Located in Santa Clara, parking is plentiful and easy to find. The ambiance wasnt bad. Chairs were a bit weird to sit in and I felt cramped. Music wasnt too loud. Braised chicken with sour cabbage and beef slices (4/5): very yummy. The presentation was amazing and my goodness was there a lot of food. Just the sole dish is enough to feed 5-6 people. With that being said I do think the price is a bit steep. It also took a while. The chicken and beef was very tender and juicy though. Overall, Ni Chou Sha Kitchen has some delicious food. Service and atmosphere could be a bit better.
Came here to try Northeastern style Chinese food on a Sunday for dinner. The plaza has plenty of parking, but parking nearby the restaurant is pretty tight and the rows of spots are pretty close to each other. There was no line or wait when we entered, but also no one to greet us at the entrance. We had to follow another party who just walked in to sit in an empty booth. This is when I should've known the service was going to be mediocre at best. We had to constantly flag staff to get more napkins, water, order, follow up on items we ordered, pay, etc. It was pretty tiring to get the attention of anyone. Now we will go to the food. We ordered- cucumber salad, lamb skewers, iron pot stewed goose, steamed buns, fried rice, and a few non alcoholic beverages. The first item we received was the cucumber salad and the first bite was just pure salt. We then had to try to flag someone down to tell them that it was terribly salty and could not be consumed. We eventually received a replacement which tasted appropriately. The eggplant was the best thing we ordered, followed by the lamb skewers. The price of the iron pot is incredibly steep, and while portions are generous, I still wouldn't consider the price worth it. The goose was very gamey and it was hit or miss for our group. Eventually we noticed that not everything we ordered was brought to the table, and we again had to make continued efforts to follow up on these items. We then noticed a party had brought their dog into the facility. There was no noticeable markings that it was a service dog, so I am concerned about any health code violations this may bring. Overall, I think if you want to try this cuisine, it's worth trying at least once. I, however, will not be coming back.
So yummy! They specialize in their big pots that come in lots of varieties. We got the one pot pork stew that had pork ribs, chili peppers, corn, potatoes and tofu puffs. The stew was very earthy and we got medium spice which had a nice kick. All the ingredients soaked up the flavor so well, but I wish the ribs were more tender. They also had so many more delicious dishes other than their specialty pots, some of which I actually enjoyed even more than the pot itself. Some highlights and recommendations from me would be the Northeast-Style Cumin Beef (so peppery and earthy), sesame sauce noodles (refreshing, savory, garlicky, soooo good), Stir-Fried Potato & Eggplant & Pepper (tender veggies in a savory umami sauce), and the Shenyang Hui Tou (juicy beef and onion meat pocket)! The prices of some dishes are definitely on the higher side but the portions here are quite big as well. Excellent service. They gave recommendations and also explained to us about certain dishes we had questions about. The place is decorated wonderfully. Great spot for large parties and families with unique yet authentic dishes! Overall: 4.1/5
I had iron pot stew in Dalian when visiting my cousin there. I remember the flavors being good and I particularly like the cornmeal bun/bread. I was so excited to see that an iron pot stew place opened in the Bay! I do think if you get the iron pot stew, you should get it with at least 4 people because the portion is very very generous! I went with 2 others and even though we were all super full (and the other two had just played a game of tennis), there was a whole oven tray worth of leftovers afterwards. It seems pricey at first, but I think for the amount of food you get it's actually pretty worth. I think it's also worth adding the cornmeal bread but not necessarily the dough twist. We got one of the pickled cabbage combos, and I think the pickled cabbage adds a nice flavor profile to the rest. Wait time is a bit longer, I think we had to wait 20-30 minutes for food, but I do think it's worth the wait! They didn't necessarily explain when they brought out the stew, but it's not ready to eat immediately. They set a timer and will come back and open the lid for you when the food is ready (so don't try to open on your own!). I liked the interior decoration: ample number of booths and each table has the central heating element for the iron pot stew. Definitely planning to come back!
The pots might look expensive, but there's a ton of food and easily could be shared with 4-5 people. Definitely recommend coming with a larger group just to be able to share more things.
Ni Chou Sha Kitchen is one of the very few spots in the South Bay serving Northeastern Chinese cuisine, and the flavors are genuinely authentic. That said, Dongbei food is known for its oversized, family-style portions - and this place doesn't follow that tradition. Dishes are noticeably smaller than what you'd expect from the cuisine, which is worth knowing before you order. The cold dish selection is a strong point - there's a good variety of appetizers and small sides that work well for sharing. The Stewed Pot Goose is available, but it's priced significantly higher than most other items on the menu and may not feel proportionate to the portion size. The rest of the menu represents the cuisine reasonably well and flavors are on point. Service is efficient and food comes out promptly. The interior is decorated in a Northeastern Chinese style. Parking is plentiful right outside the unit, which is a practical plus on El Camino Real. A solid option if you're looking to try Dongbei cuisine in the area. Just be mindful of portion sizes and check the price on the goose before committing.
Wow didn't know we had iron pot here in the bay! This place is perfect for party's and has lots of food! I didn't realize one pot alone can feel like 6-8 people easily! This was such a fun experience, I can't wait to come back again!
Before I get to the review, let me first start with all the things that are great. The people are very nice. The restaurant is very clean. The QR-code menus work well. The seats are comfortable. The food pricing is fine. It smells good inside. The parking lot is sufficiently sized. The location is relatively convenient. They take credit cards. Solely based on those things, Ni Chou Sha would get 5 stars. Unfortunately, we also have to include the food in a restaurant review, and this was unfortunately not very good. This is not to say the food was using poor quality ingredients - everything was fresh. It's just that the dishes themselves are not very appealing. I've eaten a lot of regional varieties of Chinese food and this is my first time trying this cuisine, and while I went in with an open mind I just couldn't get past how bland and boring everything was. We started with Five Color Jelly Noodles. This is like vegetables and flat wide noodles with a sesame paste sauce. It tasted a little bit like sesame, that's it. Next we had Dongbei Chunky Soup, which is like congee with some chopped up vegetables inside. It reminded me of some kind of bland canned food you'd give to a baby. Not that it tasted bad, it just didn't taste like anything. Stir Fried Chile Pepper with Tofu Skin was next, requested extra spicy. It tasted like pure nothing. Some good textures but absolutely no flavor. Not even slightly spicy either. The peppers in the dish had to have been bell peppers, they weren't even remotely hot. After that the last of the side dishes came, Stir Fried Pork Intestines. I am somewhat wary of these as poorly cleaned intestines can be unpleasant to eat. But these had zero smell and were very tender. But aside from the faintest hint of soy sauce, again, it was very bland. Finally, the iron pots, Ni Chou Sha's claim to fame. We ordered two, the Fish Stew and the Northeastern One-Pot Pork Stew. Side note: these pots INDIVIDUALLY can serve 6 people. So don't come here thinking you'll try a couple pots with your group of 4. One pot is gigantic. Also, if you're at one of the tables with two depressions, be warned that one side of the table will have to exit the table for the pot to be put down. These iron pots are actually rather inconvenient to eat out of, as I would learn. The fish stew came with about a pound of noodles, these giant pieces of cornbread, and a ton of cabbage. Buried within were some slices of pork and an indeterminate fish which had barely any texture. This dish was a little spicy, which was good, but it had zero other flavor. Not salty, not sour, not soy, not herbaceous - just some heat. And everything was brown or greenish-brown. Textures of all the things beside the fish were fine but I just couldn't get past the taste. The pork pot was a bit less successful. For some reason it seemed to have the funky intestine smell that I expected the intestines to have, which was off putting. This might just be a personal thing as everyone else in my group said they actually preferred it. It's always good to try new things, and my taste may be different than others. But bottom line the food just doesn't appeal to me.
Support a new and interesting spot in the plaza! NiChouSha has some kinks to work out, but man does it have potential. Food is generally good, they just need to work on some parts of their logistics. Staff are thoroughly welcoming and the interior is a rather playful and energetic mood. Representing a cuisine in China I'm not too familiar with (dongbei/north east), the naming conventions on the menu could use some work but good is generally quite tasty. The liangpi is fantastic and remarkably fresh/chewy noodles. Some of the best noodles texture wise I've had this side of the Pacific. Mild mala with a creamy sauce. The main entrees are quite full of deep fried things. Even the "braised pork and eggplant" was actually deep fried. Deliciously deep fried, but deep fried. Sweet and sour pork was also very deep fried. They were a few too many deep fried things that visit, but texture was spot on crunchy, but definitely made to be eaten with rice. Iron pots are great for groups but definitely something that's confusing since the pictures have bread in them but they don't actually come with any. Nor any rice either. However flavorwise they definitely need plenty of carbs to soak up the rich sauce. The spicy chicken iron pot is legit asian spicy though so no holds barred for the weak. However, I can vouch that they are most delicious. That said, the whole side dish buffet thing is quite confusing. Staff seem to say one thing but practically do another. Iron pots get a free dish each but you get charged per plate. You are expected to bring that plate back otherwise you get charged again(?). We ended up with an extra charge despite two iron pots. Yet the server explained it as "all you can eat". Conflicting info. Definitely a wonky spot of service.
What a cute northeastern style Chinese restaurant! From the moment you walk in yo can see the theming is quite complete - red wallpaper all throughout, and quite festive too! We ordered the cold beef and sweet and sour chicken appetizers which were great - the chicken had a nice glaze and a crispy crunch but unfortunately was a little dry and tough. We also ordered the beef pot (huge by the way! Meant to be shared by a large group) - in retrospect we would have ordered more noodle and veggie add ons as the beef got to be a bit too much by the end. It did pair nicely with the cornbread and dough twists! Overall a very tasty restaurant with a good selection of Northeastern dishes. I'm not clamoring for more but I would revisit for sure.
Pretty bomb, super huge portions, super garlicky and chili dongbei style. Cornbread and steamed buns suck up all the flavor in the sauce.

I saw this place on Instagram months ago and have wanted to try it since then! I have not tried dongbei style hot pot before so was very intrigued. We ordered the sour cabbage and added a corn bread and goose duvet. The goose duvet was very interesting, it's like a dough cover and extra goose! I was here with three people and of course we could not finish there is so much food! read more

I came here because it is close to my home, and parking is easy. Unfortunately, the food and service fell short. Noodles: The texture lacked the authentic chewy bite (jindao), and the overall flavor was very plain. Pork Bone: It had a very strong herbal smell that overpowered the dish, which I did not enjoy. Service: When I walked in, every server was looking at their phone, and there was no greeting or active service. I originally had very high expectation for their iron pot duck but I didn't order today because I came by myself,l. but after this experience, I don't think I will visit again. read more

My first time trying iron pot stew, and it exceeded my expectations. We ordered the fish stew with traditional corn cakes, and everything was delicious. The fish was fresh and tender, and the broth was rich and flavorful without being overly salty. The vegetables soaked up all the flavors from the stew, making them just as enjoyable as the main dish. The corn cakes were crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and perfect for dipping into the broth. The restaurant was clean and welcoming, with a unique atmosphere that made the experience feel authentic and memorable. The staff were friendly, attentive, and happy to explain the menu and recommend dishes. It's not easy to find authentic Northeastern Chinese iron pot stew in the Bay Area, so this was a pleasant surprise. Great food, generous portions, and a fun dining experience. I will definitely be back and would highly recommend it to anyone looking to try something different. read more

Super authentic Chinese food with most customers speaking Chinese so you know the food is good! I ordered a few dishes to go which super easy in person. The tables and booths have built in Hot Pot stew for you to cook your meal. I ordered a hot pork intestines and vegetable dish along with a cold beef dish with noodles. They also packed me some spicy chili oil and chop sticks. If you and a group of 4 or 5 people decide to do the iron hot pot stew, it will be enough food for sure. There were a few tables doing this and having so much fun enjoying the authentic meal. The restaurant is very clean and everything looks brand new. The staff was incredibly kind and helpful. I would definitely recommend anyone curious about an authentic Chinese restaurant to visit. I will return. 5 stars from Phish! read more

We ordered the Iron Pot Stewed Fish and had a great experience overall. The portion was very generous--around 3 pounds--and definitely filling, perfect for sharing with a group. The fish was extremely tender and well-flavored. What really stood out was that it had very, very few bones, which made it super easy and enjoyable to eat without constantly picking through. Overall, it's a hearty and satisfying dish. I would definitely come back for it! read more
