After coming here several times, I'd say they will not improve and I highly recommend staying away from JP Bistro. This used to be our childhood go to place after studying for finals or a at Cupertino Library or a quick meal with your family & friends. Hanlin was the old spot and they were amazing. The price was right, the food was tasty, and the portions were great. However, when these guys took over, everything went down the drain. First of all, the service is nonexistent now, especially if you're picking up to-go orders. They expect you to look for your own orders. If you can't find your order, they'll give you a cold look like its your fault they put all the takeout orders on one shelf and they're all clumped together (Or maybe the waitresses don't get tips from take out orders?) The food is horrible now. We usually order the pork cutlet bento, when Hanlin was operating. The portions were just right and the meal was very tasty. After JP took over, the portions are small and they increased the price too. What's even worse is that the pork cutlets are now DUMPED in oil. disgusting! I've given them several chances and this last one really pushed the line. I HIGHLY recommend you think twice before dining here. Wanted to try a new bento place in South Bay Area, saw some good reviews on Yelp and decided to give it a try. This place is what you'd expect from a typical Taiwanese bento place. Bento, snacks and bobas. The sliced pork garlic rice was pretty decent and tasty, the side dishes were fine as well, pretty standard and nothing particularly special, but they complemented the meal well enough. The food was good but some dishes felt a little bland or not very rich in flavor. The minced pork rice was reallly good and the sausage was delicious. I also liked the cabbage with bacon, it didnt taste very heavy even though it had bacon. I think the beef noodle soup could have been richer and the meat chunks were a bit dry and hard. This is a good location to grab a meal then walk around the area! There's plentiful of parking in the lot as well or street parking near the park/library. Great for family friendly meals and outings. I tried the Beef Noodle Soup and Oyster Omelette with a side of rice. The Beef Noodle Soup broth was pretty light (flavor) and the beef was tender. Across from the Cupertino library and located in a housing complex. We came here once in the beginning of covid and finally 5 years later returned. I actually come here to get drinks if I am thirsty taking my child to the library. We got hot pot, braised egg, fried pork chop, veggies, and honey green tea. I really hate leaving bad reviews. This is a cute café, serving a genre of Taiwanese food that I generally enjoy. Some of the problems were induced by me, but there was no solution by the restaurant. First off the food. After waiting for 40 minutes when we arrive just after opening and the restaurant less than half full, we finally got our food. The sides and rice would've been a three or four out of five because they were standard but not stand out. However, both of the main entrées were not only flavorless, but very, very small portions. The beef was slightly salty, and there were more onions, than actual beef. The shrimp tasted unsalted and had none of the savviness this dish should have. I'd also hoped that the Boba milk tea would be good, but it was extremely weak and tasted more like non-dairy creamer than tea. The bubble was cooked decently and there weren't any hard pieces so that was a plus, but the drink was completely lacking in any sort of flavor. Not factoring into the overall rating was that I ordered on the kiosk, not realizing it was only four to go orders. That was my bad because I failed to see the large sign directly above it clearly presented in the photo that said it was for takeout orders only. However, the sales on drinks with an entrée was only good for dining in and the shop refused to do anything about that. And I didn't factor that into my rating, but it made me less likely to return. There's so much good Taiwanese food in the area that is either cheaper or has more flavor or both. I was sad that this place was not good. read more

HOLY CRAP. I've been going around the Bay trying Taiwanese spots, and this probably takes the one of the top, if not THE TOP, spots for me. Fried pork chops were delicious and had that classic popcorn chicken breading, and the Chinese wine chicken clay pot was basically perfect too. Chicken wasn't gamey at all, and the sauce balanced extremely well with the vegetables in the clay pot. The vegetable side dishes were also delicious (per my boyfriend, "Yeah this place is good, even the veggies are good" lol). We also got some of their house hot sauce that you find near the utensils by the cash register, and it was tangy, so it helped offset some greasiness. I came across a new Taiwanese restaurant that a fellow Yelper had reviewed, so I bookmarked it. Finally, I had the chance to visit with my partner for dinner on a Saturday evening. The restaurant is quite spacious, offering both indoor and outdoor seating at the front. Since the weather was beautiful, we decided to sit outside. Upon entering, the staff advised us to choose an open table. They use a QR code menu system, allowing you to start ordering when you're ready. To check out, you need to go to the register. The service was prompt, and the staff were friendly. Once we were seated, they brought us water and utensils. We also appreciated that the staff explained how to place our orders. FOOD * Cucumber salad * Deep fried radish cake * Fried Chop Bento * Braised Pork Rice Bowl + egg * Boba MT * Jade GMT All the food was delicious! The cucumber salad was refreshing and a perfect way to start our meal. The fried radish cake was also good, with a crispy exterior and a soft interior. I ordered on Fantuan for pickup and it was ready in about 30 minutes. Popcorn chicken had a lot of garlic and was seasoned well (typical of Taiwanese popcorn chicken). Not sure how crispy it would have been fresh instead of trapped in a sealed box for a 20-min drive but after popping it in the air fryer, the texture was more "thick with light crisp in certain places." Medium spicy option is spicy enough for tongue tingles but not enough to hurt. Grilled teriyaki Matsusaka pork neck isn't teriyaki IMO - more like a sweet garlic and soy sauce kind of sauce with a light dusting of red pepper and white sesame seeds, then topped with spring onions. Pork neck is a little more chewy than thinly sliced pork belly but still delicious overall. The dish came with sliced mushrooms and a bit of cabbage. Beef tongue bento (+$1 for braised pork on the rice) was relatively tender and came with wasabi in a side container. The bento box also had pickled cabbage, broccoli and bean sprouts, and a fried egg that was a little runny (but firm enough to not spill out at all) which is the perfect consistency to me. There was also some kind of soup that probably came with the bento - some kind of lightly salted broth with 2 pieces of daikon radish and 2 small pieces of...possibly beef liver. I forgot to weigh the meats but based on the leftovers and to give a sense of the portions, there were probably about 8 oz of popcorn chicken, 10-12 oz of the pork dish (not including mushroom and cabbage), and 6-7 oz of the beef tongue that was part of the bento. read more

Wish it came with an egg but you could add it for some extra $. Fried Chicken Steak Bento - Reminds me a bit of places like O2 Valley without the egg, but I also like O2 Valley's breading and flavor of the batter more. The side dishes all tasted like it was marinaded with dashi. The kimchi (?) was a surprise in a Taiwanese bento box; it didn't taste like Korean kimchi but an umami-flavored kimchi and I enjoyed it honestly. Oyster Omelette - the description on DD indicated shrimp but there weren't any shrimp. There was a lot of the thick layer of starch (?) in the omelette which was extremely weird... It's not terrible but it was way too much compared to the size of the dish. Lots of veggies inside and some oyster, not fishy. Sauce that came with the fish seems to be ketchup-based. We weren't a fan of this dish mostly because of the starch and probably wouldn't get this again. Despite our dislike of 1/3 dishes, still giving a 5/5 because even if the flavor wasn't quite the best we've had, the price and quantity is very reasonable. I would come here every day if I could. I'm usually not a big fan of eggplant dishes but this was my favorite dish here. The stirfry was so delicious and flavorful with the minced pork and garlicky sauce. Veggies were a nice balance with the rice dish as well. Pork belly was marinated well and was not too salty. Also got crispy popcorn chicken medium spice (they had actual garlic and good amount of heat). A side of milkfish soup too. Good amount of food for two hungry people and had leftovers! This place is a new Taiwanese restaurant. I've been told this location has had high turnover in the past so I'm hoping this one will stay for awhile! I tried a Taiwanese individual hotpot today despite it being kind of hot outside. I wanted spicy today so I got the Mala one with beef. It was a little spicy but I've definitely had way spicier broths that I would have to eat with caution. This one I felt like there was some kick but not super overwhelming which is good. I thought the broth was quite savory and tasty. The contents of the hotpot were good too. The beef (a tiny bit dry), fish cake, meat ball, fish ball, cabbage, tofu, mushrooms etc. I'm not a seafood person so I'm glad seafood was minimal in this particular dish. The hotpot came with a shacha sauce which was not bad but could have used a pinch of salt. I also picked rice as my side, but interestingly enough this hotpot already comes with some instant ramen noodles so I didn't use the rice as much as I normally do. The fried tofu my friend got was also decent! It came with some sauce and a side of pickled vegetables. Service was nice. They spoke Mandarin but English is fine too (not everyone at my table spoke Mandarin). The inside of the restaurant can get a little hot since they left the side door open. It is a tiny bit uncomfortable to eat hotpot on a hot day but I didn't mind too much since I love hotpot! read more

We came at opening time on a weekend and were directed to sit anywhere we desired. Plenty of parking since it is in a plaza with its own lot. Staff was friendly and attentive, came by to refill our water and also brought cut watermelon as a dessert. Around noon, the place did fill up, though they also have some patio seating if the weather is in your favor. Ordering is done via QR code at the table, and they'll bring the POS device to your table to pay for your check. We got the braised pork dish and a fried pork chop to share. The braised pork rice was tasty and a generous portion size for a $10 dish and even had some fatty port belly pieces, pretty legit. The fried pork chop was not bad, though the breading wasn't the best, the bottom got a bit soggy and it wasn't quite as crispy as I would expect for a fried dish. The portion size was decent though. They did have a bunch of Taiwanese dishes on the menu, so plenty of things to chose from, as well as drink options. Wow! Great food, popular, friendly and fast! This is a great place for those on a lunch break who want to get delicious food quickly. Our first item arrived within five minutes of our placing the order. The Braised Pork Rice Bowl, which had a delightfully sweeter taste than at other restaurants, also had a definite lack of anise that I often find at those places. For those of you who dislike anise (think licorice), this would be a great alternative. In short order came the Garlic Fish Fillet Rice Bento Box, which in addition to the entree, came with cabbage, corn with sausage, broccoli and braised pork rice. Wow! I did not expect so much food, and all under $17 - that is a good deal! The fish was flavorful, but the garlic added a good kick to it (strong garlic!). I really enjoyed the additional bento. (though the cabbage was quite over-cooked). Lastly, our third item came soon after the second, which was my favorite of the afternoon - the Eggplant Ground Pork With Basil. It was cooked enough to soften the texture, but not overly-cooked as to become soggy. This ground pork and sauce brought complimented the eggplant nicely, the astringency working well together with the seasoned pork. Delicious! We came at a good time (just at the top of the 12:00 hour). By the time our last item came, the restaurant began to fill up. I highly recommend this place, especially during the lunch rush. We found this place on Yelp and wanted to try it out! They have a yelp reservations section on their page, however, we did not need to use it since the restaurant was at half-capacity on a Sunday evening. The restaurant had seating for small and larger groups. There were smaller individual tables that could fit 2, booths that could fit 4, and enough space to bring tables together to fit 6-8 people. The service was VERY QUICK. We scanned the QR code on the tables, which opened up the menu and order queue (You pay at the register after the food comes out). After submitting the order, the food came out in 2-3 minutes! Considering that it is right across the street from the Cupertino Library, it would make sense that the service was quick and the portions were affordable. Overall, the food was pretty good, with one exception. We ordered the braised pork rice (~$9.90) and the sweet cucumber salad (~$7.50). For the price, I thought the braised pork rice bowl was filling and very tasty! It's a steal to find such a good deal for a home-cooked meal in the bay area. However, we thought that the cucumber salad missed the mark. The cucumber salad was surprisingly SUPER SALTY, to the point where we could not finish. Despite the portions being well worth the price, the cucumber salad wasn't it. Besides that, we really enjoyed the braised pork rice. Like previous reviews have said, the pork was tender and fatty. There was plenty of seating with lots of natural light. The staff were really nice and let us choose wherever we wanted to sit. the ordering is through a QR code and very easy. We ended up order the braised pork rice and also the Taiwanese fried pork chop. I thought the braised pork rice was pretty good in terms of the flavor and probably because of the fatty pork belly. Some of the meat parts were a little tough, but overall one of the better minced pork rice places in the area. The Taiwanese fried pork chop had good flavor but I felt like it wasn't really fried very evenly and the bottom of the pork got a bit soggy or there were parts that were fully covered in breading. This is definitely my new favorite Taiwanese place now. First of all, the braised pork rice (滷肉飯) is sooooo authentic. If anyone grew up in Taiwan like me, you know how hard it is to find good braised pork rice. I hate it when places use minced pork! But this place, the fatty pork belly and the sauce are the real game. It melts in my mouth and takes me back to the motherland. I will come back here to only get a bowl of braised pork rice. Secondly, the bento combo is HUGE! Both the pork chop and popcorn chicken are also seasoned correctly and authentic. Lastly, I would say the three fried combo and the radish omelette (菜脯蛋) were alright. Not bad, but I probably wouldn't get it again. Normally, when Asian grocery shopping, my nearest (& preferred) is the Ranch 99 Market across from Apple's Spaceship HQ in Cupertino. However, the items I came to buy on sales ran out. So I decided to drive to the De Anza location, and got what I wanted - though I only got one, the last one On the way back. I've decided to check out this place that I'd discovered on my Yelp Asian Yummy Bookmark List, it's right across the De Anza Ranch 99 store, but you need to be careful, it's tucked inside a residential apartment complex, and this is the ONLY thing in that area other than some offices. Initial reactions from the outside, I was wowed - because it's not located inside an Asian plaza, but inside a tiny Office Plaza - it's the only restaurant. As such, I must say the looks & feels are very different - in a good way, there's a garden like feel to it, so if you decide to eat outside al fresco, it's pretty cool - especially on warmer days There's a large menu sitting on a stand that allows patrons to look while waiting, or to-go orders. I must say the menu includes a fairly comprehensive Taiwanese dishes, but I must warn you - large offering in Taiwan Eateries isn't always a good thing, as nobody can do EVERYTHING well. One thing I ALWAYS do when trying out a new Taiwan Eatery is order the Beef Noodle Soup This Taiwanese comfort food CAN tell me "a lot", because this dish is so simple yet so difficult to make it good that you salivate for the next bowl! It does have the looks & feels, but they use Napa cabbage which isn't the preferred vegetables for Beef Noodle Soup, but at least they got the preserved sour vegetables - THAT's a MUST ‼‼‼ So far, it's an OK experience - remember GREAT Taiwan Eateries are difficult to find outside of Taiwan. So, the fact that we can find one to whet a little Taiwanese food cravings is a plus, can't complain too much. I'll give it a 4-star (3.5 if I can), I will return to try other things, and update my review accordingly. read more

I love coming here after a trip to the Cupertino library. It's just across the street and they have a lot of options on their menu. Their fried rice and noodles are popular for my kids. I personally like the shrimp omelette which I don't see in many other places. Usually only oyster omelette. read more

I've been craving 蚵子煎 oyster omelette for so long and this really hit the spot. I would 1000% come back for it. This is a great spot for Taiwanese classics to introduce to folks! Service is quick and super family friendly too. Remember the bill wont come to you, you pay on your way out by the front. read more

Food was good. The portions were just right. Overall, we enjoyed having lunch there. We would go back if we are in the area.

Came here looking for a quick meal so that we can relax the rest of the night and not have to worry about what to eat. The shrimp fried rice was so good we had to go back after eating our first togo order, just to order another one an hour later. Shrimps were perfectly cooked and there was a good amount. The popcorn chicken was ok. We asked for spicy but it wasn't spicy at all. We ordered at a self kiosk and order came out 10-20 mins. There's plenty of seating inside and outside. The restaurant is very close to the Cupertino Library, making its location ideal for lunch or linner during busy days spent at the library. I also appreciated the quiet atmosphere. I ordered 1 serving of one of the pork soups ("Zhai Cai Pork Noodle Soup") for myself. I'm not sure if the vegetable included in the soup is bok choy (which I really like) but I wish there was more of it in the soup. I thought that the soup could have been more flavorful and savory, it was a bit blander than what I prefer a bowl of soup to be. I'm far from a connoisseur when it comes to Taiwanese/Chinese food, though. For some reason, I was reminded of the time I was very sad in high school and watched a movie by myself for the first time in the theatre. The movie was Kungfu Panda/Kungfu Panda 2 (can't remember which one). I sat in the very last row alone, and laughed to my heart's content as a form of therapy. The noodle soups reminded me of the movie. To this day, it is one of my favorite comedies that's rated PG. read more

TLDR: Non-spicy popcorn chicken. When we came, it was still doing a soft opening, and our review reflects the fact that the service may not be as smooth. We came at 6:00pm on Sunday, and the place was already pretty full. Luckily there was still an empty table for us. My wife was excited to try their sesame oil chicken, as she had it at another place, and she loved it. Here, it's more of a hotpot, with a TON of other stuff in there... some she liked, some she didn't. She wasn't really expecting such a big dish. However, the chicken (the star of this overflowing ensemble) was unfortunately dry. I tried some of her soup, and I really liked the sesame flavor. It was very fragrant! I ordered the popcorn chicken, less spicy. It was STILL TOO SPICY for me. I'm a wuss though, so, if you like spicy, you will like it. I ended up washing a lot of the spice off with my wife's soup. That's how I can attest to the flavor of the soup. The chicken itself was juicy, and I believe it was fried well. I think I would really like it, if I had just gotten the no-spice option. We both didn't care for the Taiwanese sausage at all. It wasn't juicy, and didn't have that nice bite in the skin. We much prefer the one at the 7 Fishes in San Jose. We also had a A-choi garlic veggie. My wife is the vegetable expert, and she thought it was ok. A little bland, which is a bit of a surprise, since she likes bland food! Lastly, we ordered the taiwanese omelet with preserved radish. It came GUSHING oil. I went to go pick it up, and oil was just oozing out. It REALLY turned me off to it. It reminds me of an old Simpsons joke, where Homer asked how to tell if something is too fried? The doctor said, if you can see through the paper. Well, I tried to sop up the oil with a napkin, and... yeah I could see through it easily. So... 2 things which were not good. 2 things that were meh. 1 thing that was decent. It's Cupertino.... there's a TON of other Taiwanese places I'd rather eat at. But who knows... I may get a second opinion from a friend I usually eat lunch with. read more

We came in for Sunday dinner. There were two waitresses and one waiter, and less than 10 customers. The waiter brought us water promptly after we sat down. First, we were looking for the oyster pancake dish on the menu but we could not select it on the phone. We tried to ask for help but the two waitresses were talking to each other and did not notice us. Finally, one of the waitresses came and said that they don't have it. Really? 6 pm on Sunday and they already ran out of the most popular Taiwanese dish? There is no vermicelli 炒米粉dish on the menu. What kind of Taiwanese restaurant is it without vermicelli dish? Finally, we ordered the pork stomach soup 豬肚湯，Minced pork noodle with egg and Taiwanese sausage, and cabbage with bacon. The pork stomach soup tasted weird. It did not have 薏仁 Job's tears, tasted too sweet, and was lacking rice wine flavor. The minced pork noodle dish tasted fine. The cabbage with bacon dish was hard to chew, they put in too much garlic, too. During the meal, we had no service. The two ladies at the counter were either talking or reading their phones, only the waiter was bringing water pitcher and cups to customers when they arrive. Oh, what a bad experience! We paid $50 in cash (including tip but the tip should go to the waiter only) for 3 dishes when two dishes were unsatisfying! I wish they could improve their dish and service quality soon. It is too sad that Ma Ma Chen 陳媽媽 and South Land Flavor 台南小吃 are both closed. read more

A hidden gem for food lovers and dog parents alike! We had an incredible experience at JP Taiwan Bistro restaurant. The food was outstanding, every dish was packed with flavor and made with care. The Taiwanese beef noodle soup was rich and comforting, the eggplant perfectly seasoned, the omelet fluffy and savory, and the shrimp fried rice was a standout, so flavorful and satisfying. The service was just as impressive, friendly, attentive, and made us feel right at home. What made the experience even better was how dog-friendly the place is. Welcomed our German Shepherd with open arms. We sat outside comfortably and felt totally relaxed dining with our pup. Highly recommend this spot for authentic Taiwanese cuisine and a welcoming vibe for both humans and dogs! read more
