Our first time having dinner here after reading an article about the owner. The restaurant is clean and neat inside with plenty of casual seating. We had the Chicken Katsu Curry and the Tonkatsu Curry along with the corn and some fries. The restaurant was busy, but our order was taken quickly and our food arrived promptly - everything was piping hot. Both curry dishes were excellent and it probably comes down to preference. I preferred the Tonkatsu, but the chicken was also very very good - crispy outside and still moist and juicy inside. They came with a generous serving of the curry sauce. The corn was also very good. It was a delicious dinner and our server was incredibly courteous and efficient, despite having to cover a lot of tables. We were impressed. This will now be on our rotation of regular favorites.
Demiya is my go-to spot in the Bay for Japanese curry. Of all the curries of the world, the Japanese variant with that slight fruity sweetness combined with its deep complex umami takes the prize for me. I frequent CoCo Ichibanya often when I'm in Tokyo and Demiya helps me fill that void when I'm back home. It also reminds me of the old Curry House restaurants we used to have, until they all mysteriously closed overnight. This shop is in a crazy busy Asian plaza. Parking is painful whenever it's time for a meal. The restaurant is clean, bright and comfortable in that cafe kinda way. The service is super friendly and efficient. Love the curry over karaage as it contains two of my major guilty pleasures. Works equally well with a cutlet of your choice though. Add a fried egg and those red little pickles and I'm in foodie heaven. I need to try their omurice offering next. Interesting to me, if you order a coffee or a chu-hi cocktail, they bring you a canned Japanese product and a glass of ice to pour it into. So they don't make their own coffee or cocktails.
Came here on a Friday afternoon very close to closing, which meant some of the items were out or they couldn't make it in time (we appreciate the staff for letting us down concise to closing time). I really wanted to try the Tegone Cheese in Hamburg Steak Curry, but that takes about 20 minutes to cook. - Chicken Karaage Curry: this was a game time decision since my first two options couldn't happen. It comes with a spicy mayo sauce on the side. There are a lot of chicken pieces and the curry is good. You can choose from regular, 1, 2, or 3 for spice level - Spicy Kinoko Butter Udon: comes with a small side salad (served in a tiny bowl that makes it difficult to eat). Definitely comes with heat (they have a non-spicy version) and lots of veggies. This is a stir-fry udon, so don't order this if you're wanting traditional hot udon with soup - Nikumaki: comes with three HUGE nikumaki that can be eaten for leftovers easily. Miscellaneous: - Parking available via a shared parking lot with other businesses (drive slowly as the drivers don't wait for you to back out of your spot and drive very fast through the lot) - Good for smaller groups (between 1-6 people) - Since we came before closing, it was quiet as we were the last guests. I could see this place being a little loud given the acoustics
Opted for some curry since the brunch place we had in mind had a lot of people. Had only heard about the location in west San Jose so I was shocked to see they had a closer location to where I was staying. We came here at 11:30am right when they opened on a Saturday and we were seated right away. The restaurant is kind of hidden in the hmart plaza. There's free parking but the lot was full and it was a bit hard to find parking on a weekday. We ordered a tonkatsu curry plate and a pork & cheese bento. The portion size was generous and comparable to curry hyuga in my opinion. The pork was crispy and juicy although a bit fatty/tough to bite into. The curry itself was aromatic and seasoned well. They had lots of menu items ranging from curry rice to udon. I really wanted to try the mentaiko cream udon so I'll have to come back to try that next time. Highly recommend coming early if you can, as it started to get packed as we were eating. Good place for Japanese curry
Lovely establishment, but this particular visit was subpar just bc I think I ordered the wrong thing. Plenty of seating indoors. Sadly the AC wasn't working so when I visited on a hot day for dinner, I was dying inside. Service was quick. I ordered the Mapo Tofu Udon and I'd give it a 2/5. The curry was super watered down. Especially bc this is a Mapo Tofu dish, I was expecting something thick and hearty, but it was way too watery. The curry flavor was also too light for me. Not only that, I guess this was on me, but the tofu and ground meat was so small that I could barely catch any with each bite. I normally love their curry rice dishes and decided to venture out but I think next time I'll stick with my usual.
Demiya is the perfect spot when you're craving curry katsu. I haven't been back to the Cupertino location in a while and was surprised and happy with the updates. We walked in on a Saturday afternoon and were seated quickly. Back then you'd have to order at the front and fight for a table but this works out so much better. Only thing to note is that parking in the plaza isn't plentiful. My go-to order is a chicken katsu curry but opted to try something new. And don't forget to order a side of their salad!
SHOCKED that I have not left a review here!! This is my go to place for curry - 2nd fave in the bay but curry hyuga always has a wait and this place doesn't. I always get the kinoko mushroom and soft tofu mix curry and I add a well done egg and sometimes pickles. Level 3 spice is delicious to me. I like that there's a lot of veg options and add ons. I've also tried their green tea beer that was good and the cheesy corn is also good!! My partner says good things about their chicken katsu. Servings are well priced ! The place is always clean and quiet ! Def recommend this place!
The place was a little difficult to find just because it did not have a big sign hanging with its name like all the other businesses next to them. But once inside you can definitely feel that this was a place that knew what they were doing, you can literally see the workers working in the kitchen cooking up some hot Japanese curry plates, taking the open kitchen concept toits heights. I just got the simple katsu and curry and rice. I love it. Just a simple curry sauce no veggies or any other toppings it was just the curry sauce, rice and katsu on top. Very simple and tasty. They also had three levels of spice. All of us wanted to see if there was anything above a level three but our waitress said that there was none but would bring some chili powder on the side that we could mix into our curry sauce. I tried the sauce without putting the seasoning in first and surprisingly had a good kick to it. But I decided to put more chili seasoning anyways because... well I like spicy. I also got the soft shell crab. Always hits the spot and it's really hard to mess up deep fried soft shell crab. My friend let me try to the hamburg croquett like thing and it was also very delicious, well seasoned and had that crispy fried exterior on the outside.
We beat the lunch rush that they normally have. My favorite is the deepfried pork with cheese curry. You have to make it spicy because the flavor is so much stronger. The meal was so good and even though it was such a hot day sweating made it taste so good. The sweetness from the sauce goes well with the cheese. It helps to cut the fattiness and the spice from the curry has a nice aromatic flavor and smell. It is such a nice combination
Came here Sunday morning with a group of four at opening time and we were seated right away. There were even other groups already seated. It's located in the same plaza as Hmart and other restaurants so there's parking, but it can get busy and hectic. There were a lot of different meat/protein/vegetable options for curry rice, curry udon and also rice dishes without the curry. I got the kinoko (mushrooms), soft tofu and spinach curry rice with a side of sunny side up egg, and a chicken karaage a la carte. There are also different spice levels (up to +3) for the curry. The portions were huge. The karaage was nicely fried and did not have too thick of a breading. It also came with a side of spicy mayo and three edamame. I don't remember there being a lemon on the side but the chicken did not feel too oily. I would definitely get this again. The curry was more liquidy than I'm used to, but was still very flavorful. My boyfriend's tonkatsu curry had a different consistency. Even as a non-vegetarian, I do appreciate there being non meat options. There is also a definite difference between each of the three spice levels, with the +2 being about the same as the "Hot" level from those curry blocks. We also got pickles, but you have to pay $1 extra for them. The restaurant has a casual feel with minimal decorations. They were playing J-pop/K-pop in the background. I would come here again if I was in the area!
Wayyyyyyyyyyyy better than the other location. Food: 4/5 Food was made fresh. Generous portion. The miso soup was salty so I couldn't finish but everything else was great. Service: 5/5 Friendly staff. Attentive and polite Ambiance: 5/5 Parking can be difficult during busy weekends. The place has many tables and great for hangouts.
This was the first time we came to this restaurant and it did not disappoint! Here were the dishes we tried: Daria - 5/5 such a yummy dish and was a recommendation from the staff! I chose the Buta (ground pork and mushrooms). It's quite a large entree and you need to be ok with waiting for at least 20 mins for the staff to make this scrumptious dish. When they brought it out there were a number of spectators wanting to know what it was and how it tasted. The quantity was quite a bit, enough for 3-4 people - definitely a bang for your buck! Chicken Katsu with curry rice - 5/5 we have had our fair share of curry rice and this one was well made! For a winter night this hits the spot for a warm and delightful comfort meal. Chicken Katsu was crunchy on the outside and tender on the inside! Staff are warm and welcoming! Ambience is small and cozy restaurant. BEWARE OF THE PARKING! For a Friday night it was chaotic given this restaurant is located in the H Mart plaza. It's worth looking for side street parking but again, that can be a gamble given how popular this plaza is.

I didn't realize Demiya opened up in this center. Signage is a bit hard to locate so had to glance at thr address and suite # a few times to make sure I had the right place. Pretty empty for lunch. Picked up a bit while we were there abd with one server probably good they weren't super busy. Our order: - chicken katsu curry rice and loved it. Curry is rich, exploding in flavor and beautiful against a large white bowl. Comes on a bed or white, brown rice or cabbage salad. - agedashi tofu was ok. A bit too sweet for my liking. My son loved the big pieces of tofu they give you plenty. - chicken Teriyaki was also ok. Took a really long time to get this about 20+ minutes so I was almost dibe eating when it came out. My son was so hungry he ended up eating most of my katsu so when this arrived he was already full. We ended up taking it home. Again sauce was a bit sweet for my taste. Only complaint is that I asked for iced tea. It was a very hot day. They told me they had none - we were dining in. I asked about japanese bottled green tea and if they could just bring me a glass of ice. Then the server said oh yeah, we can ice that tea. Kinda confusing. Isn't that still iced tea? Food is still really good. I visited them last at their Saratoga Rd location. Thst place used to get really busy. Glad they have this location as well. read more

Got the Tonkotsu Curry Rice to get a good baseline, since any respectable Japanese curry place should be able to execute this well. And it was pretty solid. Surprisingly there's not a lot of decent Japanese curry places in the bay. The spice level goes from 0-3, and 3 was at most a mild burn for spice enjoyers. Service was good, waitress was very attentive. read more
Another good curry place in the area, tho it is really hard to find this place. They don't even have a sign. My friend asked the hair salon next door since she couldn't find it. The hair salon lady doesn't even know they exist (omg!) service was good and we went on a week day , they were quite empty, only another table besides us. ( I wonder why ..maybe they should have a better sign ) food : Katsu curry rice was good. My favorite was their beef croquettes. Egg omelette was also tasty and takoyaki is ok. Recommend to give a try if you like Japanese curry. read more

The service is amazing as servers greeted and seated us as soon as we step foot into the restaurant. The restaurant is very minimal and clean, with such cute decor. Definitely will be coming back here! read more
Another lunch during a work day at Demiya. I wanted to try something new and got the curry noodles with vegetables and added tofu. The vegetables they put in there were not cut for soup (typically length wise instead of blocks so that you can pick up both the noodles and vegetables easily with chopsticks). Honestly looked like something I would make without a plan throwing things together LOL. My order took the longest to arrive and I could not eat any of it during the time we had for lunch because it was too hot. Would not get it again. Still an easy spot for lunch if you want to get curry rice. Just unfortunate there's not much vegetable options read more
Awesome Japanese restaurant!! This place showed up on my tik tok feed and I had to go! My friend and I arrived here on Sunday around 5:30 pm right when they opened their dinner hours. It's part of a plaza so there is parking but somewhat tight and compact. It's tucked in the plaza, so it takes a bit of walking to find it. We were sat immediately and the second group that they were serving. I'm glad that we got there early since it became frantic as the restaurant filled up with diners and only 1 person working the floor and everyone else in the kitchen... Great atmosphere to be with friends, family, or solo! I ordered their Menchu Katsu with curry rice and it was about a 10 minute wait until my food was served. I was very happy with the portion size and presentation. Beautiful color of the curry and plates well against the bed of white rice. The beef burgers patties were thick!! The exterior was crunchy and the insides were so filling. The curry sauce had great flavors of savory, with a hint of sweetness from either nutmeg or cinnamon. Absolutely loved it. Would definitely come here again! read more
[Food] - Tonkatsu Curry ($15.50): I got this in level 2 spice and it was perfect! Tonkatsu was crunchy, moist, and tender. Curry was flavorful and nicely spiced. Rice was fluffy as always. No complaints! This is also my fav dish to get at Demiya [Ambiance] - Definitely more spacious than the Saratoga location - They changed the "order at cashier first then grab table" to wait to being seated and having the waiter take your order instead which I prefer more so that people don't hoard seats lol [Overall] - Been to this location at least 3-4 times and was never disappointed! - Would come back again as both Saratoga and Cupertino locations are comparable in terms of food quality - I miss when they had their Japanese Breakfast which they removed from their menu already but hopefully they bring it back from time to time read more
Demiyaaaaaaa! This location is my go to now! Just went on. Saturday afternoon and let me tell you it hit the spot if you're craving for some Katsu curry! The service was great and it's clean and roomy inside! The only thing I would say is this location needs to put a sign outside so people know it's there! It took me like 10-15mins to find this location haha. It's next to the salon shop. What I recommend getting there is the: 1.) chicken or pork Katsu curry 2.) Mentaiko Cream udon 3.) SIDE OF SAUSAGE IS A MUST! read more

THE place to go to for Japanese Curry. Man I wish I had one of these just a little closer to where I live. Theres one in Dublin but thats still like 35 mins away from me...Let's be real. I'm still driving to it because it's friggin Demiya man! It always hits no matter which location you go to. This location in San Jose is me and my homies goto spot. It's always super clean and the service is always solid. The one thing I want to highlight is the Karaage. If you haven't tried the Karaage curry, you got to man. You pay a little extra than you normally would but I feel like you get a nice amount of chicken as a result. I love the sauce with. I think it's kewpie mayo. If it is or if it's a similar made sauce, im all about it. It's so nice taking bites of the curry with the chicken and then switching to the mayo to cool your mouth. I suppose you don't have to technically get it spicy...I won't judge. Just know the Karaage is bomb even on its own. It has the perfect fried texture and at the same time the inside has an ever so slight ginger/garlic taste to it. Ultimately I've never had a bad experience at any of these locations. It's crazy how consistent they are. If you haven't had a curry from Demiya, you ain't living. read more
I love the Demiya location near Mitsuwa in West San Jose, so when I saw that they were opening a new location off De Anza near Cupertino I was stoked. This place always offers great curry dishes with warm service. Typically I prefer curry udon, but the curry rice here beats out the udon IMO. It's perfect for a cold winter day. The tonkatsu and chicken karaage are delicious. Wanted to try the beef croquette and potato croquette, but both were sold out when I went! I ordered the beef shabu curry udon, which came in a large portion and with veggies + an egg on top! Very well balanced and filling, they did not skimp on the meat. The atmosphere is cozy but also so clean. Service is friendly. read more
Love this place, great food and casual atmosphere. Came in for the katsu curry, and I found it to be juicy, tender and flavorful. The curry sauce has a spicy, bold, house made deep flavor. The fluffy rice blends everything together in a flavor party. The karaage was juicy and tender. I tried doria for the first time. I never knew about this cheesy baked rice dish. It was fantastic. read more
Sad that this location stopped serving breakfast, but had to see what the dinner was about. Great value, so much food for a relatively modest price! As my experience before, service is attentive and polite. Onto the food... Great!: Doriya - super unique fusion rice gratin dish that is allegedly hard to find outside of Japan. Super delicious, every grain of rice is coated in their curry, which also is not overpowering. Very rich though, I recommend splitting it with someone. See photos for that cheese pull! Tonkatsu - the pork was a thick slab and had a beautiful light pink tinge in the center (be not afraid, that's perfection). Crispy on the outside, and the sauce it came with was definitely made in the restaurant, and is thinner than Bulldog sauce, which I find to be a plus. Good: Chicken Karaage - Chicken itself is super juicy and tastes like a it was marinated in some soy-ginger. The crust is very light, and reminds me of Popeyes chicken tenders with craggy bits hanging off the meat. Not my preferred style of Karaage breading; I would've liked a touch more crunch than crisp. It's served with some sort of shichimi togarashi aioli, which is unique compared to the typical mayonnaise and lemon. read more

A place that focuses on the curry The katsu is good. Rice is rice. But the focus is on the curry. You can tell that it is made fresh and from scratch. The flavor is excellent and a great consistency. Watch out tho, the spice they put in packs a punch. Good until the last drop read more

This place is much better than the Saratoga location. It's a restaurant locate next to H mart. Very convenient grocery shopping after food. The quality of food is spot on. We got the karaage, hamburger, and doriya. It takes 20 minutes to make but worth the wait. The server make sure all food come on time so we can all eat Goethe's. Everything is fresh and well seasoned. BIG PORTION especially the Doriya. Reasonable price and attentive service. Will definitely return! read more

Rich and flavorful Japanese comfort foods in a clean casual restaurant! We came right at dinner opening time and were immediately seated. The service was very quick. They have a variety of curry udon and curry rice dishes, with some unique specials like omurice and mentaiko cream udon as well. I like that they put the fried meat on the side so it stays crispy. The tonkatsu was delicious and tender, and we also enjoyed the soft shell crab katsu! We got ours both spicy, and it had a nice kick without being overly spicy. The dishes are huge, so I feel like it's very worth the price. The restaurant doesn't have a visible sign overhead, but it's right next to yifang in the hmart plaza. read more

Tasty food. Friendly and accommodating staff. Clean restaurant. Located in a very busy shopping complex that shares a parking lot with other businesses. This Japanese restaurant specializes in curry dishes. They have combination curry rice plates or combination curry udon. They do offer non-curry bento boxes as well if you're not a fan of Japanese curry. Came during the weekend for lunch and the restaurant was quite busy with lines forming outside by the time I left. read more

Make sure you check in at the register after you order so they know you're here and can get your food ready! My wait was 1 hr, and our visit lasted 1 1/2 hours. They only had 4 employees behind the counter; they definitely deserve a raise for handling upset customers and the amount of people there was. Would come back, it's worth the wait. The restaurant inside is nice with calm decorations. I would recommend for the owner to post around the restaurant that you should check in once you've made your online order. A lot of customers were frustrated and left after waiting about 40 minutes as they didn't check in with the employees. read more

I'm not a big fan of Japanese curry so I typically pass on it but I acknowledge that Demiya has good curry. Every friend we've come here with says this is the best Japanese curry they've had in the Bay. We have a couple of friends that visit frequently, even though Demiya always seems to forget their order- the dishes are that good. I opt more for the hamburg steaks and they are flavorful. I've still yet to try the mentaiko udon, but it hasn't been available when I go. You order via phone and pick up the food when they call it out. Unfortunately, a common issue ,you may need to anticipate, is that they can be slow and may forget your order. However, this is one of the only places I would say is worth a bit of wait. read more

Love this place! Fav curry spot! Crave once in a while. Used to go to the SJ location but the Cupertino location is much closer. A little on the pricier side if you're not used to it, but you won't be disappointed, they give huge portions and their services are always great. First time getting Gratin, it's new on the menu. I love gratin rice so I'm very surprised they offer it. Super good!! Cheesy and lots of meats Mapo curry is also super good, crab is also good but a little fishy. I'm glad it didn't give me any food allergies. Will always come back as long this location is open! read more

Great food and standard prices. I came with a party of ten and all the tables were organized for pairs so we were kind of unsure if we wanted to eat here but the staff was so nice and merged the tables together for us and they were so friendly about it. They really made sure our experience was good. The interior was well decorated in a minimalist way which was really cute and provided a great ambiance. My boyfriend got a katsu curry and I got the yasai salad and we shared so it was very yummy. Otherwise I think the curry would've been too lacking in vegetables. Makes sense but next time I would order the bento (or combination meals). That looked really good! read more
