Sweet and spicy y pork

Soupy, juicy, flavorful. The pan fried pork juice bao at Mr. Bao Kitchen Cuisine in Mountain View is my new favorite. Absolutely loved it. We also tried the crab and pork xiao long bao and the chicken bao - both solid. The string beans and egg chicken noodles were decent but nothing to write home about. The real star? Those pan fried baos. Crispy bottom, soupy inside, packed with flavor. Nothing much about ambience but service is fast and great. Must try if you're a bao fan. Worth coming back just for those.

Shanghai Style Stir Fried Noodle

We decided to have a quick lunch date at Mr.Bao for our Valentine's Day. We got there 5 minutes before they opened at 11:30am on a Saturday and they were already seating people. A few tables already had people seated and we got seated right away. The music they had playing was giving us asian massage parlor vibes. Lol. Ordering was quick., we ordered.. SHANGHAI STYLE PAN FRIED PORK BUNS (6) $12.99 -very hot and juicy. The meat was tender and seasoned well. The buns weren't oily but the bottoms weren't crispy either...they were more chewy. 3.5/5* SHANGHAI STYLE FRIED NOODLES W/ SHRIMP $15.99 -also have options of veggie or chicken. I enjoyed the thick, chewy noodles. The shrimp and veggies were fresh and crisp. Simple but I enjoyed the nice wok aroma. 4/5* PORK XIAO LONG BAO (6) $12.99 -hot and super juicy. The dumpling skin was delicate and thin. The meat was tender but a bit under seasoned. 4/5* Overall everything tasted very fresh and the food came out pretty quickly. Service was friendly and they came around to check on us. I would come back again if I was in the area!

Drunken Chicken

The restaurant was cute with a viewing window of chefs making bao. I thought all the food was very flavorful. I would probably not order the cucumber again - it tasted very fresh, but I feel I can make that at home. The drunken chicken was fair, but my mom thought it could have been better. We liked the pan fried bao and the noodle soup most! We would definitely come back.

This is a new xiao long bao and shen jian bao place in mountain view. I know somehow people associate Shanghai with xiao long bao but for me shen jian bao is more of the soul of Shanghainese fast food. I grew up with them so I'm picky about them. I think the shenjian bao themselves only deserve 3 stars because not only it needs more white sesame seeds (get rid of the green onions) outside but also something is missing in the meat inside. I have a feeling they use similar filling for xiaolong bao and shen jian bao but they are somewhat different and the filling needs less meat taste but more of a filling that enhances the bun but not take away from the buns because the soul of shen jian bao is the bun and the charring of the bottom of the bun (upside down). The service is really good and the place is surprisingly spacious. I charring is good but the buns flour mixing is too light (don't know how to describe it) and too fluffy. It needs slightly more chewiness and the filling needs more work but decent enough. I've decided to give this place 4 stars even though strictly speaking the food is 3 stars. The location is hard to as it's below the street level but you shouldn't miss it if you look for it.

Summary: Very, very okay eats Details: I can't tell if the high reviews for Mr Bao so far are due to a dearth of options in MV or... but either way, our group of three were all pretty disappointed by the food here. Now, that's not to say the food was awful, but it certainly wasn't worth driving almost an hour for from our respective cities, with plenty of better options just 10-20 minutes north or south of here. The majority of dishes were got were FINE: not inedible, but not mind-blowing either. We had qualms about basically every dish we got though: - XLB were fine, but a little flat in flavor and possibly over-steamed with a slightly mushy dough - Vegetarian dumplings were way too thick, and on the sweet side - SJB were not crisp/crunchy enough, and tasted like fried dough that had started to get a little soggy - Rice cakes were actually probably the best dish, but we usually expected more vegetables with this dish - Hot and sour soup was actually terrible, tasting more like just boiled water with sourness and a lack of actual substance, completely lacking in spice and depth of flavor Bit of a bummer really, given how friendly the staff was, and how much manual labor you can see going into the food here. Maybe an okay option if you live in the area and don't want to trek anywhere else, but there are a ton of better dumpling options elsewhere. Accessibility: Plenty of accessible seating options and space to maneuver around.

Really good food and service. The ladies were friendly and kept refilling or waters. Recommend to everyone. Friday 11:30am was busy. and when we left, was even busier with wait-list. The pan-fried dumpling, xlb, sweet sour pork, gluten, and Shanghai shaomai were great. The rice cake was over cooked so didn't have a good chew, but it's probably a fluke. Wouldn't bother getting the chives in a box as the filling didn't have much flavor.

Ordering was a bit challenging as there was a language barrier. Shanghai noodles combo was excellent. According to the staff, that is their #1 selling dish. The shrimp, pork, and chive dumplings were out of this world good. The fried green beans were a bit raw as one reviewer mentioned. If you intend to go during meal times, be prepared to wait at least 45 min.

Food: 5/5 Service: 5/5 Atmosphere: 5/5 My dad saw that the cuisine is Shanghai food and got excited, so he insisted on speaking in 上海话 to the staff. Thanks to the staff for being good sports about it! The chefs are Shanghai chefs (my mom even pointed out they dress like Shanghai folks LMAO) so the food is pretty authentic although my dad found the meats in the 猪肉生煎包 (panfried pork buns) and in the 上海荠菜大馄饨 (shepherd purse pork w/seaweed) a bit sweet, but I overall really liked them and vinegar paired well with the pork buns. The soup for the wontons tasted really light which I enjoyed. I really enjoyed the 炒年糕 (fried rice cake) - really flavorful and none of them were stuck together, the 馄饨 (the wontons / purse pork mentioned above), and 香干马兰头 (dried bean curd w/ "Ma Lan", which is a veggie that does really well in this dish) - light and refreshing. We also ordered 上海醉鸡 (drunken chicken) which my dad ate a bunch of. Fyi, all the appetizers are cold dishes including the drunken chicken. They were playing light jazz, relatively quiet, in a relaxed atmosphere. Overall loved it, tastes like my 奶奶's food :')

Delighted to find this little gem! We arrived Saturday evening and fortunately a few groups had just left so we were able to get a table. The servers were very attentive and helpful, providing suggestions and specials of the day. One of the specials was the beef noodle soup. My partner and I always try beef noodle soups so we couldn't resist. It ended up being fantastic and hit the spot on the chilly December evening. Fantastic broth flavor that was rich yet balanced; expertly executed beef and bok choy; and addictive noodles. We're beef noodle snobs, and we're happy to give this one high marks. It's a must-get if it's on the menu! Xiaolongbao on point. Delectable and perfectly cooked, and with soy sauce and vinegar at the table. Can't go wrong. Shanghai style fried pork buns were spectacular and a star of the evening. Perfect execution of slightly crispy, chewy exterior, containing hot, juicy, flavorful pork and broth. Wondrous dish and a must-get. Cooled things off with cucumber salad and some Sapporo. If we find our way to Mountain View again -- Mr Bao will be top of the list.

FOOD: 4 SERVICE: 4 AMBIANCE: 4 VALUE: 5 With so many XLB choices in the area, we think this restaurant serves one of the best. What makes their XLB the best? Thin skin, lots of broth and meat stuffing that's not too firm. Their scallion pancakes are just the right thickness with crunchy top/bottom and a mild scallion taste. Their Shanghai style pan fried pork buns is crispy on the bottom, soft and thin on top with lots of "juice" and tasty meat inside. Be careful, the "juice" can be very hot! Service was friendly and consistent, they seemed to want you to enjoy your visit. When you don't want to wait 2+ hours for XLB, come here instead and enjoy your meal.

Came here with a friend from Shanghai to try out their Xiao Long Bao and Shanghai style PanFried Pork Buns. Mr Bao Kitchen is nicely located in downtown Mountain View with free parking lots close by. We came early for lunch and were seated promptly. The restaurant is not too big. It is bright and airy with high ceilings. And the "bao" production can be seen through a transparent screen. The menu is very simple, just two pages. But they do have some specials that are not listed. Service was nice and friendly. We ordered a Pork Xiao Long Bao Soup Dumplings, a Shanghai Style PanFried Pork Buns, a Combination Shanghai Style Fried Noodles (chicken, shrimp, and veggies), and one of the specials which was Sticky Rice Siu Mai. Food came out rather quickly and at a good pace. The XLB were very good, skin was thin and meat was tasty and juicy. According to my friend who's Shanghainess, the taste could have been a little bit sweeter to be more authentic. The PanFried Pork Buns were decent, the bottom could have been crunchier. The nice thing about it was that the meat inside tasted different than the meat inside the XLB. Most restaurants would have used the exact same ingredients. The Sticky Rice Siu Mai was very tasty, I would have preferred a thinner skin. The Shanghai Style Fried Noodles were average. Overall it was a pleasant lunch experience. I would recommend this place if you're looking for some decent XLB.

Called ahead for a table - which they reserved for us - yay! THIN dumpling skins made 10 feet away from where you are eating. Probably my favorite thing about this place is watching the master at work. :) Their non-dumpling items were also yummy and appreciated too! We liked the string beans, fried rice, and noodle (not pictured). They have a few off-menu items available - just ask your server! They can get pretty busy during prime dinner hours, but it didn't seem like anybody was waiting too long for a table.

Came here to eat brunch with a few friends and I thought it was generally decent. The service is pretty fast and the ambiance is nice in downtown Mountain View! But the food itself I want to say is just okay. We ordered the string beans, Shanghai pork dumplings, pork xlb, and crab xlb. Overall I think the highlights are the string beans and pork xlb, and the other dishes are decent but not actually anything crazy to write home about. Definitely I feel like the crab xlb had a tiny whiff of fishy smell, which kind of made me averse to it. But the pork xlb is nice and juicy so if you're seeking specifically those you should go for it! The tea is nice too and it was a pretty nice experience overall. I would definitely try out this place again but I actually feel like this one of the many talented restaurants that have really yummy xlb...

Reservation was easy to make over the phone and you have to preorder duck ahead of time. We also got pan fried buns, bok choy, and mandarin fish. Dishes are expensive but good quality. I read mixed reviews about the duck but I thought it was great - crispy skin and relatively tender/juicy meat. It is the first time I've seen an extra charge for the duck pancake wrappers; it was not a pleasant surprise but at least they were thin and delicious. We opted to have a soup made from the leftover duck and that was delicious. Service was also pretty good; they even packaged the leftovers for us. Unfortunately, the experience was pretty underwhelming overall. The Peking duck was definitely the highlight of the meal -- crispy skin, flavorful, and probably the only dish I'd genuinely come back for. But everything else missed the mark for me. We ordered the string beans, salted egg corn shrimp, xiao long bao, pork buns, cabbage dry pot, and black pepper beef. Most of the dishes lacked flavor and were noticeably oily. The pork buns were especially disappointing because the dough was overly thick and dense compared to the filling. The biggest letdown was probably the black pepper beef. The meat quality was really poor..a lot of chewy pieces with tendons, and it was hard to enjoy because almost every bite felt tough. Definitely not what I expected from a restaurant with this reputation. Overall, aside from the duck, the food felt heavy, bland, and not very balanced flavor-wise. I really wanted to love this place, but it didn't live up to the expectations for me.

Went for Weekday Lunch Special…read more Food - 5/5. Soup was sweet and sour with a bit of umami, mostly from the tomato. Its consistency was standard with a good mouthfeel. Pork chops were savory with a nice bite. The seasoning was just enough to elevate the rich flavor of the pork. The cabbage side dish had a delicious umami flavor that came from shrimp and the potato side dish was soaked in a soy-based sauce that gave it a strong taste. I was amused by the fact that the potatoes were actually french fries, meaning they are being creative with whatever they have on hand. The results were yummy side dishes, so in a way, it showcases their culinary skills. Rice was fluffy and the pickled mustard greens were a great palate cleanser. Service - 4/5. We decided to try the BBQ Whole Catfish with Vegetables to share, along with sides of rice. **The Experience** The dish came out on a hot pot/plate surrounded by lots of chili, which made for an interesting presentation. The fish itself was pretty good--it was tender and not overcooked. The vegetables that came with it were the highlight, as they were nicely flavored and cooked. The sides of rice were a great addition and helped balance out the richness of the fish. While the fish was cooked well, I found the overall dish lacked a bit of flavor. It had a fair amount of oil but didn't bring enough taste to balance it out. The rice helped, but the dish would have benefited from a bit more seasoning or sauce. Service was fast and efficient. The pricing is reasonable, with the BBQ Whole Catfish dish priced at around $48 for the whole fish. With the rice, it made for a filling meal. While I didn't find the dish to be perfect, I'd like to return and try some of their other offerings in the future.
