Overall a good place to get dim sum in the area. The price is about right for the area. Portions can be generous for some dishes. One of the dumplings were huge! We came on a weekday to try and avoid the weekend wait times. There was no wait on a Monday at lunch and we were seated immediately. Ordering is easy, you mark what you want off a checklist. No carts here. The biggest con was that our server was literally standing at our table staring at us the whole time we were trying to figure out what to order. And a few more times through out our meal while we were eating. It made us feel really rushed and it was pretty awkward. The dim sum isnt the best I've ever had but decent for the area and price. Maybe we'll come back on a weekend when they're a little more busy to avoid the awkward stare down moments.

I'm honestly not sure why New Port is rated less than 4 stars, but the food is fantastic. Coming from Boston where Dim Sum shops are abundant, I would actually rank New Port up there. The prices are slightly on the higher end, but I like that their bean curd pork rolls (腐皮卷) had veggies in them. Authentic? Not sure, but delicious? Absolutely. My go to dishes here would be the pan fried chive dumpling, the bean curd pork rolls, and the fried shrimp balls (but nothing I had here so far was a miss... except the spareribs, but that's because I wasn't expecting kabocha in the dish). All in all, a great place to go to (and there's always a line on the weekends so head early!)

I remember coming to this place back in 1998 - it has been around for a long time! They have upgraded their interior decor to be more upscale. The servers are nice and polite - be careful when they serve you, some stuff could drop on your clothes. I had my Chinese co workers with me, so they did the ordering for celebrating the Lunar New Year - year of the horse. The food is good - but not stellar. Good to enjoy this place in a big group, so you can try various things. Besides dim sum, they also have a menu for à la carte items.

The tables and chairs have had a nice refresh since our last visit. When my daughter comes to visit, I generally bring her here as I did in the past when she was younger. There is a charge now for the green tea, but we get Jasmine. I don't recall our exact order, but I will post the pictures. Barbecue pork buns, of course. Some delicious shrimp dumplings. Oddly, we did not get the crab claws on this visit. Next time! PS: For those who participate in the AA dining or other frequent flier dining program, you will receive some points based on your bill.

New Port restaurant serves Dim Sum and Cantonese cuisine. It's located on Wolfe Rd near the corner of Homestead in Sunnyvale. We went for a dim sum lunch during the week so the restaurant was not busy. You order off a menu check list . The staff was sparse and it took a long time for the dim sum dishes to come out. The ambiance was quiet and fine for our party since we met some elderly relatives. The dim sum was adequate and not amazing. Plenty of parking in the lot since it was slow.

According to my mom, I've been here before. I'm 99% sure it was my first visit. Came here the Sunday before New Years and it was packed, lively and we had a very minimal wait since we arrived before 11AM. Parking: Small parking lot attached, we had 2 cars and found parking right away. Location: Nicely located around surrounding plazas across the streets for shopping, groceries etc. Inside was clean, well lit and nicely decorated. Service: Fast, attentive and honest Food: Made to order and fresh. You can order via marking the order sheet, but they also have staff walking out specialty items. I really liked their steamed pork ribs with ho-fun. They never brought out the chicken feet we ordered - it was busy and they probably ran out so it never made it to our tab. LASTLY on food, they had a unique "Pineapple bun / eggtart-like mochi ball with sesame-filling" that I've never seen before so I HAD to order it. It's like someone's parent found out their kid liked pineapple bun, egg tarts, mochi, and sesame and decided to make a Picasso pastry, haha. A lady staff went over our marked order paper and told me that dish would take at least 30 minutes to prepare and had me confirm that I would not cancel my order due to long wait times. We just sat down and had plenty time, so it was perfect for us. Would come again and try their seafood next time as the Staff mentioned it was their house specialty.

No wait on a weekday at noon on Thanksgiving week. Order from a paper menu. Everything except the green onion pancake was good. Black sesame mochi pastry was good. Black sesame wrapped in soft mochi and then in pastry dough. Also I like shrimp balls wrapped with sticky rice but most places don't have it. We ordered xo noodle but after an hour and finishes all our other dishes, it never came so we canceled it. They have room for large parties. Parking lot is not very big, we got lucky someone was leaving when we pulled in. Prices were ok. Just don't order off the dim sum menu. The salt and pepper tofu was $22. It was a pretty big plate and it was good.

We were craving some dim sum so decided to drive down to Cupertino to this restaurant . This is NOT a cart type dim sum where they push around and you can pick what you see. You order from a menu and let Yelp guide you Arrived around 130 on a Sunday afternoon, was approximately a 15-20 minute wait. If I had to choose, salty savory over sweet is my preference. We enjoyed the trip as well as bean curd dishes, along with Chinese broccoli for our vegetable dish. You can't really go to dim sum without having some siu Mai or XIAO LONG BAO (aka XLB) so we did After eating, one person had a tummy ache. Decent dim sum that is popular and tasty, but the hygiene of the place leaves me wondering.

Came here for dim sum on a weekend. It was pretty packed. Was given a small paper with a number to wait and they called the next number when a table was ready. They do not have carts and you mark what you want on the paper menu they give. We were asked what tea we wanted like 5 different times. But they only gave it once we submitted the paper as there is a section for tea as well. Got the siu mai, chicken feet, tripe, cha siu chern fun, and the crispy shrimp balls. The food is pretty standard dim sum. The meat portions and ratios are generous. Sauce for the crispy shrimp rolls tasty pretty watered down. We were also brought items we didn't order 2 times. So make sure to pay attention. Would definitely come back for dim sum.

After Christmas Dim Sum lunch with family. The restaurant was very busy so we were pleasantly surprised to be seated so quickly. We were able to order some dim sum as well as main dishes off the menu. Instead of the usual carts coming by the food came straight from the kitchen and was hot and fresh. Everyone was very accommodating, welcoming and the food was delicious. The entire crew made sure our water and tea was full at all times, and consistently checked on us to see if we needed anything. This was an exceptional experience and we will be back with additional friends and family.

I've been curious to try this place and when my gf was in town we had to stop by. It was 4 of us and we were seated right away. My gf ordered everything for us and gave me the menu to add whatever I wanted. Since it was my first time trying a lot of this I just went with her recommendations. Our food came out shortly and everything was delicious. My favorite was the tripe and the baked pork bun. I could have some of those buns without the filling any day. I saw the pineapple buns being brought out and will need to try them next time. I enjoyed my meal and liked that with 4 people we each could enjoy a piece of everything. Parking was a bit hectic but found a spot right away. Very family style setting. Round tables everywhere.

Nice and spacious and bright with simple decor Chinese restaurant. We went here for some DimSum with family. We got lucky that we found a parking right in the busy parking lot. Nice service and good foods. Very busy during weekend so plan accordingly. Felt abit rush but overall had a great time here.

Probably my favorite dim sum in South Bay! Prices are standard, dim sum is just expensive nowadays. I went on a Sunday for lunch and they were very busy.

Ask the Community - New Port Restaurant

As of this writing (12/30/24) do they serve dim sum on carts? If so, is it for lunch or dinner or both? Thx

You get a menu with the dim sum offerings and you write on it what you want. Everything is made fresh and it's mainly for lunch.

Do they still offer outdoor seating today? Nov 30, 2023

Last time we were there, there was no outside seating.

    So no more cart service?

There's rarely any carts going around. You order the specific items you want and they bring them out to you.

    Do they have parking lot?

Yes! But it can get busy!!

    Do they have vegan options?

I don't think so - even vegetable dishes might have fish sauce for flavoring

Does the outdoor seating have outdoor heaters?

They no longer have outdoor seatings anymore

Is this restaurant doing indoor and outdoor dining?

As of April 16, 2021, they are doing both indoor and outdoor dining.

    Do you services outside?

    Yes

Are they open during shelter in place?

No, we will open after the shelter in place

    Is dimsum available at night?

No, unfortunately dim sum is only available during lunchtime.

Do they open on July 4th?

They open everyday. Holidays are super crowded.

Is there usually a long wait for lunch on the weekends?

My daughter and I usually go there on Sundays between 11AM and 12:30PM and we usually get sat right away. As we're leaving there's usually a long wait. Hope that helps.

Do they do dim sum only on weekends ? Or is it every day during lunch hours?

They serve dim sum during lunch every day as far as I am aware.

Are they open for Dim Sum on Christmas Day?

    Yes

What's the dessert that you gave at the end of the meal that was like a white soup that has like red bean & tapioca?

It is likely a variation of this classification of desserts: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tong_sui

Do they serve dim sum during dinner time?

You *may* be able to order a few items at dinner but in general dim sum is available only at lunch.

We knew to go early, since they don't take reservations and we often see lines outside. We arrived at 10:30am and the front manager said if we can be done my 12:30, that they had a table for us. Party of 12, since we got there early, we agreed. The side room had the biggest round table for us. They ask you what kind of tea you want, we like chrysanthemum tea. You order the items on the paper menu and it comes to your table. So we got going on the orders and TBH, we must be hungry, because we did a lot of orders (we had plenty of left overs). Tried some favorites and a few new items that we thought were unique to their restaurant. My dad has to order crispy noodle and chow fun, and we also ordered chicken fried rice. The service was prompt and attentive, with enough servers to take care of the side room. Since it was the "sun room", the sun was shining through the windows and it was bright. Review from my parents: it was just meh, they prefer the other place near our house. I think the food is good, but probably won't come back again with a big group of us, since they don't have many big round tables. And personally, I prefer the whole experience of the ladies coming around with their carts. Perhaps their dinner menu is also worth trying. Bonus for us is that we can literally walk to this restaurant. Parking could be an issue if you come later.

Ironically, I'm not a fan of them myself--they're a bit too eggy for my taste. When it comes to dim sum quality and service, I honestly prefer Koi Palace. The food quality there is more consistent, and the service is much more phenomenal. The only things this place really has over Koi Palace are the lower prices and those black sesame custard buns my friend loves! I've been here at least a dozen times, and the food can be hit or miss. Sometimes dishes come out cold, like they've been sitting out for a while instead of being served fresh and hot. That said, there are a few items we always order that are consistently good when brought out fresh like salted crispy pork chops, siu mai, shrimp rolls, and fried calamari. Be prepared for a wait on weekends since it gets crowded. If you're coming with a large group, it's best to arrive before noon. The restaurant is located next to a hotel, and finding the restroom can be confusing since it's inside the hotel. Service is also pretty minimal--they seem understaffed, and I almost always have to flag someone down just to get basics like soy sauce, chili, and water. I don't understand why they don't just have the sauce on the table for guest to dip, but I get that they're saving $ on controlling the cost down. On my most recent visit, the experience really went downhill. Our table had food but no soy sauce, chilli nor water, and when I flagged a waiter multiple times, he got visibly annoyed and irritated. It was frustrating--we shouldn't have to chase someone down repeatedly for basic condiments. Being met with attitude for that honestly left a bad impression. That experience alone makes me reconsider coming back. Good food at a good price is one thing, but poor service--especially to that extent--can really ruin the overall experience.

So we ordered 4 dim sum items off the menu. No one told us how long it would take to get these items. We ordered traditional dim sum items and at most dim sum places it would just take a few minutes. But after 20 minutes, nothing had arrived. We asked one of the workers and he angrily told us it takes a long time to prepare them. After 5 minutes one item showed up. But after waiting 20 minutes we decided to leave. As we were paying the bill, another item showed up so we just took it home. The decor and ambiance is nice - very spacious and elegant. You can join the waitlist from Yelp - always a plus. Highlights: the har gow were plump with large pieces of shrimp and minimal filler. The dumpling skin was on the thicker side (I don't mind it but my wife likes thinner skins.) Maybe that was needed because of how big these were - really packed with shrimp. The mango pudding was delicious and reminded us of childhood, and the shrimp noodle roll was great. Lowlight: I was less happy with the xiaolongbao - there are so many good options for these in the South Bay that this meager interpretation was frankly bordering on blasphemy. I would not order those again. The steamed char siu bao were far better but still could've used more pork in the filling and were slightly soggy and over steamed. We also had the beef chow fun which was excellent with smoky wok hei flavor. Overall a good place for dim sum but avoid the xiaolongbao.

I like that they still do carts and you get to experience the steam that tells you it's fresh. The interior design is beautiful, refined elegances, with marble flooring, chandeliers above, bright lighting, big screens where appropriate, numerous private rooms and details even in the bathrooms. It is a banqueting venue with ample space for weddings and large events. Our family particularly love their large round tables that can accommodate up to 12, as sometimes it's hard to eat all together at 1 table. When we were there for Chinese New Year celebration, they had a special menu with different selections to choose from. There was also a large party going on, where they were able to partition off the main space for privacy. Also there was a Tesla test driving promotion out front. Definitely good business to partner with other services like that, knowing their clientele. Overall, highly recommend this beautiful restaurant. Of course, it is on the high end of dining experiences, but for special occasions, I think it's worth it.

Everything has great flavor but nothing life-changing. Nonetheless, I would come back to try other dishes! Pan seared black pepper angus beef bao 7.5/10 Loved the flavor and the bao was super soft. Was a little disappointed because I was expecting the bao to have more crunch since it mentioned being pan seared :/ 5 flavor soup dumplings/xlb 8/10 Each respective flavor of each really shines. If you're a truffle lover, you'll love the truffle dumpling! Shanghai soup dumplings 8.5/10 Lobster har gow 7.5/10 Very similar to normal shrimp har gow. I prefer regular shrimp though. The dough on the outside was way too soft and fell off the filling.. Siu mai 9/10 classic and yummy!

The grey-haired manager had benevolent demeanor, which you don't see often in a Cantonese restaurant. He personally assisted serving our clay pots, making our dining experience a bit nicer and personal. He was respectful. Staff in general were friendly and attentive. Beware the mandatory 18% tips (marked as service charge) they charge without contest disregard of party size. Read your receipt carefully. After they present your receipt, there's a line there asking for extra tip, as if 18% isn't enough? I was going to tip them well anyway so the forcing part was off-putting and sneaky. It inevitably left a bad taste. Regarding the legality of mandatory gratuity, they did disclose 18% service charge on menu. They also taxed on gratuity. They probably have a good lawyer telling them how to make mandatory gratuity legal. That is to use phrase "service charge" and print it on menu, which I didn't notice until much later. (From the picture I took.) A small group like us (party of three) should not be subject to mandatory gratuity. No one likes to be forced to tip. Tipping should be at free will. Needless to say, we won't be back.
