Lanzhou Noodle Soup
Kelli K.

Delicious and hit the spot. I'm obsessed with hand pulled noodle! I was glad to see this restaurant here. Ordered two noodle dishes and both were great. Dish 1: Great broth flavor and well made noodles. Not too salty Dish 2: Yummy bok choy and minced meat

Theo G.

It's bland. Thought it was just the soup, but then tried the dry chili oil with braised beef and also the soy bean paste with thin noodles and they barely have any taste. These dishes are missing some sort of crucial ingredient that could elevate it.

#11 - Soybean Paste Dry Noodles (with Pork) = all mixed in!

Ox 9 VF TLDR: Great hand pulled made-from-scratch Chinese noodle bowls. Reasonable prices, Friendly service. Intro: Located in the NE corner of the giant food court at the massive Westfield Valley Fair Mall is Ox 9, the fifth outpost of this Chinese hand pulled made-from-scratch noodle chain here in the Bay. You'll find the Ox 9 right next to the Popeye's in the food court. My visit: I've enjoyed their noodles at their original location up in San Mateo, and the offerings here are just as good, despite the busy food court vibe. With every noodle bowl, you get to choose between four different styles of noodles as your starch. Thin or thick round noodles or narrow or Wide Flat Noodles. Since I'm a big fan of Chinese Chow Fun, the Wide Flat Noodles were a natural choice for me. There was a short line when I got there, and the help here is friendly and courteous. Scan the menu, place your order and get a number. Within 3 minutes, I had my order and the search was on to look for an empty table to enjoy my meal. My order: #11) Soybean Paste Dry Noodles (with minced pork) 9.5/10. Super Yummy. Flavorful plate that walks the line between savory and mildly sweet. Given the hot weather outside, I chose this non-soup noodle plate is served slightly warm. As my order was the to-go version, I mixed in the Pork and soybean paste into the noodles myself a scoop at a time into the wide flat noodles that I chose for this order. I really loved every bite. The paste can be a bit oily, but you can separate the oil yourself with the to-go version. Either way, I would not hesitate to order this again.I've also tried their beef noodle soups, and they are very good too! Verdict: Yup.. Ox 9 is a solid choice for a good meal here at Valley Fair. Even with all the strong competition from great eateries inside this gigantic mall, Ox 9 remains one of my top favorites.

This place is located in the mall's food court and is more of a counter-service spot. I ordered the braised beef stew noodle and it was actually really good. Comforting and flavorful. The service was good too, quick and friendly. A solid option if you're grabbing food before or after shopping.

Fast service but long wait time. We sat for a while and had to routinely check our numbers because they dont call it out. The food was spectacular though. Noodles bouncy, soup tangy and spicy. It came out burnin5got so make sure to be cautious if serving to others.

We ordered two noodle dishes, and both were pretty tasty! The noodles had a nice chewy texture. Really enjoyed the fried calamari from the appetizer menu--it was tender, juicy, and perfectly crispy on the outside. Highly recommend that one!

This spot is in the food court and it's the best spot in the food court. They're fast & convenient & the soup remains really hot. I definitely recommend getting the hand-pulled noodles - it's very filling!

Beef soup with Lanzhou Hand-Pulled Noodles/兰州牛肉拉面

Maybe the experience is better at the restaurant, but the noodles at the mall location was meh.., I ordered the #1 which is their signature noodle soup. The soup base was just ok. The noodles were all stuck together into a ball so it was hard to separate initially. The beef brisket slices were tender but there were only a few thin slices. So definitely not a good value.

quick and friendly service! i got my order right away after ordering (wait around less than 8 mins) m i got the dry noodles chili oil with everything on it (meat and vegetables). it was delicious!! however i don't recommend the chili oil noodles if your stomach is sensitive to spicy!! your stomach will end up hurting anyways the noodles were nice and chewy! meat was tender!! surprisingly good for mall food court

Pork Burger

Food came out very quick. Ordered at a self-serve kiosk. I forgot to take a picture of the noodles before I started eating them, so normally there are more than pictured. The noodles were described as spicy, but it was only a fairly mild spice. Regardless, very tasty! The Pork Burger was juicy, but did not have a ton of flavor. It's possible that it just seemed mild compared to the noodles, but either way it just didn't impress me much compared to the noodles. Overall, definitely a good, quick option in the food court!

Wanted Ramen Nagi but got denied due to long queue. So went to food court and tried Ox 9. It wasn't bad. My wife tried the tonkatsu and I had the beef stew. Ordering was quick and the food came out at a decent time. The soup was good quality and temperature was hot. I just didn't like it well enough. Since it's in the food court it was very lucky of us to get seats. Just a busy place.

Fried calamari
Jazmin P.

So the good .. the food itself was amazing! I liked observing the gentleman creating the hand pulled noodles as he was stretching and swirling the large dough around. The calamari was delicious and paired nicely with the sweet and savory dipping sauce. The noodles were definitely fresh even the texture biting into them was so soft and tender. The bad .. nothing against the establishment but as I was sitting in the mall court area eating .. I saw a cockroach run across the table I was eating at ! I was grossed out and left . I would go into the actual restaurant next time and not the mall to have the full experience.

Came here while shopping around Valley Fair. I was in a rush, so I don't think my review would be fair to this place, I will talk about my experience at the time. The broth was boiling hot, so it was difficult to eat in a rush.i thought the noodles were bit too hard. Would not recommend this place if you are in a rush.

We waited for probably 15-20 minutes which wasn't too bad. The place is pretty big and fits a good amount of people. The food was great. They have also opened a location in Cupertino that is more convenient for me. Adding Mian to this plaza definitely livened it up, it was so difficult finding parking and then there was an hour wait when we joined the waitlist. We wandered around Grocery Outlet and Savers to pass the time. I came with a group of 6 people. We ordered the sichuan spicy fries and fried chicken cutlet to share. The fries were the spiciest item I had that day, wow! I ordered the Sichuan chicken cold noodles, extra spicy. They were not spicy at all. I left everyone at the table try them and they all agreed it was not spicy. Kind of disappointing, I expected them to be spicier than the fries at least. My partner had the chengdu zajiang noodles, mild spicy. They were good, the signature dish of the restaurant. I would return, but their spice levels are very inconsistent.

Personally, I would prefer less grease in the stir fried dishes. I can still recommend every item we got: - Kung Pao Beef: super tender beef sautéed with some chilis and a lot of different crunchy veg for a textural experience. Love the more unique baby corn and water chestnut in this dish - Stir Fried Eggplant: don't mistake this as a health dish - it is absolutely glistening with oil. But that's part of what makes the eggplant so tender and flavourful. Give me a bowl of rice and this dish, and I'm a happy girl - Black Bean Noodles: we upgraded to the large size bowl for $5 extras. It was plentiful to share for 3 people. Generous amount of sauce was provided so every bite was coated in umami goodness Lots of families hanging out in this moderately sized restaurant. It can have a loud energetic environment. The staff and very friendly, though like a typical Chinese restaurant, expect to flag them if you need anything. Though the portion size is for one person the quantities are very generous and can be shared or boxed up for later. We got one plate with garlic chicken and chow mein and another with fried rice and Mongolian chicken. The chow mein lacked wok hei and felt a bit fish saucy. The fried rice was plain and simple but delicious nonetheless. Between the garlic and Mongolian chicken, the Mongolian chicken reigned supreme.

We knew to go early, since they don't take reservations and we often see lines outside. We arrived at 10:30am and the front manager said if we can be done my 12:30, that they had a table for us. Party of 12, since we got there early, we agreed. The side room had the biggest round table for us. They ask you what kind of tea you want, we like chrysanthemum tea. You order the items on the paper menu and it comes to your table. So we got going on the orders and TBH, we must be hungry, because we did a lot of orders (we had plenty of left overs). Tried some favorites and a few new items that we thought were unique to their restaurant. My dad has to order crispy noodle and chow fun, and we also ordered chicken fried rice. The service was prompt and attentive, with enough servers to take care of the side room. Since it was the "sun room", the sun was shining through the windows and it was bright. Review from my parents: it was just meh, they prefer the other place near our house. I think the food is good, but probably won't come back again with a big group of us, since they don't have many big round tables. And personally, I prefer the whole experience of the ladies coming around with their carts. Perhaps their dinner menu is also worth trying. Bonus for us is that we can literally walk to this restaurant. Parking could be an issue if you come later.

Ironically, I'm not a fan of them myself--they're a bit too eggy for my taste. When it comes to dim sum quality and service, I honestly prefer Koi Palace. The food quality there is more consistent, and the service is much more phenomenal. The only things this place really has over Koi Palace are the lower prices and those black sesame custard buns my friend loves! I've been here at least a dozen times, and the food can be hit or miss. Sometimes dishes come out cold, like they've been sitting out for a while instead of being served fresh and hot. That said, there are a few items we always order that are consistently good when brought out fresh like salted crispy pork chops, siu mai, shrimp rolls, and fried calamari. Be prepared for a wait on weekends since it gets crowded. If you're coming with a large group, it's best to arrive before noon. The restaurant is located next to a hotel, and finding the restroom can be confusing since it's inside the hotel. Service is also pretty minimal--they seem understaffed, and I almost always have to flag someone down just to get basics like soy sauce, chili, and water. I don't understand why they don't just have the sauce on the table for guest to dip, but I get that they're saving $ on controlling the cost down. On my most recent visit, the experience really went downhill. Our table had food but no soy sauce, chilli nor water, and when I flagged a waiter multiple times, he got visibly annoyed and irritated. It was frustrating--we shouldn't have to chase someone down repeatedly for basic condiments. Being met with attitude for that honestly left a bad impression. That experience alone makes me reconsider coming back. Good food at a good price is one thing, but poor service--especially to that extent--can really ruin the overall experience.
