I'm a little surprised to see that this place is closed now. This review is for a visit a few months back. This is located in a strip mall with a lot of restaurants, a sprouts, and a trader joes. You're never going to have trouble finding parking. I had the blackened catfish po boy and my partner had the pan roast. I really liked my sandwich and the fries were nice too. My partner helped me eat half the sandwich, the portions are huge! The pan roast tasted good, I liked the spices, very flavorful. It was however a little too spicy for my partner. The staff let us know that this batch was a little spicier than most batches. I thought the spice level was fine though. I think they kept a lot of the interior from the restaurant that came before them. A little sad that they're gone now though. read more

Second time here at The Dive Oyster Bar. We has such a good experience the last time we were here so we definatly had to come back again. Service is always great. Our server Ruben gave amazing customer service and good menu suggestions too. Came in on a Friday night and it was a bit slow but then it sarted to pick up with dinners coming in. We had reviewed the menu in advance and decided to come specifically for their house specialty pan roast entrée -- but they were already out of it. At 6PM?! A bit disappointing. We opted instead for the cioppino, popcorn crawfish, and loaded fries. The cioppino was flavorful but runny and lacked that rich, hearty consistency you'd expect. The popcorn crawfish and fries were tasty but definitely on the heavier, fried side. Went for lunch with my family, and really enjoyed it! Parking lot has plenty of parking stalls, but the lot gets really busy because there are many other businesses in the same plaza. Service was great. Super friendly staff. Everyone was helpful. The place is new, so very nice and clean. Love the modern feel and open space. I can't begin to imagine the wait when it gets really busy because it's on the smaller side. We started off with the truffle fies. Unfortunately, they taste like regular fries. The truffle taste was faint or not even there. Clam chowder texture was great, but it was to herb-y for my liking. Shrimp and grits were okay. I like my grits smoother and creamier. We came in pretty early, so we only had intentions of grabbing an oyster "snack" lol and some clam chowder. The oysters were fresh and plump! The ambiance felt a bit flat, maybe music or TV would help with the overall vibes. Furthermore, the food left my mom very disappointed. At almost $40, the lobster roll she ordered only got two dry claw meat. She was disappointed as lobster meat is the best from their bodies, not their claws. (We were able to return them). We also ordered soft shell crabs as appz, but the presentation of it on the tray left us little to desired, and it was very oily (and the oil tasted old). My husband and I decided to try The Dive Oyster Bar for one of our first dinners in San Jose. Overall, we had a really solid experience. I ordered the Shrimp Louie Salad, which was generously portioned and had a good amount of shrimp. We also shared the Brussel sprouts, which were nicely roasted and packed with flavor. I liked the added flavors of feta cheese and red onion. My husband had the clam chowder in a bread bowl, which was one of the standout dishes of the night. It was creamy and well-seasoned. He also went with the fish and chips, and while not groundbreaking, they were crispy, well-cooked, and hit the spot. The only letdown for us were the oysters. I absolutely love The Dive Oyster Bar. It's the only place in the Bay Area that I know of that serves pan roast. I was first introduced to pan roast way back in the day at Ritter's Steam Kettle Kitchen in Santa Ana. Sadly, Ritter's Steam Kettle Kitchen closed down. But there were other pan roast restaurants in Southern California and Vegas that were equally good. I moved back to San Jose a few years ago and missed eating pan roast so much that I would travel to Southern California just to eat it. I have tried so many different items at The Dive Oyster Bar including the popcorn crawfish, cajun truffle fries, tangy buffalo chicken wings, pan roast and the s'mores bread pudding. Everything is absolutely delicious. All of the appetizers are very filling and they help you get a good start on your meal. I mainly come to the restaurant to eat the pan roast because that dish is so delicious. I usually just get the chicken and sausage pan roast and it's loaded with lots of chicken and sausage. So much flavor. It's creamy, spicy, lots of tomato flavor and feels so comforting. Service is top notch and the staff is always checking up on my friends and I every time we dine there. We ordered the food via DoorDash and everything arrived hot, which was good. The Dasher was there a while and constantly texted me to let me know they were still waiting, so I tipped them a little extra because I felt bad that they had to wait so long. But I am thankful it all arrived hot. If I was eating this just based on the clam chowder it would be 5 stars. But the rest of the order kind of bombed, unfortunately. We ordered a couple of different items, so we could try a few things. Clam chowder - (5/5) A bowl is a good amount. The chowder is creamy and the clams were really fresh. They weren't chewy at all. A lot of clam chowders are a bit too rich for me. While this was rich, it wasn't overwhelming. I thought it was just right. We actually ordered this a second time. The first time we had the fish and chips, but subbed the clam chowder for the fries (this is the way to go). The second time we ordered it as a side. Fish and chips - (4/5) The fish was cooked well. It was nice and flaky, and fresh tasting. The crust wasn't that flavorful, but it worked and it was nice and crispy. The first time we ordered this we also ordered (and paid for) a second side of remoulade. They didn't send either one. The second time we ordered this we did the same. They only sent one. So, both times we paid for an extra side that we never received. The fries were a big no for us. They supposedly had a Cajun seasoning on them, which you really couldn't even taste. And they were cold and soggy, yet the fish was hot and crispy. Seems to me they were left to sit while the rest of the order was finished. The rest of the food... Grilled cheese and pan roast - (-5/5) They set the grilled cheese in the box with the burnt side down, so that wasn't the first thing you saw. The cheese tasted like the Lucerne shredded mixed cheese you get in the store...flavorless. The cheese also wasn't melted all the way, so you could still see the shreds, yet somehow they burnt one side of the toast. The toast was ok, maybe a little thick for the lackluster amount of cheese they added. The pan roast was like a thick, tomato-y, kind of Cajun glop. There is supposedly a "trinity" of veggies in this, but do they puree them? Because there wasn't anything but this weird, gravy stuff they call pan roast. Not a fan at all. Cheesy shrimp and grits - (-2/5) The grit's were flavorless and the cheese was over the top. And I say this as a massive cheese lover. It was swimming in grease. It was so gross. It comes with (4) large shrimp that aren't even seasoned well and they can't even hold up against the greasy, mushy flavorless grits. Not a fan. S'mores bread pudding - (-5/5) It was a huge portion of bread pudding, but it was flavorless. It was just like getting a giant cube of soggy bread. It comes with (4) marshmallows on each side. They apparently heated them just a bit because they were soft when they arrived. By the time you eat them though, they were already really chewy. Then it comes with a tiny plastic cup with a little bit of chocolate sauce and another tiny cup with crumbled graham cracker. It wasn't even one full cracker crumbled up. And neither was enough to pair properly with the huge cube of bread. Super disappointing. I will go back, but only for the fish and chips, but with the clam chowder substituted for the fries. This place has a large variety of oysters to choose from and it was nice trying so many in one place, I've had only the Kumamoto oysters at other seafood restaurants and was unaware of how many different types there were. The oysters were fresh and nice to see the difference between each one from being more briny or sweet. We hit up this place that I've had bookmarked for a ridiculously long time to finally try the world famous Pan Roast. I ordered online since I was anxious about other reviews mentioning long waits, but our food was ready a few minutes after we arrived and there were several empty tables. We got: "HOUSE PAN ROAST $28.00 Our specialty Pan Roast is a savory tomato based cream sauce with sautéed trinity (celery, onions, and green bell peppers). Served with Jasmine Rice. House specialty includes shredded blue crab, clams, mussels, andouille sausage, and shrimp." So... we had a really bad experience with unexpectedly spicy food the night before, so we overcompensated and got this with no spice and no trinity. The andouille added plenty of spice as we ate it - not overwhelming but we definitely felt it by the end. The dish was creamy and flavorful and soooo good. The rice portion was surprisingly small though, and we could've used a slice or two of bread for that sauce. Honestly, I think we would've been happier with the shrimp-only version (and add more shrimp!). We will absolutely be back, and try some of the other dishes - I appreciate that you can specify the spice level on so many dishes! read more

It was really delicious and addicting to eat especially with the aioli and lemon they give on the side. Came on a Friday night at around 730pm and had to wait about 30 minutes before getting seated. Overall the food tasted great and the servers were helpful. I didn't get a picture but we also got the 12 oysters special they have. I'm giving a one star because a day later me and another friend in the party got really sick at the same time (highly likely food poisoning as we had the same symptoms that describe it). The chowder fries were okay but I felt like they needed more chowder they mainly tasted like cheese fries with cajun seasoning which was good. We ate them all! My husband had the hot Cheeto truffle Mac which was pleasantly delicious. I was surprised at how buttery and garlicky it was. He liked it and I did too. He also ordered the bread bowl and that's where I would say disappointment came. The chowder just didn't taste like clam chowder it tasted almost like "combination pizza" in his words but for me I tasted it and it reminded me of a container or can taste of aluminum. The whole reason I ordered from The Dive Oyster Bar was that I wanted SHRIMP and grits. I tried to contact the restaurant through DoorDash, but there was no phone number. I tried to contact them through their website, but there was no phone number. They have a form on their website. I filled it out twice and I have not heard back. (Now that I am here on Yelp giving my negative review I see there is a phone number here. That's not helping now.) I also ordered smores bread pudding. It came disassembled and the marshmallows weren't toasted. I had to assemble it and heat it up under the broiler my oven. Had a pretty decent lunch here with friends today. Vibe is a step up above fast-casual. Still a sit-down but not too formal. Service was lax all around. It's oyster season. Fresh kumamatos and other solid options. Came with some sauce, horseradish, and lemons over a tray of ice. Chowder frots were heavy but not a bad appetizer. Tots and fries loaded with cheese, chowder, and bacon on a cute little cast iron skillet. I'd pass on the cioppino next time. The stew was sweet, loose and was very tomato forward. Not sure if intentional. Came with linguini and a variety of seafood. I like my cioppino more rich, robust, and rustic. Missing the briny characteristics of a traditional cioppino but hey that's personal preference. I digress. The star was clearly the Pan Roast. Very rich, thicc, and tasty. Again a little too tomato forward and relied on heavy cream. Again would prefer a more briny roasted flavor, but this I would order again and opt for the spiciest level. Spice level throughout for a medium is on the sweeter side. Overall a great addition to the South Bay for seafood lovers yearning for SF inspired shellfish at roughly $50/pp. Would return for oysters and the pan roast. read more

A place that lives up to their Instagram viral videos. My partner and I arrived for happy hour, and despite coming very close to the end time, they took us in at the happy hour price. Not only was the food great, but the indoor aesthetics were beautiful, especially on a rainy day. The service was excellent and attentive. Our waitress got us a box right on time before we had to ask her. Would recommend this spot! Pan roast and clam chowder hit the spot that night. read more

Met up with some friends to have dinner here and we got to try some other dishes. CHEESY SHRIMP AND GRITS: Creamy country style grits dressed with an Andouille sauce and topped with Jumbo Cajun seasoned shrimp (4/5). CHICKEN AND ANDOUILLE SAUSAGE PAN ROAST: Their specialty Pan Roast is a savory tomato based cream sauce with sautéed trinity (celery, onions, and green bell peppers). Served with Jasmine rice (3.5/5). Thick, creamy, yet sweeter than the House pan roast. THE DIVE CHOWDER: Their signature homemade clam chowder is creamy yet full of flavor. Cooked with blue crab, whole clams, shrimp, and served with oyster crackers (4/5). Herby, rich, and full of other seafood. JAMBALAYA: Rich tomato sauce, celery, onions, and green bell peppers, sautéed with rice, shrimp, andouille sausage, mussels, and calamari (4/5). The server told us this usually comes medium spicy, which was fine with us. One of the better Jambalayas i've ever had. It was flavorful and moist. LOBSTER ROLL: Lobster meat sautéed in garlic butter filled in between a brioche bun toasted with garlic butter and dressed with mayonnaise inside. Topped off with the Dive's cajun spice and parsley. Ordered the top two items recommended. The pan roast with house speciality & the dive chowder. They were both very good. Service was fast, as there weren't that many customers on a Saturday. Prices are a little expensive but definitely worth a try! read more

I came here as a party of four on a late Wednesday night, was able to get seated right away which was great. We ended ordering truffle mac & cheese with hot Cheetos on the side, lobster roll with truffle cajun fries, lobster pasta, and house specialty pan roast. Everything was as great as it looked. Tasted so fresh with large portions! Our service was exceptional as well. I honestly think I found my new favorite restaurant! Definitely looking forward to coming back soon! read more

We were seated right away, and the atmosphere had a nice touch with a cool mural on the wall. From our seat, we had a glimpse of the chef preparing meals, which is a nice element. There were a bit more waiters than needed, and since the space is small, the servers were standing just a couple of steps away from our table, which felt a little bit uncomfortable. Lobster Roll ($34): This delicious roll was the star of the show! It was filled with flavor and could tell it was fresh. My only complaint is that it was too small. The brioche bread was perfection and complimented very well the lobster. We also substituted regular fries for truffle fries and it was delicious! Nice, hot and crispy with bursting flavor of truffle. (10/10) Cheesy Shrimp and Grits ($13): This dish was amazing as well! It was cheesy, creamy with perfectly cooked shrimp. we are always in the mood for some good seafood! This place used to be a lobster roll place under a different name. The restaurant is bright and clean inside. We came on a Saturday evening and luckily got seated right away. The service was efficient and quick. The server was friendly. The entrees are decently portioned so aligns with the price of the dishes. If I had to pick one negative thing about the dishes, I had a bug on one of the oysters which I mentioned to the server. I would've appreciated more attention but it pretty much stopped there. I was charged and paid for all the oysters which I did not end up consuming because of the fly. Other than that, the food was great. I have already recommended this spot to other friends. read more
