    chicken bento
    Michelle Z.

Got the fried chicken bento for lunch and I was impressed by one portion size! There was a huge amount of fried chicken and rice. It lasted me more than 1 meal. I liked the minced pork under the eggs but wish it was less salty/oily. It tasted great with the rice though. The cabbage side was also tasty but a little too oily for me too. All the flavors of the different sides worked well together though. Would be curious to try their dumplings!

Affordable and good quality Chinese food in Sunnyvale! This restaurant was tucked away in a small plaza near the main street. The times I have come here, parking hasn't been an issue, but the parking lot does not offer a lot of spots, so that is one thing to keep in mind. At the front of the restaurant, you have open window access of someone making the dumplings fresh, which is nice to know you're getting handmade dumplings! When I first dined here, my friend and I ordered 3 things to share: stir fried green beans, crab xiao long baos, and dan dan noodles. The dish that stood out the most to me were the green beans as I felt like they're the most flavorful stir fried green beans I had recently. The xiao long baos were good and super juicy, however I didn't taste too much of the crab flavor. Dan dan noodles were standard but I liked it came with its own chili sauce that you can also take home! I would say the portion size for the dan dan noodles were HUGE, 3-4 people could've shared that. We were full and even had leftovers for both of us to bring back, all for roughly $20 per person. I would definitely come back to try more of their dumplings and other dishes.

Super hole in the wall find! I haven't had handmade dumplings outside of home, so finding this spot was quite surprising. Most of the dumplings I think are handmade. There are some exceptions (like the chocolate XLB) but I thought most of it tasted delicious - if you don't mind the thicker dough used for the dumplings and buns. I thought it added nice texture although that means you get fuller faster. So we definitely over ordered. If there was one thing I wasn't a fan of, it was the green onion egg pancakes rolls :( I think it fell short on texture since the egg and pancake were soft and in turn soggy in the middle. I was looking forward to this the most thinking it was going to share the same consistency as the green onion pancake typically at Chinese establishments but it did not. I also enjoyed the combination chowmein in addition to the various dumplings. Though, the picture showing thin egg noodles on the app was a bit misleading because we received lô mein noodles instead. Nonetheless, I was okay with it because I love thick noodles. The har gao was also one of my favorites! The skin wasn't dry or too thick and didn't fall apart even after cooking. It also reheated very nicely - a lot of the dumplings we got reheated nicely (needless to say we had leftovers to take home) The custard buns were also a bit disappointing. The custard flavor was light but there was too much starch/flour in the filling so it was goopy and smelled gummy. Food was brought out fairly quick after being ordered. There was only one server waiting on all the tables so things didn't necessarily get missed but took a little bit to get to us, which wasn't an issue because he remembered. Would I come back? Yes :) love me some dumplings!

Delicious little hole in the wall dumpling place, serving hot Chinese food in a dimly lit restaurant. :) You know it's a great sign when you see older Chinese aunties in the shop window expertly wrapping hundreds of dumplings. True to its name, the dumpling selection on the menu is expansive and all the dumplings are really good. They also have other things (non-dumpling) on their menu. There were definitely a few standout dishes and a few I thought were just okay. GREAT (would order again) - hot and sour soup - salt pepper chicken wings - salt pepper fried fish - soup dumplings (xiao long bao) - spicy wonton dumplings - stir fry green beans - pretty much any dumpling on the menu, they're freshly made! - egg yolk and boba black sesame balls Just ok (wouldn't get again) - pan fried soup dumplings (shen jian bao) - green onion pancake - chow fun (noodle) I think this is one of my favorite places for soup dumplings now. The soup had great flavor, the filling held up well, the skin was not too thick or thin and didn't break easily. The other standout on the menu were the black sesame balls, filled with hot gooey sweet yolk and boba. They were freshly fried and amazing! They're not on the regular menu and was a special when I came here (May 2025) This truly is a hole in the wall place located in an unassuming plaza, so it was quite dark inside and the seating and bathroom was limited. Come for the food not the ambiance.

This is a small restaurant tucked on a side street. I came with my family right when they opened in the afternoon and there were other parties that filed in right after. This place operates by ordering through an online system. We opted for two orders of the Shanghai XLB, the cucumber salad, and pork shrimp and chive dumplings. The dumplings were fantastic and very flavorful. The XLB had a mild flavor and was filled with a good amount of meat. The cucumber salad was refreshing and a nice palate cleanser. There are many bits of raw garlic so if that's not something you enjoy, just pick it off because the salad was great. The service was quick and the prices of the dishes were very reasonable. I believe we ordered a total of 10 dishes and paid $120 before tax. The price per dish averaged ~$12 which is a great deal. I'm definitely come back with my family.

Found a really nice hole in a wall dumpling place! This place was a gem, the employees are so nice and felt very homey/family restaurant. Some dumplings are vegetarian or had no meat and they were very special and very clean tasting. I really enjoyed the different types of dumplings we ordered. The hot and sour soup was also a good appetizer for a group. We ordered garlic veggies and these were so good as usual. This place is relatively inexpensive compared to all the other places in the area and is such a great find. We will definitely be coming back as we heard the beef rolls are great and want to try next time.

REALLLLLY good dim sum. However, the shrimp and chive dumplings tasted like soap. 4 stars because those were horrible, but everything else was beyond 5/5. Wait time was a little long, over the expected time on DoorDash for pickup, but I don't mind, the food makes up for it.

I went with a friend who is vegetarian and the menu has a variety of options. We ordered the chive and egg dumplings, eggplant with basil, and the chocolate xiao long bao. The dough used for the dumplings was chewy and tender. The eggplant dish was flavorful and had a nice garlic and basil flavor. The service was quick and the staff was attentive and friendly. The place had a cozy vibe like a family restaurant.

    Dan Dan Fresh Noodle

Came for lunch on the weekend. Epic Dumpling wasn't too packed, and we noticed they service a lot of take-out orders. We got the Dan Dan noodle (8/10), garlic green onion pancake (8/10), and pork and cabbage dumplings (8/10). The noodles tasted homemade, fresh, and chewy. We thought the sauce was okay but needed a little something more. The garlic green onion pancake wasn't too oily, and the garlic was fresh. The dumplings were yummy but a bit small. Overall, very reasonable for the price. Service was friendly and prompt.

    Vegetable Fried Rice with Egg

I was excited to try this place. The menu looked extensive and a bunch of vegetarian options too. Ambiance is interesting and welcoming with scenes from ancient chinese cooking. We ordered a bunch of dishes. Service was super quick. They were good but I did find most of the dishes had a little too much oil and were on the sweeter side. Vegetarian Fried rice 4/5 - It enjoyed it! String Beans 4/5 - a lil oily and tasted sweet with onions Red bean buns 3/5 - more dough than red bean Vegetarian Tofu - 2/5 - was too sweet!!

Yum! Delicious dumpling spot with a few dim sum options. The restaurant is in a small plaza with plenty of parking. The restaurant is decently sized and service was actually very good! Ordered via phone but everything thing else such as payment was done through our server. We ordered 5 items as since the pricing wasn't that expensive, I assumed portions to be small but I was wrong as portions was good sized. The highlight for me was the marinated beef pancake roll and the salt and pepper pork chop but honestly, everything was super delicious. Overall, I'd definitely be back. A good spot with delicious food and phenomenal pricing. Service was also good and fast!

    2. Pineapple Chicken Fried Rice with Cumin
    Lyn D.

First time here - They have friendly staff. The food u fortunately was not so good at all! We had the Pineapple chicken fried rice with cumin, no flavor at all. This is one of our favorite fried rice and so we know what it is supposed to taste like, so disappointing. The dumplings, no flavor at all but chives. Dry and there was no sauce given which in most places they have a special sauce. Overall, we do not recommend this place for those who like authentic food this would not be the place.

    Kathleen L.

My brother and I were in the area and was looking for some food. Saw Epic Dumpling on Yelp and decided to give it a try. This was a hidden gem, a little hole in the wall. My brother and I were seated right away and to order, you would scan the QR code. We ordered: - Hot and Sour Soup - Braised Chicken Feet - Shu Mai - Fried Tofu - Popcorn Chicken - Pork & Cabbage dumplings - Molten Lava Bun Everything we ordered was pretty good. Just our hot and sour soup came out not that hot, just a bit warm. But, everything else came out hot and we enjoyed the food. Was it the best dim sum? No, but it was pretty good and no complaints.

Ironically, I'm not a fan of them myself--they're a bit too eggy for my taste. When it comes to dim sum quality and service, I honestly prefer Koi Palace. The food quality there is more consistent, and the service is much more phenomenal. The only things this place really has over Koi Palace are the lower prices and those black sesame custard buns my friend loves! I've been here at least a dozen times, and the food can be hit or miss. Sometimes dishes come out cold, like they've been sitting out for a while instead of being served fresh and hot. That said, there are a few items we always order that are consistently good when brought out fresh like salted crispy pork chops, siu mai, shrimp rolls, and fried calamari. Be prepared for a wait on weekends since it gets crowded. If you're coming with a large group, it's best to arrive before noon. The restaurant is located next to a hotel, and finding the restroom can be confusing since it's inside the hotel. Service is also pretty minimal--they seem understaffed, and I almost always have to flag someone down just to get basics like soy sauce, chili, and water. I don't understand why they don't just have the sauce on the table for guest to dip, but I get that they're saving $ on controlling the cost down. On my most recent visit, the experience really went downhill. Our table had food but no soy sauce, chilli nor water, and when I flagged a waiter multiple times, he got visibly annoyed and irritated. It was frustrating--we shouldn't have to chase someone down repeatedly for basic condiments. Being met with attitude for that honestly left a bad impression. That experience alone makes me reconsider coming back. Good food at a good price is one thing, but poor service--especially to that extent--can really ruin the overall experience.

Shrimp dumpling - Large, the skin broke on some Siu-Mai - good / ok Tofu skin roll - one of our favorites Chicken feet - four large chicken feet, plump, tender and tasty. excellent Shrimp rice roll - good, portion is on the smaller side Steamed rice in lotus leaf - good Turnip cake - large pieces, texture is on the harder side Egg tart - very good Although I appreciate the dim sum push carts as it's more traditional but probably because the first batch of items sat for a while in the cart, they were not as hot as I'd like compared to 'cook to order' places. The restaurant filled up nicely around noon which is good to see, dishes from regular menu we saw on other tables looked interesting and served in good portions. Food was generally good. I love the hot sauce they have at the table. We literally devoured it! I had forgotten how delicious the stuffed peppers were - they still taste great! I saw the reviews and at first I was skeptical because of the great reviews. Anything above 3.5 for dimsum places has me questioning whether it's legit or not, but this place was surprisingly great! Local people know where it's at! It seems like a small size family owned restaurant, not as big as the usual dimsum places like Koi Palace. There's a good number of tables inside, but not quite made for parties bigger than 6 because it could get squishy. Also, because it's a small shared plaza (mostly restaurants at the corner where Joyful is located at), there's a lot of shared seating area outside as well for people who just want takeout. And this was kindly advised for people who didn't want to wait for indoor seating. We came around 11AM for an early lunch right after hiking around Coyote Hills and there was a small wait already. For my party of 5, I'm guessing we waited for 15 mins or so. Not too long, just enough time to look through the menu and decide what to eat. We ended up getting: - Shiu Mai - Chicken Feet - Sticky Rice in Lotus Leaf - Steamed Bean Curd Skin - Fun Gao Dumplings - Black Sesame Dumpling - Salt & Pepper Chicken Wings - Chinese Broccoli with Oyster Sauce - Cucumber - Pan Fried Turnip Cakes - Fried Taro Puffs - Baked BBQ Pork Rolls - Pan Fried Pork Vegetable Buns - Pan Fried Turnip Cakes ...So quite a bit, but for a table of 5 this is a pretty reasonable amount. Of all the things I've tried I have to say my favorite few items were: 1) Fried Taro Puffs because filling to crust ratio is perfect. It had plenty of yummy filling. Because it's made fresh, it wasn't too oily either. It had a really nice, satisfying crunch when you bite into it. My mom, whose quite a picky eater had high praises for this one! 2) Baked BBQ Pork Rolls. The skin was flakey and it almost reminded me of a pineapple cake if it was made fresh. The skin is a little buttery and there's just enough BBQ Pork to give it a hint of sweetness. 3) Chicken Feet. It was saucy, but not too sweet. I can't pinpoint what I liked about it exactly, but sometimes chicken feet can have a weird smell or too much black bean in it. I think because this was made fresh, it was just enjoyable as is. 4) Chinese Broccoli because they're pretty generous with the amount and there isn't an overwhelming amount of oyster sauce mixed in. 5) Black Sesame Dumplings! This was a nice slightly sweet dessert to end to our meal. There was plenty of grounded peanuts and coconut shreds. The glutinous layer wasn't too sticky that it sticks to your teeth. Although I think they could have put in more black sesame filling, I think they made this pretty well and it was really reminiscent of some of the desserts I had in Taiwan. Service was really great. Although I think there's a little more foot traffic than they could handle, they handled the crowd fairly well and very politely. They sat people in tables in the same order that people came in (this doesn't always happen with bigger dim sum places). All the dim sum was freshly made and although I didn't describe all the dishes, I think they were all generally great. There's just some I'm more biased to and some I enjoyed more. I'm so glad that this was a great turnout for my family! We all really enjoyed Joyful Dimsum!

The mango pudding was delicious and reminded us of childhood, and the shrimp noodle roll was great. Lowlight: I was less happy with the xiaolongbao - there are so many good options for these in the South Bay that this meager interpretation was frankly bordering on blasphemy. I would not order those again. The steamed char siu bao were far better but still could've used more pork in the filling and were slightly soggy and over steamed. We also had the beef chow fun which was excellent with smoky wok hei flavor. Overall a good place for dim sum but avoid the xiaolongbao.

Fine dining, Chinese style…read more The exterior of the building is unassuming, you would not guess the beauty and atmosphere and experience that awaits you on the inside! This is our family's new celebration restaurant. You know, the place you go to when out of town guests come and you want to treat them. The place you go to to celebrate a birthday or special occasion. The first time we came was for dim sum, which was soo good! I like that they still do carts and you get to experience the steam that tells you it's fresh. The interior design is beautiful, refined elegances, with marble flooring, chandeliers above, bright lighting, big screens where appropriate, numerous private rooms and details even in the bathrooms. It is a banqueting venue with ample space for weddings and large events. Our family particularly love their large round tables that can accommodate up to 12, as sometimes it's hard to eat all together at 1 table. When we were there for Chinese New Year celebration, they had a special menu with different selections to choose from. There was also a large party going on, where they were able to partition off the main space for privacy. Also there was a Tesla test driving promotion out front. Definitely good business to partner with other services like that, knowing their clientele. Overall, highly recommend this beautiful restaurant. Of course, it is on the high end of dining experiences, but for special occasions, I think it's worth it.

We went on a night it was raining, so the restaurant wasn't crowded, and we weren't rushed away. Noise levels were great for an adult conversation at a reasonable volume. Service and attention was at the perfect level - not too much, but enough where our tea and water were never empty. As for the food we tried several dishes and enjoyed them all. * XLB: very juicy and tasty - I like the skin was a bit more substantial than DTF (I know, thinner is supposedly "better"), and the size was a lot more substantial than DTF (XLBs are way too small at DTF) * Pan fried XLB: This was perfectly executed and very tasty and juicy * Shanghai stir fried noodle: I didn't find this special, but it was just well cooked and executed and very tasty * Pork steamed dumplings: Hit the spot, nice and tasty - great sauce on the side that went with it (or maybe the sauce was for another dish) * Dry fried string beans: Deliciously cooked * Pork ribs: These were excellent, and I believe a special menu item - tasty, soft but with a bite, and nice and sticky with flavor The XLBs were the most "special", but we enjoyed how delicious the food was overall. This is a nice addition to Castro Street with plenty of parking all around.

We were greeted right away. Very friendly. Pan Fried Dumpling - 3/5 first place I tried that actually has a lot of soup in it! However, the soup was not good. It was really salty and didn't pair well with the rest. If you ignore the soup, it's really good. Braised Kaofu Gluten Salad - 5/5 so good! Finally found a place that has this. Braised Beef Noodle Soup - 2/5 not a huge fan. Probably just a preference thing.
