    Wonton noodle soup
    Julie S.

Tried out China Chen for the first time a month ago. My husband and I had to go back again. We really enjoyed the fried flour cake with egg. The shrimp wonton noodle soup with egg or rice noodles (or both) a really hit the spot. Serve is very efficient.

This place holds some nostalgia for me as I used to come here often as a kid. I went back for the first time in a long time to see how it is now. Everything is very similar. The service is decent. They were able to help whenever we needed something. The food was good. My favorite thing to get here is the bot chien. I definitely recommend it. I always get hu tieu and it tasted just like I remember. The restaurant itself is old and not the cleanest. However, it's something I'm used to and sometimes the best food comes from places like this.

Phoned in my order while we were only 5 min away and then I waited about 8min for the entire order to complete for take out. Service is fast. I love their noodles. Even take out still taste really good. Both combination egg and rice noodles are my favorite. If you up the size for combination egg noodle, price is $14.95. Combination rice noodle- $13.95 Don't forget to collect points with cash app by entering your phone number. After this check out, I realized I earned enough points for $10 off next time.

I can't believe that I only tried this place today. The egg noodle was well cooked with a sweet and savory broth. The thin slices of Chinese barbecued pork was a good add. And I really appreciated the use of whole shrimp in the shrimp wontons. The service was fast and responsive. And the ambiance is that of a Chinese noodle shop.

    Hu Tieu with wontons

The Hu Tieu was excellent. The broth was a bit too sweet for me, but I enjoyed everything as a whole. The shrimp in the wontons were super springy. I could have just eaten a bowl of them. The rice and wheat noodles were perfectly chewy. I recommend getting both types of noodles to maximize your experience. The bot chien was a huge portion. I wish it came out first. I was halfway done with my soup before these arrived. They were solid; no complaints.

The service was ok, typical run down Chinese service where it's not the best but that's how you know it's good. The restaurant was clearly not the cleanest but again, that's how you know it's good lol Mi trieu chau: 10/10 amazing flavor and sooo comforting. The noodle texture was perfect and the meats and fish balls added a good touch. I will say their choice of cabbage is not as good as something softer like bok choy

I always take my son here for the noodles and chicken--it's his favorite. He actually finishes his food every time, which says a lot compared to other places nearby. The noodles are tasty, the soup is comforting, and the food is consistently good. Definitely a spot we keep coming back to.

I'm somewhat sure they take phone orders, I think the workers were speaking Vietnamese. It's like a small family restaurant in terms of appearance; a lot of tables and not a lot of walking/waiting space. The chicken soup tastes very nostalgic to me, like flavors from the 90's. I ordered a "large" shrimp wonton soup to go. There were 3 bite-sized average-tasting wontons. The pork was sliced very thin, not something i'm used to, kinda bland; there were a lot of noodles though.

This is a staple comfort noodle soup for me! China Chen serves Chinese/Vietnamese noodle soup and its reminiscent of what I've had in my childhood. I love the combination of rice and egg noodles, so I had to get the Shrimp Wonton Rice and Noodle Soup. Thin slices of char siu (pork) is also included and the broth was flavorful. We also got the beef ball rice noodle soup and it was also delicious.

The soup was nice and light. The fried flour cake was perfectly cooked; crispy on the outside, and soft on the inside. Limited street parking, some spaces require payment. Good customer service. Clean restaurant.

Shrimp, wonton, and sliced pork egg noodle
    Lu T.

This is an old-school Vietnamese/Chinese noodle house. Not bad, a little sweet on the broth, I usually like it more savory. I ordered the shrimp wonton soup with sliced pork, and it was pretty good. The bowls are a little small, but it carried me through the afternoon. I also added a limeade soda. Decent. The atmosphere is a diner style and there were plenty of seating. Service was good and prompt. I do recommend if you're in the area looking for some egg noodles.

How's the parking looks like? How hard to find a parking?

not too hard but the city has been taking a lot of parking spots out for bicycles. still worth looking for a spot down the road for free, but parking meters arent too pricey nearby

What are the Top 3 dishes a new customer should order here? Is it cash only or do they accept credit or debit cards?

    1. Shrimp wonton egg noodle 2. Fried rice flour cake 3. Fried shrimp wontons…

Does the dry version of noodles come with sauce?

They come with a salty seasoning, but not a sauce like other restaurants. Most people use the many different sauces on the tables for the dry version.

    Basic pasta meal?

It is more similar to a bowl of ramen or pho where there's noodles, soup, and proteins on top.

    Are their egg noodles organic?

Do they make their egg noodles?

It doesn't look like they're home-made egg noodles.

The broth for the noodle soup even with the vegetarian and seafood options, the base of the broth veggie?

Sorry, but our soup bases are not vegetarian for those bowls or any other ones.

Do they still serve pho ap chao there? (Crispy chow fun noodles?)

Unfortunately due to the length of time it takes to cook, we no longer serve the ap chao. If you do see me next time, mention this to me and I may be able to make an exception for you for old times sake!

Do you guys take credit card?

Yes! we take all major credit cards like Visa, MasterCard, Discover, Amex, and Samsung Pay. We hope to accept Apple pay within the next few months

What's the best time to go in to be able to find easy parking?

I'd say weekdays hours outside of lunch time. Dinner time doesn't get too busy so that works too.…

Between Saigon and Hanoi, I went on a full-blown bánh cuốn quest, trying different spots almost daily. Street stalls, little hole-in-the-wall shops, famous spots--you name it. At some point I stopped being a tourist and became a rice-roll inspector. So yeah... my standards are unfortunately very high now. The best bánh cuốn I had in Vietnam was paper thin and almost translucent, with this delicate chew that somehow breaks apart and melts in your mouth. That's the texture I'm chasing. Coming back here, the rice sheets were noticeably thicker and didn't have that same delicate texture. They also weren't as fresh and warm as I remembered, which makes a huge difference with bánh cuốn. This is one of those dishes that's at its best when the sheets are freshly steamed and hit your table warm. The meat filling was also underwhelming and not nearly as flavorful or savory as another bánh cuốn spot I've had in San Jose. With a dish this simple, there's nowhere to hide--the rice sheet, filling, freshness and nước mám chấm (fish sauce) all have to work together. It's certainly not bad, and I can understand why people enjoy it. But after eating my way through Saigon and Hanoi in pursuit of the perfect bánh cuốn, this one is kinda meh for me now. My old review gave this place 4 stars. Vietnam ruined me.

They also have good chicken phở, broken rice, vermicelli noodles, spring rolls, roll-your-own options, and plenty of soups beyond phở. You can order individual dishes or share family-style, which makes it especially easy when coming with a group. It's very casual, family-friendly, quick, and straightforward--nothing fancy and probably not where I'd choose for a date night. But for a dependable meal with family or friends, it's a great spot. Kids like it, parents like it, and my mom likes it--which says a lot coming from an older Vietnamese person who knows her Vietnamese food! The staff is always efficient and nice, and after all these years, the food remains consistently good. The biggest downside is parking. As I got further into the bowl, however, the flavor started to feel flat and lacked the rich, slow-simmered depth I expect from a restaurant that specializes in this dish. It tasted more heavily seasoned than deeply developed, so experienced bún bò Huế fans may find it underwhelming. The meat was also not as tender as I would have liked, and the congealed blood--usually my favorite part--was overcooked and dry rather than smooth and tender. I didn't quite enjoy the Hu Tieu, but my friend liked the soup! It's a little too plain for me. I do love the feeling and texture of eating thick, round rice noodles. I ordered their egg rolls and banh beo for catering which came with lots of fresh herbs/lettuce, fish sauce, and other toppings. Pricing was very affordable as well for the quality. I have also frequently gone into their store to enjoy a nice plate of com tam or bun thit nuong which has always been great. They provide their nuoc mam/fish sauce on the table and always are attentive. Restaurant is large and can accommodate a bunch of tables. Parking is also on a big plaza so didn't have trouble parking.

It's not outstanding, but it's definitely enjoyable. Unfortunately, the service ruined the experience. As soon as I sat down, I hadn't even had a chance to look through the whole menu before the server kept touching my shoulder and repeatedly pressured me to order. I found it very rude and uncomfortable because I really don't like strangers touching me. The older lady did it to everyone in our table, and she didn't seem to realize she was making our entire group uncomfortable, and it affected our whole dining experience. So, would I come back? Absolutely not. One visit was more than enough. I'm not willing to deal with that kind of pushy service again.
