crispy bottom, and filling and broth inside are so flavorful. We get these every single time we come here, and we have also ordered them to go as well. I've enjoyed pretty much every single thing that we have tried here. My other favorite dish here is the spicy eggplant. They make it really well and it's so comforting with a bowl of rice. I also highly recommend the ribs over sticky rice, but be warned - this can sometimes take a while to come out. Their noodle soups, other dumplings, and a cumin beef/lamb are also really good. The restaurant is pretty casual. They have large tables at the back which are great for groups or families. The menu is quite extensive so you can usually find something that will satisfy everyone. The servers are friendly, but service is hit and miss in terms of speed depending on how busy the restaurant is. They also have online ordering and are very fast for takeout! read more
