First time at Fu Niu Tang Noodle Talk and I definitely got a bit of sticker shock when I first saw the menu. Most entrées run close to $30, with fish dishes mostly above $40. Luckily, the noodle soups are much more affordable at about $16 each, so we went with the Beef Stew Noodle Soup and the Hot & Sour Lamb Roll Noodle Soup, plus one order of 辣子鸡 (deep-fried chicken with peppers and peanuts). The noodle soups were both solid. The beef stew had very tender meat, while the lamb soup had a noticeable lamb flavor that might be a little strong for some. As for the deep fried chicken, the portion felt a bit small for the price, and I really wish the peanuts are more crunchy. Regular spicy was just perfect for our family. Stopped by Noodle Talk on a Sunday around noon and was pleasantly surprised by how well they handle the lunch rush. The place was packed (clearly a popular spot in the area!), but we didn't have to wait long to be seated. Parking in the mall was pretty straightforward too, which is always a plus.The food portions are definitely above average - you get your money's worth here. Just a heads up: this is authentic Hunan cuisine, so the dishes can pack some heat! If you're not great with spicy food like me, definitely go with the mild spicy option. They were accommodating with spice levels.The interior has a nice, decent ambiance that makes for a comfortable dining experience. What really impressed me was how fast the service was, even with a full house. The staff kept things moving efficiently without making you feel rushed.Props to the restaurant owner for running such a smooth operation. Very solid food for the price! We got the Marbled Beef In Golden Noodle Soup (with extra noodles on the side) and the stir-fried spicy lamb. I absolutely loved the noodles--lots of other goodies swimming in the light broth, including tomatoes, a solid amount of beef, wood ear mushrooms, cilantro, etc. We ordered the extra noodles which was basically enough for another meal :o The lamb dish was quite numbing-spicy, but paired with rice (and enough iced water to cool off your mouth), it's so, so delicious. Paying the tab will be mobile, too. AMBIANCE The restaurant's interior is well-lit and has plenty of wooden-style dining tables, including family-style round tables for larger parties. There are cute seat pads on the chair to make it more comfortable. FOOD We craved certain items, so we didn't order popular Hunan-style items like many recommended. We should have, but that'll be for another visit back. * Green Onion Pancakes -- I had better. Really fun and enjoyable experience! Paid $56 (including tip) for four people for a large beef stew, small beef tendon soup, and beef stirfry soup! I loved the side dishes that they offered-- peanuts and pickled vegetables, it was delicious and paired well with the noodles as well as an appetizer. The beef tendons were pretty soft and I wish that the soup had more textures besides soft noodles and soft meat! The cilantro paired well with all the noodle dishes and the spicy beef stir fry is very spicy. The brisket is super chewy and delicious which was great-- but more variation in textures would be nice! Round 2! First time had family style and it was just okay, nothing crazy that would bring me back but this time we had as the name of the establishment would have it, noodles! I wasn't too sure about this place when our group decided to go here for lunch, but I'm so glad they chose this place. They had a QR code on our table so we could each look at the menu and order directly from our phones. Note that once you add in your order, it immediately gets submitted on the spot. Also, make sure you check your order carefully because you can't edit/remove it once you submit. You'd probably have to talk to a server to let them know if you want to make any changes. I didn't know what to get so I thought I could share with my bf since I typically don't eat that much anyways. He ordered a small "beef shank, sour beans, peanuts, pepper stir-fry rice noodle" (衡阳牛肉卤粉). It was actually a small portion though, and I don't necessarily mean that in a bad way but in a "I could eat this in one sitting and be full but not overly full and bloated" kind of way. If you have a bigger appetite though, it's better to go with a large which is only a couple dollars more. The dish was absolutely fantastic though. The noodles were soft and flavor was A-1. Both my bf and I were still a little hungry after splitting, so we decided to order it again; this time a large :D so I think a small would have been the perfect size for me and a large would have been the perfect size for him. We also ordered deep fried buns for the table. These things were just absolute perfection. Crispy on the outside and incredibly warm and fluffy on the inside, and the condensed milk on the side...*cries* I'll be dreaming about this forever. I'm ready to go back for this. When our table was ready, we walked in and I was impressed with the great lighting and decor. Our table was nicely set up and they give free peanuts + a spicy pickley cabbage on every table. They were pretty tasty :D To order, you scan a little QR code on the table and you pay via phone. They have a small handful of vegetarian options. My partner and I split a green pepper and egg stir-fry with noodle and I loved every bite of it! The stir-fried eggs + green pepper are sitting on top of the noodles so you will have to mix it up a bit. I have a pretty high spice tolerance and this actually got me sweating a bit lol but I really enjoyed the amount of heat and savoriness this dish packed. The noodles also had a bit of a chewiness to them, which I absolutely enjoyed! Also, shoutout to the staff members - They came all the way over to the boba shop next door to get us (lol), helped us take a group picture, and kindly provided us an itemized receipt upon request so we could calculate our payments to each other. The interior of very modern and well lit and decorated. I felt the aisle tables against the walls were very close together that it was hard to scoot in and out of your chair without feeling like you're disrupting the patrons behind you. Everything is ordered through the phone, so you don't feel pressured to order something right away if you're indecisive like me. While this alleviated that, it was hard to flag someone down if you needed something like extra utensils, bowls, water refill or napkin. But service was quick to bring out food out and to fill waters IF they're already doing rounds. The spicy beef shank noodle soup was numbing spicy and didn't really have "flavor" besides heat flavor. Once it cooled down, it was oily and tasted like the soup was just mixed heavily with satay oil. I thought given the name of the restaurant, the noodles were going to be bouncy or hand pulled but it was just regular vermicelli noodles, which I felt was very underwhelming and simple for what was supposed to be a "star" dish. The beef and vegetable stir fry noodle was good compared to the noodle soup, but I felt the dish was very oily, despite requesting for less oil. My favorite dish from what we ordered was the dry cooked green beans. They had a nice crunch to it. I felt pressured to tip at the end right at the moment when they were closing our tab. Normally, they would hand the check and place it at the table, give change and then walk away for you to tip. One of the best rice noodle spots I've found in the South Bay, and solid/fast service, they're very friendly. The pickled veggie and fish noodle soup is still my favorite. Love that they size the fish pieces really beautifully with a bit of skin. The noodle is not mixed well, the noodles itself is bland and just topped with fried eggs and pepper and red chili. I wouldn't call it stir fried. You can see the flavor just by looking at it - rich in flavor and in color! There's something about umami-packed rice that some places just do so well. I really liked the green onion pancake too, and how it was a thicker, more risen pancake than what you may get at a hong kong style cafe. SKIP NEXT TIME I had to pass on the seafood skewers - I'm okay with a little spice but I'm not built for all those red peppers on top lol! Mixed reviews on this dish - the seafood was chewy, and the taste was all spice and not the meat itself. The Chicken and vegetable stir-fry with noodle was alright, but nothing special. I was initially skeptical since I saw that this place had 3.5 stars, but then my friend said he really liked it so then we came in. Good: The service is really quick and the ordering process is fun - you can checkout on your phone with your friends all ordering from their phones so the process is also pretty streamlined. I really liked the spicy beef tendon bowl! It was at first not something I was super excited for, but then I was really a fan of the broth and the noodles and found that it was just the thing to hit the spot after playing tennis. Good portion sizes too. You also get a complimentary bowl of peanuts and spicy cabbage which was a good taste bud opener. I ordered their beef shank noodle soup (large) since I wanted to split with my mom. My food was ready in less than 3 minutes of me ordering lol. They separated the broth from the rest of the food so the noodle still tasted fresh when we put them together. The amount of noodle and meat was more than I expected. Maybe my standard is low, but I guess I'm just used to restaurants skimping on the meat...~$17 for a large bowl was enough to make 2 people feel bloated. If I recall correctly, the beef shank noodle soup was supposed be spicy, but I didn't think it was spicy at all. The broth itself wasn't flavorful and tasted a bit bland, so make sure you mix it evenly with the dry half. My mom's half of the noodle was apparently very salty while my half was a bit tasteless. The beef shank was just alright, it was a bit rough (overcooked maybe), but the rice noodle was great. Oh, and they had a mung bean smoothie bogo sign by the cashier (in Chinese) when I was there. During the pandemic: opened up the web site, and checked out the Grubhub menu. Looked at Yelp and ordered by phone Wednesday at 430pm the 2 most popular dishes: A14 $15.99 Large stir fried beef with chili pepper noodles A4 $14.99 Large spicy & sour soup with chicken offals The person answering on the phone definitely had trouble understanding English. He did understand A14 and A4, the Grubhub menu listings. Last thing I want is a misunderstanding over the phone and a screwed up phone order. By ordering directly I ensure that the restaurant gets all the money, whereas using Grubhub even for takeout, takes a minimum of 15% commission off the top. Read that cash only for orders under $30. Person on phone reads back the order, and says ready in 5 minutes! If I had known it would take that short a time, I would have ordered the dish right on the spot. 10 minute walk to the store, and nobody waiting. No outside dining, pickup only. My pickup order is ready on the spot. Hole in the wall on the strip mall, across from Wok On Express, Tacos Jalapa, Peete's Coffee, Habit Burger, and Boudin's. Take the dishes home in heavy duty plastic containers with sturdy lids, and dig in. The beef dish is absolutely delicious, with the beef tender, with spicy green beans in sea of perfectly cooked rice noodles. Huge portion size of noodles, even without extra noodles. Perhaps a bit on the soft side, but that's the norm for take out food. The chicken dish has pieces of cooked chicken organs on the tough side, and more pieces of sour green beans, peanuts, and a few tofu. Would prefer more tofu, and next time would order the dish with bits of pork or beef. The soup is very subtle, with very little taste when the chicken broth flavor should be more pronounced. Noodle dishes are very pricey, considering you can add an extensive list of added ingredients, each at extra cost. I ordered extra noodles at $2.99 each. No dine in, but the sign saying "Smile You are on Camera" is still there. Practically the only sign in English in the restaurant. The noodle bowl swelled with A-Choy and spicy beef (good portion!), making it hard to mix all the food together. The spicy beef was too salty for me, although I'm sure it would taste better and even enhance the flavor once mixed into the noodle bowl.
