    Peking duck

Visited again, this time with a bigger group, which allowed us to try a lot more of the menu. We started with the Tri-Color Platter (Octopus, Jelly Fish & Green Seaweed Salad), which made for a great, refreshing starter. Soup Dumplings, Shrimp Rice Roll, and Steamed Sparerib, all were good as usual. Half Peking Duck was a highlight, love the perfectly thin and crispy skin. Fried E-Fu Noodle with Lobster - the lobster is fresh and huge, great flavor without being overly salty nor greasy. Black Pepper Beef Fillet with Assorted Mushroom, I like the tender beef and the mushrooms were well seasoned. Sautéed Chinese Broccoli (kailan) with Dried Flounder Flake, the flavor was good, but the kailan stems were cut too large, difficult to eat. We finished with satisfying desserts, Black Gold Salty Egg Yolk Bun was excellent with the lava effect. Mango Pomelo Sago was awesome, and the Snow Lotus Seed Peach Resin was really good and not too sweet. Everyone was full and happy.

This is our designated place for large-group gatherings. We've befriended the owner and some of the staff, so service was top notch. In general, their dim sum was better than dinner, but tonight's dishes are worth mentioning. The good: 1. steamed lobster with rice vermicelli: good flavor and fresh lobster. All lobster pieces were cut open, making it easy to eat. 2. beef steak with broccoli: the beef was so soft! The 0.5cm thickness makes it perfect size to bite down. 3. BBQ plate: loads of goodies, with my favorite cha siu, jelly fish, and pork belly cubes. 4. Soup with morel and chicken. Loads of morels! Could use a bit more salt but it's not that big a deal. The ones that could be improved: 1. small silver fish fried with egg yolk coating: a bit chewy, but good flavor. 2. sea cucumber stuffed with shrimp paste: indeed a hard to make dish at home, so we were all excited. But the sea cucumber was not well flavored; instead, it tasted quite fishy and earthy. Too bad this expensive dish was only half consumed. The bean sprouts at the bottom were a lot more desirable. 3. salt pepper chicken: it was seasoned with salt and pepper powder, but not cooked with salt at the pan, so the chicken lacks the heat and dryness from salt. At the night, a wedding reception was in place, but we were able to seat at the next room and enjoyed our noisy and loud cheers.

We decided to try this dm sum place in Sunnyvale, located just off of 101 and Lawrence Expressway. It seems to be a well-liked place, as the tables were all filled within the first hour of opening. First of all, I agree with the previous reviews here stating that it is a hit or miss. We ordered a variety of items on our visit. Some were really tasty, others were merely "meh." The hits were Peking Duck (flavorful and tender meat) - I appreciate the addition of sliced cucumber sticks to the regular thin-sliced onions and sauce; the cucumbers added a delightful change of texture), the Salt & Pepper Sole w/ Black Bean sauce (large, flavorful and tender pieces of fish, onions that were cooked slightly longer to bring out their inherent sweetness), and the steamed broccoli (again, slightly longer cooking to bring out the flavor). What surprisingly did not work was the dim sum, as well as the chrysanthemum tea and rice. And the one thing that ruined what probably would have been some very tasty food was the strong taste of chlorine! This informs me that the water they use to steam and cook is water from the tap that is not filtered. I took one iOS of the chrysanthemum tea, relishing the what I thought was the strong chrysanthemum flavor, but after a few seconds it was apparent that the water was chlorinated. (I do not recommend ordering any tea or water here.) The steamed dim sum had the chlorinated smell and taste, as well as the rice, too! It is too bad, though, that the main flavor throughout was chlorine. I really lost my appetite for the rest of the meal. Regarding the order in which they bring out the food, they start from the top and proceed down the order list. I ordered rice, but it was down towards the bottom of the list, and it was the very last thing to arrive - after having eaten everything else we ordered above it! What a waste of rice! (Well, it smelled like chlorine, too, . . .). Before the wait person takes down your order, I highly suggest ordering the items you would like first, followed by everything else. If Sufu Wong Kitchen decides to invest in a quality water filtration system as other fine restaurants have (quite an expense, I will add), I am sure that the food will be so much more tasty and enjoyable (maybe even garnering another star or two . . .)

Had high expectations coming here but was a bit disappointed. Decent dim sum but nothing special. The chicken feet had great color and texture but the flavor was a bit bland. The siu mai didn't seem fresh as it was a little sour and the texture was hard (not scrumptious), ties went for both the pork and the shrimp inside. The lava bun did not 流, was more like a custard texture rather than melty and runny. The bbq pork puff pastry wasn't very flaky at all. The bean cured with pumpkin dish was rather interesting from the sounds of it so we got it, but it was super bland overall. The shrimp rice noodle was ok: scrumptious shrimp but the rice noodle itself was not as thin and smooth as it could be. My favorite dish was the stuffed eggplant of everything we ordered.

Bookmarked on my wish list for awhile, but this weekend was the opportunity to dine in. Our mom wanted dim sum to celebrate Mother's Day, so our family came 1 day early. We knew to go early, since they don't take reservations and we often see lines outside. We arrived at 10:30am and the front manager said if we can be done my 12:30, that they had a table for us. Party of 12, since we got there early, we agreed. The side room had the biggest round table for us. They ask you what kind of tea you want, we like chrysanthemum tea. You order the items on the paper menu and it comes to your table. So we got going on the orders and TBH, we must be hungry, because we did a lot of orders (we had plenty of left overs). Tried some favorites and a few new items that we thought were unique to their restaurant. My dad has to order crispy noodle and chow fun, and we also ordered chicken fried rice. The service was prompt and attentive, with enough servers to take care of the side room. Since it was the "sun room", the sun was shining through the windows and it was bright. Review from my parents: it was just meh, they prefer the other place near our house. I think the food is good, but probably won't come back again with a big group of us, since they don't have many big round tables. And personally, I prefer the whole experience of the ladies coming around with their carts. Perhaps their dinner menu is also worth trying. Bonus for us is that we can literally walk to this restaurant. Parking could be an issue if you come later.

Decided to try out a new dim sum spot from the normal go-to. Two of us ordered: tea $2/pp fried taro dumpling $7.60, came pretty late mango pomelo sago $7.60, needed more sago siu mai $7.60 chicken feet $7.60 chinese tender green $17.60 deep fried pumpkin with salty egg yolk $12.60 Definitely on the pricier end. $18 for greens is a bit criminal. Pumpkin was a bit tasteless. No salted egg yolk flavor. Definitely nicer ambiance inside than other places. Plus that there's TVs so they may be playing sports when timing lines up! Parking lot onsite.

This is my go-to spot for friend gatherings for dim sum, mainly because my best friend love their black sesame egg custard buns. Ironically, I'm not a fan of them myself--they're a bit too eggy for my taste. When it comes to dim sum quality and service, I honestly prefer Koi Palace. The food quality there is more consistent, and the service is much more phenomenal. The only things this place really has over Koi Palace are the lower prices and those black sesame custard buns my friend loves! I've been here at least a dozen times, and the food can be hit or miss. Sometimes dishes come out cold, like they've been sitting out for a while instead of being served fresh and hot. That said, there are a few items we always order that are consistently good when brought out fresh like salted crispy pork chops, siu mai, shrimp rolls, and fried calamari. Be prepared for a wait on weekends since it gets crowded. If you're coming with a large group, it's best to arrive before noon. The restaurant is located next to a hotel, and finding the restroom can be confusing since it's inside the hotel. Service is also pretty minimal--they seem understaffed, and I almost always have to flag someone down just to get basics like soy sauce, chili, and water. I don't understand why they don't just have the sauce on the table for guest to dip, but I get that they're saving $ on controlling the cost down. On my most recent visit, the experience really went downhill. Our table had food but no soy sauce, chilli nor water, and when I flagged a waiter multiple times, he got visibly annoyed and irritated. It was frustrating--we shouldn't have to chase someone down repeatedly for basic condiments. Being met with attitude for that honestly left a bad impression. That experience alone makes me reconsider coming back. Good food at a good price is one thing, but poor service--especially to that extent--can really ruin the overall experience.

It's been a few years since my review and everything is as good as I remember with great service and delicious Cantonese food. The restaurant is connected to a hotel and it is large, clean and spacious. We were here for a banquet in a private room and I enjoyed all the dishes. My favorites were the Peking Duck, sautéed geoduck and steamed fish. So good!

Still good dim sum but prices are definitely higher. Menu is getting longer but haven't tried the new items. I do like their har gow and sui mai and sticky rice with lotus leaf. Pan fried noodles with seafood is also delicious add on to the dim sum. Don't forget to ask for the yellow mustard. If you like spicy this is spicy. Small amount goes a long way.

This was my first visit to Sifu Wong and actually my first Dim Sum experience. I went with friends who have enjoyed Dim Sum in the past to guide me a bit. I got there within an hour of opening on Saturday morning and people were streaming in. I got on the wait-list and it moved pretty steadily. Once my companions arrived, we were seated immediately and offered tea. We said yes and a pot was dropped off but we weren't ever given a name or a choice to try something else. I think we got Chrysanthemum tea for the first pot but I can't swear to it. The second pot tasted different; I had to flag someone down to ask and learned it was Jasmine tea. The staff move around so fast that it's hard to get anyone's attention without concerted effort! Our first dish was BBQ pork puff pastry and it was delicious. Very flaky and tender. The server offered to cut them in half for us, which we consented to and made them easier to share. I was so hungry I dove in before taking a picture, so the picture here is after a few pieces were taken. The next dish was Har Gaw shrimp dumplings. Great flavor though they did fall apart a bit too easily. The Pan-Fried Chive Dumplings arrived next and were just perfect. The right amount of crisp and a delicious interior. Next came my favorite dish of them all, the Black and Gold Salty Egg Yolk Bun. I could have had a few more dishes of just these and been happy with the meal. They arrived piping hot and beautiful. I'm still not clear on just what is inside but I loved it. Next came the Shrimp Rice Rolls, which were slippery devils but tasty! The Fried Taro Cakes arrived next. I didn't know what to expect and the first bite or two was underwhelming, but by the time I finished mine I'd come to quite like the flavor, though it definitely needed sauce and chili oil. The last thing to arrive was my least favorite dish, spare ribs. They were pale and kind of unappealing-looking. The pork flavor was good, though I almost cracked a tooth on an undersized sliver of bone that hid in a piece. I was going to order another round of the Black and Gold buns to end on a high note but didn't have the chance, as the bill was plunked down on the table without a word, or the opportunity to order additional dishes. So we paid and left, and I was thinking of those buns the whole rest of the day!

    Asahi beer
    Amy N.

Came here for my cousin's birthday, but this was actually my second time here. The first time I came here was during the first year they opened and during brunch for dim sum. We ordered asahi beer, fried rice, sea bass, chicken feet, salt & petter prawns, hot & sour soup, and roasted pork belly. The asahi beer we ordered was fine, but we felt like we got the end of the draft keg or something because it was pretty bitter. I didn't mind the taste because I usually drink Heineken, but my boyfriend couldn't finish his beer by end of the meal. The first items to come out was the hot & sour soup, roasted pork belly and the chicken feet. I loved the hot & sour soup, but all the guys said it was way too sour than usual for them. The roasted pork belly wasn't as tender or fatty compared to other places we usually eat from. I do like that at least it came with hoisin sauce because although the pieces are in chunks, it could get overwhelming to consume. The chicken feet definitely had the black bean flavor, but could've been more flavorful. For some reason, it looked like the chicken feet is cut in half here when eating it. The salt & pepper prawns were decent. We wished that it came with sauce because it became too dry to eat overtime. The egg fried rice was surprisingly pretty good and a great addition to the sea bass we ordered. They were probably my favorite dishes along with the hot & sour soup. Glad I got to try this restaurant again years later. I feel like there are so many dim sum and Chinese restaurants in the Bay Area, so it all comes down to democracy preferences and votes when eating out.

Food: dim sum and lunch dishes were made when ordered so it came out warm. They were not sitting in a cart for a long time like some other places. Food were fresh and no msg! Service: a bit understaffed and slow. The restaurant were 80% full but there were only 3 wait staff managing all.

My husband I pass by this place all the time. It took us 3 years to finally try it. Parking lot was packed. Luckily, we only had to drive around once to find parking. We now know we can join the waitlist on Yelp, so noting that for next time. We got dim sum. It is pricy but it's the quality. Everything was really good. Our favorite dim sum in order: 1. Fried eggplant with pepper and garlic tofu 2. Truffle Scallop Dumpling 3. BBQ Pork Puff Pastry 4. Fried Taro Dumpling 5. Sichuan chili oil chicken 6. Fried Salty Dumpling 7. Siu Mai 8. Spare Ribs They charged $2 per person for tea. My husband read somewhere if you pay cash there is a discount. It is inaccurate. I paid cash and I didn't get a discount. It was really busy inside but the wait food wasn't that long. It didn't seem too loud either.

While we were waiting for our table, we saw 2-3 couples get turned away. The restaurant is small, but the interior is well-decorated. It pays homage to HK posters, music, and culture. They offer two complimentary small bites of smashed cucumber and peanuts. - XO Escargot: a must order, the dish only comes with 6 pieces but it's so worth it. The sauce is garlicky, buttery, and each bite with the milk bread is so good. The bread also has a crispy outer layer while the inside is super soft. - Eggplant: at first, we thought the dish was good, but the pieces on the bottom that soaks up all the sauce makes the eggplant full of umami flavor. This paired so good with rice. - Mapo Tofu Spaghetti: just as you imagine, but very yummy. I wish there was more of a numbing spice personally! - Black Pepper Steak: The steak was cooked perfectly to medium rare and the sauce was very yummy. This dish did not blow me away like some of the others but was still good nonetheless. I really wished we could have try the Singapore Chili Crab, but that would have been too much food. The nice servers can help stir the rice if you are inexperienced like me. And if you aren't a fan of the crunchy rice, dig in asap! I would recommend adding soy sauce because the rice is bland. I ordered the Chicken with Mushroom and Beef clay pots. Very fresh and piping hot comfort food. Will have to come back to try more.

*********************3.5 stars*******************…read more Today we stopped by for my friend's birthday lunch. Of all places, I don't know why she picked Fong Kee Clay Pot. Several months ago, I visited Fong Kee Clay Pot with a different friend who gave it rave reviews. The food isn't gross, but it's something I can make myself. Cook some meat and rice, and throw it in a clay pot. Although I didn't want to come here, the rest of my friends were excited to try this place. I kept my mouth shut and didn't express my opinion. Maybe I should have spoken up because everyone was underwhelmed by what we ordered. My food was bland and needed more flavor, but I wasn't sure what to add to make it more flavorful. What I shared with my husband: Preserved egg and chicken porridge with a Chinese donut Chinese sausage w/ salted fish I was disappointed by the amount of salted fish in my bowl. I found a few sheer pieces of basically nonexistent fish in my fish. It takes less than two dollars to make this dish, so I have no idea why a bowl of rice costs $17. I love preserved egg and chicken porridge, but this one lacked sodium and preserved duck egg flavor. My guess is that they made plain porridge and dumped chicken and preserved egg into it instead of cooking it on a slow simmer. My friend had to send her dish back because she found a hair in her food. Cons: Bland dishes Expensive dishes for what you actually get Pros: Prompt and good service for a party of 7. The next time a friend suggests Clay Pot, I will suggest a better alternative and spare us disappointment.

Chicken feet came out first, this is my mom's go-to, however, I actually quite enjoyed this. Seasoned nicely, and the texture was JUST right, not too soft nor chewy, would order again Next was the Har gow and shrimp rice rolls. These 2 are my usuals and I thoroughly enjoyed both. The dough of both dishes were steamed nicely and the portion of the rice rolls were very impressive (6 shrimps per portion). Now the fried shrimp beancurd rolls were surprisingly extremely underrated. They were crispy on the outside yet the shrimp filling was bountiful and delicious, 100% worth ordering. XLB were forgettable. Unfortunately we did also order the pork spare ribs in black bean sauce and siu mai but they never arrived so we ended up canceling them.

We ordered a special set menu that included peking duck, special shrimp egg rolls, wagyu shaking beef, and more! The food definitely feels clean and unique vs some other places. As for service - we were a little disappointed that gratuity was included but we didn't get much actual service. In either case - if you're looking for solid chinese food...would still recommend this place. Food was 5/5, Service was 2/5.

My second time here for lunch. There's no wait on a weekday last time. 3 of us came here on…read moreSaturday around noon, and had to wait for about 20 minutes for a table, which wasn't bad at all. Even though their parking lot had a lot of cars, it's so big that there're still plenty of spaces. Their inside was huge as well. Because of the high ceiling, it didn't feel too crowded, even though it was packed. They had a lot of servers, too, though getting the attention of one took a while. Our server highly recommended their sea bass 2 ways (congee and chow fun) on their daily special menu. We would have ordered that if they still had fish at ~2lb, but they only had fish at ~3lb, which would be too big for us, as we would like to order some dim sum as well. So, we just ordered from their dim sum menu. The 2 different house teas we ordered came out pretty quickly, but it took a while for the food to come. The Sauteed Turnip Cake in XO Sauce was the dish I liked the most. It could still use more XO sauce, though. Pork & Crab Roe Siu Mai was gigantic; taste was normal. I wished they had chili sauce at the table. We're too busy catching up and didn't bother to flag down someone to get some. The Fried Bean Curd Skin Roll w/ Shrimp was not bad, just a bit oily. The Fried Chinese Donut Wrapped in Rice Noodle w/ Dried Shrimp was on point; it came with a peanut sauce on the side. The Chicken Feet w/ Black Bean Sauce were well cooked and off the bones. The Salted Egg Yolk Lava Black Bun wasn't too sweet; the inside was more runny than we expected. We're already stuffed after having 6 dim sum dishes. Overall, dim sum was solid, but on the more expensive side. While their service was typical for a Chinese restaurant in the Bay Area, they did apply a 16% service charge to the bill automatically, which was stated on their menu.

Went to HL Peninsula, and it was aggressively packed! We came on a Sunday morning and waited over…read morean hour and a half for a party of five, so come prepared. In my opinion, their system for waiting for tables is a bit chaotic. They do not ask for your phone number; instead, they print out a receipt with a number and call it out when your table is ready. There is a monitor inside the restaurant that you can watch, but since it's so crowded and the way the system is displayed on the screen, it's kind of hard to tell what is going on or what your status is. Service-wise, it's exactly what you would expect from any Chinese restaurant serving dim sum, if you know what I mean. :) Inside, the restaurant is very spacious and large, and I am assuming the reason for the long wait is that it's one of only two places to get dim sum in Milpitas (the other being Mayflower in the other highly packed plaza nearby). They do not serve dim sum with the traditional cart system where dishes are rolled around the dining room. Instead, you order from a menu and mark down how many quantities you want of each item. My family got a variety of dishes, but I'll call out some notable ones: * Their shu mai was juicy and packed with meat, probably one of the best shu mai I've had in the South Bay. * Their har gow skin broke apart really easily, which bummed me out, but it was generously stuffed with shrimp. * My favorite dish was their purple rice rolls. It was basically a Chinese donut stuffed with shrimp and wrapped in a purple glutinous rice roll. * The chicken feet were very balanced and not too sweet. * The truffle scallop dumpling had a rich mushroom flavor, and the scallop added a nice flavor profile. * The BBQ pork was coated well with the char siu sauce. It was tender and bold in flavor. Overall, my experience here was great, but I do not think it warranted more than a 30-minute wait. The food also came out a bit slowly in my opinion, but that was probably due to the high volume of people.
