When Liang's Village first came to the states they were one of the first Taiwanese Chinese restaurants in the Bay Area. Note that I said Taiwanese Chinese not Taiwanese because they were the type of food that when Chinese soldiers would cook/eat when they first retreated to Taiwan so they don't have the same ingredients they had. The new location is now next to Starbucks instead of the other end of the plaza. The place is clean but slightly smaller. They also changed their menu slightly and they are definitely competing with Duan Chun Zhen across the street. They both offer beef noodle soup so I'll mostly commenting on the difference. Liang definitely gives you more beef (meat, tendon, tripe) but it's also about 50% more expensive. They also added Chinese sauerkraut which makes the soup base very different. I personally prefer the 13 spices used in Duan. The noodles are also different. The texture of Duan is more consistent but Liang feels more handmade. Overall I'd prefer Duan over Liang but Liang has more choices such as beef pancake. In other words if you just want noodles Duan is a better choice but if you want more types of food this is an ok choice. There are also more choices for tea here. Drove all the way from San Francisco to Cupertino to try Liang's Village, and it was absolutely worth the trip. Although the new Cupertino location is smaller than their previous spot, the food hasn't missed a beat. We started with the Taiwanese kimchi and century egg tofu with pork floss! both great appetizers that set the tone for the meal. For mains, we ordered the tendon beef soup, dry mixed noodles, and the peanut-braised pork feet. Everything was flavorful, comforting, and reminiscent of classic Taiwanese home-style cooking. The dishes leaned slightly on the sweeter side, which added to the nostalgic feel. The standout for me was the beef tendon braised soup! The soup was hearty with picked mustard elevating the natural flavor of the beef, super satisfying, perfect for me to order because I usually don't eat the noodles. The tendon so soft and melts in your mouth! W texture Service was impressively fast; our food arrived within five minutes of ordering. The interior, however, feels more like a commercial kitchen and retail space than a traditional restaurant, with shelves stocked with Liang's Village frozen foods and sauces available for purchase. It's not the most atmospheric dining experience, but the food more than makes up for it. Well... This place was on my list of things to try until last night. We came in a little bit before closing and the waiter informed us that we had until 8:25 to order. After placing our order, the food came out relatively quick. We ordered 2 beef noodle soups, the works, and 2 beef rolls. Starting off with the beef rolls, these came out cold. I heard that this is what this place was known for. The meat in our rolls wasn't even lukewarm and the pancakes came out super soggy almost like they didn't even try. Please tell me how the pancake look brown and crispy on the outside and still comes out cold and not crispy at all. My nephew even said they weren't crispy and he's 3. The lady told us that the sauce on the inside was salty and that's why they don't give extra and man was she right. 1/5* The beef noodles soup itself flavor wise was good and portion wise it was good for $21, but my noodles had no chew to them at all. I was attempting to pick them up with chopsticks and they would just break into pieces. They do give a decent amount of beef though in this. 2.5/5* for the flavor but don't expect much from the noodles. Same thing went for the works, it was a peanut buttery sauce that the lady claimed wasn't spicy, but my parents noticed that it had a kick to it even though they asked for it not to be spicy. Let me tell you, I am so glad Liang's Village is in this plaza in Cupertino! I have been visiting Liang's Village for over a decade, but not this one! There was one in Milpitas, I would frequent with my family, one in SJ and a different location in Cupertino. The stores slowly faded We had gone to another restaurant called Liang "House, Kitchen, insert common word in a restaurant name" and it wasn't good, so I continued my quest. We went in because they were serving savory soy milk for breakfast. Not a common dish, but can be so freakin good on a cold morning, and this one did not disappoint. We have come in a few times since, but the very first time we met the current owner, Austin, the son of the original owner and he makes sure to continue his family's legacy. Liang's Village offers two kinds of chili crisp oil, and Austin makes it himself. They offer extra spicy garlic is everything he named it. It's extra spicy and you can see and taste the garlic chips. Amazing! They sell them in the store, but also on Amazon if you're not nearby. Highly recommend If you like spicy (really do, and not just saying that because you think you're impressing people), with flavor and garlic. Breakfast is only served on the weekend and everything is tasty and made fresh. There is a big parking lot, but keep in mind this plaza gets busy. It's in the same plaza as a TJ Maxx and across from Target, so it kind of works as the perfect weekend errand stop. I always recommend the braised pork and the beef pancake wrap since those are my go tos, but check out their breakfast and top the turnip fries with some extra spicy garlic chili oil. I was a little disappointed to learn that the actual restaurant doesn't offer it, but the generous portion of noodles more than made up for it. Best Taiwanese beef noodle soup in the South Bay! I just recently travelled to Taiwan and this tastes about the same and very authentic. There is a "beef and tendon noodle soup" as well as a "beef only noodle soup" on the menu - you might think the beef only one would be better value and have more meat, I ordered both to see the difference - even though the meat only one does have more meat, the meat is more tough and very hard to chew. Of the many, MANY restaurants that I've bookmarked to try over the years, Liang's Village was one of the first. Between all of the positive things I'd heard about them from friends and the fact that SF has long been short on Taiwanese spots, it was just a matter of when I'd make the drive down here, rather than if. However, I never would have guessed it would take me THIS long time to finally check this place out! Since I never made it to their original location, I can't speak as to how it looked in-person, but based on the photos, their current home is far more modern and spacious. Similarly, the menu seems to have evolved as well. Sadly, it doesn't seem as extensive as it used to be, as some of their previous offerings, like several varieties of their scallion pancakes and ox tail dishes, have fallen off the menu, but the majority of their appetizers (hot, cold, and stewed), rice plates, dry noodles, and soup noodles still remain. More specifically, the beef noodle soup, lu rou fan, and fried pork chops that I've long heard so much about! -- SPECIAL FRIED FATTY RED PORK...$14.85 This was awesome! The batter was crispy and not too thick (nor oily), the seasoning on this was great, and I loved how juicy and flavorful the pork was. Admittedly, it was slightly fattier than I would've liked, but that's preferable over it being too lean and dried out. -- THE WORKS with Minced Pork Sauce, Fragrant Red Oil, Peanut Sauce, Za-Cai, Scallions, Fried Egg, and Thin Noodles...$19.50 The description sounded like this was Dan Dan Noodles, which it was, but the name threw me off. Regardless, this was pretty solid - I liked the bite of the noodles, there was a touch of spice, and the minced pork was great. That said, the peanut sauce was a bit overwhelming. -- BEEF & TENDON NOODLE SOUP with Pickled Sour Cabbage, Green Onions, and Cilantro...$21.25 One of our favorite beef noodle soups anywhere. We've tried this with both their wide and thin noodles and we liked the former better (nice chewiness to it). In each case, though, the beef was tender and meaty while the broth was delicious - beefy, robust, and with a nice body to it. -- PRESERVED EGG & TOFU with Pork Sung and Scallions...$9.75 Aside from how it was prepped ahead of time and served to us in a to-go container, this was FANTASTIC. The egg was awesome, the tofu was so silky smooth, and the sauce was terrific. Add on the pork sung and scallions, which are always good, and this was easily my favorite dish. -- MINCED PORK RICE BOWL with Stewed Chicken Egg and Pickled Sour Cabbage...$13.50 Not nearly as good as my favorite that I've had (Tofu King in Irvine), but this was up there. The portion was fair, the rice was soft, and the sauce had a lot of flavor to it. I do wish there had been more meat with some pork belly mixed in, though. -- SPICY RED OIL MINI WONTON...$14.75 Not bad, but not really what I expected either. In my mind, I thought these would be small wontons, but they were just regular wonton size skins with a very small ball of filling. That said, this still tasted pretty good - the filling was both meaty and juicy and the skins were tender. -- DRY BEEF NOODLE with Cilantro, Green Onion, and Peppercorn Powder...$19.85 We were really intrigued by this and it wasn't bad, but I definitely like the soupy version better. By comparison, a couple of chunks of beef felt a bit tough, but the noodles were just as good and I liked the sauce this came with (packed a nice punch). As far as service goes, I know some of my fellow Yelpers have recently noted some issues, but I've never found it to be problematic. Each time I've been here, even when the restaurant has been busy, the workers have all been friendly, come around often, and responsive whenever we've ha any requests. Plus, the food has come out fairly quickly, too! While not everything has tasted as good I would've hoped for, it's easy to see why so many people have been so fond of Liang's Village (myself included). The things I've tried have been pretty good for what it is and they can certainly hold their own against other Taiwanese joints nearby and down in SoCal/Orange County. I just wish this place was closer to SF so that I could come here more often! At the very least, it would make it a lot easier for me to come back to check out their Taiwanese breakfast, but I'm still more than happy to make the drive back down this way to try more. My boyfriend & I get the Special Fried Fatty Red Pork Rice every time! We drive all the way to Cupertino just to get this dish. We've never had anything like it & I really can't compare it to anything else. The pork melts in your mouth and the pickled veggies complement it so well with its freshness and crunch. The place can get packed but never has a wait. I love that it's located in Cupertino. Perfect to explore and get dessert after. The restaurant has a lot of seating and has a nicely decorated wall with lots of merch and chili oil you can buy. I keep wanting to like this place more than I do, so have been back a few times.. but unfortunately, it never quite hits the spot. Decor of Liang's Village is trendy Asian American, and sells a bunch of cool, related merch too. They have a pretty big menu, the latest time I went we ordered their beef noodle soup (with thin noodles) and also chicken cutlet rice plate. The fried chicken plate is pretty good. Nice and crunchy fried chicken, and classic pairing with the rice and sides. Their beef noodle soup is not bad, it tastes like a tomato based broth, and has a lot of sweetness to it (which got a little too sweet by the end for my taste). Not quite the hearty, deep broth that I'd want though. Thin noodles are the best here in my opinion, the wide noodles are too thick to enjoy with this broth. Also, the beef was pretty tough.. not the tender beef cuts I'd look for in beef noodle soup. I didn't end up finishing it. Service is okay, we did have to try and actively flag down help here and there vs being checked in on. Overall, it's okay. Solid spot for hand pulled noodles with some standout dishes. I've been here twice with mixed results. The works, a dry noodle with a spicy peanut base, was very delicious and satisfying. Really liked the noodles, meat, and sauce all working together. The beef roll is excellent, a little doughy but packed with good beef and cilantro that makes it work. The cow, a beef noodle soup, just wasn't for me. The noodles weren't as consistent and I didn't enjoy all the different cow parts with varying textures, though that's personal preference. I found the wood ear mushroom to be a bit on the oily side, but really appreciated the garlic and vinegar flavors. It felt like it was going to do wonders for my gut! What was odd, however, was that this came out in a plastic container. I can see why they would do that for prep, I just didn't love receiving my dine in meal in a plastic container. The wontons were also pretty good. I didn't think they were too spicy, but they were pretty flavorful. They are mini so don't expect a ton of filling if you order these. Absolutely DO NOT get the wonton add-on to the noodles, it's such a rip off. Both the chili sauces/tasted the same and were too spicy for my nephew. Wonton add on: 0/5 $5.25 for 5 teeny tiny wontons with pea sized filling. We added it to the dry noodle and it actually subtracted from the dish due to how disappointing they were. My family and I have been coming on and off for probably a decade now, even from the olden days when they shared a plaza with Marukai Market and Elephant Bar at their old location. When their food is good, it's REALLY GOOD. It brings me back to childhood in Taipei. My gripe is that they're inconsistent. We always get their pork chop rice dish when we drive to/from LA, and about a third of the times, it's way too fried and dry. I've complained about this, but they're sticklers for the cooking time since no one wants undercooked pork. I understand this, but when you spend $19 per dish, you really don't want to be eating overly-fried, greasy, dried up pork jerky. On this last visit, we ordered three of those, and two out of the three were TERRIBLE. As in, it hurt our teeth to chew them. The managers are nice though (shoutout to ALLEN and HENRY), so I appreciated their customer service. That's a positive for sure. Other points to them: they have great drinks, and their other dishes are good too. I've enjoyed the bamboo app and The Works dry noodle dish. Overall, Liang's will remain my Taiwanese staple despite their inconsistency. read more

I was a fan of Liang's Village when it was in its old location in the beginning of its existence, but the last decade has seen a steady decline in the quality and portion size of their food and a steady increase in their prices. I used to enjoy their beef pancake wraps, but now they are dry and skimpy. Their beef noodle soup used to be a delight, chock full of goodies and very filling. Now it is watery and tasteless and ridiculously expensive. I'm not certain I will ever return given the rudeness of their staff as well. It's too bad, because this place used to be great. I also really dislike how hard they try to push their frequent visitor program and their ridiculous drinks. Bit of a bummer since that's what they're known for, but I'll definitely be back to try it. Ended up getting the dan dan noodles and beef noodle soup instead -- both solid, flavorful, and satisfying. Prices are a little high for Taiwanese food, but portions are good and everything tastes fresh. Next time I'm eyeing the beef pancake wrap and their weekend Chinese breakfast (youtiao, soy milk, etc.). I had several different items; Preserved egg and tofu with pork floss - The preserved egg was so creamy and worked so well with the tofu. It really elevated the flavors by 3 fold. I could eat heaps of rice with this dish. The pork floss also added a more savory element as well and that really balanced out the flavors of the preserved egg. Cucumber - Excellently pickled. Spicy stew combo- Pig ears were nice an crunchy, beef shank and bean curd strips were nice and tender with hints of spice from the chili oil. A lot of umami with every bite. This place is solid for their food dont get me wrong, the prices and the wait was not bad. I just think that its mid tier, nothing wowed me but it hit solidly. The beef wrap rolls were pretty solid, my friends enjoyed them more than i did. The sauce in there was pretty simple and it made me hungrier for the main course. I got the minced pork dry noodles and they got the job done. The flavors were savory and the wide noodles were very chewy like its supposed to be. The flavors are what u expect and it seemed ok. We've been to Liang's Village multiple times over the past few years and it's really become one of our favorite casual, taiwanese eats! We love their hand-pulled noodles. ~The Food~ As mentioned earlier, their wide hand-pulled noodles are amazing; Has just the right amount of chew and thickness. Our usual go-to is The Works, which is their dry-noodle dish with ground pork and fried egg. This dish never disappoints. Their Beef Wraps are also pretty good! The wrap is nice is crispy and chewy and the beef is very tender. We recently tried their Charcoal Peppery Pork Buns, which we enjoyed but didn't think they were anything too special; just some good standard steamed pork buns! They have really cool drinks - We've tried their Fresh Peach Tea which has real peaches in it which I think is really nice! Very refreshing drink to balance out the other food dishes! ~The Extras~ They put jars of their crunchy chili oil on the tables and they are really good! Stopped by today excited to try their vegan options, but unfortunately, I didn't get the chance due to the poor service. We were seated by a friendly young man who brought us water and menus, but the service took a turn after that. We were ready to order, stacked the menus to the side of our table, and waited for someone to come by. I made eye contact with an Asian female server wearing a mask several times, but she didn't acknowledge our party or take our order. However, she greeted the two other parties who arrived after us, seated adjacent to our table, and promptly took their orders. She eventually stopped at the table next to us to ask how their meal was going, so I made eye contact with her again to wave her over. She finally asked if we were ready to order, I said yes, but instead of taking our order, she walked away. From there, she took water and silverware to a different table, then started cleaning another table, but never came back to take our order. After a while, I noticed the young man who had seated us near the front counter and made eye contact with him. He came over to take our order, but after sitting for several minutes and being disrespected by another staff member, I decided to leave instead of ordering. It's hard not to feel alienated when you notice that everyone else is receiving quick service and kindness. Also, since the female server was taking orders from two tables right next to us, it's hard not to think the poor service was due to being the only brown table in the restaurant, especially given the current social climate. I understand that I have an Asian last name, but as a very tan mixed-race person I don't usually present as Vietnamese. I won't support any business that shows any type of bias or discrimination against brown people, so I won't be going back to this restaurant.
