*USP: sichuan style noodle soups, dumplings, fried rice. *Ambiance: clean, contemporary and large. Service is friendly and quick as well. *Food: across the board the flavors were clean. Not a single dish was overpowering or in our face. *popcorn chicken : was different compared to other places, I felt the flavors were similar to cumin lamb. *Duans dry noodles : meatless dry noodles tossed in a spicy oil. The crunch from the few peanuts, the creaminess of the boiled egg and the heat from the spic mix along with the noodles made this absolutely delectable. *tomato noodle soup: the fried egg in this dish was surprisingly chewy, a little salt could have completely elevated the dish but it was still pretty decent. Simple flavors and nothing over complicating it. *chicken noodle soup: I think this dish represents "chicken soup for the soul". Not funky at all. I needed some heat though and threw in the chilli oil I requested as a side. *shrimp fried rice: not the fried rice of my dreams. No umami goodness. But, as with other dishes, simple no nonsense recipe.
Haven't been here for a while so I decided to come back and see if it has any menu changes. Overall it is still very similar. Their food is still as good. I got another hot noodle soup. Broth is flavorful and delicious. Their pork cutlet is really really good. Service is ok. They are attentive and are willing to help. The restaurant is a big place. It is clean and spacious. Will return.
I'm a fan ! Duan's is my Asian comfort food ! The dishes are flavorful and give the homey vibes. Like I wanna be eating this bowl of soup on my couch in a blanket. Flavorful rich broth with the perfect pair of braised soft beef with tendon and chewy noodles. Praise the braise ! The mushrooms were delicious !! We got the braised trio which complimented our soup very well for the added protein. The pork chop fried rice was soo good. Perfect amount of salt and oil. I'd be fine with just the rice itself. Crispy and cooked just right, not dry at all. Short wait on a Saturday though it looked busy. Staff was quick. Would come again
Swung by after an apartment viewing on a Saturday afternoon for an early dinner. It was busy around 5pm but after 30 minutes, it was packed! Definitely felt assured after the crowd came through. We ordered the pork chop fried rice, beef combo noodle soup, and the wonton with chili sauce. Everything came out so tasty and savory! The decor inside was also super comforting and clean. Definitely someplace I would come for a comfortable meal. 5/5 dinner! Expected to be a regular moving forward.
We had a party of 9 and were seated pretty quickly. Orders were taken quickly, chopsticks and napkins arrived shortly after, and the food right after that. Ordered #1 with handmade noodles. The broth is flavorful with a hint of heat that tickles the back of your throat. The handmade noodles had a fantastic chew to them and were cooked just right. The brisket and tendon were tender and delicious, and the waiters were very kind and efficient. We had a friend from Taiwan with us and he said the food was "legit", so that underscores the positive review! Will definitely come back when we're in town!
3.5 star Good and responsive wait service. But we felt that the speed of food delivery had slowed down. We waited longer for the food to come out, and it was puzzling especially because our orders were their popular items. We haven't been here for awhile. Since the kiddo missed their Century Egg Tofu, we return for a weekend lunch. The Century Egg and Tofu is as good as before but we only regretted that the menu had changed and they no longer offer a combo meal including an appetizer. Nevertheless, we still enjoyed the dish, and kiddo enjoyed her beef noodle stir fry. I tried their traditional flavor combo that came with a bowl of beef soup, a bowl of minced pork over rice and a plate of lettuce with sauce. It's indeed an all-time favorite that can't go wrong with my kiddie taste buds. The beef soup is just a clear broth with a few slices of beef but the meat portions are reasonable and the flavor is good as the Taiwanese cuisine likes to use ginger to wash away the bloody taste of beef. The half meat half tendon beef noodle soup came out the latest and compared to the Flaming Ox Taiwanese Noodle in San Jose, we could immediately tell the difference. I don't particularly enjoy the flavor of the Sichuan pepper, so I don't appreciate their 23 spices recipe. The tendon was cooked nicely but the beef was clearly losing to Flaming Ox as the cut was smaller and the meat much rougher. As usual, this place was packed at lunch hour, so be here before 12 is still a sound advice.
We arrived right at opening for dinner on a Saturday and already saw families flocking in, so it clearly has strong word-of-mouth appeal. The menu is extensive but not overwhelming, and everything we ordered came out surprisingly fast, keeping the energy high even as it got busy. We tried a good variety, including century egg, fried chicken, fried fish cakes, noodles, and rice dishes. I enjoyed all of them, though they leaned on the sweeter side overall, which gave the whole meal a cohesive, indulgent vibe. A Taiwanese person in our party noted that the flavors felt more like "fast food" style Taiwanese eats rather than traditional home cooking, and he found it too sweet for his taste. Still, that perspective added to the fun of sharing different takes on the food. It does get packed quickly, so plan accordingly, but the speedy service means table turnover isn't too long. Plenty of parking in the plaza makes it easy to access, especially for larger groups or families.
I thought this place was pretty standard for beef noodle soup but they don't give you as much of the protein. The soup is flavorful. We came a couple times over the years and each time the service did take some time both to order and also to receive the food. The portion of apps got a bit bigger over time which reflects the image on the menu more which is good. There's a good amount of parking as well.
This is the second time we've been here. Service is generally courteous and quick. We were looking to find good Taiwanese style beef noodle. The noodles here were decent. The braised beef was on the dry side which was a little disappointing. The tendon was great. Shrimp and egg friend rice was on point. Marinated lu Wei platter was quite yummy. The weird thing is they didn't have a bilingual menu and only offered an English menu. It was hard to decipher from English menu what we were looking for. We couldn't figure out what the conspiracy could be but not having a Chinese menu seemed shady.
This weekend was my first time dining at Duan's Kitchen, and it did NOT disappoint! We ordered the combo for 2 and it was a steal! $54 gets you 2 cold drinks of your choice, we chose Milk Tea and Four Seasons Tea, Beef Noodle soup with Shank and Tendon, Shrimp Fried Rice, Pork Chop, and Steamed Veggies. There was even another promo if you chose between downloading their app and signing up, you get another free fried pork chop. I downloaded the app but opted for the complimentary Wood Ear Mushroom salad instead for variety. The service was good, we came in when it was quite empty and within 15 minutes of sitting down, it quickly became a full house. Still, we were given pretty good service and can't complain! The vibes feel very homey and nostalgic. It feels like dining in at a close relative's place. That's also how the food makes you feel. Beef Shank and Tendon Noodle Soup w/ Handmade Noodles - 8.5/10 - Wishing it was a fattier cut of beef, and not a big fan of the tendon, but the broth and handmade noodles blew me away! Very comforting. Shrimp Fried Rice - 9/10 - My girlfriend's favorite. Even after my girlfriend told me she was full, she kept eating more and more. I also loved it. Perfect seasoning and flavor. Pork Chop - 7/10 - Very good flavor. Wish it was a little crispier though. Spicy Wontons - 6/10 - Not my favorite. I think I'll opt out for XLB next time. Steamed Veggies - 7/10 - Super flavorful. I thought it was some Chinese vegetable at first, but it was lettuce! I didn't know you can make it like that. Pickled Cucumber - 9/10 - Simple and good Wood Ear Mushroom Salad - 9.5/10 - Something about this flavor profile was so complex and yummy! Teas - 9/10 - Super comforting with our meals :) Overall, great experience! We'll be back.
Had to try the hand pulled noodles soup! The thick noodles had a chewy texture, which I loved. I opted for the shank noodle soup and it was very tender. I must say my favorite was the pork chop! It was so flavorful and mouthwatering. Would be back for the pork chop :) the restaurant interior was also comfortable and brightly lit.
Ordered door dash. Food came well packaged with broth separated from noodles - really important for noodle taste. Over all flavors is great. Beef is really tender. Enough noodles to make you full but only had 3 small pieces if the beef. I feel it could use another 1-3 pieces like in the pictures. I did like that they include veggies
Went for dinner around 6PM at Duan's Kitchen on a Saturday and there was an iPad to join quite a long queue. Luckily, a lot of folks on the waitlist no-showed, so we only waited about 10 minutes, but I can definitely see the wait time getting pretty high on weekends. Parking lot is shared with Marina Foods, so it's fairly easy to get a spot especially if you park a bit further out. Portion sizes are okay; if you're a big eater, you might want to order some sides. Tomato Beef Shank & Tendon Noodle Soup (4.25/5): This was actually better than the basic beef noodle soup in my opinion. The broth had way more depth of flavor with a bit of added sweetness and acidity from the tomato. Beef shank and tendon were both super soft and the noodles weren't quite as bouncy as I'd like, but still had a decent chew. Braised Beef Noodle Soup & Tendon (3.75/5): The broth just felt a little bland and the noodles / toppings are the same as above. Braised Dish Platter (3.75/5): The tofu is AMAZING. Super flavorful and silky texture all the way through. Unfortunately, the braised beef on the plate is pretty dry, because otherwise the oyster mushrooms are nice and chewy as well.

Perceived Value Great value for authentic Taiwanese food, especially considering the prime Cupertino location. Cleanliness & Hygiene Tables and restrooms are usually clean, which is always a good indicator of kitchen standards. Duan's Kitchen is a local Chinese restaurant chain in NorCal. I came recently with a large group of friends, and I really enjoyed the experience. The interior is nice and spacious. Very clean. The service was quick and efficient, with a preference for Chinese. The food though was delicious. I loved the flavor of the Beef Noodle Soup! The original was better than the tomato in my opinion. My boyfriend says I'm crazy for going to a beef noodle soup place and always order the pork rice dish, but I just really like it!!! We had a great time coming here for dinner. Large parking lot semi attached to the lot for Marina Foods. The restaurant itself is big and spacious with a nice open welcoming decor. The staff were all so nice. They asked right away if we needed a high chair and gave us toddler utensils. We ordered a bunch of items to share. We both thought their premade cool milk tea was really good. I suspect it's diary milk so it did upset my stomach later. Their braised egg was very flavorful. We ordered this for our picky toddler. She liked it. Their fried rice was the star of the meal I felt - cooked perfectly and packed with flavor. My toddler loved it and we saved the left overs for her the next day. My husband loves noodles - enjoyed the braised beef noodle soup - you get to select the type of noodles you want. Hence it was the last item to come out. The beef was so soft and tender. Duan's Kitchen (or Duan Chun Zhen) is one of the few places in Cupertino where you can get high quality beef noodle soup. This place is located in the Marina Foods plaza, so parking will be easy to find. Inside the interior is clean and has a warm ambiance. The staff is responsive and pretty chill, I highly recommend getting the beef noodle soup and the fried rice from this place. The beef noodle soup has a fairly light broth and isn't spicy at all. There is a decent amount of meat (wish there was a bit more) but it's very tasty. The best part of the meal though is definitely the thin noodles as they absorb the flavor of the soup really well. Definitely a good meal for its worth. The fried rice is a hidden gem of this place (especially with the pork chop). I look basic but tastes really good. It reminds me of the fried rice at ding tai fung. Duan Chun Zhen is a solid choice for Taiwanese beef noodle soup and it has my seal of approval. read more

Pretty busy on a Sunday evening, but my party of 3 was seated right away. Restaurant is spacious and clean. Service was good and food came out pretty quickly. We got the pork chop fried rice with egg, braised beef brisket noodle soup, braised beef shank noodle soup, and tomato beef shank noodle soup. The noodle soups were a mix of Taiwanese and Sichuan flavors. The broth had a small kick to it, but it wasn't overly spicy and it was very manageable (I have low spice tolerance). We were big fans of the pork chop fried rice! Good soft crisp on the pork chop, and fried rice was aromatic and light. For my braised beef brisket noodle soup, I chose the hand-made noodles. In hindsight, I should've gotten the flat noodles. The hand-made noodles were super wide and flat and had the consistency of dumpling skin. I usually like wide noodles but I think these were a bit too thick and the focus ended up being on chewing/not splashing the noodles in the broth and not on the broth/meat. I feel like these noodles absorb less broth too. The beef brisket was similar to hot pot meat. All 3 noodle soups were pretty hearty and I think they weren't too drastically different from one another. Would come back to get the flat noodles with the next noodle soup I get! read more

Came by for lunch the other day and it was a tasty experience. Called ahead for take-out and my order was ready within 10-15 minutes. Parking is plentiful in the private lot. The restaurant takes credit cards and the restaurant has been remodeled since the Vietnamese noodle shop closed down a few years ago. Dining is indoors exclusively. Started off with the beef and tendon flat noodle soup and it was tasty. The broth was very fragrant and the beef and tendons were very tender. This was packaged to perfection with the plastic container filtering the noodles and the soup. The fried pork chop over fried rice was also tasty. The fried pork chop was fragrant and fried to perfection. The spicy wontons were delicious. The wontons were fragrant in the hot sauce. The popcorn chicken didn't look as good as the oil may need to be changed. The chicken was fresh and the flavor was on point. $25/head after tax for takeout with plenty of leftovers. read more

Came here on a weekday for lunch with a friend! We both got noodle soup, I got the C3 braised beef shank noodle soup with flat noodles and my friend got C2 the braised beef trio noodle soup with shank, tendon, and tripe with flat noodles. Absolutely AMAZING! The menu says that the soup is spicy, and it's barelyyy spicy for me personally, with the absolute ever so slightest tingle. Soup was flavorful, and noodles were the perfect chewy texture, soaking up the flavor of the soup as well. The noodles were so good we ordered more noodles specifically. The meat was also perfectly cooked, tender and melt in your mouth. Also got pickled cucumber on the side, but it was smaller than we thought it would be. Service was fast and attentive. Ordered the tomato beef noodle soup with thick noodles, soup dumplings, pork chop fried rice, beef dumplings in soup, and my parents got a regular beef noodle (I think, can't recall but tasted a bit herbal). First time here. We got two combos, $54 per combo, one with handmade noodles, the other flat noodles, with the beef soup, shrimp fried rice, fried pork chop, pickled cucumbers, seasonal greens and two drinks for $54. We also ordered the spicy wontons. Per their bio, "Since 1948, Duan Chun Zhen had been selling homemade Sichuan sauces and braised dishes for a living as a Chinese immigrant in Taiwan. After she passed away, the family opened a noodle store named in memory of their grandma Duan and the aromatic Sichuan dishes she used to make for the family." I think the Flavors here are different from other Sichuan and Taiwanese restaurants. I always like trying new flavors and dishes. The family enjoyed everything and would like to come back. Noodles had a good chew. Broth had flavor. The fried pork chop had sauce so it wasn't crispy. Greens were fresh. Spicy wontons weren't overly spicy and it had toppings. Servers were nice and efficient. They brought out food quickly at 7:45 pm. There were 3 tables and they did not rush us. Small communication issues with ordering, but we all figured it out. Tables were clean. I thought the food was good, same with the service. My favorite was the pickled cucumbers. Some were great and crunchy and some were going limp. My family weren't fond of the tendons but I do. Shrimp on the fried rice was okay. After having shrimp from the gulf of Texas and Georgia, I don't really like the taste of shrimp from California. It was fun to try this place and it's good, don't get me wrong but unless someone really wanted to eat here, I would want to try another new place. read more

We went here for lunch and both got beef noodle soup - my husband got C1 with shank and tendon, and I got C2 with shank, tripe, and tendon. The broth was flavorful and very hot, the noodles were nice and thick (I got hand cut) and the meat was very tender. Our bowls were $19 each, which feels expensive to me but I think that is just how restaurant prices are these days in this area. The service was fast and the interior was clean. Unfortunately the soft serve machine was being cleaned. I would have loved to try their earl grey and matcha swirl. Just fyi the sign out front says Duan Chun Zhen, not Duan's Kitchen, and you have to go around the corner to find the entrance. read more

I found a comfort food spot in Cupertino, which specializes in braised beef noodle soup. We ordered a variety of dishes from the menu, and my top favorites were the pork chop fried rice, braised beef noodle soup, and fried popcorn chicken. You can customize the noodle type (thin, wide, or flat) and the broth's spice level. We also opted for the combo meal, which included the noodles, one side dish, and one drink. Their price is reasonable too. I was sad that they ran out of the soft serve because I had heard great things about it. Was told this was a very good beef noodle soup restaurant. But honestly, it's good but still the best for me was in Taiwan . Noodles were excellent, beef was tender, bak choy was good, unfortunately the soup base didn't rise to the level I expected. Service was okay. If the waitress knew you, she had no problem chatting it up with you while the other customer (12 inches away) got to stare at her back and buttocks while eating. Lastly, after finishing our beef noodle soup our bowls sat there for a good half hour with no waiter or waitress asking if we would want anything else or the bill . Had to get up and ask for the bill before we left. Ambiance is loud and echoing. Hard to hear the person sitting right across from you at times. Duan Chun Zhen Noodles is located where the old Cupertino TOGO's sandwich shop use to be. Sadly, the ambiance of TOGO's was far better. Parking if good but only because the adjacent Mandarin Gourmet Restaurant closed. Honestly, I would have given this 3 Stars but the Beef Noodle Soup was good so they got 4 Stars from me. read more

I've been here twice now and it hasn't disappointed! Pictured: D1 and D8 I'm always on the hunt for good beef noodle soup on par with Taiwan's and this is one of the best places I've found. I love the aromatic stock (you can really taste the spices) and the texture of the handpulled noodles are great - very chewy. Also approved by the Taiwanese parents who don't like things overly heavy or salty. I like the twist on the beef noodle soup with the Sichuan spices (since this was founded by a Chinese immigrant in Taiwan). I personally liked the Tomato Beef Noodle Soup more than the normal Beef Noodle since the sweetness from the tomatoes really adds to the flavor! One thing that I think could be better is the softness of the tendon - it could be cooked a little longer so it is easier to chew but still delicious. read more

I'm always on a quest to search for delicious beef noodle soup, so when I heard this place is quite well-known in Taiwan, we gave it a try on a Friday dinner! We ordered the Braised Peanuts (D3), Braised Beef Noodle Soup (D5), and Tomato Beef Noodle Soup (D10). Braised Peanuts (3/5): Strong braised flavor that penetrates these nuts all the way through, but such a tiny serving for 5$! Braised Beef Noodle Soup (4/5): This definitely is not your traditional soy sauce braised beef noodle soup flavor. Instead, the steaming hot broth elicits notes of savory Japanese curry kissed with a splash of floral Sichuan pepper. It's also quite greasy, embodying the meaty and fatty bovine essence that's infused within the broth. I got the thin noodles which have a nice chewy texture. Tomato Beef Noodle Soup (4/5): This one's broth exudes that beefy essence but with the added blessing of tomato and shallot acidity. It's a brightening contrast to the savory beefiness. I got the handmade noodles which are the wide and flat kind, and they had a QQ bounciness enough to launch me out of my seat! On my first few bites of the Tomato Beef Noodle Soup, there was a strong and off-putting plastic taste...not sure where it was from but it went away after desperately enduring more consumption. The interior is clean, modernized, and has very bright lights. Overall, this place is good enough that I'd come back to try the beef noodle soups with meat. read more
