I have not been to Lei Garden in a long while. This used to be our weekly weekend brunch spot but for some reason, we stopped coming here. Anyway, we were shopping in the area and decided to stop by for a dim sum lunch. The restaurant was not very busy so we got seated right away. We placed our order via the order sheet. No carts since it was a weekeday. We had our usual Char Siew bun (steamed), Soy sauce Chow Mein, Chinese donut rolled in soft noodles, pan fried chive dumplings, Lo Mai Kai (steamed rice in lotus leaves), stuffed peppers, and sesame balls. This is one of the few dim sum restaurants that serve the stuffed peppers. Food was generally good. I love the hot sauce they have at the table. We literally devoured it! I had forgotten how delicious the stuffed peppers were - they still taste great! Steamed Char Siew bun was a little disappointing - too much bun (bao) and not enough filling. The char siew was also rather tough and tasted rather bland. The chinese donut in steam noodles was good and the chow Mein was tasty. The rice roll was so smooth and melted in the mouth. I tried the Chu Chow-style diced pork and peanut dumplings and didn't like it as much particularly due to the texture of the dumpling skin. The veggie & pork tofu skin wrap in oyster sauce did not hit the spot as I didn't enjoy the texture of the dumpling skin as it was chewy to eat. You order on by selecting what you want on a form and the food came relatively quickly. I heard this place for a while and finally decided to bring family to have lunch over there. After seated we waited more than 10 mins until waiter showed up to take our order. We ordered 10 dishes and waiter didn't remind us that's way too much - probably he didn't care. Lei Garden is my most favorite dim sum restaurant in the South Bay. You mark your orders directly onto a paper menu (it has pictures of most items) and the dishes are prepared made to order, which means mostly everything comes out together at the same time. This restaurant doesn't have staff pushing carts around for you to choose from. Although you don't get that traditional dim sum experience with the push carts and ladies yelling out their dishes I actually like that everything is freshly prepared. You have to wait a bit longer but the dishes come out steaming hot. The ambiance is what you might expect for a busy weekend brunch. On Saturday at noon there were several families waiting ahead of us and it took 15 mins for us to get a table. I didn't mind the table wait but the wait for food took longer than I expected, maybe 20 mins or so. As for food, I recommend the sticky rice, chives & shrimp dumplings, scallop & pea shoot dumplings, deep fried taro dumplings, baked char siu buns, deep fried taro dumplings, and the deep fried glutinous dumplings with pork. For 8 small dishes the total came to approximately $80, this includes added $2.50 per person for tea. They didn't automatically include gratuity for us like others had mentioned. I personally abhor dimsum places with little to no parking, tight parking spots, and giant lines. Mother's Day weekend Saturday dinner, while a lot of restaurants are busy and full, this one still has some seatings and I could even call 30 mins before arrival to book a table for 6. We ordered half a set of banquet of 5 person with $338. Each dish was sumptuous and we even had left over after splitting them with 6 adults. Chicken with ginger sauce is a cold dish: I like the ginger sauce, flavorful. The BBQ combo dish is also a cold dish and it has seaweed, BBQ pork, roast duck and jelly fish: All are good. Walnut shrimp is decent. The XO sauce pork cheek stir-fry is flavorful. The steam fish is fresh and smooth, with silky flesh. The crab is my least favorite dish just because taking out the meat is so much trouble. The fish maw and tofu soup is ok, wish it's slightly more salty but overall loads of ingredients. For dessert, the restaurant gave us some baked buns and it's on the house. I think those are dim sum leftovers. Anyhow, we all loved the baked sesame buns. Service is a bit under-represented. For example, when the new dish was placed down, it almost swept away my plate while I was eating. I also have to ask for them to give us new plates while our own plates are piled up with bones and shells. They were also a bit slow in taking out the dirty dishes or helping us to make room for the new dishes by combining the half consumed dishes into one plate. However, when the waiter was helping us to distribute the soup to individual bowls, he paused to let me take a picture. Overall, my friends who had never visited this place enjoyed the food and wanted to revisit for dim sum. So I consider the dinner a good 4 star rating! read more

We came here with a reservation for Lunar New Years with my 95 year old grandpa. Our reservation was at 5. We did not receive our tea/hot water till 5:30. Our order was taken at 5:45 (an order of 6 different dishes). Our first dish came at 6:15. We proceeded to wait in 30 minute intervals before our next two dishes came out. By then the time is 7:10. We then waited 30 minutes before one of our last dishes (mushroom noodles) to come out. When it arrived, the noodles were so salty that we were worried for my grandpa's health!!!! Finally they gave us our $300+ bill before our last dish (FRIED RICE) came out! On top of all of that they charged an 18% service fee?! For what service?! In total of being at the restaurant from 5:00-8:00. We drank 3 different refills of tea (tea pot) and waited for 6 dishes within a 2 hour time span. The only thing this taught me was to admire how much patience my grandpa has. For my upcoming lunar new years goals, I plan to learn the patience of my 95 year old grandpa and never come back to this restaurant again! read more

We ordered some of the typical dim sum, but one thing that was unique was a red rice roll with fish filet. The wrapper was a bit on the thicker side, but I actually prefer that. The fish filet were thick enough where it didn't just fall apart. All that to say, it was yummy. Everything else was the typical dim sum goodness. We appreciate how the food all came out super hot! Some dim sum places will only serve some items hot, and some items are sometimes lukewarm or cold. The BBQ pork pastry was such a highlight for this meal! I cannot get over how good it tasted. I personally really enjoyed the milk powder flavor of the dough! We will come back for more! In general I think all the dim sum dishes we ordered were pretty good, with 腸粉 being the most memorable. I was pleasantly surprised by the various 腸粉 flavors and I liked them all. The other dishes were also quite generous. 糯米雞 might be a bit lacking in terms of the ingredients. No one would say no to a 糯米雞 filled quite generously, but this one ain't it. The bill came out to be ok, $40-50 per adult. Normal Bay Area price. Service was good, a very typical Cantonese restaurant vibe. Some waiters don't speak Cantonese, but it's totally fine. Parking was plenty around the restaurant. Location is quite convenient (there's a 99 ranch nearby). I think this would be a safe option for us, in the sense that if our non-Cantonese friends ask for a dim sum place in South Bay, we won't feel bad recommending this place to them. read more

We came here our last day in California. We got there around 11:00am and it was packed. We thought it opened at 11 but it must've opened earlier. They have a good system to check in. It was our first time going there and it was very big inside. We got a table for six and were serviced right away. It was dim sum time so we got a lot of little dishes. We got chow mein, duck, green beans, steamed pork buns, har gau, egg tarts, look fun with char siu, potstickers, dried scallop and pork sticky rice, green onion pancake, and veggie and pork bean curd. My favorites were the chow mein and the steamed pork buns. The chow mein had thin noodles and had really good flavor. The steamed pork buns had char siu in it and it had a nice sweet crispy crust on the top of it. It was a nice complement to it. All of the food was very good and we all left very stuffed.
