Ambiance
Pranathi B.

Excited to see another dough zone, this time in Campbell. I have been to the ones in Cupertino and Almaden before so I knew what to expect. *Ambiance and service: restaurant is L shaped but spacious enough. They can seat large groups by combining tables. Decor is contemporary with the exposed wood and fluted design. They have options for QR code based ordering, paper menu with pictures and a small menu card to mark our options as well. Since they just opened, the service was attentive. We got our orders quickly and they kept refilling our waters and checking on us often. *Food: I like dough zone and that's the reason I chose this as one of the restaurants to take my parents to on their recent trip to bayarea. And thankfully they enjoyed the food! What I like the most about this place is that it has a lot of options and the serving size is small and prices to match the portions. This allows us to order and try a large variety of dishes. They also have a more than decent selection of vegetarian and chicken options, this is especially important for people like me with a limited palate. We ordered around 12-15 dishes, the common theme across the board- * most if not all dishes were decent. * some of the noodles dishes like yibin and minced chicken were a bit salty. * the noodles needed more cooking and were raw in some places. * the soup dumplings flavor felt too fatty or chicken forward. It needed a sauce and we didn't get one. * happy to see fried rice on the menu but it was unfortunately a bit dry

The service here is absolutely fantastic! The person over the phone was very friendly and helpful! Providing me with more information about this business! The ambiance is nice and has a great atmosphere! The prices are great and that is one of the best things about this place! Aside from the amount of noodles you get, that is the only thing I feel like is over priced. The taste of the food is delicious!!

We come here for dim sum whenever I'm back in my hometown. My kids request it because they know…read morethey will get consistent and tasty dim sum every time. On top of that, the restaurant is huge and service is always attentive. We have never had a bad meal here. Sui mai and har gow are juicy and plump, all the other staples are solid as well. My nephews woofed down at least 5-6 sui mai each, the love it there!

I'd give this place 3.7 stars but rounding up…read more We had a variety of dim sum dishes and they were mostly very good, though not exceptional. The decor and ambiance is nice - very spacious and elegant. You can join the waitlist from Yelp - always a plus. Highlights: the har gow were plump with large pieces of shrimp and minimal filler. The dumpling skin was on the thicker side (I don't mind it but my wife likes thinner skins.) Maybe that was needed because of how big these were - really packed with shrimp. The mango pudding was delicious and reminded us of childhood, and the shrimp noodle roll was great. Lowlight: I was less happy with the xiaolongbao - there are so many good options for these in the South Bay that this meager interpretation was frankly bordering on blasphemy. I would not order those again. The steamed char siu bao were far better but still could've used more pork in the filling and were slightly soggy and over steamed. We also had the beef chow fun which was excellent with smoky wok hei flavor. Overall a good place for dim sum but avoid the xiaolongbao.

I have not been to Lei Garden in a long while. This used to be our weekly weekend brunch spot but…read morefor some reason, we stopped coming here. Anyway, we were shopping in the area and decided to stop by for a dim sum lunch. The restaurant was not very busy so we got seated right away. We placed our order via the order sheet. No carts since it was a weekeday. We had our usual Char Siew bun (steamed), Soy sauce Chow Mein, Chinese donut rolled in soft noodles, pan fried chive dumplings, Lo Mai Kai (steamed rice in lotus leaves), stuffed peppers, and sesame balls. This is one of the few dim sum restaurants that serve the stuffed peppers. Food was generally good. I love the hot sauce they have at the table. We literally devoured it! I had forgotten how delicious the stuffed peppers were - they still taste great! Steamed Char Siew bun was a little disappointing - too much bun (bao) and not enough filling. The char siew was also rather tough and tasted rather bland. The chinese donut in steam noodles was good and the chow Mein was tasty. Sesame balls (my favorite dim sum dessert) was not too bad. could have been better if it was warmer. Service was OK. I feel that the servers are sometimes rather grumpy - could be the reason why we stopped coming here. Prices are also a little steep compared to what you got - smaller portions.

My partner has been looking for a good braised tofu dish. I've been to Lei Garden for dim sum…read morebefore but this was our first time for dinner. Plenty of parking during dinner time! Interior is nicely decorated. There were maybe a few other parties dining in, and some takeout orders too. A huge contrast from their packed dim sum weekend guests. We had the braised tofu and the house pan fried noodles. They gave us some pickled cabbage as a palate cleanser too. Tofu was perfectly braised, flavors were all there. Pan fried noodles were nice and crisp. Everything was delicious. Service was prompt. We wound up taking the pan fried noodles home as leftovers, good portion sizes. A tad expensive, but good quality and taste. They brought us a nai wong bao (custard bun) as dessert after the meal, really nice touch.

Tai Pan Dim Sum Bakery is a childhood classic, but I haven't been in quite a while. I stopped by…read morearound lunch time, and there was a short but quick line infront of me. Ordering in mandarin worked well, and we paid in cash before going outside to eat elsewhere (there's no longer a table with chairs inside. For the two of us, we definitely over-ordered, but its easy to get carried away. -#1 dimsum set: comes with 1 porridge, a charsiu bun, a meat bun, 2 shrimp dumplings, and 2 siu mai. The siu mai are great, and stuffed with meat/filling. The shrimp dumpling had really thick wrapped unfortunately, and was almost crumbling. The charsiu and meat buns were good, but seem to have less filling now than before. We opted for the fish porridge, which was piping hot and comforting, but lacking in white pepper and ginger. -Turnip cakes: these were cold unfortunately, but good once reheated at home. Nothing outstanding but does the job -Taro puffs: these were also cold unfortunately, but the shell was still perfectly crisp. They also do sometimes have the distinct taste of ammonia due to the ammonia bicarb used in the lacey shell - I saw some reviews saying it was due to spoiled meat but it was likely the batter instead. Overall, Tai Pan is still relatively good prices for the amount of dimsum you get, but the quality isn't as great as I remember - I'd consider coming back for some porridge and siu mai if I'm in the area and looking for some quick takeout dimsum.
