Went here on a Monday night and there was no wait, we got to pick what table to sit at. There's a QR code to scan for a menu, but the waitress gave us physical menus (which I prefer). Tried the braised beef shank noodle soup with flat noodle, and the broth was really flavorful and not too salty. There were 3 pieces of the beef shank, but 1 piece of beef had a tendon stuck to it, so it was a bit hard to eat. The other 2 pieces of beef were really tender though. We were confused when the waiter brought our noodles before the chili wontons, because usually the appetizer arrives before the entree. We had to ask another waitress if the other waiter who took our order actually ordered the chili wontons for us, she checked for us and apologized and brought the dish to us. The chili wontons meat texture was ok, the chili oil was pretty spicy (not mala spicy which can numb your tongue) and had a nice crunch from the peanuts. I noticed one wall in the restaurant had Chinese characters printed on it. The restaurant does have a more modern design and the food did come out pretty quickly since the broth is already made ahead of time. Both the braised combo appetizer and the beef noodle lost some flavor compared to Fremont store or even previously in cupertino - which was really the best in bay area. Appetizer - the shank was not even braised at all. The bean curd and hundred curd also lack flavor compared to before. Beef noodle- still good but lost some flavor. I had the half beef half tendon noodle, and the beef was very dry compared to before. The fat/tendon that helps the melting sensation is no longer present. We waited longer for the food to come out, and it was puzzling especially because our orders were their popular items. We haven't been here for awhile. Since the kiddo missed their Century Egg Tofu, we return for a weekend lunch. The Century Egg and Tofu is as good as before but we only regretted that the menu had changed and they no longer offer a combo meal including an appetizer. Nevertheless, we still enjoyed the dish, and kiddo enjoyed her beef noodle stir fry. I tried their traditional flavor combo that came with a bowl of beef soup, a bowl of minced pork over rice and a plate of lettuce with sauce. It's indeed an all-time favorite that can't go wrong with my kiddie taste buds. The beef soup is just a clear broth with a few slices of beef but the meat portions are reasonable and the flavor is good as the Taiwanese cuisine likes to use ginger to wash away the bloody taste of beef. The half meat half tendon beef noodle soup came out the latest and compared to the Flaming Ox Taiwanese Noodle in San Jose, we could immediately tell the difference. I don't particularly enjoy the flavor of the Sichuan pepper, so I don't appreciate their 23 spices recipe. The tendon was cooked nicely but the beef was clearly losing to Flaming Ox as the cut was smaller and the meat much rougher. There was even another promo if you chose between downloading their app and signing up, you get another free fried pork chop. Luckily, a lot of folks on the waitlist no-showed, so we only waited about 10 minutes, but I can definitely see the wait time getting pretty high on weekends. Parking lot is shared with Marina Foods, so it's fairly easy to get a spot especially if you park a bit further out. Portion sizes are okay; if you're a big eater, you might want to order some sides. Tomato Beef Shank & Tendon Noodle Soup (4.25/5): This was actually better than the basic beef noodle soup in my opinion. The broth had way more depth of flavor with a bit of added sweetness and acidity from the tomato. Beef shank and tendon were both super soft and the noodles weren't quite as bouncy as I'd like, but still had a decent chew. Braised Beef Noodle Soup & Tendon (3.75/5): The broth just felt a little bland and the noodles / toppings are the same as above. Braised Dish Platter (3.75/5): The tofu is AMAZING. I thought this place was pretty standard for beef noodle soup but they don't give you as much of the protein. The soup is flavorful. We came a couple times over the years and each time the service did take some time both to order and also to receive the food. My husband and I both like Din Tai Fung's fried rice and also pork chop better, but this place is pretty good with rarely any wait. I kept seeing this place on XHS and decided to stop by for Saturday lunch. The restaurant was still super busy at 1PM with a virtual waitlist you check into when you arrive. However, the table turnover is fast so we waited only about 5-8min even with 7 parties in front of us. This place serves Taiwanese food and specializes in Beef Noodle Soup. Everything we ordered was really good, from the soup to the XLB to the braised side dishes. My group's favorite was actually the popcorn chicken! It was fried perfectly and so flavorful.
