December 18th 2024 came here on a Wednesday night a little after 5:00 p.m. using an Open table reservation. Turned out it didn't have to have a reservation as a place was empty. The $13 potato onion vichyssoise was a very thick and Rich soup full of flavor and very filling. Haven't had soup this tasty in years. The $39 glaze sea bass was soft and deliciously flaky textured white fish with a very sweet sauce to add flavor to an otherwise bland whitefish. The only drawback was that the portion size was about 4 oz the tops and would have left me starving for more. My $41 beef bourguignon was rich and tender beef on bone in a wine sauce and was exceptionally tasty. This place was not too far from the now vacated back a yard Jamaican chicken. Great ambience with a statue of the Eiffel Tower along with pictures at night of the structure in Paris. For those of you who can't afford to fly to Paris you can have a bit of taste of French cuisine right here at Elyse restaurant.

Wagyu picanha champignon

Overall, a solid place in spite of some culinary inflation in the menu descriptions. The mains while good, didn't blow me away but the fries... the fries... + belgian fries / $8 A tad oversalted but very addictive. Aioli was good but was actually fancy mayo rather than the real stuff which packs a garlic punch. + wagyu picanha champignon / $45 Australian grading so don't expect Japanese wagyu. It was extremely beefy and tender, cooked perfectly to the requested medium rare. Mushroom demi was good but should've gotten the chimmi. Broccolini and pomme puree were also good, but the pomme should have been way richer. You're supposed to feel guilt while eating it. It was more like fancy, smoother mashed potatoes than real pomme puree. + short rib bourguignon / $43 Likely prepared well but just tasted like beef stew to me from tasting my friend's dish. I might be too uncultured to appreciate the subtleties here.

We tried this place for the first time on a recent trip to San Jose. We weren't really sure what to expect but wanted something upscale-ish with great food but not quite, fine dining with an overly formal or stuffy atmosphere. I think this place was pretty perfect. We made a reservation but it was not necessary as there was only not one other table when we arrived. Other than that, it was empty. Everyone we interacted with here was so friendly. The hostess, our server and the bartender provided great service and helped make our evening special. The food was very good. Especially the short rib! Although not really a tart, the mushroom tartlet was tasty. It's more of a puff pastry with a delicious mushroom sauce. I also really enjoyed the steak with chimichurri. It was a little small but I wasn't super hungry so it worked out. The spring rolls were fantastic. Little flavor bombs. The cocktails here were very good and they have a pretty solid wine list. The bartender was very knowledgeable about the wines and chatted with us about them for a bit. All in all, a very enjoyable evening. Thank you!

My cousins invited me here to celebrate my engagement. The restaurant was located downtown near the VTA lightrail, which is convenient even though my fiancé drove us down and we walked to the restaurant from a nearby parking garage on 3rd street. We were greeted as soon as we got in and seated with my cousins. The waitress gave us our menus and asked if she could start us off with an appetizer or some drinks, but we asked for a few more minutes to decide. We eventually settled on garlic noodles and their Brussel sprout salad. We saw good things about their garlic noodles in previous yelp reviews, and they were excellent: good garlic flavor, some heat from the extra jalapeños they gave us on the side, and a good portion size for sharing. The Brussel sprout salad was amazing. I'd never eaten Brussel sprouts that I actually liked before, and these knocked me out of the park. They were a little crispy on the outside and had a sweet and savory glaze. My fiancé ordered a bowl of pho which he enjoyed. The portion size was incredibly massive and the quantity of meat was good. I thought the pho was just okay and pho of similar quality could be found at other establishments around SJ. I decided on the roasted lamb, medium. The vegetables on the side were roasted to perfection, he mashed potatoes were soft and fluffy, and the lamb was succulent. We finished with some Belgian dark chocolate lava cake. It's actually not sharing size, but the whole table just took a few bites anyway. It came out fresh and I took a piping hot mouthful but it was delicious. The flavor profile was excellent with the bitterness of the dark chocolate and the tartness of the raspberry coulis paired with the sweetness of the vanilla ice cream. The service was good and the waitress would come by periodically to check how we were doing and refill our waters. I wasn't a huge fan of how the paper menus were just left on our table as more and more dishes were brought out and the menus just ended up being coasters. We eventually just set them on a barrel nearby to keep our table from getting too cluttered. The decor was simple with most of their influences from France (including a huge mural of the Eiffel Tower on a wall). This place isn't my usual price point, but the service was good and the food was great. I might come back again later if I want some upscale French-Vietnamese cuisine.

Amazing food and interior. From the moment you step in past the bamboo painted windows, you feel that you are walking into luxury. There is a beautiful decor on the wall with the Eiffel tower, making you feel that you are in Paris. The service was very kind and the food came out quickly. Truffled potato and onion vichysoisse - 2/5 thought this would taste like French onion soup but was nothing like it, tasted almost like water to be honest but surprisingly the picky toddler was a fan Coq au vin - 5++/5 AMAZING!! You can really taste the wine and the chicken tears so easily in the mouth with flavor. Would totally come back here just for this dish. Wagyu picanha champignon - 5+/5 also a solid winner, meat we asked for medium well and it was the right texture without being overly chewy and the sauce paired well with the meat. Appreciated the mashed potatoes and the broccolini. Prime rib pho - 5/5 great tasting broth that is more flavorful than regular Vietnamese restaurants, with plenty of noodles. We paid overall ~$130. Parking nearby is difficult, would recommend the Wells fargo parking garage nearby that was $12 on a weekend day, compared to $20 or $30 for other nearby parking spots. We will definitely be back.

Mushroom Tartlette

Came here for a birthday dinner. It was lovely. We were greeted right away and taken to our table. We made reservations the week of. We ordered drinks, the mushroom tartlette pastry, short ribs, and black cod. Everything was delicious. I would have liked more of the sides but the main entrees were filling. And as mentioned DELICIOUS! A chocolate lava cake with vanilla ice cream was brought out with a candle - a lovely surprise. Thank you, baby! I would got a 4.5 star rating. The only thing lacking was from the atmosphere and seating. It was comfortable but it could be more cozy with plush chairs. The crowd was small and not loud which I appreciated. The staff was super friendly and helpful. They offered to take pictures a couple times.

Central location in dtsj. Could be a really nice event space to rent out for big parties. There's a full bar in the front and huge seating area in the next room. We made reservations for a party of 6 people for dinner and got seated right away even though 2 of our party wasn't there yet. Staff were nice and refilled water quickly. Food came out slow but i think it was because they were waiting for the whole party to be seated. Food was good, nothing life changing but good. Pho was kinda too sweet for my taste. The ahi tuna salad was yummy. Chicken was good but expensive for what it is. Cocktails were all creative and didnt skimp on the alcohol. Overall food is good to ok. Venue is pretty, big, and clean. Parking is hard cuz its dtsj. Cocktails were nice. I think the only downer is the price for ok food. Otherwise I would recommend it for nice sit down dinners if you need to find a place downtown.

Came here for a group dinner after a meeting in the SJ convention center. We had a resy so they sat us quickly in the wine room. Our table shared all of the appetizers as well as all of the sides. The brussel sprouts are a must have and all of the sides were delicious! We ended up ordering 2 Brussels and 2 garlic noodles. Entrees were great but very pricey for what you get. Service was super friendly but we needed to repeat requests multiple times.

Mushroom tartlette. A+!

Stopped in here for a midweek dinner. Sat right away despite not having a reservation. Place moderately crowded. Service was attentive and super friendly they went out of their way to make me feel welcome. Started with a Sicilian red which was nice and light. Bar man told me that in Italy, the further south you go, the lighter the reds. With white wine it is the opposite. Started with mushroom tartlet which was delicate and delicious. Super good I could had two! Followed with coq a vin which I think is a tough dish to cook. It was perfectly executed and I really liked it. All in all a great dinner and I have a new go to place in San Jose.

Coq Au Vin
Francesca B.

Excellent service and amazing quality food. The Brussel Sprouts were huge in portion for it being an appetizer! Delicious, crispy, and packed with acidic and savory flavor. The Shrimp Mango Ceviche was fresh and refreshing after how savory the Brussel Sprouts were. The Coq Au Vin was tender, pulled apart easily, juicy, and the mashed potatoes and vegetables complimented the dish beautifully! The Red Wine Reduction sauce was a little too potent for my liking but was still a great addition to the dish! This restaurant also has a bar separate from the dining area which I definitely want to go my next visit! The ambiance overall was beautiful and I'd definitely come here again

Went here for a late Mother's Day and we were pretty impressed! The inside is nice, modern, and spacious. The servers were friendly and attentive and the food was pretty good! We got these things: Mushroom tartlette (5/5)- my absolute favorite of the night. Flaky puff pastry with creamy umami mushroom topping Mussels (5/5)- my brother and boyfriend's favorite of the night! The fish sauce works really well in the broth Garlic noodles (3/5)- average, not too garlicky Short rib bourguignon (4/5)- good and solid Lamb chops (4/5)- cooked a perfect medium rare, pretty good Sea bass (4/5)- my favorite entree of the night but I had to dock a point off for how tiny this dish was Picahna (3/5)- basic Overall, this place was pretty good! The mussels were everyone's favorite because it was super flavorful and they give you a bunch for the price ($21). The sea bass was super delicious as well but the portion was a lot smaller than expected and definitely not worth the price. Overall, I'd totally come back for apps and try some new things

Small menu but Im still excited.
Jeremy T.

This food was amazing. All of it. The service was friendly and fast. I dont see how you can improve of any of the services. This place also has an awesome date night type of vibe. As for the food, the garlic noodle were killer with a little bit of the muscle broth drizzled on top.

Mushroom Tarlette

Great location, good ambiance, nice food! Came here over the weekend and did not know what to expect but boy was I surprised! Attentive host and servers. Here's what I got: 1) mushroom tarlette: 7/10, nice and flaky with mushroom cream sauce. Presentation was beautiful. Flavor was good, I just wish it was warm. 2) Waygu Pichana: 9/10, the waygu was wonderful! Buttery, melt in your mouth! The sauce on top is well seasoned. Broccolini standard and garlic noodles were really good just a tad bit dry. 3) Black Sesame Panna Cotta: 8/10, mellow flavor, not too sweet. 4) Pear Elder flower: 8/10, slightly sweet and very strong. Overall, I'd give this place an 8/10!

I was pleasantly surprised by the Caesar salad (FYI, it does come with a few anchovy filets on top, so keep that in mind). The veggie mushroom empanadas were another unexpected hit -- Hella cheesy, delicious, and paired with a really good dipping sauce. I liked them so much that I ended up ordering TWO orders! You only get two per order, or at least for happy hour. My personal favorites? The truffle fries and Korean fried chicken wings (Koji wings)! The wings are HELLA crunchy and absolutely bomb. If you know, you know! The Vibes & Decor: I usually come here for their Christmas setup, holiday decorations, and festive vibes, so visiting in October was a first for me. And let me tell you, the place has an updated black Halloween menu with wall decor and dark, spooky vibes plus the decorative glasses. It's giving haunted cocktail lounge in the best way possible. Seriously tho, it's dark af inside Pro tip: You'll probably need your phone flashlight to read the menu. Seating & Atmosphere: The one downside is that seating can get ROUGH after a certain time. It gets packed, loud, and finding a spot can be a whole mission. The booths are my favorite because the hardwood chairs can get a little uncomfortable, especially if you're planning to hang out for a while. If you're rolling with a smaller party, you can always ask nicely to share one of the larger tables -- it becomes communal seating depending on the size of the other groups. Final Verdict: This is one of my favorite spots for really good cocktails, right up there with 55 South! Between the creative seasonal menus, fun holiday decor, truffle fries, and those crunchy Koji wings, there's always a reason to come back. Christmas is still my favorite time to visit, but Halloween definitely brought its own spooky charm!

We were seated right at our reservation time, which I always appreciate. Parking takes a little effort, though! It's on the corner of a busy intersection, so give yourself extra time. We started with Pink Pages for me, Left on Read for The Kid, and the mango version of The Juice Is Loose for Des. All three drinks were good--no complaints from our table! I ordered One Morning in Paris, their French ham and cheddar omelet, with extra-crispy hashbrowns. The omelet was cooked beautifully, and the hashbrowns were delicious. The filling was a little heavy on the ham for my taste, and there was a seasoning I couldn't quite identify that I didn't care for, but the preparation itself was spot-on. Des and The Kid both ordered the Benedict Arnold, topped with caviar. The Kid chose hashbrowns, while Des went with the house potatoes. Both enjoyed their meals. They always have something going on and have decorations up, which makes it fun to come back throughout the year. I love that new menu items pop up, too, so there's always something new to try. The cocktails are great, and every time I've visited, the service has been solid. Food-wise, I'd describe it as a good overall experience rather than somewhere I'm necessarily coming for one specific dish. Think JOEY at Valley Fair, but in downtown San Jose -- nice aesthetics, good drinks, solid food, and a fun atmosphere for a night out. I know some people feel the prices aren't justified, but honestly, for the location, ambiance, cocktails, and overall experience, I think the price point is fair for downtown SJ. You're paying for more than just the food, and that's part of the appeal. Pressroom is definitely Instagram worthy. The bar seating is also a nice option. Lots of outdoor seating as well. It is right next to the street so cars are always driving by but the restaurant has a gate and glass up so it's not too windy. Patio umbrellas out in the summer as well. There are plenty of nearby parking options. Some ParkSJ lots offer 90 minutes of free parking, which is always a plus when you're coming downtown. When NVDIA GTC was here, the whole restaurant was booked out I believe. I was very jealous... Overall, I'd definitely recommend The Pressroom to anyone looking for a fun place to eat or grab drinks in DTSJ.

Came around 6:30 on a weekday and only had to wait a bit for an inside table! The interior is…read moredecorated really nice for Halloween. I wanted sweet wine and even though they didn't have any, the bartender was really accommodating and tried to provide backup options. The bucatini was delicious! A little too oily at the bottom but the crunchiness really added to the dish. Overall a really vibey place to chill at!

A hidden gem for the food, wine, AND company…read more Goodtime Bar is one of those spots I'm always recommending to people before they even ask for recommendations. Any place can serve wine, but it's the food, atmosphere, and community that make Goodtime Bar always a good time. The menu has creative flavor combinations that make it fun to try a little bit of everything. The serving sizes vary from smaller bites to sharables, so it works out great. My favorites I order every single time are the tom yum bucatini, steak frites, and tostadas. As for other items I've tried: oysters are flavorful and thoughtfully put together. The crispy fingerling potatoes with seaweed mayo are criminally addicting. I think the chips and dip are made fresh in house so they have that great real potato texture and flavor. Pro tip: GET THE BREAD. Perhaps a secret menu item. An order comes with a few slices of perfectly toasted buttered bread. You'll want it to dip into the tom yum bucatini sauce. TBH it can be used for all the sauces... in the prawns is great. The chef is a master of sauce. And don't skip dessert! The creme brulee is my guilty pleasure at the end of the night, with a perfectly crisp, crackly sugar crust every time I've had it. The steak frites and a bottle of wine make for a perfect girls' night. There's a nice selection of wines at different price points, and the staff are friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable. You can even taste their house wines before committing to a glass, which is a great as someone who doesn't know much about wine. The space works for different moods, too. Inside feels intimate and lively, with a fun buzz that adds to the atmosphere. Outside is lovely when you want open air while catching up with friends over food and wine. Disco ball nights inside are especially vibesy! One of my favorite things is the community here. Their Monday 6 PM run club brings together a welcoming crowd, and the post-run wine-glass offer is such a fun touch. It's a great way to meet people, and the friendly energy makes it easy to feel included even if you come solo. I've gone a couple times when time permits and everyone is sooooo friendly. All paces are welcomed and they have a few people appointed to help direct and make sure no one gets left behind. They also have options beyond wine, including a yuzu cocktail and nonalcoholic drinks like Hiyo. There's a few nearby downtown SJ lot with 90-minute free parking. TL;DR: Come for the food, stay for the wine, and leave loving this DTSJ hidden gem. Whether it's a girls' night, a necessary glass after work, or a Monday run-club meetup, Goodtime Bar is one of my favorite spots in SJ. Rightfully deserved my first Yelp food review.
