The food was very good we have had this at a few other places in San Jose but this is the most crispy one we had. The vegetables and the sauce pair really well with it. Can you easily make Bột Chiên at home? Yes with store bought flour cakes. Does it come out bomb? Not if I'm making it! I found Bột Chiên on Yelp trending as a hot and new business. With French and Chinese influences, Bột Chiên is a Viet street food consisting of crispy flour cakes mixed with eggs and served with crack sauce (soy based). Sadly, it doesn't exist in the city (to my knowledge) and the closest thing is at Red Bowl in Daly City. It's alright but not nearly as good as the ones in E Man Jose. Randomly saw this new spot pop up inside the Lion Food Court in Lion Plaza. We love a good bot chien so we decided to try them out. We came on a Saturday around 10:20am and the food court was already bustling. Ordering was quick and easy. When our food was ready, the cashier lady called out to us to come pick it up. We ordered.. BOT CHIEN KHOAI MON $14 -fried taro cake with egg. It's topped with shredded papaya, green onions and fried little bread croutons. Sweet soy dipping sauce, chili sambal and pickled shredded daikon / carrots were given on the side. OK overall, the taro cake was too dense and heavy for me. The dipping sauce was delicious though. I think I would have preferred the original rice cake version. The portion was kinda small for the price tag. 3/5* CHA CA CHIEN (2) $12 -fried fish cake taco. It's basically fish paste smeared on rice paper, folded in half and deep fried. It came with sweet and sour sauce. Pretty good, different but again, hefty price tag for what you get. It's more like a snack. 3/5* The lady taking our order was super friendly. She gave us a free sample of their crispy rice with pork floss. She also noticed that we had our toddler with us so she asked if we wanted extra napkins, plates and water. Found this new spot that recently opened while I was in town visiting a friend. It's tucked away inside the plaza but worth the trip!!! Tons of parking and good location. This bột chiến was pretty good but I wish iit had sweet radish like tung kee. I atill think that Thien Long still has the best bot chien in the areas. I didn't have time to take pictures since I was quite hungry . I checked this food shop on yelp and it didn't disappoint. The service was kind and friendly. It was so nice to see grandma in the kitchen knowing it will be good. I bought the bot chien regular and it came with an extra side of pickled radish and carrots, sriracha and sauce. This is my favorite Vietnamese street food and it was just how I liked it! The rice cake was crispy and delicious and the pairing of the pickled veggies and sauce was a delight. Bột Chiên is a place of my childhood dreams. I grew up obsessed with bột chiên and only getting it Tung Kee. We decided to come to Lion Plaza today to try another place. But since the wait was long and we were hungry, we ordered a regular bột chiên to share. The lady at the counter was friendly, giving us the biggest smile. When food came out and the egg was a bright yellow and the colors looked great on the plate. Just a heads up, we devoured it so I didn't get a picture. The egg was seasoned so well that I would have eaten the egg part by itself. The bột chiên, the star of the show, was cut into sizes that would fit in my mouth in one go. It was crispy. It was tasty. This is a new spot located in the food court at lion plaza. They have a variety of appetizers including wings , egg rolls , and known for their bot chien which is kinda like a Vietnamese omelette with taro. I wanted to give this spot a shot yesterday and got the taro bot chien. It was crispy and hot . They also gave me a sauce on the side that was delicious and went perfectly with the omelette.
