An ayce and a la carte casual sushi spot. They have more interesting rolls than most other spots. Quality is solid. Had tried gaijin roll and nut cracker roll before and loved those. This time tried the boujee roll and the mukbang roll and was less impressed. I ordered this thru delivery and when the stuff that was tempura came it was a bit soggy. For the mukbang roll, I feel like the seaweed gives the poke a weird taste. It was ok but didn't love it. Overall, love that they have crazy combinations for rolls and they got a huge variety. Quality is consistent with what a casual sushi spot puts out. Prices are comparable but I think the ayce price probably really good if you want to try many different rolls
I'd give this a 3.5 stars, but since the pricing is reasonable and they have happy hour specials I'm rounding up to a 4. I come here at least once a month sometimes more often for their take out happy hour. It's a good deal with two rolls for $11.99. They aren't speciality rolls, but it's still better than your grocery store sushi. I've also gotten their chicken teriyaki on happy hour. It's mid, but when I want to eat healthy since it isn't greasy it does the job. After restaurant prices are getting expensive, this is my go to when I want something healthy but on a budget.
I think this place is absolutely incredible. The service was top tier. The restaurant was clean and inviting. The food was all delicious. They had a buy 3 get 1 free on the rolls. We got the Black Mamba, Skittles, Surf & Turf, and Krunchy Mango rolls. Definitely delicious and fulfilling. We also ordered the Unagi Nigiri and the Spicy Scallop Nigiri. The scallops just melts in your mouth and had a nice kick to it. I fully recommend this place and give it a 10/10!!
My friends and I came in for dinner around 6:30pm on a Thursday and got a table right away. There were so many options, so it took a while for us to order. We didn't feel like AYCE price is worth it, as the AYCE price for 1 person essentially could feed all 3 of us if we order rolls. We ordered: lion king, chainsmoker, crunchy mango, and butterface. Crunchy mango was my favorite; it had a little spice to it. Lion king was okay. The cheese sauce felt overwhelming. The other 2 were pretty creamy, and they were not bad at all. There are a lot of seatings, and it's very spacious inside. I honestly don't think AYCE menu is worth it right now, and I honestly prefer ordering different rolls like this. I will definitely be back to try more.

Outdated interior, unassuming exterior, and located in a lesser trafficked strip mall - the hallmarks of affordable and yummy sushi, especially the AYCE option. I came on a Friday around 6PM, and there were plenty of seats. You get 3 rounds, and IIRC it's limited to 3 rolls per person per round, which is perfect since you will get charged for being unable to finish. My wife and I came in super hungry, and we felt pretty full after 2 full rounds with some other dishes. The best roll we had was definitely the Kakuna Roll (seared salmon), which is their signature. The raw fish on the other rolls tasted pretty fresh, and they also offer sashimi for a premium price (also AYCE!!). I like how the rice isn't overdone, and neither was the mayo/sauce. Every roll looked unique and had good presentation, and even tasted slightly different. They all looked pretty close to singular sushi orders at other restaurants, and taste similar if not better (ex rainbow roll, caterpillar, etc). Service can be take ~10min during peak times, but otherwise don't be afraid to just call a server over for ordering since it can get busy. They were all super friendly and had smiles when talked to! Ever since another AYCE sushi spot closed for certain reasons, this place has been my go to, and I don't think I'll look around for more unless they close too. Solid service, solid food, and solid prices, it's one of the few bastions not yet "gentrified" by the AI tech wave.
Went to all you can eat sushi at Kakuna sushi for lunch. We did the regular AYCE option and it was more than enough. The appetizers and baked rolls are filling. We enjoyed all the sushi rolls we ordered but I particularly liked the gilroy garlic roll and the kakuna roll. The mango crunch roll was pleasant also with fresh cut mango. If you do the ACYE, you have 90 minutes and any pieces left or uneaten is $1.50 per piece. There is plenty of seating inside. There is a strange smell when you first walk in. Service was slow and could be better. Parking is a small parking lot. Otherwise, the food is good and I will come back when I have a sushi craving.
I really wanted to like Kakuna Sushi, but my experience was pretty disappointing. I ordered the Surf n Turf Roll and the KB 8/24 Roll for pickup. The meat on the Surf n Turf Roll was extremely chewy and bland it didn't add anything to the roll and honestly felt out of place. The KB 8/24 Roll was worse. The fish tasted very fishy and not fresh at all. I took one bite and couldn't finish it. I did order for pickup, so the food sat in the container for about 10ish minutes for the drive back to my house, but I've had takeout sushi before and haven't had issues like this. For what I paid, I expected much better.
The kind of stairs I don't complain about haha! I stopped by solo so I could really only order for myself and I really wanted the Moriwase, as it was a sushi staircase. I didn't know each piece came with wasabi, otherwise, I would have asked for it without. Nevertheless, each piece was so fresh! They also don't skim on the fish, each piece had a thick piece of fish. Definitely a spot to bring friends and try a bunch of different rolls!

They have a huge array of options, whether it's regular classic rolls to deep fried and baked roll options which is great for people who can't eat all raw. Love their kamikaze and dragon roll. They're big rolls with plenty of fish. They have plenty of plate and bento options as well. I haven't done their AYCE option, so hard to judge that. Overall, their staff is hard working and nice. Orders come out pretty quickly as well. Great casual sushi/Japanese spot. Will be back!

Luv my local Kakuna! They always greet you on arrival and get us seated and menus out. Everything I've tried has been good here and at a value too! The Oishi is becoming a Favorite along with the Gaijin and the Kakuna of course. The Bentos are a great deal and good portions. Don't let the unassuming mini mall discourage you from trying a great little Sushi spot in the Mil-pi-tas area. Good stuff ! read more

AYCE is very worth it, they give really big portions of fish and the rolls are tasty. We also got 49ers, sumo and hokkaido rolls. I would say this was the best raw salmon i've had from AYCE sushi places in the area! read more

Took down one star because service was a little slow and no one really checked up on our table after seating us. It took us about an hour after being seated to receiving our food. I got the nigiri moriwase which was 9 pieces of nigiri for $23.99. Cuts were thick and the wasabi on top was a perfect pairing with the fish. It's really good value for the cuts and fish imo (especially coming from Seattle). The nigiri moriwase set unexpectedly filled me up! I'll be back to get it again :) read more
We came in New Year's Day. What a great way to start 2026 with sashimi, an orange blossom roll, and volcano roll. They give a lot of ginger which I appreciate and offer water or hot tea. Only one other table of ppl when we walked in but by the time we left the room was 75% full. We were seated right away and servers were good about checking in and answering questions. We really liked the sashimi platter with 3 fat cuts of each fish. Salmon was my favorite but the white fish was surprisingly good with a nice meaty texture. It was also topped with chopped wasabi greens, which was a nice change and better flavor to me. Orange blossom is good because they have good salmon and didn't add too much rice. I'd skip the volcano roll next time. Not bad but too much mayo and less flavor than other similar rolls we've had. Also the floors are pretty slippery, so be careful. Overall a great experience. Prices are standard and AYCE is a good deal for lunch if you're hungry ($35/person) I think we'll be back! read more

Kakuna Sushi is one of the places that does change my mind about rolls. I usually don't go for rolls, but I do find myself coming here when I want something more indulgent. Their rolls are huge, really good quality, and priced well. Everything is super flavorful and they come up with unique combinations that actually work. It's a great takeout spot or quick dine in option. Service is fast and gets the job done. Inside can get pretty noisy and it does kind of smell like mop water the times I've gone, which is why I usually prefer to take it to go. read more
Me and my friends went to Kakuna Sushi today around 6:50 PM. The restaurant looked pretty empty when we arrived, so we expected the food to come out quickly. The ambiance itself was very basic and quiet, nothing particularly memorable or inviting, and it felt a bit dull even as more people came in. As we placed our order, it became clear that the kitchen and service were struggling to keep up. It felt like there were only about three staff members working that night, which made the service extremely slow. We went on a Wednesday night and chose the premium AYCE option, but it still took about 30 minutes for our appetizers to arrive. The food was hit or miss. The yellowtail tasted overly fishy, while the salmon nigiri was my favorite and one of the better items we tried. The edamame was good, but that's pretty hard to mess up. I ordered a Coke but it didn't arrive until about 30 minutes later, near the end of the meal, when I was already finished eating. We were charged a leftover fee, which was fair since we were full and understood the policy. However, other dishes were disappointing. The salmon carpaccio was very salty, and the ramen pork belly bowl was overcooked. The pork belly was extremely chewy and not enjoyable. Overall, this wasn't a very impressive place for AYCE sushi. Between the slow service, inconsistent food quality, and lackluster ambiance, it didn't feel worth the premium price. read more

If you know me I am always craving sushi (I could eat it every day if I could!) but like everything nowadays it is pricey so I will usually save it for days I wanna "treat" myself. We have tried the other Kakuna locations but the quality at this location is a stand out from the others. The portion and prices are unbeatable compared of other sushi places as well! Truly the freshness and quality of their fish is just amazing... and for those prices?! Can't beat it! Ambiance and decor is simple so not much to write about in that aspect but that really does not matter when the food always hits the spot! One thing to point out - they do not sell alcohol so keep that in mind if you were looking to sip on some hot sake or cold beer with your sushi. They also started doing AYCE! We had no idea they started doing that until they included a paper checklist with all their items along with the menu. So we will definitely be back to try that out! read more

Kakuna Sushi is our new go-to spots when I want good sushi without breaking the bank. The dining area is spacious and perfect for big groups, which I appreciated after first coming here for a friend's birthday. Our whole party left happy. The food is solid and well-priced. I usually grab a bento box for around $15-$20 and always have enough to take leftovers home. The portions, especially the teriyaki chicken or beef are generous and you can mix and match with tempura, California rolls, and gyoza. The sushi is fresh, tasty and well portioned, great value for what you get. Service is fast and friendly, and I love that they refill your water and tea without you even asking. Affordable, filling, and reliable. I will definitely be back and I already recommend this place to friends and family. read more
The place is not busy, sat down right away. However, it did take some time waiting for the rolls. The poke Japanese nachos was my favorite thing. So fire!! I love the crunchy pieces and it was so flavorful and fresh. I love how they served it. My favorite rolls were the Cap'n Crunch and the kakuna roll. Love the textures and flavors. I had lunch with my mom. This location is larger than the one on McKee Road/Alum Rock. Small parking lot here. The have 2 separate single-user unisex restrooms (one on each side of the restaurant). The service was good and friendly. We both ordered the... Short Rib Bento. Served with miso soup, house salad, fried gyoza, steamed rice, and orange slices. We added vegetable Tempura +$4. I recently visited Kakuna sushi and they served some of the best rolls I've had in a long time. The sushi was fresh, beautifully presented, and full of flavor, making it the highlight of the experience. Unfortunately, the service didn't match the quality of the food. The staff seemed disorganized, and it took a while to get our orders and refills. With a bit more attention to customer service, this place could easily become a top spot for sushi lovers. read more

Honestly for sushi on a budget, this place is not bad! My husband and I grabbed a late lunch and I kid you not, we were full from 2pm until 10pm and that's with a 3 hr pickleball session too. My husband can eat. Like 3 double doubles at in n out and he can be hungry in 3 hours. We spent less than $100 for 5 rolls. They did not skimp on the fish and they didn't over do it on the rice. The service was great and so attentive and they got a TV with sports playing. The fish quality was not the best but not bad and this is definitely a sauced up roll so it can get overwhelming but for the price I'd definitely come back. read more

The menu is huge! I love their variety of affordable rolls under $15. I always get their lunch special - buy 3 sushi rolls to get a 4th roll free. The super crunch was my favorite. We ordered the crunchy roll, mango roll, mussles, bougie roll (the tempura lobster was amazing), masubi (spam and rice), and the bang bang roll. The prices are great and the service was super fast. read more
Had a pleasantly delicious dinner last night with a friend around 6pm. For mid-tier sushi, Kakuna here in Milpitas is now top of my list for the South Bay. Plenty of seating that filled up fairly quick for a Thursday night. Ambiance is kind of eerie. Exterior is very unassuming, interior feels like a cafeteria. Old school restaurant chairs that belong in a pho place. In a way, it kind of adds to the "hole-in-the-wall" charm. Servers didn't really look like they wanna be there. You do have to chase them down for things. Food was great. We had a seaweed salad app, the Boujee Roll to share, and two sets of the Nigiri Moriwase which is a 9pc omakase. All that for about it $80 after tax pre-tip was a fantastic bang for your buck. The fish quality's a lot better than others in this mid-tier class. Some nigiri were downright melt in your mouth. As for the Boujee roll, they definitely fried up a whole lobster tail as it was no skimpy at all. I'd get the same order again next time. Would love to check out their other locations to see how they compare and am definitely returning here to assess consistency. 4/5 overall, will be back. read more

Don't even think about it, just go! Great menu that won't disappoint. I dont remember what we ordered but they all turned out really good. My roll had the lobster. Yum yum yum. The outside of the restaurant was pretty plain - doesn't have that welcoming inviting curb appeal but you will be greeted with a warm hello as soon as you walk in. Will definitely pay this place a visit when we are back in town. Friendly service and attentive staff. WIN! read more
Located in Milpitas, parking is plentiful and easy to find. Noise level is average. I have to say some of their rolls are quite interesting. There's one called the Charizard that has hot Cheetos. Food is absolutely amazing. Presentation was very cool for the nigiri ladder. I loved the chilly mango roll. The texture was so unique and the balance of flavors were on point. Overall Kakuna Sushi a great sushi spot. The service is good as well. Added bonus of a cool name and subtle pokemon theme going on. read more

The service was good, on par to standard. It was pretty quiet with a little T.V noise in the background. The food was not on par...I have had better experiences from the Fremont location. I think I came excited because I enjoy Kakuna's but this location was met with disappointment. The staff were helpful and willing, so there's no feedback there. I mean the toro nigiri was not a disappointment, so not all was bad. I really enjoy eating lion king rolls, but this one tasted off that day I went. I ended up not togo-ing the leftovers because I didn't feel it was good or worth togo-ing. I am unfortunately not going to be coming back to this specific location, but I highly encourage others to give it a try and determine their own opinions! read more

My new go-to sushi spot! So happy to have found Kakuna cause they make delicious rolls at an affordable price. I typically go during happy hour and splurge on the multi-roll deals. The Kakuna Roll is one of my favorites and their extensive menu offers numerous options. Service is friendly and quick too. I've never had a problem with waiting for seating either. Looking forward to many more visits in the future. read more

Do they offer a baked seafood dynamite? It’s not the dynamite roll but more a Baked dynamite seafood rice appetizer baked in a casserole, ramekin or foil tin that’s on the menu, secret menu or by special request?
How much for toro and uni?
I believe they're market price, so better to ask them on the day you plan to go. There was no price tag on the menu for them.
