Casual Taiwanese snack shop, got the five spices fried chicken cutlet and it was crunchy yet juicy. The assam milk tea is also refreshing, definitely used real tea since I felt the caffeine afterwards The shop interior is pretty clean, and it's pretty easy to order on the screen. Food came out pretty fast, although there weren't too many people inside when I ordered.

Workers don't speak English, don't understand the menu and receipt. Only Spanish speakers can get the right order. I ordered bento, soup and boba drinks. They didn't give me the soup, I showed them the receipt and they were clueless. I had to find the only mandarin speaking lady to help, it's a busy Wednesday lunch, waited for 35 minutes for my takeout and the order was incorrect.

Very cute restaurant serving Taiwanese "bento" boxes! Seriously, the inside is so cozy and clean - I would come here just to hang out with people or get some studying in, it's like a cafe almost but instead of coffee they serve taiwanese classics like fried chicken and braised beef and have a full boba shop menu. The food is pretty standard - it's pretty similar to other taiwanese spots in the bay. Everything is self serve so you go to a kiosk to place an order and then you go pick up the order. Overall a cute spot - I'd come back often! Other notes: The tables were a bit greasy but that just comes with self serve places - the water is self serve along with a utensils and condiment station. There's one unisex bathroom.

    Popcorn chicken and tempura

This review was based on a take out order via Uber Eat. Picked up at store was no problem on a Wednesday afternoon, food was nicely packaged waiting for me. Our early dinner consisted of the Wednesday special chicken leg bento, special meat sauce sausage over rice, Pop corn chicken and Taiwanese tempura. We got a lot food for the price paid. Perhaps because the food were all cold, we thought the flavors didn't quite hit the spot, some were just too sweet. Both the popcorn chicken and tempura were a little dry. The portions were generous with fresh ingredients, good value if you like the flavors.

Some of their current specials. (Plus the $9.99 Wednesday chicken leg bento!)

They have a few specials going on right now - my favorite is the $9.99 Wednesday grilled chicken leg bento... and of course I had to get in on their 4th anniversary special with their refillable boba cup (with any purchase). Pro tip: they open up the orders for the anniversary special the night before so order for next day pickup at 11pm and you should be able to get one. :) You just bring the cup back each time you place an order, show them the receipt and they refill your cup. I love that the cup has a screw-on straw cover so the boba drink can be shaken. MUCH better than the 1st anniversary milk bottle that was next to impossible to use! The grilled chicken leg was flavorful! Today's came with a spring roll, sesame tofu, garlic broccoli, cabbage, rice, and of course the grilled chicken leg. I got a full leg + an extra 1/2 thigh today - maybe because the leg was a little small? I ordered from the app while in-store and it was ready before the "promised time" though they were very busy around the lunch hour today! The woman working the front today was very polite and patient.

It's counter service. You walk into a kiosk, choose what you want, pay for them, and wait for someone to call you. Obviously, there is online equivalent to save you time. The Wednesday chicken bento is an excellent deal. I am tempted to do it every Wednesday. The chicken thigh was cook perfectly, somewhat sweetly sauced (it was said as "honey" chicken). Side dishes were well prepared and rice generously portioned. It's good for a hearty meal. I had Salmon salad on a different occasion. It was generously portioned, well prepared, nicely included with chips and croutons separately. Salmon was grilled a bit too much, still delicious. The bento box was uniquely designed, unlike other similar places using generic container. Not sure it is a plus, but somewhat eye-catching.

My go to for Taiwanese bento boxes!! If you're looking for good Taiwanese bentos at a reasonable price, orange square is a great choice. Services is really good too, the nice ladies give good recommendations and are very kind. There's several clean tables inside if you want to dine in but I usually take out. I always go on Wednesdays where they have a chicken leg special for $9.99. In this economy, that's a crazy deal! Food portions are super decent too, I often have leftovers for the next day. The side dishes change every few days so it's nice to get a variety and try different things. They have various promotions all the time so I always look forward to trying something new.

B04. Five Spices Fried Chicken Cutlet Square

We were craving some Taiwanese food on a Friday night and swung by Orange Square after having it delivered a few times at work. But this one was disappointing! Five Spices Fried Chicken Cutlet Square (2/5): The portions are generous, coming loaded with 5 lengthy strips of fried chicken! But why are they so girthy? Usually Taiwanese fried chicken is flattened to be very thin to maximize the crispiness and batter-to-meat ratio but these pieces were way too thick. Someone needs to grab the meat tenderizer and vigorously, aggressively pound these bad boys flat! The crispiness was average, maybe it had been sitting in the black plastic bento tray for a while. Five spice flavor was good but can use more salt. I do like the assortment of side dishes you get too but they could all use more seasoning and umami. Crispy King Oyster Mushrooms (4/5): These royal oyster mushrooms will be bouncing in your mouth while squirting out savory fungi liquid! Each piece is fried to a hot crispy golden brown and well-seasoned with white pepper. You can also add some spicy powder for an additional kick. Overall, would come back for the mushrooms but not the fried chicken cutlet.

I was in the area for a class, was excited to see this restaurant which I've been wanting to try! The order is done on a touch screen, I like that so I can look through the options at my leisure. I decided on the roasted pork knuckle since it's a Lunar New Year special that I never order otherwise. Also got a winter melon lemon aiyu. For getting a bento and a drink on Valentine's Day, I got a cute little balloon too. The food and drink both came out pretty quickly, and it was all tasty! They don't skimp on portion size and there were 4 different side veggies! Will definitely come back when I feel like bento boxes again!

    Fun seasonal activities!

ALWAYS GO ON WEDNESDAY FOR ORANGE DAY SPECIAL! $10 Grilled chicken bento! Yum! The chicken is pretty tasty and tender! Comes with rice and sides, sides are totally random but always includes a vegetable. This is so worth it! Also I love that they have cute seasonal activities and freebies! For Halloween if you came in costume you got a free boba! I dressed up as Chester the Cheetah because he is also orange! Annnnd it was the only costume I fit bc I was pregnant lol. Inside is kind of small there are a few tables. But it is very clean! This place is inundated with take out orders and is always busy so just fyi be prepared for a line!

S06. Golden Egg Yolk Taro Ball (5pcs)
    Hannah W.

Came to try Orange Square for dinner and enjoyed the short and simple menu, quick service, and easy dine in experience. We ordered the slow braise pork stew square, five spices fried chicken steak square, and golden egg yolk taro balls. The bentos are reasonably sized. My sister and I shared one bento and it was enough for us. The taro balls were almost like a dessert and I enjoyed them!

Here's what we got: **Sunny Side Up Matcha Einspanner $7.75: A vibrant matcha base topped with a dollop of silky whipped cream, finished with a sunny side up 'egg' where the yolk is a sweet mango syrup. This drink had me saying "Oh wow!" after taking the first sip. After the second sip, it was "Was that a really ripe mini chunk of fresh mango?" This was so well executed that it felt effortless. It wasn't overly sweet-- the Matcha and the Mango flavors blended together beautifully yet you could make out the flavors of both. I usually scoff at how expensive drinks are these days but I could justify the price on this. **Black Sesame Coffee Einspanner $7.50: Signature espresso drink with our house-made Black sesame cream with your choice of milk. Another hit. I love Black Sesame and when I can find it, I order. This was also on par with the Sunny Side up because of how distinctly flavorful it was. You can taste the nuttiness of the black sesame seeds. Add in the espresso and it makes for a coffee that you could gulp down. Both of these drinks are dangerous because if it was up to me, I could have probably drank these both in under 5 minutes. Sigh.

Molly is Chinese for jasmine anywayyyyyy (shout out to my coworker for telling me this!). I did not try my brother's tea so I cannot comment on it. I liked my jasmine tea, I can tell it was higher quality than other places I've had jasmine tea, but is it worth the hype? I don't think so. It's good, don't get me wrong, but wait-in-a-3-hour-line good? nothing is. I think I've also become desensitized to the high tea prices that $7-8 is somehow normal? When it shouldn't be! My only frame of reference nowadays is seeing how much tea cost in Asia. And in Taiwan (the birthplace of boba) I got boba for $3 ;( *sigh oh well I live in one of the most expensive places in the country but also I cannot believe I let myself think this is okay. Anyway, it's a treat, not a habit I would give into everyday.

Prior this place was unique and delicious, and really hit a spot. I believe that now with the various matcha spots around, it may not have as much as of unique selling point. Their tornado matcha is good and sweet, and is a great dessert however in my personal opinion, their traditional drinks are not standouts. Last week I went with a friend and ordered a matcha oat latte with a double shot, and while I tasted the matcha, it was grainy and didn't really have any depth. I wouldn't say I would avoid going here, for a matcha option and to get caffeinated for the day.
