IB's is a new cheesesteak and burger place that opened up on the Alameda near SCU. It is right next to Akita Sushi and a few stores down from Ike's Love and Sandwiches. It's pretty much a takeout place other than a couple of small tables outside. The service was nice and friendly. I only saw it after already picking up sandwiches elsewhere. But wanted to check it out. I got a watermelon lemonade there. I will definitely be back to try their cheesesteak and burger! Support your local business. read more

Got 2 steak and 1 chicken cheese steaks. The flavor and seasoning was good but with both steak sandwich's half the sandwich was chewy tendon and gristle. Yay I'm glad that IB's made their way to the South Bay! This location is in a weird spot with difficult parking but once you get past that everything is all good. The menu is quite nice. They have a good variety of cheesesteaks, burgers, fries, loaded fries, chopped cheese and specialty cheesesteaks. The prices are a little on the high side but I would say that the size of the sandwiches and quality of the meat and ingredients make up for it. I got the chopped cheese sandwich which is ground beef, American cheese, grilled onions, burger sauce, lettuce and tomatoes on their hoagie roll. The sandwich itself is very good and flavorful, it has a hefty amount of ground beef and the burger sauce compliments it well. It is a tad bit on the salty side and I wish the bread was toasted as it got soggy quite fast. Other than that the sandwich is really good. The customer service here is nice, they are friendly and efficient. I will definitely be back when I need my chopped cheese fix and to try some of those specialty cheesesteaks. read more

Greasy but tasty. I am not a cheesesteak connoisseur whatsoever as this is probably the 2nd or 3rd cheesesteak I've consumed in my entire life. I went with the mushroom cheesesteak but also tried my friends' original, garlic, and chopped cheese flavors. My favorites definitely were the mushroom and garlic flavors. They were the most flavorful ones, as the original and chopped cheese were more reminiscent of a cheeseburger of sorts. It's a heavy sandwich but a tasty one at that. I just wish it was a bit less soggy or for them to use less oil. Small line when we went on a Sunday night, but they were fairly quick with making and taking orders. Minimal seating outside the shop and no seating inside. Such a strong an delicious smell that comes from the restaurant which really lures you in. Slightly on the pricier end as well. read more

I have been to their Berkeley location many years ago. This location just opened up less than a month ago. Abraham is super friendly and gave good recommendations. I ordered the cheese steak and waffle fries with chilli. The fries were piping hot and pretty good. It might be helpful to have a different container as the heat kinda makes the box "melt-ish". The chilli might help to be in a different container. The sandwich had really good bread. I would allow for the sauces to be a separate container as well. Friendly folks -- while in line, guy asked if we'd been there before, and when we said no, he very enthusiastically pointed out the sandwiches they're known for. Storefront's tiny, they have plastic tables outside for dining. It was too cold to be eating outside when we went so we took ours to go. Onion rings: 5/5! So crunchy (even after a 10 min drive home) and perfectly battered. Highly recommend! Chopped cheese: I've never had a chopped cheese before and I'm not a burger fan, so I didn't think it was anything special. Spicy steak: 5/5. Loved this. I love most cheesesteaks tho. Bread's soft yet sturdy, great level of spicy, very saucy, great ratio of ingredients. There were mushrooms, even tho the menu doesn't say so. Maybe kitchen's mistake, who knows. My only complaint about the food is that it started feeling disturbingly greasy about halfway thru. I am thrilled to have IB's here in Santa Clara! I've been grabbing my cheesesteaks from IB's in Berkeley for about 14 years now so to now have them close to my home in Sunnyvale is exciting and much easier. The place is fitting and will definitely make lots of noise in the community. It's the perfect location and eatery for this college campus and hip neighborhood. The cheesesteak still tastes the same as the original location and has that gooey texture. The garlic fries are still on point with lots of that garlic flavor. Seriously amazing burgers and fries! The spot itself is small and cute, has a huge menu with lots of options from cheesesteak, burgers, different fries, and even vanilla milkshakes! I ordered a plain cheeseburger and was amazing by how flavorful the burger was! The meat was so rich and juicy, and the bun was nice and soft but toasted to perfection. Also got cheese fries (waffle which were AMAZINGGG) and the cheese was so hot and delicious not from a can at ALL. The tenders were not good but it's about the cheesesteak. Not much parking but students can walk/bike from Santa Clara University. Lots of boba shops next door to get a drink with your food. There's no inside seating so might be cold outside and not many tables. There isn't too much parking in the area and the shop is a little small, but there is some seating outside the store. Having lived in Pittsburgh for a few years, I love cheesesteaks but unfortunately have had a hit or miss (mostly misses!) experience with the cheesesteaks I have ordered here in the Bay Area. I came across this place on Yelp and decided to give it a try when I finished from work late one day. The menu is pretty extensive with cheesesteaks, burgers, and a variety of fry options on the menu. However, the key factor in the menu was the option of lamb as a choice of meat instead of chicken or steak. I'm not a huge beef eater but I also don't think that chicken provides the same flavor as steak when used as a substitute compared to lamb so I was really happy they had that option. I got the original and buffalo ranch with a side of bacon fries. Everything was delicious with the meat being tasty and the roll being of good hoagie quality, which can make or break a cheesesteak as I have learned with other places. I want to be clear that this place still doesn't serve that truly authentic philly cheesesteak that I used to have in Pittsburgh. However, because this place 1) serves lamb as an option, 2) is open late, 3) has an extensive menu, and 4) is as close as you can get to the real thing here in the Bay Area, I am still willing to give it five stars. read more

Surprised! Food was good and served piping hot. I had the bacon and beef cheesesteak with mushrooms and hot peppers and it was the first time I had had a cheesesteak with mustard which was fantastic. came here around 7pm, pretty busy, i saw the orders through their screen and it was packed lol. not A LOT of street parking but there is parking along the road if you go further down, there isn't a designated parking lot or anything so you have to park on the street. i got the garlic fries, and chopped cheese, both were super flavorful and honestly i used to get this a lot while i was in berkeley and im glad that they opened one in the south bay. this is a decent sandwich/burger spot and i highly recommend if you're craving something super good, they have tons of options. there are also outside seating, the place is fairly small so waiting inside would get crowded if you're trying to wait for your order to be finished. they call you through a receipt number but they don't have a speaker outside or anything so you would have to carefully listen. read more

I recently noticed that IB's on Yelp's Hot & New restaurants. I needed to quickly grab food for lunch and saw that IB's already offered online ordering. I was about 10 minutes out from IB's and placed an order for 2 original Philly cheesesteaks with "the works" and made one of them a combo including a drink and fries. Loved that you could order any style of fries - regular cut, curly, waffle - even tater tots. My timing was perfect as I only had to wait a couple of minutes for the food after I arrived. One of the cooks was really cool. He acknowledged that it was my first time at the restaurant and genuinely hoped the food was up to par. In fact, the food exceeded our expectations. What makes or breaks a sandwich is the bread. First thing I said about the Philly was that I loved the bread. It was toasted on the inside but had a soft pillowy crumb that held together nicely especially with all the saucy fixings. Each bite was clean because of the bread. Additionally, the sandwich was flavorful. If I had to be nit-picky I would've liked more steak, but I can't wait to have this Philly cheesesteak again. I'd say the chopped cheese is 3.5 overall, it's well made but doesn't taste like the chopped cheese I got at the Bodegas in Manhattan. The garlic honey sando is decent too, with lots of meat and cheese filling. A bit sweet and overpowering with the honey sauce though, so if you don't like that sweet and savory flavor in your food, I'd avoid this. Like another review said, these don't reheat well because the sauce and lettuce will make it soggy, eat while it's fresh and hot! I don't get philly cheesesteaks often so I can't compare the prices to other places. I was able to save a quarter of my sandwich for a snack later, not enough for two meals :) read more

So I drive past this location daily and wanted to check it out. Im so glad I did because it was definitely one of the tastiest burgers I've had in a very long time! My family was also very happy and enjoyed it all. It was a pickup order even though they have delivery available as well. The price however is a little high, averaging between $12-$14 a burger. The only thing I would say I was disappointed in is that the seating and parking is limited. IB's has done it again. I already left a review after the first time I went shortly after they opened for the cheese steak. Today I grub hubbed the other sandwich I'd been hearing about, the chopped cheese with the works. I was not disappointed. In fact I think I like it better. That burger sauce was a bit of a game changer. Sandwich is moist, juicy, savory, flavorful. I had it delivered so I could eat it while watching USA men's hockey beat Sweden to get to the semi finals in the Olympics. But I digress. I highly recommend. First time here and I ordered the teriyaki cheesesteak with waffle fries and a fountain drink. The cheesesteak was delicious and super filling. I only made it through half of it and the fries, so I've basically got another full meal waiting for tomorrow. They definitely didn't skimp on the fries either. The place was really clean, and I even noticed one of the staff members wiping down the fountain drink machine after helping all the customers. Been wanting to check this place out for awhile. Went in for lunch on a Monday. No line (before 12om) and ordered the cheesesteak with mushrooms and sweet peppers (and all the veggies). Definitely a heavy sandwich but wanted it abit more "seasoned". Wish it wasn't as wet/moist/oily as I got it to go so could have been the steam as well. So, I want to preface this with I had a good experience the first time I went in. This time it was not. Both times I ordered the mushroom cheese steak. However, this last one was so overcooked and dried out that I couldn't even finish the first half and tossed it. very frustrating as they are not inexpensive. May 22, around 5:00 PM, I had one of the worst experiences I've ever had with a restaurant/cashier. This was only my second visit since the store opened. When I entered, I was looking at the menu while the cashier was huddled together with another female employee. She immediately gave me a look that basically said, "Place your order and leave." Within about 25 seconds, I gave her my order, but almost every word I said was met with "Sorry? Sorry?" and a strange expression, as if I were speaking a completely different language. After ordering, I received my drink cup. While pouring soda, it splashed onto my hand, so I asked If I can have a cup for water to wash it. Before I could even finish my question, she interrupted again with, "Sorry, we don't have..." I told her I already knew there was no restroom and that I was simply asking for a cup of water to wash my hand. Once again, I got the same irritated look, and she handed me the cup as if she was angry at me for asking. Then she gave me my sandwich in a to-go bag even though I never said my order was to go. When I asked for a hot sauce, the "Sorry?" responses started again, ending with, "Sorry, we don't have hot sauce." To the owner: I would strongly suggest paying closer attention to what's happening in your store, especially if sales are declining. Good customer service matters, and customers should not feel unwelcome or uncomfortable while simply placing an order. read more

This is the second time we have ordered a sandwich from IB's, both sandwiches we ordered were around $20, which is pretty steep for a sandwich that doesn't have much meat on it. I understand the raising prices of food and everything else in general during these times. But if you're going to charge $20 for a sandwich, make sure that the quality and quantity matches the price.
