    Niku Spicy Ramen
    Emily H.

I love this place! I've been here many times and is one of my go to spots when I'm craving ramen. My recent favorite dish is the Niku spicy ramen. This is your traditional ramen with a broth. When I want to eat ramen, this is exactly what I imagine a bowl of ramen looking like. The spice is perfect and the broth is so flavorful. The only issue is you can't really drink the broth after you finish the noodles because it is a bit spicy and salty too. The noodles are the perfect consistency and the fixings are also so good such as the egg and the seaweed. I've also gotten the Tsukemen before and I love that you can get the broth added at the end to drink the dipping bowl. The service is good here but if you come at a popular time there may be a wait.

Love the Taishoken in San Mateo and was so excited to find one in Milpitas! Came in on a Sunday night around 7pm and got seated right away. All the staff that we interacted with were really nice, but Vivian was awesome. She was friendly, professional and just had great energy. I always order Mazesoba when I visit Taishoken and it was great as usual - hot, gooey and umami. 10/10 forever a fan.

Went here for an early birthday dinner with my family. They accommodated our walk-in large group of 10 around 7pm very quickly as it was not too busy on a Wednesday. The waitress was conversational and was very kind to explain the menu to us twice because the other half of the table couldn't hear LOL. We got their appetizers of chicken karage and tofu. The chicken batter was flavorful but the meat could've been more marinated. The tofu had anchovies on it and added rich flavor! Spontaneously ran into my friend who was also dining at the same time and she sent over two surprise cocktails to my table which our waitress kindly brought over! I got the dipping ramen (tsukemen) and it was delicious. The broth is thicker and adhered well to the noodles. I just wished there was more meat because there was a lot of noodles. Clean restaurant and sleek interior. Parking is within a plaza so during dinner times it may be tricky to find parking and you may have to park further.

Place was busy, they sat us close to others when there was space to spread out so not sure why they did that but we made it work. Clean and bright setting. Server was ok, seemed to rush us a bit, assumed we had all be there before when we hadn't. It was mine and my husband's first time. Food was out pretty timely. The food made it worth it. Ramen was cooked perfectly, plenty of noodles and the broth was flavorful and smooth. The chicken karaage was crispy and tender. Cucumber was very good , can't remember exact name of item but really liked this dish. Edamame was nothing special, just ok. I would come back

We arrived around 4pm on a Saturday and were quickly seated. Our food came out quick and the staff were always very attentive, removing old plates and bowls as we were finishing up each of the dishes. We got the kaarage to start with which was super juicy and crispy. As someone who loves sauce, I really appreciated the absolute heap of mayo that came with the kaarage. Easily 5/5 side dish I got the aburasoba which was a really good portion. I would've preferred more toppings but taste wise it was still great. I had some of the tokusei ramen broth which was well seasoned and light yet still had a decent amount of depth in flavor. My partner really enjoyed it. The restaurant was quite casual and could seat groups of many different sizes.

Seating 5/5: The dining room was beautiful with lots of decoration and cool lighting. The space felt very open with lots of natural lighting. Tokusei tsukemen 5/5: Super rich, flavorful broth. The buckwheat noodles were perfectly cooked and eating the cold noodles with the hot broth made the noodles hold the flavor much better. The meat was sous-vide and so tender. Tokusei ramen 4/5: It was savory and rich, I just prefer the tsukemen. Good option for those that prefer standard ramen. Chili-crisp cucumber 3/5: The cucumbers were fresh and crisp, but there was too much miso paste for our liking. Definitely check this place out! They can be quite busy, if you can join the waitlist from yelp ahead of time.

Wow we loved our meal here at Taishoken! We ordered: *Tokusei Tsukemen *Mazesoba *Sapporo We arrived at 8pm and there was no wait. Drinks and food came quickly after we ordered and the food is simply delicious.

    Takoyaki

Got the Tokusei Tsukemen as the entree and takoyaki as an appetizer. Both were incredible! To start off with the Tsukemen is what they specialize in, the thick noodle was chewy and the soup clung onto the noodle perfectly. The two different pork slices were extremely tender and the egg was cooked and seasoned perfectly. The broth was wonderful as well, as it was tasty and not too salty. Adding chili powder to it made it perfect! As for the takoyaki, it was topped with what I believe was egg salad which is not something I have seen before but was incredible! The takoyaki itself was cooked well and there were good pieces of octopus inside and the egg salad was also delicious even on its own! Staff were very attentive and helpful, giving us recommendations and refilling our waters quickly. We were also greeted upon entering and as we were leaving. I would love to come back and try more of their menu :) Thanks for the wonderful experience!

Get on the Yelp waitlist before you arrive! I am always craving ramen and I was not sure how this one didn't hit my radar for so long. Decor is nice and clean. Lot of the natural wood color which seems to be the contemporary choice of decor these days. We got all our usual favorites.. Tori chintan ramen- 4.5/5- very light and refreshing broth. Not a great depth of flavor but whatever it had was sufficient for me. Chicken seemed to be roasted and was beautifully cooked without any funky taste or smell. This is easily the best version of chicken I had among all the chicken ramen bowls I had so far. Came with an egg which had a wonderful jammy center. Toppings were onions and a roasted slice of tomato. Seemed unconventional for me but delicious nonetheless. Chicken karaage-2.5/5- weakest chicken karaage I had in a Japanese restaurant, the batter was clumped in places and weakly hung onto the meat. The meat was suspiciously undercooked. Kids curry chicken plate-3.5/5- wonderful curry. This came with some sticky rice and the same chicken karaage. The rice and curry combo was delectable, the karaage weakened the dish. Niki spicy ramen- 4.5/5- my husband got this one and he enjoyed it. He commented it was one of the better ramen bowls he had in a while though not the very best. Great depth of flavor and perfect aldente noodles.

Food 4/5 Service 5/5 Ambiance 5/5 Came on a Friday 5:30 pm, was able to get a table quickly for 2. Service and servers were very informative and nice. We enjoyed every dish. Very nice portion on happy hour menu too. Can't go wrong ordering anything here.

No wait on Sat 4pm. HH 3-6 pm. noodle texture is not my type, they were quite hard to chew and seemed undercooked to me. I tried the Tori Chintan Ramen (Chicken Ramen). The chicken and kombu broth was light, quite bland. It's tasted like something I would eat when I'm sick. Tokusei Ramen with pork chashu and egg, was better, overall it was just okay, nothing so great. One thing that caught my attention was the happy hour karaage : $5 for 4 pieces or $10 for 7 pieces, double the price doesn't double the portion.

We were glad that we came a little later than usual dinner time, otherwise we might have stood in line for 30-45 minutes. One staff took our order while we were still in line which I felt really appreciated. Total wait time was 10 minutes. We got tonkotsu ramen, black garlic ramen and shoyu ramen (kids size). The broth was really good, especially the black garlic one. We all got thick noodles and I'm glad we did! Service was spot on, they kept checking on us and asked if we needed more water. You can order by the server or tablet (if it's on the table), they're very accommodating to requests and substitutions. I got the Tonkatsu Ramen with a less salty broth and my friends got the regular broth. With the less salty broth, you can tell it's diluted but the flavor still remains. The regular broth keeps it creamy. Both are savory. Noodles are soft and well-cooked, love how the meat is balanced with the fatty parts, and toppings are well-proportioned to the noodles.

There's not an ingredient that is more noticeable than others so flavor was well balanced umami. The kind that you want to drink. Noodles had right amount of chewiness. One whole egg with jelly yolk included; soy flavor egg which enhanced the dish. Two pieces of pork; texture was tender but you still need to sink your teeth into it. Also didn't skimp on wood ear mushrooms. Black Garlic Ramen - definitely had that specific charred bitterness from the black garlic. Came with corn already without extra charge unlike other ramen places that charge extra for corn. Egg yolk bun - was yummy. Had the sweet savory eggy gold liquid filling. The bun was a little over steamed but still good. The buns with condensed milk item was pretty standard. Raised dough roll that were fried. Reminds me of Pillsbury Biscuits but fried instead of baked. Had a yeasty flavor. Dipping the bun in the sweet condensed milk makes this a good snack or dessert. They serve Hawaiian food, too. So, I'm definitely going back to try their Hawaiian menu. The guy at the register who also serves the food was really nice.
