G02. Sizzling Lamb with Cumin Platter
Nadine S.

Grandma approved! Server was lovely and attended to us promptly with such a smile. We felt cared for the entire visit. The place was clean and organized. We ordered the pea shoots, cumin lamb, and steamed flounder. Everything was fresh, bright in flavor, and super tasty! Very high quality eats for such reasonable prices. Will be back to try much more of the menu :)

C1 Steamed Fish Fillet w/ tofu | $17.95 (GET THIS!)

Third time's the charm. It took 3 times to finally try the food at Royal Cuisine, sister restaurant to Dong Bei Mama in SF. 1st Try: I was walking TT when Kelly, the owner stopped me to pet TT. She's super friendly and asked if wanted to eat outdoors at Royal Cuisine. I had just eaten but I told her I'll be back the next day for lunch. I returned the next day, only to be met with Uncle Roger look-a-like (polo shirt and everythang) who refused to sit us outside. The restaurant was completely empty. 2nd Try: I was trying to order delivery but the menu translation was off for an item I was interested in. When I called to get clarification, Uncle Roger picked up, mumbled "no English", and hung up on my ass. Sheesh, you would think I used a colander to drain cooked rice. After these two encounters, WHY bother trying again? Because I'm crazy. And, I was in the area and really craving their Steamed Fish Filet w/ tofu (had it at Dong Bei Mama). Plus, you don't go to Chinese restaurants for the service. 3rd Try: I guess Uncle Roger is no longer there or was off because when I called, the guy who answered said, we can sit outdoors. Royal Cuisine is open for takeout, delivery (on all the American & Chinese platforms), indoor dining, and outdoor dining (4 tables). With restrictions fully lifted, staff still wears masks. M E N U Mix of Sichuan and Northeast Chinese cuisine. The menu can seem daunting to a first timer but the pictures help. There's a section of their "Signature Dishes" that you can't go wrong with. Super affordable prices AND generous portions. Legit had food enough for four people and the bill was less than $40 before tip! F O O D * K9 Smoked Duck (Half-$15.95): https://bit.ly/3hmhtlc Shiny, crispy skin, nicely rendered and not overly fatty. The duck meat was tender with a pink hue from the smoking process. Some pieces were a little dry but you can't beat that price. * C1 Steamed Fish Filet w/ tofu ($17.95): https://bit.ly/3hncl02 When it comes to fish, I prefer sashimi but I love this dish so much! A huge slab of soft, silken tofu topped with moist and flaky white fish filets...swimming in the most delicious sweet soy sauce. It's then garnished with ham, ginger, red peppers, scallions, and cilantro...and topped off with sizzling hot oil to release all those aromatic fragrances. Light, simple, healthy, and so yummy with steamed rice. * N8 Rice (bowl - $1.25) Properly cooked and a heaping portion for the price. Enough for two people. S E R V I C E Lone server was all business. Promptly takes order, delivers it, no check-ins. He's by himself so don't be shy about asking for things. A M B I A N C E Retro fancy with large gold-linen round tables, burgundy draped chairs, and an opulent chandelier. Outdoor seating in front is enclosed from foot traffic. P A R K I N G Easy parking in the 99 Ranch/CVS plaza. Overall, same solid Northern Chinese food as their sister restaurant, Dong Bei Mama. There's a bunch of other items I want to try so hopefully, Uncle Roger is not there next time...or, in a better mood. Ooof.

Spicy fish filet and rice

I've passed by this restaurant many times and finally decided to give it a try. The inside was only ~half full, so I was able to sit immediately. Wasn't sure what I was in the mood for, but saw the spicy fish filet dish and couldn't resist! Ordered that with a small bowl of rice. Food came out pretty quickly, and the fish was perfectly tender and flaky. I was a little disappointed at the sauce, as it wasn't as spicy as I'm used to in other restaurants. It's still tasty, just not to my expectation. Will come back to try other dishes!

It was 4 pm and we were looking for dim sum in the area after finishing up with Home Depot. This restaurant came up but their dim sum menu is limited and also not your standard Southern China dim sum (more like northern style). It was all good because the dishes we chose were tasty and came out quickly. And it was colorful and visually pleasing as well. Good options for vegetarian and pescatarians. We had the honey walnut shrimp and leek and dried tofu.

We really enjoyed all the dishes we got the other night and thought about coming back the next day! It was that good! Service was really friendly too. We went Sunday night and it wasn't too busy and the one and only waiter was very patient making recommendation since it was our first time there. Can't wait to be back and try other dishes.

I was here for lunch as they are usually closed on Wednesdays. The service is great and the good portions are big. I ordered the chicken and my friend ordered the shrimp. It tasted great and then for dessert we ordered the sweet potato dipped in sugary syrup which you have to dip in cold water before you eat as it's very hot due to the sugary syrup. This is something very special for children in China who enjoy these as a dessert. It reminded me of giving healthy food wrapped up in cheese so that kids eat healthy . For me the soup portion looked too big so it is advisable to go when you're hungry and can eat that big bowl. They do have a lot of options on their menu such as dim sum and dumplings as well. I will say give it a try and you will love to visit here. Make sure it's not on a Wednesday as they are closed for business. The ambience is great and looks more like a fine dining place.

I saw some reviews of Royal Cuisine and was intrigued. I've driven by this place so many times and I didn't even notice it was there. I honestly forget what was there before they opened! I'm sure lots of people who are headed to Ranch 99 never even glance over. I went twice before reviewing as my first experience was far from stellar. The first time I went it was just before 5:00 pm. There was nobody else eating in the restaurant. In the time I was there, only one other table was there for dine in. However, lots and lots of pickups for take-out. I ordered 5 dishes the first time, one of which was a cucumber cold dish that normally comes first. Well, after 1 hour in the restaurant I got two of the dishes (and not even the cucumber appetizer). They were so busy with to-go food that it was a chaotic scene with no organization whatsoever. I called over the waiter, asked for the bill, paid, and left without trying the remaining three dishes. The two dishes that did come - fried rice in lotus leaf and ribs in a soup, were both great. Attempt two I went with to-go food. You order online, and you get a cryptic message saying that your order is placed, but wait - it's not accepted by the restaurant yet. I placed the order at 4:15 and was told to look for an email at 4:45. Odd since they are open all the time. If they opened at 5:00, maybe that would have made sense... So, since I needed to go to Trader Joes and Ranch anyway, I dropped in. They had the order and told me it would be done in another 20 minutes. Ok. Not bad. I ran my errands, went back, and the order was ready. There were people dining in the restaurant and it seemed a little more efficient than other times. However, while I was waiting in line to pay, a man came in, couldn't get the attention of the workers, found his bag with his name on it, and left. I mean I'm all for honor system, but seems like it was odd that nobody noticed. The food that I got was all excellent. They give a large amount of food for a very reasonable price. Before people bash me on that comment, yes, Cupertino Price. I know if you go to a small village in Northern China you can get it cheaper and it will be tastier. For Cupertino, however, it's pretty cheap and really tasty. I would say that you should give this place a try for North Eastern Chinese food. Just accept that the service may be lacking and enjoy the food.

We came in at 2 pm on a Sunday. The restaurant was busy but got seated right away. Lots of parking, The dishes are excellent. The menu offers a variety of choices. The waitress is knowledgable and attentive.

I tried: Steamed fish with tofu- very tasty, light, and fragrant dish. I do think Grandma's Kitchen does a better version though as they add egg, and the fish here had a slightly fishy taste to it. Smoked duck- loved this. Crispy skin, wonderfully smoky. I'd get this again. Will try more dishes later and update!

酸菜羊肉粉絲湯 sour cabbage lamb soup with noodles. Not good.

We went there again and this time we brought wine. They charge corkage $6 but they also help open the wine and bring us glasses. (+1 star!) Their dessert with rice wine and dumpling balls are wonderful. You will get black sesame, strawberry filling or mango filling. Amazingly light and tasty. I was with some guest otherwise I would take tons of pictures. I order the eggplant potato and red peppers. That is still the best dish. You can find it any where else. 5/5 Sizzling beef was ok. My European friends loves it. 4/5 Hot and sour soup was not spicy at all. Tasted ok. 3/5 Veggie steam dumplings was not steamed through. Some dough are not cooked. 2.5/5 Pot stickers was good. 4.5/5 Steamed fish with tofu ok. 4/5 Seafood hot pot was bland. Portion was exceptionally large. 3/5. There was a wait at 7pm on Sunday. Make reservations if you come at peak times!

There was no line for us to be seated. I was able to flag down a server to seat us since they seem to be extremely busy cleaning tables and servicing others. The hotpots are full of ingredients and the broth has always been tasty. Unfortunately, the meats seem to be overcooked. Prices have been going up over the years where only the monthly special is enticing for the value. Servers were friendly and checked in on us, but it took 25 minutes for our food to show up at our table after we ordered. The only consistent experience I've had are the oranges at the end of the meal. They are always amazingly sweet, juicy, and comes off the peel easily. I don't usually enjoy oranges, but I love the ones HomeEat offers! Will be back if in the area, but hope kitchen service will be quicker in the future.

The yellow braised chicken over rice is a traditional northern Chinese dish originated in Shandong province. Surprisingly, the normal Dan Dan noodles ("special sesame dry noodle") were quite bad. The beef and tendon noodle soup is not bad, decent for when I was sick. There is a "beef and tendon noodle soup" as well as a "beef only noodle soup" on the menu - you might think the beef only one would be better value and have more meat, I ordered both to see the difference - even though the meat only one does have more meat, the meat is more tough and very hard to chew. Please tell me how the pancake look brown and crispy on the outside and still comes out cold and not crispy at all. My nephew even said they weren't crispy and he's 3. The lady told us that the sauce on the inside was salty and that's why they don't give extra and man was she right. 1/5* The beef noodles soup itself flavor wise was good and portion wise it was good for $21, but my noodles had no chew to them at all. I was attempting to pick them up with chopsticks and they would just break into pieces. They do give a decent amount of beef though in this. 2.5/5* for the flavor but don't expect much from the noodles. Same thing went for the works, it was a peanut buttery sauce that the lady claimed wasn't spicy, but my parents noticed that it had a kick to it even though they asked for it not to be spicy. The egg is a nice touch but not too sure if it's worth the price. Noodle consistency was the same as the beef noodle soup. 2.5/5*

It is a bit of a dumpy place right next to a gas station, across from an empty strip mall shop area! We weren't even sure the restaurant was open when we got here. We were asked to pick any table - mostly booths. There's a QR code to scan and place your order. After peruse quite an array of items we picked the ma po tofu and the beef with onions. Service was minimal- we weren't even sure presented with 2 cups and a carafe of water to start. Our order arrived and we got a complimentary seaweed miso soup. Soup was quite good with real seaweed - not the dehydrated stuff in some Japanese restaurants. Surprisingly the food was delicious! The ma po tofu was very authentic. There's schezwan peppers or Mala in it but it was not overpowering that it numbs your tastebuds! The tofu was soft and silky. The beef had good flavor and balanced the meal out. Beef was tender. Overall we enjoyed our meal. Will definitely come back to try other dishes on the menu If you're not familiar with traditional Chinese entrees the menu can be quite daunting and a turn off. This used to be a different Sichuan dry pot restaurant that was so so and I really haven't gone back since the new one opened up. The name is also really misleading because many Taiwanese restaurant use Grandma as the name. As a foodie this restaurant is legit. It's in a small plaza shared with another Taiwanese restaurant so parking can be difficult but there are plenty of street parking right next to the restaurant. The interior is clean and well organized. The service is prompt and good enough. They ask for reviews but didn't promise some freebie for a semi fake 5 star review which is great. I never leave a good review just for a freebie because my integrity is way more expensive than freebies. The food is phenomenal and authentic in every way. The frogs are tender and the spices are not overwhelming and brings out the flavor of the frog meat just right. The cured pork (pig face meat) is very rare in the states. It's also cured properly to give the authentic hunan flavor. They also mix it with raddish slices which is also rare in most Chinese restaurants here in the states. Even the conch with bamboo shots surprised me in how thin the slices of the conches are. It's also flavored without being too spicy nor too salty. Everything is on point. I do wish they used better white rice but that alone is not enough for me to take off any stars. This is just a wonderful restaurant that's on par with my favorite hunan restaurant in San Gabriel and I'm so glad I found it because I'm sure going to go back every week now.
