Happy they're in san jose so I dont have to commute to their east bay locations. Craving their muffaletta, andnit didnt disappoint Their fish was suuuper juicy. And I could've done without their tenders this time. Also, ordered crab fries, and I failed to check my box before leaving. Love thay they put the sauce on the side, but wasnt as great as past experiences aside from SJ.

I was lucky enough to just happen upon their pre-opening few months ago and tried them out. The store wasn't listed on yelp or google at the time so I didn't write a review at then, so this is all coming from my memory. I was in San Pedro for a beer and saw that there was a brand new store. Southern comfort food. I thought heck, let's try it! I've been to the deep south few times for work as well as New Orleans, and I absolutely loved the southern food. But, I didn't expect much to be honest, since it is in middle of San Jose. Although south bay got some amazing places like the Jackie's Place (I have to do a review on them someday), it's not really not known for southern comfort food. I've got their catfish po'boy and got the fries upgraded to crab fries. When the food came out with the generous portion, I was already feeling good. I took a bite out of the sandwich and hit with a shock. It was just like, or even better than many of the authentic cat fish I've had in the south. The cornmeal around the fish had the perfect flavor and texture that you really can't find outside the south. The sauce and the bread all worked out in unison. The crab fries had plenty of crab and went amazing with the seasoned fries and the condiments. I'm so excited to have this place as the new addition to San Pedro. It's right near market beer company so it's great to enjoy the food wish some refreshing beer. I kind of like this other building in San Pedro since it's usually much more chill than the main one, so the atmosphere is on point for me. Staffs were nice and friendly too. I am sure to come back for more, many times.

We were so excited to see Southern Comfort Kitchen open up a restaurant closer to us in the San Pedro Market Square in San Jose! We have been a fan of theirs at their Castro Valley location for years! This is more of a "food stall" with a slightly smaller menu than their other location. One kiosk to order from. Plenty of seating options inside and outside and plenty of restrooms spread out throughout the marketplace. We ordered the... 50/50 w/ Cajun Fries: Half this and half that pick 2 of the following 2pc Mississippi Catfish fileted, 4 Gulf Shrimp, 2 Oysters 2pc Chicken Strips served w/ remoulade sauce & your choice of 1 side. Blackened Shrimp w/ Grits: 7 Gulf Shrimp pan seared w/ blackened seasoning, garlic, butter, worcestershire infused creamy Abita Beer Sauce on Cheesey Grits. Brussels Sprouts: Fried crispy with a drizzle of maple syrup, sea salt, and black pepper. Jambalaya: Their famous Cajun rice dish with the trinity, chunks of chicken, beef and pork andouille sausage, and spices topped with green onions (no pic). Come check them out. Delicious!! All around. I had the grits and the flavor was great! I had a bite of my boyfriend's sandwich and it was wonderful, we originally wanted to order the hot chicken, but the staff member informed me it was sound out when I asked after I didn't see it on the ordering kiosk. Ooo and the beignets were so tasty too! Love a sweet treat! The friendly staff and delicious food definitely make it a great addition to San Pedro Square!

The fries tasted stale and not enough shrimps or fries in the po boy I love y'all's OG restaurant but I don't think the SJ location represents y'all well. Compared to your IG posts it doesn't look up to par. I also sent this to their Instagram to give them feedback and was left on read.

The food is so bomb. Perfectly seasoned and cooked. We are frequent visitors of san pedro square market and this is exactly what they've been missing. One person was running the resto and they were so energetic and kind!

How grits should look. (Screen Door Restaurant)

I was craving some shrimp and grits, so we decided to try out Southern Comfort. The hubbys Who Dat chicken was delicious and the sauce was flavorful. My shrimp and grits was a bummer. Grits are not supposed to be soup, but alas here we are. Hush puppies were a bit overcooked but delicious. The Mac and cheese was ok, I liked they used shell pasta. Maybe they were having an off day, it happens.

service was good nothing crazy friendly or anything, food was honestly mid and a let down, got the chicken sandwich with the slaw on the side instead of on it and im glad i dis because it was bad, kfc slaw hits harder tbh. the fries were very overcooked and crisp while some were soft. ( my friend ordered a sep batch of fries and theirs came out much better so unsure of the inconsistency) the chicken sandwich itself was eh. lots of other food spots to go to instead of this at this market square! :)

Deconstructed Catfish Po Boy. You're supposed to deconstruct the sandwich, not the catfish!!!

You need to educate your employees what the "Deconstructed" option means when you order a Po Boy thru Doordash. The first two times my "Deconstructed" Po Boy came with all the ingredients separated as expected (bread, catfish, slaw, sauce). This time they literally deconstructed the catfish in our Po Boys.

This place is pretty good. If you're looking for some Southern Comfort food look no further. Everything was seasoned well and very tasty. Service was nice and friendly. If you're in the area, pull up.

I saw this place on DoorDash and I wasn't sure what to expect really. Well expectations were meet & exceeded. The food was so amazing! It was so good & flavorful I had to share with my friends. For lunch I ordered the mac n cheese (without breadcrumbs), red beans & rice, and 50/50 catfish and shrimp. I wanted to sample as much as I could so happy I did! Definitely will be ordering from here again!! In fact I will be taking my friends to this restaurant for lunch in a couple weeks. I know it will be better fresh out the kitchen!

It's so unique and addicting with a perfect sweetness to it that isn't overwhelming with a slight creaminess and not as savory as most other seafood boils. The crawfish they use is amazing as well, it must be a different kind from most others because the meat is more tender and sweet. I have no problem sucking the claw meat out where as other restaurants I have to dig inside the claw to pull out the meat. Soooo good and I visit as often as I can. Friendly service. They offer other food options as well like Bun Bo Hue, Bun Rieu, etc, but the seafood boil is so good that's all I ever get here. It's also open till 4am!!! Club and seafood boil after?

The other seafood options were fresh too and for an all you can eat spot, the pricing was really good and variety seafood options. The downside was the wait time for crab new was pretty long, which was frustrating. One thing that really took away from the experience: around 9:55 pm while we were still sitting and finishing dessert, staff started cleaning with a strong bleach smell. Eating ice cream or your dessert while smelling bleaching and light were almost turned off is not pleasant at all and it ruined the dessert moment for me. Dessert wise strawberry ice cream was really good. Overall great food, especially the crab but the timing and cleaning situation needs improve.

It's been a long time since I've had a seafood boil and decided to try this place out. A lot of…read moreseafood boil places are closed on Monday but I was lucky to find this one and quickly got seated. I was greeted by a really nice young guy (didn't get his name) who handed me a menu to look at. I combed over the menu and decided to order shrimp and added corn, potato, and side of steamed rice. You're able to choose from a variety of sauces and can choose your own spice level. I decided to go with their house sauce which i felt was a fusion of Cajun and garlic butter sauce; with a medium spice level. I do want to add the shrimp doesn't have a set price. The price is dependent on the Market price which turned out to be 15.99 for a pound of shrimp. You don't get to choose headless, the shrimp comes in its full form; which is fine by me. But I know some people prefer shrimp without the head on. I'd like to add this place has very reasonable prices for their boils; compared to a lot of their competitors Ie. Boiling crab. The boil it's self was a 4/5 with the house sauce and all the added sides. The shrimp were cooked to perfection and wasn't overcooked. Service: 5/5 The young guy with glasses who served me was very kind and attentive. Overall I give this place a 5/5 I will definitely be returning.

The servers can be extremely rude and for no reason, but I try to be tolerable and understanding. It's no wonder there is such high turnover because I never see the same service staff twice. Anyway, I think these guys recently had a change in ownership because the food tastes better than what I can remember. During our most recent visit, our party of 3 ordered an entire spread of crawfish, clams, shrimp, garlic noodles, raw oysters, fries, etc. and just went in. You can elect for your choice for sauce, and spice level -- and add any preferred extras like corn, sausages, and potatoes. The sauce and flavors have drastically improved compared to previous dine in experiences. This would be a good choice for a Cajun crawfish and seafood boil treat, but I can't stand on the service you'll receive -- hit or miss. Bonus: bring your own seafood dipping sauce. My girl made a spicy tamarind sauce perfect for seafood and I took a bottle with me for dipping.

Too bad you can't add to the waitlist beforehand. We ended up getting seated at our table around 7:50pm This location is not as big as the other SJ location but it is slightly less busy than that one since it's further out. They have a white board near the door that lists the seafood that they're out of for the day, which is helpful to note. Menu and pricing is available through the QR code on the table We ordered 2lbs of shrimp and 1 lb of crawfish in medium spice with the whole shabang to share between 2 people. The seafood boil came out hot and within 10 mins but we felt like it wasn't marinaded into the seafood, potato's and corn enough. Portion and spice wise was perfect though. We were hoping to order garlic noodles but was a little disappointed it wasn't on their menu. Our host was attentive though and came by to check on us and give us more gloves

I was really disappointed with our visit. I haven't been to The Boiling Crab in years--probably 7…read moreyears or more. One reason is that I don't live in the San Jose area anymore, and another is that there are now so many seafood boil spots around since Boiling Crab really started the trend. One positive right away: there was no long wait. We arrived around 8pm and were seated immediately, which was great. I remember the days when we'd have to put our name down and walk around Target while waiting for our table. I do wish they offered combo bags like a lot of other seafood boil places do now, since that's always a hit. Instead, we ordered 3 pounds of shrimp with whole-sha-bang sauce in mild. The shrimp themselves were great--nice and big, not the tiny peanut-sized ones you sometimes get. The flavor was also really good. However, the "mild" tasted much spicier than I remembered. From past visits, mild always had a small kick but was still pretty manageable. This honestly tasted closer to medium. My boyfriend politely asked one of the servers if he could get a small side of garlic butter because the sauce was spicier than expected. She immediately responded that it would be $5 for extra sauce, and the way it was said came off pretty rude. We understand that there's an option to make the bag "extra saucy" for an additional charge, but he wasn't asking for extra sauce for the whole bag--just a small side to balance out the spice. Even a simple response like "I'm sorry it came out spicier than expected" would have gone a long way. I've worked in customer service for over 15 years, and I've always believed in "kill them with kindness." We weren't rude at all--we just mentioned that it seemed spicier than mild. In the end, we decided to just skip the extra sauce. Again, the flavor was still good, but to me this definitely tasted more like medium. When we got our check, a different server asked how everything was. My boyfriend mentioned that the sauce was spicier than mild, and she responded with, "Oh no, I'm sorry it wasn't exactly what you wanted." We told her it wasn't her fault since we had already mentioned it earlier, and she just gave us a sympathetic look. Overall, the food itself was good, and I'd probably give it a 4 for taste, but the lack of customer service knocked the experience down for me. I understand it was later in the evening and they still had a full lobby, but a little kindness and attentiveness would have made a big difference.
