Got there at 6:00 on a Sunday. We were seated immediately. A big selection on the menu. We got Whole Squid with Ginger Sauce. This was more like squid soup. The broth was delicious and the bite size whole squid was fairly tender. I've never had squid like this before. The "feather" was still in them. Wonder if there is a good way to get it out? Got the pineapple bitter melon soup which was tasty and cleansing. I wish they didn't have small ginger chunks throughout the soup though. Three cup chicken, a staple of course. Very homey dishes, reminds me of home cooked meals you can't get at mainstream restaurants or anywhere else. I would highly recommend coming and eating family style to try out a lot of their dishes! Favorites seem to be the house special with ground pork and egg, though - which I can guarantee its quality. They also have a great selection of beer - which was also refreshing. Unlike a typical restaurant with tables and chairs, this was picnic table like seating--a good way to maximize patrons. Every table was occupied. One thing that is surprisingly difficult to find on the east coast (even New York) is authentic good Taiwanese food that serves classic dishes cooked homestyle. I have yet to really find any in New York. During my trip to the Bay Area, my friend who is also Taiwanese showed me this place. She said it's one of her favorite Taiwanese place. Honestly it's the best Taiwanese food place I've had in America. I'm amazed not only by how delicious the dishes were but also the menu selection featuring many classic Taiwanese dish that is difficult to find anywhere else. For example, the stir fried clams with sponge gourds 絲瓜蛤蜊 - always has a special place in my heart. The lady was so nice and the food came out pretty quickly. We were starving so we got plenty of dishes to share. - stir fried clams with gourds - braised tofu with ground pork - classic braised pork rice - salt and pepper crispy cuttlefish Again, everything was SO GOOD. For a moment I thought I had transported back to Taiwan. The portion sizes are also quite generous. We had left over food we took home for another meal. I've come here for years and I was disappointed with my usual favorites for the first time. Hopefully just a single bad day and not representative of their usual quality nowadays... Lu rou fan (house special ground pork over rice bowl) - they've replaced a normal egg with 4 quail eggs instead, not a huge surprise given the recent egg prices. However, the pork was not like their usual... today's was a bit dry overall. Some pieces were fatty and tender (like their usual) with the majority being lean and dry. Can't tell if they mixed two types of pork for some cost savings. Flavor was good as usual. Crispy shrimp with mayo and pineapple - I was most disappointed by this dish. The texture of the shrimp was quite hard and didn't make the chewing experience very nice. It's not my first time ordering takeout for this dish, so I don't think it's because of that. I think there's a bit of shrinkflation too as there was less in the serving size than usual. I understand that the economy has been tough in general, so the egg swap and quantity may have been affected. However, the quality seems to have decreased as well this time. I felt suffocated and desperately wanted to walk out but stayed put. I want them to take note of this and air out the room often. Chilli sauce- 5/5- this is not a dish we ordered, rather it's the sauce they offered on the side when we asked for it. It was made with green chillies as opposed to red and was a flavor bomb. What a cool place to enjoy a Taiwanese spin to wok cooking. Most of us are traditionally used to Chinese wok cooking but this will open your eyes to a more diverse style of cooking with different options and flavors. This is the second time I've come here and it did not disappoint. We ordered a total of five dishes. Some were hits, some needed some slight modifications but overall we really enjoyed this meal. My wife and I wanted to get a nice variety and came with an appetite. We decided to get a traditional pork rice bowl, along with a stir fried chicken in their satay sauce, pork ribs, a seafood sizzling plate and green beans. My favorites were the stir fried chicken, pork ribs and the green beans. The stir fried chicken was juicy and the sauce was on point. I loved the basil addition which added more depth to the flavor. Be careful of the chicken bones and make sure you double check each bite as you can accidentally swallow a sharp chicken bone. The pork ribs were cooked perfectly. Black pepper went well with the pork ribs. The green beans were so easy to eat and provided a nice balance with the heavier sauces and strong flavors. It itself had a delicious garlic sauce which made it extremely flavorful. Wasn't a huge fan of the seafood dish. It lacked flavor and could've benefitted with more salt. I did enjoy the variety of seafood it came with. The pork rice bowl was standard. The pork was on the tougher side but nevertheless, was enjoyable. They have some super yummy Taiwanese food, and the inside of the restaurant has almost a rustic, shed-in-the-mountains kind of vibe, with communal seating. The service is okay, mainly people just trying to do their jobs. As it is a smaller establishment, you might have to wait a little while during peak times (dinners and weekend lunches). A long overdue review of one of our favorite Taiwanese spots in the Bay Area! Not only is service ridiculously fast but the food is top notch! We've been on several occasions and love their Three Cup Tofu (trust me, it's better than the chicken because the tofu absorbs all the sauce!), Ground Pork Rice Bowl, and Hot and Sour Soup. They have a slight cash discount as well. Seating can be crowded during busier dinner hours but since the food comes out so fast, the wait time usually isn't bad. Inside of clean with long, wooden tables - great for family style sharing. We once came to order take out at 4:55pm before they officially opened at 5pm and we had our food in hand by 5:03pm. I came here to meet up a group of friends based upon the recommendation of one member of the group. Located in an unassuming corner lot, this tiny restaurant gets quite a bit of food traffic. As I was waiting outside for the rest of my friends to show up, I continued to see groups of people coming and going from this establishment. The space inside is pretty cramped, but we were thankfully able to secure a large table without too long of a wait. Service here was pretty friendly, and we appreciated that they didn't rush us as we both waited for habitually late stragglers of the group to arrive, as well as everyone to decide on what to order. The food itself was slightly on the pricier end, but understandable given the current inflation. However, none of the many dishes we ordered really jumped out at me. Most of them tasted pretty average at best, and some were a bit too heavy on the sauce and sodium. I took my parents here for dinner yesterday and the entire experience was extremely disappointing. We ordered the salted egg loofah, sizzling beef, three-cup salmon, and beef chow mein. The chow mein arrived with hot noodles but cold beef. The sizzling beef plate was watery, and the loofah dish was literally half a bowl of water. Only the three-cup salmon tasted decent. When I spoke with the only server working that night, she was impatient and dismissive. She said the chow mein could be remade, claimed the loofah "is supposed to have water," and insisted the sizzling plate "needs water or it will burn." If the issues were just from the kitchen, we could have been understanding -- but her attitude made everything worse. She showed no smile the rest of the meal, and because our table was next to the cashier, we could hear her loudly slamming dishes in the back. This ended up being one of the worst meals we've had in the Bay Area. The food quality was poor, and the service was even worse.
