This place is a hidden gem! They have the BEST steamed fish filet and tofu dish. I sometimes CRAVE this dish it's so flavorful and so good. The fish is most - with the silky tofu - but they add more flavor with the ham, ginger, peppers and scallions. But that sizzling hot oil on top just enhances the fragrances which in turn makes your taste buds water!! Their pea shoots are cooked perfectly with tons of flavor, as well as their sauteed leek and dried tofu. I also love their eggplant with their special sauce. Any vegetable dish is on point here. I actually used to go to their sister restaurant in SF (Dong Bei Mama) and when they closed I was thrilled to learn that Royal Cuisine was the same and local to me! I love the variety they offer and the service is always friendly and helpful. I need to emphasize this is AUTHENTIC Chinese food so for those haters who don't like it cause it doesn't taste like Panda Express - well that's cause it's the real thing. We got: Stewed Lamb with Pickled Cabbage and Vermicelli (羊肉酸菜粉条) - The soup wasn't flavorful enough, it needed some salt and maybe even more sourness from the pickled cabbage. Dried bean curd and pork with chili pepper (尖椒干豆腐) - This is one of my dad's favorite Dongbei dishes (I've never been a fan), but he didn't like this version (something about the peppers). Third time's the charm. It took 3 times to finally try the food at Royal Cuisine, sister restaurant to Dong Bei Mama in SF. 1st Try: I was walking TT when Kelly, the owner stopped me to pet TT. She's super friendly and asked if wanted to eat outdoors at Royal Cuisine. I had just eaten but I told her I'll be back the next day for lunch. I returned the next day, only to be met with Uncle Roger look-a-like (polo shirt and everythang) who refused to sit us outside. The restaurant was completely empty. 2nd Try: I was trying to order delivery but the menu translation was off for an item I was interested in. When I called to get clarification, Uncle Roger picked up, mumbled "no English", and hung up on my ass. Sheesh, you would think I used a colander to drain cooked rice. After these two encounters, WHY bother trying again? Because I'm crazy. And, I was in the area and really craving their Steamed Fish Filet w/ tofu (had it at Dong Bei Mama). Plus, you don't go to Chinese restaurants for the service. 3rd Try: I guess Uncle Roger is no longer there or was off because when I called, the guy who answered said, we can sit outdoors. I've passed by this restaurant many times and finally decided to give it a try. The inside was only ~half full, so I was able to sit immediately. Wasn't sure what I was in the mood for, but saw the spicy fish filet dish and couldn't resist! Ordered that with a small bowl of rice. I was here for lunch as they are usually closed on Wednesdays. The service is great and the good portions are big. I ordered the chicken and my friend ordered the shrimp. It tasted great and then for dessert we ordered the sweet potato dipped in sugary syrup which you have to dip in cold water before you eat as it's very hot due to the sugary syrup. This is something very special for children in China who enjoy these as a dessert. It reminded me of giving healthy food wrapped up in cheese so that kids eat healthy . For me the soup portion looked too big so it is advisable to go when you're hungry and can eat that big bowl. They do have a lot of options on their menu such as dim sum and dumplings as well. I saw some reviews of Royal Cuisine and was intrigued. I've driven by this place so many times and I didn't even notice it was there. I honestly forget what was there before they opened! I'm sure lots of people who are headed to Ranch 99 never even glance over. I went twice before reviewing as my first experience was far from stellar. The first time I went it was just before 5:00 pm. There was nobody else eating in the restaurant. In the time I was there, only one other table was there for dine in. However, lots and lots of pickups for take-out. I ordered 5 dishes the first time, one of which was a cucumber cold dish that normally comes first. Well, after 1 hour in the restaurant I got two of the dishes (and not even the cucumber appetizer). They were so busy with to-go food that it was a chaotic scene with no organization whatsoever. I called over the waiter, asked for the bill, paid, and left without trying the remaining three dishes. The two dishes that did come - fried rice in lotus leaf and ribs in a soup, were both great. Attempt two I went with to-go food. You order online, and you get a cryptic message saying that your order is placed, but wait - it's not accepted by the restaurant yet. I placed the order at 4:15 and was told to look for an email at 4:45. Odd since they are open all the time. If they opened at 5:00, maybe that would have made sense... So, since I needed to go to Trader Joes and Ranch anyway, I dropped in. They had the order and told me it would be done in another 20 minutes. Ok. Not bad. I ran my errands, went back, and the order was ready. There were people dining in the restaurant and it seemed a little more efficient than other times. However, while I was waiting in line to pay, a man came in, couldn't get the attention of the workers, found his bag with his name on it, and left. I mean I'm all for honor system, but seems like it was odd that nobody noticed. The food that I got was all excellent. They give a large amount of food for a very reasonable price. Before people bash me on that comment, yes, Cupertino Price. I know if you go to a small village in Northern China you can get it cheaper and it will be tastier. For Cupertino, however, it's pretty cheap and really tasty. I would say that you should give this place a try for North Eastern Chinese food. The Chinese Steamed Roll was huge bigger than my fist, tasted good, I love soft bread. Fish filet with tofu had plenty of flavor and wasn't too spicy for me. Smoked duck was delicious not oily. Royal Food felt more like mediocre food when coming. After being seated promptly for dinner, I took a look at their extensive menu and decided to get some classic items. - Beef noodle soup. I don't recommend getting the beef noodle soup here. The soup was lackluster and less flavorful than at other places and the noodles didn't feel as fresh or homemade. The pieces of beef were tender though. - Sauteed spinach with garlic. They gave a good portion of spinach, which I did appreciate. The garlic flavor was certainly there. It didn't necessarily "wow" me given that it's just spinach and garlic. - Fried fish with chili. The fish was perfectly crisp on the outside and came out piping hot. They gave a good portion and this was probably the best dish out of the three I tried. It was a bit on the oilier side, but overall, was good. Service struggled during my visit. Although it didn't take long to be seated and to place the food order, it did take quite a long time for someone to come and check the table out. It felt like my table was neglected until flagging someone. Not bad but not amazing. I would give it a standard, middle review and recommend other Chinese spots. read more

There's a hearty sized menu, with lots of different choices, though the prices are slightly higher than other Chinese places in the area. The seating here is also a bit limited, so only a handful of tables that are generally very cramped feeling. It felt like they were going from an upscale feeling (covered chairs, nice decor, etc), but didn't quite make it IMO. The food was great, but as mentioned, a bit more expensive for the same dishes you could get at other Chinese restaurants. The chow mein with meat and veggies was a good portion size for the price. The other dishes we got were all fine, but nothing stood out to me about them. Service was so-so. It felt like they were trying to provide good service, but I also saw a waiter try to seat someone, dropped some menus off a table and then disappeared into the kitchen without looking back, leaving the patrons to wonder if they were supposed to sit at the table or not. The seating was also super cramped, so if another customer is obnoxious about sitting with their seat very far back, it'll hit your seat for sure. This place is amazing! Recently moved to Cupertino and tried out this place because of the banquet style interior aesthetics and the dishes looked quite impressive. They offer specialties from different regions as well as some of the basics. My mom, my bf, and I shared three dishes: the fried lamp chops with cumin, fish fillet with tofu, and sautéed cabbage in chili. All were absolutely delicious, filled with authentic spices and textures. The cabbage is a perfect balance of sour and spicy. The lamp chops were so aromatic, crisp on the outside and juicy when you bite into them. The steamed fish and tofu + the sauce were soft and delightful with rice. Some of the awful reviews about the taste must be from people who can't appreciate authentic flavors and were hoping for Panda Express like items but as Taiwanese/Chinese Americans, my family and I think this place is bomb . Excellent dinner ordered through GrubHub - each dish was prepared with fresh and flavorful ingredients and seasoned just right with little or no hint of MSG. The Szechuan Dry Sautéed Stringbeans was a highlight of tonight's meal prepared without spicy chilies per my request - such a nice crunch, and not overcooked with a wonderful black bean, green onion and garlic soy sauce. Quarantine Eats #61: Flavorful stir fried dishes even after an extended period of shelter-in-place! Ordered takeout from here for a Saturday dinner, and the pickup process was uneventful. The griddle-cooked spicy cabbage was quite spicy, however the chili oil which was stir fried was very fragrant. The sizzling platter fried beef steak had a milder taste, and the large presence of onions within the dish was very welcoming. Finally, the stewed spare ribs with french bean (pai gu si ji dou) helped balance out the heat from the cabbage, providing a warm and rich flavor to the meal. About 3.5 star. It was quite crowded during dinner time and it seemed they were short staffed with only 2 men doing order taking, hosting, busing and billing. Most of the tables ordered the thick sesame pancake and Xinjiang chicken. The chicken is quite big in portion and has good amount of noodle underneath. The dish has good spices and it's spicy. So my only complaint is that the menu says not spicy but it came out spicy. We also tried Xiao Long Bao, came with 8 in one steam basket. The wrapping was too thick for my liking but tasted good for kids. The fillings inside is sweeter than others we tried and flavor is lighter. Also ordered the tofu steam fish. It's a steam dish with tofu at the bottom and fish fillet on top. Can't say the fish is ultra fresh but there's lots of ginger, green onions and cilantro on top. Not bad.
