When I heard milpitas had a Taishoken, I was happy to head over as it is closer to me than San Mateo. The Milpitas location is larger while the San Mateo location feels more intimate. Think I prefer the San Mateo one more having experienced both. I got the same dish Spicy Tsukemen and it was just as delicious as I remembered it however was sad that my soup base came surprisingly lukewarm closer to room temp. My sister got the same order too and we were slightly debating if we wanted to ask them to reheat it a bit more. From our experience at San Mateo, the soup should have came with some steam oozing out so maybe we went on an off day for Milpitas. We got the takoyaki for an appetizer and liked the batter they had. The yuzu beer was good too! read more

We really like this ramen house. Their Tokusei Tsukemen is especially tasty. The dry noodles are served with a flavorful sauce, and you dip the noodles into the sauce with every bite. This keeps the noodles fresh and not soggy like they would be if sitting in broth. That said, their regular ramen is also very good. I had the Tori Chintan, and it hit the spot perfectly. The restaurant is located in the Ranch 99 Market plaza, very close to Mayflower Restaurant. Service is friendly and fast, making for a satisfying meal every time. read more

We stopped by on a Friday at lunch and there was a bit of line to my surprise. After trying it though, I totally understand the hype. This place has the best tsukumen I've ever tried. We ordered two of the tokusei tsukumen and everything was perfection. The noodles were perfectly thick and chewy; the dipping soup was so savory, rich, and flavorful; and the pork belly it came with was lifechanging. It was so perfectly tender and melt in your mouth that I was sad to finish it so quickly. Pretty clean and casual spot and in a plaza with a lot of competition, but I would absolutely come back here again for another tsukumen. read more

I. Love. It. I have gone to the Mountain View location so I was super happy when I found out they are opening this in a plaza close by. This is in the super super busy plaza where alot of other eating establishments are. I usually do not like going here but alot of my favorite spots are here so I have no choice. Yes parking can be difficult in the busier times. This place gets packed. I usually go on yelp to see what the wait times are before we go so I can plan ahead. It hasn't been too bad though, at max we waited 20mins. Taishoken specializes in Tsukemen style of ramen. The noodles are thick and straight, served warm on the side with the proteins on top. Then you get a nice bowl of concentrated broth to dip your noodles in. This style of ramen is usually enjoyed more in summer months. Their broth is pretty delicious. I think it is a mix of pork, chicken, and anchovies. There's also a tang from maybe a vinegar in there. Super savory, umami, all those words. lol The noodles are perfect vehicle to the savory broth. The cuts of chashu are soft and melts in your mouth. The shoyu egg is soft and cooked to perfection. Everything I want and expect tsukemen would taste. I usually also ask for more broth to add to the dipping broth to dilute it so I can easily sip on it. Nice end to the meal. I have also tried the sand storm calamari, the karaage, and hiyayakko. Price is to expected, honestly not too bad for amazing food. Highly recommend. read more

Taishoken is a great option for ramen in the area. I'll typically come here with my coworkers for lunch and we can usually get a seat without a long wait. Ambiance is very pleasant and the staff are always nice. THINGS I'D RECOMMEND: - Mazesoba: had this on my recent visit, and will now be my go to order. It was so good! Great bounce to the noodles, good flavor and great portion. - Niku Spicy Ramen: good flavors if you enjoy a sweet spice - Signature Ramen: can't go wrong! - Sandstorm Calamari: pleasantly surprised! Really tasty and tender. Hot take, I'm not the biggest fan of the tsukemen here. I think the noodles are too heavy and I often feel like it's missing something. I also would pass on the cucumber salad. read more

We tried this ramen place in the evening. The price felt reasonable and the portion size was decent, but the broth was a bit too light, so it lacked flavor and ended up tasting slightly greasy. Overall, the noodles were good and the restaurant was quite clean. If you have never tried it before, it is worth giving it a try. read more

I've been to the SF location and the San Mateo location so I was pumped when a location opened closer to me in Milpitas. The restaurant is bright, clean, and inviting. The food at this location is just as good as the SF or San Mateo one and more accessible for people in the East Bay. Our waiter Jonathan was awesome and all over the place, he really killed it tonight and was on top of it. read more

So disgusted. Ordered a cold tofu dish and on the bottom was a cluster of black hair. Lost my appetite and was scared to eat the rest of the food. Server and manager apologized and asked if I wanted something else and they would comp it. Should have comp my whole meal bc how am I supposed to eat after seeing the amount of hair that a girl would have on her brush under my tofu. Didn't eat much and we were uncomfortable after that. It almost seemed it was intentionally put there bc who could have really missed that?! Never in my life I have been served food with MULTIPLE strands of hair. Never coming back. Nasty. read more

Tokyo Classic Aburasoba is my go to for Taishoken! It is soupless and isn't salty. Vinegar is provided in the side to add a tangy profile to the meal. The meat was very flavorful and tender. Came here on a Monday evening 6pm, and no wait. Service was friendly, albeit slow. It took a few flag downs to get our order taken (even though the restaurant wasn't full at all in the beginning) and a few more to get the check at the end of the meal. We ordered the mazesoba and tsukemen. Food came out super fast. Both dishes were good. The soupless mazesoba is like a Japanese carbonara. It comes hot and topped with an egg yolk that you stir in. The dish is pretty rich, but tasty. Tsukemen was pretty standard, the meat was nice and tender, and the egg was spot on. I do wish they had more bamboo shoots and green onions in the dipping broth, I had to go fishing for those elements. We were never offered our soup-wari, so that was a bit disappointing. Again, that might be due to the slow service, and by that time we were ready for our check. read more

I'm a repeat customer at Taishoken. I love their food, from their tsukemen to their mazesoba. I have yet to try their ramen, but I'm sure it's delicious too! My go-to is the Tokusei Tsukemen. Their dipping broth is incredibly savory and full of umami, and their al dente and chewy wheat noodles pair so well with it. I like that their chashu is served two ways. I personally prefer the sous vide version because it's really tender, but the seared version gives you a satisfying meaty mouthfeel. The mazesoba is a little bit on the heavier side with its creaminess, but the vinegar does help cut some of that creaminess. It's equally as flavor-packed as their tsukemen. I'm glad there's a really good tsukemen place in my neighborhood now! read more

A solid ramen option in Milpitas, probably one of the better ones in the area but at a higher price point as well. The service is top notch, if it is your first time trying the Tsukumen Ramen then they explain the process to you nicely which is great. There are even instructions on the menu on how to eat. I tried the Tokusei Ramen, Tokusei Tsukumen and Niku Spicy Ramen. Tokusei Ramen - the noodles were fresh and had great texture. The broth was mild in flavor, I would have liked a richer flavor. The quantity of ramen was lesser than some of the other popular ramen spots in bay area. Tokusei Tsukumen - This is their most popular dish. Although the dish was good overall, I do think that the flavor of the dipping sauce/broth wasn't rich enough and once you add hot water it dilutes way too much. I have had Tsukumen before and the broth upon adding hot water does not dilute in flavor as much as it did here. But again, the texture of the noodles was pretty good. Niku Spicy Ramen - A spicy take on ramen here with a lot of chilli oil spicy flavor. It was my least favourite dish here. I usually like a spicy version of ramen so it was a bit disappointing. All in all, I liked their ambience and service more than their food. I would like to give them another shot and try their cold noodle dishes and some of their appetizers next time. I enjoyed the texture of the noodles in all their dishes that I tried so I am hoping their cold noodle dishes are solid dishes. read more

I had the pleasure of visiting Taishoken in Milipitas for the first time back in May this year, and it turned out to be a delightful discovery that I won't soon forget and this is why I am writing this review five months later. My cousin brought me here for dinner during my visit to San Jose, and he knew exactly what to introduce me to: tsukumen! A culinary experience I had somehow missed despite spending three years living in Japan and eating ramen countless times. He and his wife recently discovered tsukumen during a trip to Japan a few months prior and had developed a genuine passion for it. He even gave me a brief history lesson of Taishoken's heritage. Eager to share that same discovery with me, he suggested we both order the Tokusei Tsukumen, and I'm so glad he did. The dipping broth was rich, flavorful, and deeply satisfying although it cools down fast if you don't slurp those noodles quickly. Taishoken has earned a place on my must-visit list, maybe even visit their Tokyo location in the future. Whether you're a tsukumen veteran or, like me, someone experiencing it for the first time, this restaurant delivers an authentic and memorable meal. I highly recommend it to anyone in the San Jose area looking for exceptional ramen. read more

Rating: 3.7/5 [dine in] My family and I came here for Sunday lunch and were seated right away. Service was fine, but we felt the flavors were lacking, and the noodles were overpriced for what we got. Yuzu Shio Ramen ($17): The broth was way too salty, so my mom had to add extra broth to dilute it. It also only came with one piece of tofu, which really didn't feel worth the price. Tokyo Classic Aburasoba ($17): The sauce coated the noodles well and grew on me the more I ate. I love thick egg noodles, so this was right up my alley, and the bamboo had great flavor. The portion was much larger than the Yuzu Shio, and I even had leftovers. My only complaint was that it came with just one slice of meat. While I did enjoy it, I couldn't help but compare it to Menya Hanabi in LA, which still has the best mazesoba I've had. Niku Spicy Ramen ($20): My brother ordered this one, which was actually my second choice. read more

Came here on a Friday night around 8pm and we snagged the last table. We were helped really quickly and food came out quickly as well. We decided on tokusei tsukemen and Niku spicy ramen. Tokeusei tsukemen 3/5: broth has a really strong anchovy taste, noodle has a good chew to it, not bad, but not my favorite. Niku spicy ramen 2.5/5: the broth was really thick, it's as if they cooked the noodles in the broth and the starch made it thick; broth was not spicy, and the noodle is the really thin type, which I am not a fan of. If you like the thin noodles, you may like the ramen here. Overall, it's an okay place. I'm not sure if I would come back again, as there are a lot of food options around here. read more

Came with my fiancé on a Saturday around 8:30pm and were seated within 5 minutes. Taishoken is in the McCarthy Ranch plaza with plenty of parking, though it does get busy on weekends. The interior is modern, clean, and well-lit, and the staff were friendly, attentive, and fast. What we tried: * Tokusei Tsukemen: Known for their tsukemen, and it didn't disappoint! The noodles were perfectly chewy, and the broth was flavorful without being too salty. There was a subtle citrus note that my fiancé loved it, though it's not my personal favorite. 5/5 * Tokusei Ramen: Honestly my favorite here. Chewy noodles, rich umami-packed broth, and perfectly cooked smoky chashu. Definitely my go-to. 5/5 * Takoyaki (not pictured because we demolished it so fast): Highly recommend! Crispy on the outside, soft inside, with a unique add-on of egg tartar topping that adds extra richness. 5+/5 Overall, a great spot for ramen and Japanese bites. Will definitely be back next time I'm in the area! read more

Walked in shortly after opening time on a Saturday afternoon and was welcomed warmly! We were seated immediately and given menus. Loved the ambiance and decor! Waiter explained their history and how the dipping ramen recipe is 3 generations going back to Japan. So of course, we opted for 2 bowls! Their noodles are nice and chewy and their broth was thick and stuck well to the noodles. Also got an order of their spicy miso cucumbers which were super crispy and fresh. Paired well with our ramen. Great healthy portion of noodles and proteins! We left very full and satisfied. Great addition to the area and appreciate the warm customer service. Nothing more satisfying than a warm Tsukemen on a cold raining day. We came in right when they opened at 11:30am and were seated immediately. Glad we came early because about 10 mins later the place started to fill up! We ordered the spicy Tsukemen $22 and it was perfect. The chashu was melt in your mouth and came with 2 pieces. The soft boiled egg was one of the flavorful perfect cooked eggs I've ever eaten. The noodles had a nice bounce and chew to it. The bowl is quite generous and also comes with 1 piece of nori. I opted to get the spice on the side and add as I go. I wasn't sure how spicy it was going to be and it's tolerable not too crazy spicy. Now the broth, dipping sauce was a little thick but so super flavorful. I dunked my noodles (it's cold) into the hot broth and it was like heaven in my mouth... so so good. They servers also come back to see if you would like more broth. This thins out the soup a bit and brings your cold soup back to life cuz cold soup is not tasty. Each slurp with a bit of all of it takes me back to my time in Japan. I'm glad we're able to enjoy this here whenever you are missing this dish. I also ordered the matcha green tea which was refreshing to wash down the noodles. It does get a little bit salty if you eat too much of the broth so make sure not to drink the whole bowl even though I was almost going to! Overall I would totally come back. I want to try the other appetizers and dishes! read more

DoorDash lunch order on a rainy day. The food delivery time is not bad, in the peak lunch hour after ordering, we got our food in 20 minutes. Tsukemen is what I ordered. The packaging was good, the meat was isolated from the noodle and the dipping sauce or broth. The volume doesn't look generous compared to the price of $19 where there's only one piece of chashu only. Pay $3 more you'll get Tokusei Tsukemen, which includes an egg. The dipping sauce is rich and I could taste the dashi flavor in it. The noodle is buckwheat that doesn't make me fall into a food coma after lunch. I do wish there're more toppings to keep the meal healthier and more balanced. The Spicy Ramen is a soup ramen that also comes with separating package of meat and broth. The noodle is the thin white one. It looks fine but I would probably complain about the volume. The Karaage(Fried chicken) is never good for take out as it's no longer crispy. It comes with a mayo dressing on the side. The chicken are chunky and the taste is fine, no complain here. read more

Taishoken has been on my list ever since they opened their Milpitas location. My family and I finally stopped by on a Tuesday night around 7 PM, and the restaurant was about half full. We ordered the chicken karaage, Sandstorm calamari, spicy ramen, and Tokusei tsukemen. The calamari wasn't spicy at all, which was a pleasant surprise since I'm usually sensitive to heat and was a bit nervous about trying it. The spicy ramen was pretty standard, while the Tokusei tsukemen was rich and flavorful with a nice depth to the broth. Overall, our meal was good, but it didn't quite leave me with that "I need to come back soon" feeling. It's a solid spot to try once or to grab dinner with friends if you're in the area. BIG Taishoken fan here, so I was soo happy to see them pop up closer to me in Milpitas! They're located in a popular plaza, parking can be a hassle and the wait can be long too. Every time I've driven by, I've seen a large queue out the door. We visited on a Friday night around 7PM and were lucky that there was no wait lol. You can join the waitlist by using the iPad located right outside the entrance. I ordered their classic Tokusei Tsukemen ($21). I looove how bouncy the noodles are here. The pork always has the perfect meat-to-fat ratio. And coupled with the rich and umami broth, it's a great meal!! :) Other favorites that I have from Taishoken are the mazesoba - you can't really go wrong with any of their noodle options though. Our server was friendly and our food all came out not too long after ordering. Would definitely recommend especially if you're looking for a new spot to try in the area! read more

Taishoken was featured on Mikey Chen's Strictly Dumplings! This specific location! While Taishoken was good, it just didn't blow me away. However, I'd like to try again. The issue I had was that the Niku Spicy I had, which was too salty. My wife's broth was clean and smooth, but just adding some spiciness made it overly salty, which it shouldn't. The calamari was good. I'd try this again, but because the Bay Area has decent ramen places, the standards are set a bit higher. Service was super quick, but not very hospitable. Very much like a business. The restaurant is cool, has that old fashioned ramen look but modernized. Plenty of parking in the lot. read more

I went with the Mazesoba this time since I had tried the dipping ramen at the San Mateo location and found it a bit too salty for my taste. The noodles here were chewy, flavorful, and the portion size was generous--I really enjoyed the dish. What took away from the experience, though, was the service. 4/5 Why is it 4/5? When i walked in, they greeted me with a smile and im big on that because I like to feel welcome, as many people do. The water, i know its a weird thing to mention but the water is a 10/10 (the great service plays a role into this) Im a heavy water drinker and the water tasted really good and clean, and on top of that, they were really attentive and filling my water without me even saying anything. Now the food: When I get any kind of soup, i always taste the broth because it's the most important thing and you can always judge a place based on the broth. Upon first sip, it was a little lacking in the flavor department, and I felt that it needed a little something, luckily on the table, there was a little pot with some chilli powder in it and it gave it that little touch of flavor it needed. Taishoken is located in the Milpitas Square and takes the place of where QQ Noodle used to be, close to Mayflower Restaurant. Plenty of parking, though challenging during peak hours, weekends, or special holidays. I was looking forward to this place as I've passed by their first location in San Mateo. Simple modern decor with inside seating only. The service was very friendly and attentive! *Karaage: Classic Japanese Fried Chicken with mayo (4/5). *Tokusei Tsukemen: cold thick noodles with a rich dipping sauce made from pork, chicken, dried anchovies, and bonito. Topped with two kinds of pork, egg, memma, nori seaweed, and green onions (4/5). Personally, I enjoyed the thickness of the noodles; bouncy and chewy. The dipping sauce was delicious and hot as you slurped up the noodles. The egg was nicely cooked with the yolk being a bit runny and creamy. At the end of your meal, if you have any dipping sauce left remaining, you can ask for broth to be added to your remaining dipping sauce so you can drink it if you prefer. *Impossible Dandan Men: soupless vegetarian options with a spicy sesame and soy base, topped with plant based meat, fried noodles, cilantro, nuts, pickled red cabbage, bock choy, and yellow onions (3/5). Flavorful, but the noodles were slumped together, so it needed a bit of oil. In a pinch, our friend used her husband's dipping sauce. *Tori Chintan Ramen (Limited quantity): salt-based chicken and kombu umami broth, topped with chicken chashu, egg, roasted tomato, and julienned green onions (4/5). My wife enjoyed her dish. Simple yet flavorful broth and she liked the chicken chashu. There was a citrus-y thing she ate that was really good! *Lychee Sorbet - flavorful with bits of lychee fruit in it. It was a nice palette cleanser. read more

I was excited when Taishoken was coming down to the south bay, i have been to their San Mateo location a few times and it's been pretty good. It's located in a nice plaza with a-lot of other restaurants, the parking in this plaza is notorious for being hard. I recommend coming on off hours. We came during lunch time and i was pleasantly surprised that there was no wait and we were seated quick. Note that they do have an online yelp waitlist option when it is busy. Interior decor is pretty nice and upscale. I got the Takoyaki and the Tori Chintan Ramen. The Tori Chintan was excellent. The chicken broth was great, there were big chicken pieces. They had some spicy powder on the table so you can adjust the spice level. High marks for the ramen. The Takoyaki i was not a fan of. It seemed weird with the egg tartar sauce and i felt conflicted with the okonomiyaki sauce. It also did not look too aesthetically pleasing, and was not crispy on the outside. Also there was no bonito flakes, felt a-bit empty without that. I would not get the Takoyaki again. Overall it's a nice place to eat. Will come back again. read more

Ordered the aburasoba and I don't think I'll eat anything else here. This dish was so tasty, with the chewy noodles, silky egg yolk, juicy pork, and fresh green onions. It also came with a side of vinegar (I think) to help cut through the fattiness of the dish, which was a great addition to it. I did try the dipping noodles but preferred this dish over that. Tori Chintan Ramen (3/5): This is a limited dish - only 14 bowls are made daily due to the time it takes to make compared to the other ramens. The broth is clean, light, and flavorful. Would come back again! We came here on a Sunday and had minimal wait time. I'm told it gets busy during Friday/Saturday, would recommend putting your name on the waitlist if you are close by! We tried the tsukemen and the tokusen ramen. The tsukemen is probably one of the better ones I've tried - I like the fact that it's not too salty but still flavorful. The chasu cooked 2 ways is also an added plus. I made the mistake of adding the soup too early, as the dipping sauce no longer clung onto the noodles. The diluted broth itself was still flavorful though! Although I think this place is known for their tsukemen, our friends liked the mazesoba better. Their karaage is also top notch! 09/31/2025 came here around 1:50. Had to unfortunately WALK OUT We were first on the waitlist (party of 2) and was told that it will take abt 5 mins for the party to finish and clean the table. So we waited. But then people who just joined the waitlist (party of 4ish) were allowed to enter and sit. And not just one but two entire parties. They apparently seated them in the four table seating and was trying to wait for a two table seating for us. However, it just doesn't settle right for me. First come first serve and if you want me to sit in the two party seating, make the other two parties wait till all our tables are cleared. No form of communication, either from the host. If he had said something, I would have let it slide. Plus, it was extremely hot that week, reaching 91 degrees outside, where I had to wait. It was not only DISRESPECTFUL but also A SLAP IN THE FACE. Horrible seating service. Review based on service only. It would be hard for me to come back after this kind of hosting. read more

Tokyo classic aburasoba - 5/5- someone described this as a Japanese carbonara which is a nice analogy. It was very savory, I only wish it came with a soft boiled jammy egg too. Loved this dish.
