Got taken out for my birthday and I decided, let's go to Rosy's! And we went for lunch. Created and seated while the great rock played in the background, surprisingly it wasn't crowded at all! Started with the Calamari (good), my girls got the fish tacos (good and big) I decided on Linguine and shrimp. In the past I've enjoyed the linguine and clams so it seemed the shrimp pasta would be the same... sadly I was wrong. This time the cream sauce was just that ALL CREAM! it was pure whipping cream, no wine, butter, cheese or fish flavor. Bland, thick and flavorless. It was a real disappointment, and I sincerely don't say that lightly, especially a place I love and look forward to going to. I absolutely love supporting small local restaurants, take me to any hole-in-the-wall as long as the food is great... sadly this place was a miss for me. Restaurant was clean and we were greeted warmly. We ordered the fish tacos, clam chowder, garlic bread and the fish and chips plate. Everything just didn't taste right and we weren't impressed. It's not that it wasn't fresh, it just left a coating of oil in our mouth and the food didn't taste seasoned. The clam chowder was chalky and lumpy, the fish and chips didn't have a crisp bite, and the coleslaw was a hot mess. The garlic bread was hard as a rock, I think only one slice out of the whole basket was edible. The fish tacos were basic but not tasty. The quality of the food was lacking and I'm so sad because I really wanted to love it here. Our bill felt pricey for what we were served and the majority of our group would not come back. The ambiance was a bit off in this place, there is a random bar towards the back of the restaurant and a couple tvs scattered throughout. It was a bit dingy, but we didn't mind. This has been around for quite a while & I've been going here with my parents when I was little, I'm glad that it stayed in business even after Covid. This place is definitely a family oriented restaurant. The restaurant itself is small, and seating is self-serve when you walk in. However, with minimal staff, service was noticeably slow. We were seated right away, but we went on a day that was 90 degrees and I am not sure if they have ac, but it was hot in there. I got a piña colada and it was good. The calamari was also good. The fish tacos were salmon, which was a first for me and the salmon was dry so I couldn't finish two of them. Since it was hot in there I couldn't enjoy the clam chowder, so I wouldn't know if it was good or not. The service was ok. When we got there, it was only one waiter. The lobster dish on top of a bread bowl filled with fries, some shrimp and meat was so random. The clam chowder was too thick for my liking. And boyfriend's fish taco dish was so random. A plate of steamed broccoli, fries, a bowl of chowder and the fish tacos were salmon. We were not used to having salmon as the fish for fish tacos. Usually it would be some rock cod fish. This place is definitely one of a kind. I really miss what it used to look like. I remember they had whole cakes in glass dishes on the counter and I wanna say they had an aquarium. It is definitely not their fault but we never got refills. It was difficult to get anything like sauces, lemon, or anything else. We went here for our weekly lunch. We're a bunch of Italians who love to cook and eat and we always go somewhere different because we like to try new places. My dad, brother, cousin and I all thought the food here was fantastic as well as the service and ambience. Oysters were large size and super fresh. The fried smelt was great too! I also had half a breaded calamari sandwich served with fries n salad and it was perfect. The only critique I have is that my brothers linguine and clams came in a heavy cream sauce. For me linguine and clams is best in a sauce of garlic, white wine, lemon, a little butter and olive oil, and topped with parsley and preferably a little red pepper. Wanted to check this place out after seeing videos of it on IG and Tiktok LOL. As you can see from my other reviews, i'm easily influenced when it comes to food xD. Anyways, it's located in the East side of San Jose on Story road. It can be easy to miss if you're just driving by. It's a blue building with a Weinerschnitzel next to it. There's parking on the side and back. Inside was def a vibe. Not like a modern vibe, but a cute lunch date with your grandparents kind of vibe yknow. On to the food. We got: Oyster shooters- pretty good in my opinion. I'm used to downing smaller oyster shooters, so if you can't handle bigger ones (lol) maybe skip these. But they had a good amount of sauce and provide juicy lemon wedges on the side. Fried calamari- it was happy hour when we went (4pm-630 on a Monday) and it was just like any other calamari I've had. I liked that there's wasn't a whole lot of breading and that it was just the perfect amount of crunch. Oyster rockafellar- This wasn't too bad either. Good amount of cheese, and good sized oyster, quite flavorful. Large clam chowder bowl that comes with garlic bread- I really enjoyed the clam chowder here. It's a great consistency, like it wasn't too watery. It was nice and thick. Good flavor, even better with this hot sauce they had on their table. I forgot what it was called but it added a great little kick. The garlic bread dipped in the chowder was amazing. I would come back here just for the clam chowder. Partner got the Seafood pasta with red sauce- He enjoyed it. He was worried that the muscles was gonna taste like frozen muscles but they didn't. Flavorless rice, soggy bland calamari, tough overcooked beef, soggy oily fries. The lobster was ok, but a little rubbery and overcooked. The clam chowder had no clams or clam taste at all; it was like a nice cream soup that could be tolerable with a bit of hot sauce. But not really Clam Chowder. The Margarita tasted of that fake lemon juice that comes in a plastic bottle. The best thing was actually the seafood cocktail, which had lots of shrimp and octopus in a decent sauce. I became aware of Rosy's Fish City when a video of their Lobster Fries dish showed up on my Facebook feed. I knew I had to try it. My opportunity came when my wife suggested we try someplace new for dinner so off we went. The menu is full of interesting choices besides seafood dishes though I did not find Lobster Fries on it. I asked the waitress and she explained it is an off menu item but she would be happy to make it for me. My wife chose the grilled Salmon Tacos. It came with rice, vegetables and a cup of White Clam Chowder. My Lobster Fries was a massive plate of goodness. Fresh, hot fries topped with cheese, shrimp and carne asada and a nice sized grilled lobster tail. The portion size was so generous that we both have enough for tomorrow's lunch. However she did say her salad was excellent. My only complaint is that the place was like an ice box freezing cold, and a little to pricey for what we ordered.
