    Cheeseburger bun

So happy that a new dim sum place opened up near by! I was interested in trying their fish fillet bun, but when I called, they said they don't have that anymore. I asked when they'll have it again, and they basically said never lol. I was bummed about that, but decided to go try some other items anyway. The cheeseburger bun was surprisingly really good! The roasted porky belly had a good flavor and crunch too. Dim sum is pretty average, but I would definitely come back.

We did a big order to try as many things as possible. Overall pretty tasty. Service was pleasant and quick considering the size of our order. We were there around noon on a Sat and they weren't too busy but a few things we already sold out. Considering the day was still early it would have been better if there weren't sold out items. Onto the food itself. The best was the egg tarts. Will definitely go back just for those whenever we have the craving. The usual suspects like har gow and siu mai were both good. The fried radish cakes were tasty. Weren't a big fan of the steam ribs, too much fat. The bake bbq puffs were very good, but sadly they only had 1 order left when we wanted 2. The beef ballls need more seasoning. Usually there's Worcestershire sauce on the side but it didn't come with any. Luckily had some at home which made it acceptable. Overall a solid take out dim sum place that we'd go again.

The full menu is now all enabled!! I tried the shrimp noodle soup, beef chow mein, and pork spare ribs. Everything was delicious. Service is great here. Customers may need to wait a bit for their food, so just be patient. They are now open 9 am to 7 pm ( Mon to Fri) and 8 am to 8pm on the weekend. The bbq meats are available after 10:30am daily. I've been here a few times already, and my family really enjoys Hing Kee.

LOVE THE NEW DIM SUM SPOT IN OUR NEIGHBORHOOD!!! It is a quick pickup spot but there are a few outdoor tables and seats. Stopped by but only to grab some Char Siu to make a dried Saimin for a party. BBQ meats available after 10:30!!! I stopped in around 10am but the woman at the counter had them prepare it for me. I stepped away to pick up some other things and came back to it ready for me to pick up. There is a touch screen kiosk to order. Will definitely need to order the rest of the food stuff. Everything looked awesome and we're excited to try. Will be back very soon!

My wife found this place and wanted to come here and try it but I was very disappointed. Went up to the kiosk to order and almost everything was sold out mid day. In the middle of our order the worker refresh the kiosk because the roast pig was in stock. Luckily we only had tree items in the cart and the worker remembered. The inside was very cramp with no seating indoor. But only one area outside with you tables together. A kid came out with the orders calling out the number and I didn't even know she was working there. Ordered the roasted pig and duck and it didn't even come with bok choy instead it came with soggy lettuce. For $13.99 the plate came with double rice and not even that much meat. The duck didn't have that much meat one it. The duck had hair on it still and mostly bones. The roasted pig wasn't super crispy. I overheard some ordered something and it was sold out so they have to get a refund. I know they just recently open but I think they still need some work to do.

Hong Kong style dimsum in Santa Teresa Square (Nob Hill plaza) run by a sweet family. Authentic and handmade, which I would describe as very homey and family style, not like super processed restaurant quality. The food is not too salty and not like mega portions. You can tell it was made with quality ingredients by people who care. Most loved: definitely the BBQ pork and duck expect $6-7 per dish. A little pricier than restaurant but beautifully handmade. Menu highlights: Cheese and beef bun (tastes like an inside out cheeseburger) and black lava bun (tastes like a thick runny custard bun) Unique selling points: the owners really impressed me with their warmth and hardworking family style. They are new and really just trying to sort out a process with the demand so please be patient. Opening hours: Open 8am-8pm almost every day. Avoid the crowds but going after lunch

I've been wanting to check out Hing Kee- came with my parents at around 10:30am. There was a good assortment of traditional dim sum- sui mai, har gow, chicken feet, turnip cake and a lot more. The BBQ meats look flavorful- we got a soy sauce chicken. The foods tasted authentic. It is a take out place with a table on the outside. It got busy pretty quickly. The staff was friendly, but be prepared for a wait to get your food. I will definitely go back. Want to try the noodle soup, rice plates too.

Dim sum menu [as of 8/6/2026]
    Jason W.

Let me start off by giving y'all my "credentials" lol :D - son of immigrants from China/Taiwan - born and raised in the Bay Area; grew up most of my life in Almaden - currently live in LA, which has TONS Chinese restaurant choices to pick from In other words: I have a pretty wide experience and standard, when it comes to Chinese food I have mixed feelings about Hing Kee, but most of them are things outside their control. This is a family-owned, mom-and-pop, pick-up-and-go dim sum place that HAND MAKES all their dim sum dishes, along with freshly made char siu and Chinese roasted duck and roast pork belly hanging on hooks that you point and they chop up. Dim sum: 4/5 Honestly, it's probably 3.5, but let me explain why I'm rounding up to a 4: They have the traditional/"normal" dim sum dishes like siu mai and chicken feet (鳳爪 ) and Ham Sui Gok (咸水角) and BBQ pork buns, etc. They also have some SUPER unique and rare dishes on their dim sum menu, like "steamed black-eyed pea cake (眉豆糕)" or "cucumber & shredded duck roll (青瓜鴨絲卷)" Taste: 4/5 But here's where some negative things occur...but it's sort of out of their hands: 1) Several of their unique dishes aren't available. Because they hand-make ALL their dim sum dishes FROM SCRATCH every morning, so if customers aren't ordering certain dim sum dishes, they go to waste. So based on the low population of Chinese in the Almaden/Santa Theresa area (as compared to Cupertino/Saratoga/etc.), the less demand they have for their more unique choices, so oftentimes not everything on their menu is available. But this isn't something that's their fault and is out of their hands. 2) Yes, they do run out of their dishes often. Again, it's because the area doesn't have as many Chinese people living in the area, so when you come, you should check out their menu ahead of time and please be flexible if they're out of dishes, simply bc it's hard for them to accurately gauge how much of each dish to prepare each morning, if the demand fluctuates all the time. Again: something that isn't their fault and is out of their hands. 3) Because it's a to-go place, some of the dishes might suffer from taking home. For example, their noodle roll (cheong fun 肠粉) is pretty good! But because it's a steamed dish, when you try to package it into a small plastic clamshell to-go box, the cheong fun sticks to itself by the time you get home. A slight recommendation would be for the cheong fun dish to be packaged in the larger size to-go box, so it's easier to separate when you eat it at home. Again, not a big deal. Recommended dishes: - steamed chicken feet in sauce (醬汁鳳爪) - all the noodle rolls (cheong fun 肠粉) are pretty good! - shrimp & chive dumplings (鮮蝦韭菜果) (I purposely didn't order the "normal" dishes like siu mai, har gow, etc., bc I wanted to see how their other dishes tasted. When I go back, I definitely want to check out their spare ribs, tripe, white sugar sponge cake, etc., as well as seeing if any of their rare dishes happen to be available, such as salty/sweet rice flour crepe (咸/甜薄撑), steamed black-eyed pea cake, etc. Having said all that, why am I giving them 5 stars? Because of 2 reasons: 1) This family works HARD. We went in around Thursday noon and my mom was able to chat with the daughter, and we found out that this a mom-and-pop, family-run restaurant: The dad wakes up every morning at FIVE THIRTY A.M. because he lives in DUBLIN!!! The daughter runs the cash register and she's SUUUPPPEERRR friendly and sweet. And the son is in the back and also runs the meat counter. And you can TELL that this family already has restaurant experience bc the son chops the meat in a really professional way, making sure the meat looks very nice in your to-go box, and the dad really knows what he's doing and is also super-duper friendly & chats away with you in Chinese. 2) Yes, if you're comparing this place to sit-down dim sum places in Cupertino and Saratoga, yes...this place is 0.5 stars below the large dim sum restaurants there. But for Almaden/Santa Theresa, where there's a lack of any dim sum places here, I'd rather go to Hing Kee and save money on gas and time and get dim sum dishes for an AMAZING price! (Seriously, where else can you still find dim sum dishes for LESS THAN FIVE DOLLARS????) And where can you find crispy roast duck or soy sauce chicken or pork belly hanging from hooks in Almaden/Santa Theresa???? While chatting away with the daughter, we asked if she had any recommendations, and she actually strongly recommended their wontons, which threw us for a loop because who orders wontons at a dim sum place? But then she mentioned that they MAKE THEIR WONTONS FROM SCRATCH!!!! So come, if you want to support a hard-working family that gets you at FIVE THIRTY each morning and drives from DUBLIN to operate their mom-and-pop restaurant! But please be patient and understanding and flexible, if they don't have the dish(es) that you're hoping for, all for an AMAZING price!!

My 90 year old mom and I came to Hing Kee Dimsum and BBQ at 6033 Snell (drive over a bridge from Blossom Hill Road), based on the wonderful foodie reviews on Instagram, this take out dim sum place really hits the spot if you're hungry and in the mood for dim sum. The staff here are really nice, friendly and helpful, they remember your extensive orders, too! They brought out a couple of items that were steamed on the spot for us, nice! Their phone number is 408-613-2112 if you want to order ahead of time! This take out dim sum has all of the favorite Cantonese dim sum items you would expect, such as BBQ pork buns, har gow (shrimp dumplings), siu mai (shrimp and pork, beef, chicken dumplings), steamed spare ribs, low mai gai (sticky rice in lotus leaf), plus many yummy items: cheese beef buns, steamed custard buns, black gold lava custard buns, taro cake (coming soon), steamed black-eyed pea cake (coming soon), oyster sauce fresh tofu skin roll, beef balls with tangerine peel, shrimp and coriander dumplings, pan-fried scallion buns, traditional Malay sponge cake, Shanghai soup dumplings, ham sui gok (deep fried glutinous dumplings), shrimp and chive dumplings, deep-fried shrimp and tofu skin rolls, shrimp and spinach dumplings, shrimp wonton noodle soup, bed brisket noodles (soup or dry tossed), baked BBQ pork buns, baked BBQ pork puffs, baked pineapple custard buns, spare ribs dry tossed noodles, shrimp wonton, , baked lava custard buns, baked fish fillet buns, baked chicken leg bun, golden shredded shrimp ball's, deep-fried sesame ball's with lava custard, sugar puffs, egg puffs. For the BBQ items, Hing Kee Dimsum &BBQ offers crispy roast duck (which we waited to be baked that day), scallion oil chicken, sour sauce chicken, Macau -style roast pork belly, honey BbQ char siu pork, honey BBaq spare ribs, Yangzhou fried rice, soy sauce fried noodles. They have rice noodles rolls, shrimp rice noodles rolls, BBQ pork rice noodle rolls, mushroom and shredded duck rice noodles rolls, Siri chow mein or rice noodles, cabbage and shredded duck chow mein, beef chow mein or rice noodles, pan-fried turnip bake, cabbage and shredded duck fried rice, prawn fried rice, sesame taro rice cake, pan-fried pork potstickers, cucumber and shredded duck roll, baked pork chop buns, baked Portuguese egg tarts, baked curry beef buns, salt and sweet for crepes, spring rolls (mom's favorite), shrimp and cheese spring rolls, salad prawn toast, mango pomelo sago (delicious), turtle jelly, and coming soon : glutinous rice ball's and snow skin mooncake. You need to try this takeout, you might want to order ahead or be prepared to wait if it's close to lunch time. We ate in the two tables outside while waiting for our whole roast duck. The food was delicious and well worth the wait. They did run out of one item because we came near 1 p.m., but there is a boba shop right next door called Snow Boba, where you can order a milk tea drink, if you need to wait outside before you get your order. There is plenty of parking, it's in the outdoor mall by Nob Hill Foods.

Delicious food, good prices and amazing staff!! The inside is small but there's several tables outside to wait at or eat on. Happy to have this new spot so close to home on the south side!

I really wanted to like this place after seeing so many reviews on Nextdoor, reddit, yelp, etc. Perhaps they may be better known for certain dishes, but I found a lot of their items were hit or miss. Hits for me were the pork siu mai, the oyster sauce tofu skin roll. The misses were the lo mai gai (rice consistency was too sticky and stuck to both the lotus and paper wrapper), the siu mai with the corn (couldn't tell if it was chicken or beef, but the flavor had a strong peppery chestnut flavor somehow), all the baos (dry), beef rice roll (all wrapper, no meat), and egg tart (the custard had a strange chemical taste). The dough for the bbq pork bun and the black gold lava custard bun were both dry, and there was barely enough custard in black gold specialty bun. The ones I thought were okay were the spare ribs, although a bit fatty, the Teochew-style dumplings, and the char siu pork. Unfortunately, I couldn't order half pound sizes, but the char siu was also dry. I wanted this place to do so well that I came back again as I thought the first time may have been a fluke since they were out of so many dishes. Honestly, the second time was only slightly better, but dishes took longer to come out since there was a longer line. While it's nice to have a dim sum place closer to home, and you can tell some of these are made in house, the dishes are missing a certain finesse and quality that you might get in a sit down dim sum restaurant. I will say service was pleasant though, and they were very gracious to explain each of the dishes in the display. Also a warning with the summer heat, the shop front is very small and warm as there food displays take up most of the room and they have a swamp cooler type fan trying to cool things down that takes up a lot of space as well.

Food is great, however the ordering process needs to be more efficient. I'm sure they'll have this resolved as a settle down after a month of operations. As others mentioned, arrived at 11am, found many items sold out. Not a good start.

    Not what I ordered.

That's unusual for my girls and I was so happy they ate! I put away the dumplings & green beans. There were plenty leftovers for the next day lunch. The food was a touch salty. However, not enough to be deterred from going back. Small and yet spacious place. The 4 stars is simply because my go to dumpling place cannot be beat. Altho I'd rather eat here for the wonderful servers & ambiance compared to dingy Dumpling Capitol. We were stuffed and not able to indulge in the dessert dumplings. If you're going to be paying $60-$70 for two people, you would at least expect your food not to be burnt and the staff not be rude! I have been looking forward to going to this place for two years, it was a birthday dinner and I was so disappointed by my experience. I understand that it's downtown San Jose and we came in the evening, so maybe that's just how closing staff is. First off when we were seated, I asked to be moved to a more comfortable's table because the chairs were really uncomfortable for me. The staff seemed irritated and said "I guess" which was the first red flag because it's nerve-racking enough to ask for a special request and to be met with an unprofessional answer like that was disheartening. Secondly, two orders of dumplings came out burnt, which was seriously disappointing. We could barely eat them. We didn't end up finishing them. I brought this up to staff. He told me they weren't burnt and that's just how they are. I know the difference between burnt and browned and these were definitely burnt hard on the bottom and inedible. He begrudgingly told me well "I'm sorry but you'd still would have to pay for another order". I don't think that's fair at all so I said "it's fine were ok" I don't wanna give this company any more of my money anyway if this is how they treat their customers. Lastly, once we were done with our food and paid the check, the man came back to our table and asked us if there was anything he could do for us and how if we enjoyed our meal this felt like a slap in the face after everything I've already asked of him that he refused and denied and being met with a disingenuous offer just felt petty. All in all, I wouldn't go here if you're looking for food that is not burnt Service that is helpful and hospitable. Andexperience that is anything above fast casual dining.

This was a typical Cantonese style eatery where you would get together for family gatherings and/or to celebrate events. The decor had the usual elements that you would expect from such a place: crystal chandeliers, fish tanks, gold columns, and giant TV screens. We tried their 10-course banquet-style dinner that they were advertising for $488 (before tax) and I believe this special was only available on weekdays. Portion sizes were extremely generous, and they did not skimp on the ingredients either. The banquet courses included delicacies such as suckling pig, geoduck, whole fish, and lobster to name a few. This meal easily fed ten people, and we still had plenty of leftovers to take home. It was such a great value that towards the end of the evening the restaurant sold out of their banquet special. Overall, the food was pretty good...even though they did overcook the lobster. They have their own huge parking area, so it was super convenient. The dining area was very spacious. The service was casual and efficient. I went to dinner with no expectations, so I was pleasantly surprised. This place impressed my family that they even came back the next morning to try their dim sum.

Everything we ordered was good - there wasn't anything that I didn't like. The variety makes it especially fun when you're with a group since you can order a bunch of different things and share everything around the table. Also, the cart servers are truly superwomen/men! I'm not sure how they move those carts around so quickly lol. Definitely part of the fun of the whole dim sum experience.

For me, the Crispy Rice Noodle with Shrimp! These were purple for some reason... but SO DELICIOUS! Even with the donut inside, it wasn't soggy at all. The Beef Chowfun was also incredible and seasoned perfectly. My least favorites were the dumplings personally... the wrappers were just way too thick for my preference. So I would suggest anything else, especially the seafood!

My most recent visit [Saturday 08/22/26] was so very disappointing!!…read more Came here to enjoy brunch with my family. Our entire party consisted of 6 people and although there was a lot of hustle and bustle, we were able to be seated fairly quickly regardless of us not having reservations. I came here anticipating a wonderful experience and assumed I would be wowing my family with their very first visit with HL Peninsula Restaurant. While the visit was something they wouldn't soon forget, it wasn't exactly over something positive. Menus were provided and the young gentleman asked what kind of tea we wanted. We responded with the typical "chrysanthemum" and went on with viewing the menu. We meticulously wiped down the dinnerware and the tea pot arrives. Cups are filled and a bug is found floating in one of the cups. Since there were a few gnats flying about in the restaurant, I just assumed the gnat landed in the cup and died. I flag an employee and hand off the cup while requesting for a new one. New one arrives and I fill it up with tea. Again, THERE IS ANOTHER BUG. AT THIS POINT I KNOW FOR A FACT THAT THE BUGS ARE COMING DIRECTLY FROM THE TEA KETTLE. Our entire fam stopped drinking the tea and I am forced to flag down yet another worker- this time someone more higher up. The gentleman immediately nods his head and grabs the tea kettle. NO APOLOGY, NO QUESTIONING MY ALLEGATION, NOTHING!!! Another staff member comes out with another tea kettle of chrysanthemum and I immediately decline. I request to have jasmine instead. Good move on our part because the jasmine loose tea was not bug infested. Brunch consisted of: * SALT AND PEPPER CRAB [LIVE CRAB @ 2.2LBS] * PENINSULA HOUSE FRIED RICE * SWEET & SOUR SPARE RIBS W/ FRESH PINEAPPLES * A4 WAGYU BEEF + ASPARAGUS W/ BLACK PEPPER * SHRIMP DUMPLING * PORK AND CRAB ROE SIU MAI * CHRYSANTHEMUM TEA Food was honestly really good. The tea situation was terrible and it says a lot when the employees didn't even bat an eye about the bug complaint. He calmly nodded his head and took the tea kettle which tells me the staff knew there were bugs in there. The biggest issue is not receiving a simple "sorry" over the disgusting mishap and me knowing damn well that HL Peninsula Restaurant will continuously serve that bug infested loose chrysanthemum tea. Do better, y'all. With all the money that you guys make, you can manage dumping that bulk tea purchased from China.
