[Food] Takeout - 2pc Fish, 4pc shrimp ($18.70) + Cajun fries ($1.75): Fish is crispy and batter is flavorful, but the fish is the thinnest I've ever seen (possibly due to it being catfish rather than the usual cod). Shrimp is meaty and the batter is thin. Seasoned Cajun fries are crispy and nicely seasoned. Not too salty. Sauces we got were lemon garlic butter (tasted more like garlic butter) and Bang Bang (tomato spicy sauce) - Clam Chowder ($5.99): Flavorful compared to most places. Would order again. [Service] - Fast, friendly, helpful [Overall] - Would come back again as we really enjoyed the flavors and how thin the batter was.
This is my first time trying any Fish and Chips and it was great! I've been seeing it around on TikTok lately. You could either order online or order in store. I came on a late Sunday afternoon around 4/5pm and it wasn't busy. I got the hungry pack which came with a lot of food! For $20, you get 2 fish, fries, and 4 shrimp! The batter on the fish was amazing, super flavorful. I believe the same batter is used for the shrimp. The batter for the shrimp wasn't as tasty as the fish though. The fries could definitely use some work but it wasn't bad. They made the food pretty fast within 10 minutes. There are a lot of seating for a smaller sized restaurant with 2 TVs.
You know that feeling after you eat some thick and oily fish and chips that got you feeling a bit off after you eat them? That's exactly what you won't feel here because the batter is much more like fried chicken kind've feel and battered perfectly. I'm not trying to say that thick battered fish and chips are bad but this was a nice change. I also like how the filets are long thin which are easy to eat. We got absolutely hooked up with fries too with the fried fish. If I were to do it again, I would do three pieces of fish instead of two. As for the other side I got the mac salad which was not the best, didn't like it at all. My mom didn't either. Would look forward to come back and try their clam chowder and toasted bread. Those looked really good. Inside there was plenty of seating and we were the only ones in there which was surprising.
The decor is nice with some exceptions. There are a several things here and there that need fixing, decor wise. When I walked in, I'm not exaggerating here, every table had varying amounts of crumbs having not been wiped down so I had to choose a table with the least amount. To the food. I got the fish, shrimp and chips. The following applies to all three. They had some spices but honestly they were mid at best. The breaded fish had a strange texture, kind of mushy. Fish is usually flakey right? The shrimp and chips/fries were mid as well.
OK, I have to admit I'm biased to like any place that calls itself "Shark Boy", whether it's a fish and chips place, a spa, hotel, whatever. Just seems playful and fun. But how was the food? Fortunately, it was good! The breading on the fish was a little unconventional compared to a lot of fish and chip places - almost like a corn meal, find breading versus the batter bready type. But I liked it. What I really liked was the fish seemed fresh - light and flaky. It seemed like it was freshly breaded and fried, not frozen. It's just that I've been to some places that service fish where the fish inside is soggy, seems freezer burned, and is just a bear to eat. But this was a pleasure to eat. Flavor was pretty typical, but texture and freshness was excellent. And you could pick two sauces (tartar sauce and hot sauce for me!) which is great because I used both. And the sides I picked were the chips/fries and coleslaw and both were very good too. Lots of fries as you can see. Service was businesslike and efficient and they brought the meal to my table versus just calling my name to get it. I like the small touches and they seem like they care about the customer experience, even if it's a more casual place. Just the hand sanitizer on the table was a thoughtful touch which I appreciated. So very much enjoyed it and happy to recommend it.
This was my first time ever going to this restaurant, and it hit the spot perfectly!! We were craving some thing light and fish is always perfect and anything deep-fried is always amazing, may as well put the two together!! I have a stupid food, allergies, and luckily, for me, the gentleman working behind the counter, Hoodie, went and found their recipe book to find out the exact ingredients of their batter since I'm allergic to monosodium glutamate/MSG. He was such a sweetheart and went through the roller decks of recipes! I was in luck and none of their fish tacos or Clam Chowder had monosodium glutamate, but their signature House sauce was mixed with ranch and another sauce, so I couldn't have that since ranch has monosodium glutamate in it. My foodie friend and I decided to get two different dishes so we could share. I got the fish tacos which were delicious and I love their different assortment of sauces! We also got clam chowder and shrimp with french fries! Goodness everything was so delicious. we were full for the time being, but not overly full!! I really love the playful environment of the atmosphere. There were a bunch of games you could play with your family and I thought that was very inviting for a family like setting. At the front counter they also had little fidget spinners or pop its , You could take free of charge. Lol too funny!! I definitely wanna go back here and try more dishes and sauces!!
My son really hyped this place up, so I was excited to try it. But unfortunately it was just okay for me. The 2 Hungry meals we ordered were drastically different, one plate was loaded up with fries and giant pieces of fish, and the other had a small handful of mushy fries with overly cooked fish that was so tiny, it was like an afterthought to the coating. They did throw an extra shrimp in the meal, but the grease used to fry it was dirty and the breading was falling off the shrimp. For $27, I just expect better for one plate. The star of the meal was the bang bang sauce. Not sure I'd even revisit this location after such disappointing food at a pretty hefty price tag.

This place is soooooo good. Tucked in a little area right off the 880 and First st. The staff is very friendly and accommodating, you feel so welcome. I went Friday night and it was so delicious it's all I could think about at work Saturday so I went again! The food is fresh and so delicious. Popping hot even when I picked up and went home with it. It's a must try!
Had an amazing experience here last weekend. I've had Shark boy bookmarked for quite some time and I'm really glad I finally got to try this place. The staff was so friendly and informed on their menu. My friend has an MSG allergy and they looked through all the ingredients to make sure she can have each dish/sauce. Hoody was especially nice and hospitable. I love the fish here, it's not battered it's breaded. Light and crispy, not too greasy. The fries are seasoned to perfection and I tried most of their condiments/ specialty sauces and they were all out of this world. For sides I would recommend: fries or their clam chowder which was perfect for this rainy weather. The vibes are more laid back and super family friendly! They have a little play area for the kids and what kid doesn't love a basket of fries ?! Can't wait to make this place part of my weekly rotation.
Came here since I was craving some fish and chips and seen this place popping up lately. You come in and it's okay looking inside not much wow factor. You order on the Kiosk. Ordered the garlic Parmesan fries, friend shrimp and the fried fish and chips. Food was good but taste got tiring after a while. They have sauces but it was okay as well. They didn't have napkins and when I asked for some the guy said I'll give you this much for now. Wasn't really clean the tables. Their garlic Parmesan fries were mid, it had too much fake garlic sauce on it and just over powering to be honest. Their potato salad tasted like it was from Walmart. Probably won't come again but glad I tried it.
Stopped by Sharkboy Fish and Chips today to give it a try. The shrimp were good size and cooked well, but didn't have the sweet taste of shrimp. Fish was crispy, a little lacking in flavor, and I think the batter is a cornmeal. 6.8/10. I really enjoyed the fries because they were crispy and flavorful 8/10. The sauces were decent and they have several to choose from.
Never had cajun style fish n chips til here! The food is pretty bomb! I would recommend the hella hungry fish & shrimp plate w/ cajun fries. The fish is lightly battered, seasoned well, flaky, with a light crisp. The shrimps were so plump with a tasty batter. A bit less crispy than the fish though. The fish sandwich & shrimp slider weren't bad but the bread was a little too much/sweet for me. My friends liked it though! The onion rings & clam chowder are so slept on. Onion rings were so so crispy & they were super generous with the clams in the chowder. Sauces here were all tasty and house made. Quick service! They got everything out all at once and pretty fast, especially given we ordered so much and they were busy already. Place itself is very casual and a great spot to eat good and chat. I would definitely come back for the fried fish, shrimp, onion rings, and clam chowder!

First time here! Food was amazing and service was great! Ordered the 3 fish plate with Cajun fries,Toast, tartar sauce and bang bang sauce. Fish was crispy nicely seasoned and not too salty. Cajun fries and toast were really good as well. Will definitely be coming back! read more

5/5 crust and seasoning. The quantity is definitely less for the price compared so some places but the food was fire. The shrimp is so crispy you can even eat the tail. I wish they did give more sauce tho. Would I come back, yea. Service is always p good to and never really crowded. read more

Got the Hungry fish and shrimp combo, which comes with two fried fish, four fried shrimp, and a mac salad. Unfortunately, the fish and shrimp were mid for me. The batter was a bit too thick and crunchy than I prefer, and I was hoping for something lighter, airier, and crispier. The macaroni salad was also okay. I also got a side of fries, but I was given crinkle cut fries instead of the regular fries shown on the kiosk image, which was disappointing. On a positive note, the cashier was helpful and the place was clean. There is a designated parking spot, however, it is limited as they share the space with other establishments. read more

Ambiance: modern restaurant that's shark and ocean theme, was pretty warm in there Service: Was good, was checking on us. There's a kiosk to order from. 2 Fish & 4 Shrimp Combo $18.70 (4/5): Fish had a very crispy breading and not greasy. The filet is smaller than what I'm used to. The shrimp was good, but it doesn't stand out enough for me to order again. Garlic fries (additional price) were great, with an actual garlic-and-butter flavor and good texture. Bang Bang sauce is basically a Cajun sauce. Cole slaw was standard, nothing special. It can feed 2 people. Price-to-filet ratio, it's on the pricier side. Would I come eat here again? I wouldn't say it's the best in SJ or Bay Area, but it is a good spot. Just a tad more expensive than other places. read more
I've been meaning to go to this place for months and I'm sad I didn't go when I first looked it up. The food is absolutely delicious. It is so crispy and so tasty that I'm shocked. Paired with the garlic butter, I can feel my heart telling me to stop but it's just so addicting. The service can be a bit slow because there's a lot of people ordering but you order on an iPad and they start right away. I recommend eating it there to get the maximum freshness and it should be enjoyed right away. Most fried things are best enjoyed sooner than rather later. Would definitely go here again!! read more
I came with a group of 5 and we shared a family platter. The platter came with fish, shrimp, and LOTS of fries. I enjoyed the variety of sauces they give you to dip your food. The fish had a good batter and wasent super dry on the inside but I did wish the fish was a little thicker. The fries were perfectly seasoned and fried for a nice crisp outside read more
This place keeps popping up on my instagram so it was finally time to give it a try. The restaurant itself is decorated cutely but upon a closer look things could definitely benefit from being dusted and there seems to be some incomplete project (hole in the ceiling). The food however was very good. It was cooked to order so it came out hot and fresh. I really enjoyed everything I tried. Their sauces are good as well. The fish/shrimp tasted fresh and flavorful. My favorite were the shrimp tacos and bang bang sauce. My only other issue which I don't know can be fixed is the amount of single use plastic this place uses. All the sauces come in plastic containers that are thrown away. I noticed we had some extra sauces leftover so I felt even more wasteful. Not sure what can be done but wanted to mention. Overall I had a good experience. The gentleman working was very welcoming and kind. read more

3.5 stars not as flavorful as I thought it would be based on videos and reviews. The worker gave us all of the sauces to sample and honestly none of them paired that well with the fish. I think I liked mango habanero best Ordered: Fish and Cajun fries- Cajun were kind of cold and soggy. Not flavorful like the ones you get at seafood boil places Shrimp sandwich: too much bread but breaded shrimp was good Sides: potato salad and Mac salad, nothing to write home about I wanted to try the crab mozzarella stick but they were sold out the day I came. I've been here multiple times, and this spot leans fully into bold, Cajun-inspired flavors rather than playing it safe. Some things absolutely shine, while a few items fall a bit short. Here's the breakdown: Fried Fish (4.5/5) This is the star of the show and the reason I keep coming back. The fish is generously portioned, coated in a well-spiced batter, and fried to a satisfying crunch. The seasoning actually penetrates the crust instead of just sitting on top. The staff confirmed they use a basa fish, and it works beautifully here. I usually go with the Fish Classic and opt for the three-piece because anything less feels wrong. Breaded Shrimp (3/5) On my third visit, I tried the breaded shrimp, mostly because shrimp shows up all over the menu. Unfortunately, it didn't live up to the fish. There's a strange disconnect between the batter and the shrimp itself, like they're not quite working together the way the batter worked with the fish. The spice wasn't "spicing", which was surprising since I assumed it was the same batter. It's not bad, but it's definitely not the highlight, and I've had better elsewhere. Cajun Chips (4/5) These aren't the standard-cut fries you might expect. They're crinkle-cut despite the menu photos, but that still works in their favor. They're sturdy, crunchy, and excellent at holding onto their many sauces. The Old Bay-style seasoning is doing a lot of the heavy lifting here. Bang Bang Sauce (5/5) If you get anything saucy here, make it this. All of the sauces are house-made, but Bang Bang is clearly their signature. The most important ingredient here is the chipotle pepper. It delivers smoky heat without overwhelming the palate. It's flavorful, balanced, and approachable even if you're not huge on spice. Macaroni Salad (4.5/5) A surprisingly strong side. The mac salad strikes a great balance between creamy, sweet, and tangy, with just enough vinegar to keep it from feeling heavy. It's on the thinner side texture-wise, which makes it especially friendly for anyone who is not a fan of mayo texture. Garlic Lemon Butter (2/5) Overly rich and indulgent. It's extremely rich and coats everything in a heavy way, but it lacks brightness. More garlic and lemon lift would go a long way here. When it comes to fish and chips, some places lean into simplicity, while others go all-in on Flavortown. Shark Boy Fish and Chips clearly falls into the latter camp, and that boldness mostly pays off. Pro tip: grab an extra malt vinegar on the side. All I have to say is no notes. HOOK. LINE. AND SINK. If someone asked me for a good fish & chip rec, I would 100% recommend Shark Boy. Food quality, portion sizes, and wonderful service sets this place apart from other overpriced seafood restaurants. Shark Boy is located technically downtown San Jose however, it is relatively safe part and it has its own free private parking lot right in front. As soon as you enter, the interior is quite spacious with plenty of small tables. You can order via kiosk and with the cashier as well. Clam chowder - This is a solid bowl of clam chowder. Creamy, on the thinner side in terms of consistency, yet full of chunky potatoes and chewy clams. I enjoyed this so much with the salty crackers especially on a cold chilly day. Chips (french fries) - These were decent- crispy lightly seasoned. They don't taste homemade or extraordinary but it surely satisfies that french fry craving. The seasoning was light and just enough to add flavor without taking too much away from the potato. Fried fish - The seasoning was tasty with a nice contrast between the silky soft fish meat and the grainy coating. This paired with their tartar sauce was absolutely heavenly. I have not had such juicy tender fried fish like this in a long time. Mac salad- This was pretty average in terms of taste. I wish it had more flavor or more texture like chunks of celery or egg. Service was outstanding. It was just two guys working the lunch rush on a Wednesday so we didn't expect too much service. But when they delivered our food to the table, they offered us extra sauces and plates to share which was so thoughtful. Some reviews mentioned some dirty unkept tables with crumbs which was also our experience however, I did see the workers diligently working hard in the kitchen despite it just being two people. It seems more like an understaffed issue rather than it being the sentiment of being unsanitary. A few crumbs on the table don't warrant a dirty restaurant. Portion sizes here are so good. My husband and I split a plate of fish and shrimp along with a side of chowder and it was so filling. The food came out so piping hot too so it was so delicious fresh from the fryer. If you're looking for an affordable high quality fish and chip meal, come here. Don't forget a side of clam chowder too! read more

Once you walk in you place your order on a tablet and if you choose to dine in, they bring you the food with condiments and the sauces you choose. They also ask if you want extra sauce! There are plenty of combo options and great sides, some options cost extra of course. For the food I got the super hungry combo, 3 fish + 5 shrimp, and fries! Also got macaroni but honestly didn't really like it that much, the stars of the show were obviously the fish. It was breaded perfectly and tasted juicy, not dry. The fries were also crispy as well, delicious. The shrimp was good but the fish overloads the taste more. This place is pretty spacey and there wasn't that much people when we came, it's not a huge but I would say it's not horrible. read more

We ordered the fried fish and shrimp, garlic fries, and onion rings, and everything came out fresh, hot, and perfectly crispy. The food was well-seasoned without being overly salty, greasy, or dry, which can be difficult to achieve with fried food. The highlight of the meal was definitely the garlic fries. They were topped with plenty of fresh, crispy garlic that added incredible flavor and texture. If you're visiting, I highly recommend ordering them. The fish and shrimp were cooked perfectly with a light, crispy coating that complemented the seafood well. The onion rings were also tasty, although the batter was a bit thicker than I typically prefer. Even so, they were still crunchy and enjoyable. There aren't many dedicated fish and chips spots in San Jose, so it was refreshing to find a restaurant serving this classic comfort food. Everything is made fresh to order, and you place your order through a kiosk in the restaurant. Despite being made fresh, our food arrived within a reasonable amount of time and was served piping hot. The restaurant itself was clean, nicely themed, and had plenty of seating available. Overall, this was a great experience, and I would definitely recommend stopping by if you're craving fish and chips. It's a spot I would happily return to in the future. read more

Tried some fish and chips at Shark Boy Fish and Chips! It's a self serve joint where you order on an iPad but the owner will bring the food out to your table which is nice, self service water drinks and utensils. Casual vibes. We got the hungry combo with fish, cajun fries and a buttery piece of bread, and a hungry combo with coleslaw and bread. The bread slice was so good! I also like how they give you an option of two sauces, I liked the tartar and chili garlic oil the best, bang bang was a runner up. Only reason I have 4 stars is I prefer my fish to have a crispier thicker batter, the batter looks spiced but has a very mild flavor, and the Cajun fries were not very seasoned. I prefer a heavily seasoned crispy thick batter which is definitely personal preference. read more
The most amazing fish ever that i've tried. I was really craving some good fish and chips, and I did not want to drive far like to San Francisco or Monterey Bay, and this is when I found Golden Catch, the owner seems very passionate about his food, and takes his time making sure each order is made perfectly. I got the fish tacos with garlic fries, which WOW garlic galore. And my partner for the hungry meal one, that comes with fish, shrimp and fries. Everything was delicious and fresh. The location is good a near 880/101 freeway. And there is indoor and outdoor seating. read more
Visited on a Ftiday night and the place was busy! Parking was available in the shared lot. We ordered through a kiosk. Food came out in about 15 minutes. The fries were delicious, fish a bit salty for me but the texture and coating was perfect! Prices a bit up there but overall a good experience.. read more
I can't believe this place isn't more popular. I got the Hungry 2 Fish 4 Shrimp which was DELICIOUS. Everything was made fresh in front of us. The owner was a G and hooked us up with some free sauces to try. Highly recommend getting the garlic sauce and having it with the shrimp. Definitely coming here again read more
Golden Catch Fish and Chips is truly a hidden gem in San Jose! the service was topquality and the workers are incredibly polite and attentive. The place was very comfortable with lots of seating including patio seating. The fish and chips were fresh! And you can see they cook everything to order. I like that you can choose a single piece of battered fish if you're not too hungry. Everything was cooked to perfection and their homemade tartar sauce was so good. I wish they had malt vinegar but literally just me being picky! 10/10!!!!! read more
A hidden gem definitely worth checking out if you want to find the best fish and chips spot in San Jose. They have a back patio with the wall painted with nature and animals so it feels like you're camping. Especially if you go later in the evening where the ambient overhanging lights turn on. Service was amazing, shoutout to the owner Hoody for getting us settled. - Shrimp sliders - 10/10 juicy and perfectly cooked - Shrimp sandwich - 10/10, pretty much a longer version of the sliders. - Fries - 10/10 perfectly seasoned. Most places when they offer seasoned fries, they're too salty and/or soggy from all the sauce. Not this place though, each one perfectly cooked and flavorful. This place also offers over 5 different sauces to choose from. Not pictured: - Hungry combo (fish, shrimp and fries) - 10/10. The fish is perfectly costly in an equal layer. They're thin cuts of Baja fish but the way Hoody fries them, the flavor and juice is still maintained. - churros - 10/10 it comes with ice cream to dip the bite of the churro. I help recommend coming here to try it out. We'll definitely be returning in the future. read more
