Not the same Mayflower that I went to growing up but this place did NOT disappoint. We were in the mood for dim sum on the way to the T&T grocery store opening and yelp brought us here. We walked in right at opening to a completely empty dining room. Instead of leaving, we browsed the menu and ordered XLB, pot stickers, jelly fish, and pea sprouts (my personal fav) so glad we didn't leave! The XLB are a nice size, with each precious dumpling cradled in its own foil wrapper for maximum soup retention. The potstickers were full of flavor, packed with protein, delicately wrapped, and had the crispiest, golden bottoms! Jelly fish was fresh and the pea sprouts were a hit! The poor owner answering the phones made sure (in all languages) to inform folks calling in that there were a different May Flower than the other place-felt terrible for her but also understood the importance of differentiating right up front. I can only imagine the number of misorders they have probably dealt with. By the time we were done, the dining room was filled with a mix of what seemed like regulars, locals, large groups of families, small groups of friends... this feels like we stumbled upon a tiny hole in the wall restaurant where everyone who has been before just knows the quality and taste they are going to be getting! Mayflower was the first Chinese restaurant I visited when I moved to the bayarea. After more than 15 years I decided it was time to check them out again. This is one of the handful of American Chinese restaurants that stood the test of time. As is typical of these places, there was an old lady manning the counter and also acting as the server. And as is typical of these places, there was table at the end where they were prepping the fruits and veggies. It's truly remarkable how they are all similar in these ways! We got a couple of dishes and they came out at lightning speed. * Chowmein-3/5- delicious with lots of umami flavor but shockingly greasy. I mean I am used to oily noodles but this one exceeded some limits. *crispy salt and pepper eggplant-3/5- I had a stellar version of this dish at another restaurant in Sunnyvale and was stoked when I saw this on the menu here. Unfortunately it was a poor representation of the dish I loved there. The batter was too much and the dish felt heavy. There wasn't much interaction with the waitress besides when she brought our food. We ordered the string bean with beef, which was good, the combo chow mein and combo fried rice, pot stickers and the chicken with chili sauce. The food came out super quick besides the potstickers. Those took a while. I liked all the food besides the chicken with chili sauce. It's a cold app and I didn't really like it but my gf did so that's okay. There are about a dozen tables and the biggest table I would say fits 6 so any more than that you might be at different tables. It's a little hole in the wall place and overall decent. I took a star off since there wasn't much service. Terrible service, okay food. My family and I have been coming to May Flower for years, before and after the ownership change. The food has ranged from acceptable to decent - depending on the dish you get. Recently we went back and the female waitress, (who I do not believe is part of the ownership), treated us terribly. Between complaining that we came in before she was ready (it was a few minutes past opening already), to scowling at us when we asked for water, then subsequently slamming the water cups down - it was an all around absurdly bad experience to remember. Discovered this gem on TikTok and I've been here twice in the last month. It's easy to drive by it without knowing what you're missing. Food: We ordered 4 dishes for 2 people both times we came. There was enough food to take home. Our favorites were the string beans with beef, wontons with hot sauce and the chicken fried rice. Every dish had a different taste to it and we liked the variety of flavors Service: You come in and they'll tell you where to sit then you scan the QR code to order. They serve you hot tea while you wait for your food. We waited less than 15 minutes for our food to start coming out Both times we came there were other people but still enough places to sit. Suddenly, I craved for their Spicy Seafood and Beef Noodle Soup 海鮮炒碼麵 and discovered the decor refreshed. Cleaner and brighter. Wall hangs some high-school art projects and was interesting. We also order Shanghai Salted Vegetable Fried Rice In Clay Pot 上海菜肉飯 and Family Styled Tofu 家常豆腐. All three were well done. The clay pot particularly so: rice crisp, salted meat just so with some prickly pepper flavor, veggie kind of sparse. Note these are spicy dishes. Love coming here with a group of friends because it makes it easy to try a variety of dishes. The food is usually consistent and there's always something new to mix in with our usual picks. Service can be hit or miss depending on the day but it doesn't take away too much from the overall experience. Our go to order always includes the tea roasted duck and fried rice which never disappoint. Last time we tried the Chongqing fried chicken and it was really good. I've gotten take out here twice in the past 2 weeks and both times, the food was really good and inexpensive. I found this place because it was one of the few places opened on Christmas day, and it was super busy. They had one employee doing everything from taking orders, cashier, seating people, waiting tables. We came back a week later to get take out again, and it was also just one employee working doing everything. I don't think the service was rude as some other reviewers mentioned. They were nice and helpful both times, and I got my food at the time it was promised. The restaurant was small and can be really cramped if there are people eating and a ton of people waiting in line to get their orders. Looked at the reviews before coming. Service seemed quite promising. We went with a decent amount of time before their advertised closing time. We went in, all signs said they were still open, and the employees rudely announced that they were closed and shooed us away. We came here for Lunar New Year and found the small restaurant full of people celebrating. We were able to snag a table and we're given a free pot of hot tea. Ordering is done by QR code system and our dishes arrived quickly. Mayflower is far and away the best Chinese food I've had in San Jose and it isn't particularly close. I've loved this place since I first came around five years ago, and after countless meals here my appreciation has only deepened. Many restaurants have one or two dishes that are really good, but from top to bottom the menu at Mayflower is great. Every time we try a new dish I half-expect it to finally be the time we get something mediocre and yet it still hasn't happened. I could never come here without getting an order of the Salt & Pepper Fish Fillets. I'm not even a big fish person, but this delicious is absolutely incredible and if you take only one recommendation from me, let it be that. The Wok-Fried String Beans, Wontons with Hot Sauce, and Ma Po Tofu are also staples that my wife and I order basically every time we come but the deliciousness certainly doesn't stop there. Beef Chow Fun, Mongolian Beef, Garlic Pork Spareribs, it's all great. Mayflower is a top five restaurant from me in the whole South Bay, and I would recommend it in a heartbeat to anyone looking for amazing Chinese food. I wish there was some honor above five stars that I could bestow upon them, but alas, this is all I can do for this exemplary establishment. read more

Finding this restaurant on Yelp was the best thing ever! It's a small hole in the wall restaurant in a semi busy complex. Doesn't look like much from the outside. When we walked in we were quickly greeted by the server. She sat us down and told us to order on our phones via their QR code. The menu was super easy to navigate and had pictures for all the dishes I believe. We got spicy chicken, chicken chow mein, pork fried rice, green onion chicken (she accommodated this in place of beef) , and wontons in spicy sauce. Everything was exceptional, so so flavorful! If we had to choose our favorites it'd be the chow mein, rice and the spicy chicken. The spicy chicken is to die for. I normally have a high tolerance for take out; as it can never be as good as dining "in". First of all, I will give high marks for the Sesame Chicken, Fried Fish Fillets and Salt and Pepper pork chops. Pot Stickers were OK, but the skin was very thick. HOWEVER - Terrible chicken salad. This is the only reason I am writing this review; I was actually shocked! when I opened the container that cost us $9.95. In general, Chinese Chicken Salad should HAVE sliced lettuce, sliced red cabbage, shredded carrots, green onion, sliced almonds, with "chunks" of chicken, and maybe some fried noodles mixed in. A dressing that has a mixture of soy sauce, vinegar, sesame oil, ginger, sugar etc... What did May Flowers Chicken Salad have? None of the above (except for the chicken). OF COURSE there are variations in the ingredients, and I am happy to try every restaurants Chinese Chicken Salad, but the "core" ingredients are usually always the foundation of a good Chicken Salad. The overall "visual" of Chinese Chicken Salad is a julienned mixture of vegetables. Please see the picture below; this is what we received. I think the prep time was 1 minute, enough time to make the chicken "bits" hot, and to break off a chunk of Iceberg lettuce. Come on May Flower!!!! You can do way better than this. This spot really surprised me with how good the food was everything was cooked just right with a nice balance of flavors that didnt feel too heavy or bland the staff were incredibly kind and patient explaining the menu and giving suggestions without ever being pushy or hurried the place had a cozy vibe that made it easy to relax and enjoy the food the timing of the meal was well paced so nothing felt rushed or too slow which kept the whole experience smooth from start to finish what stood out most was the genuine friendliness of the people working here it felt like they really cared about making sure we had a good time the portions were satisfying and each bite had a nice texture and flavor that showed care in preparation all in all it was a nice experience where good food and warm service came together naturally read more
