    Bone in beef rib
    Tsfo E.

I'm a pho newbie but my hardcore Vietnamese friend swears this place has the best pho in SJ. He ordered the bone in short rib for me and the prime ribeye for himself. I have to agree, the pho was silky and the meat just melted in your mouth. It's a must try if you're a noodle foodie!

This was my first time visiting with my friend, and it was a nice surprise. The seafood noodle dish was delicious I forgot the name, but I really enjoyed it. The beef pho was okay. I like that they have karaoke and allow customers to sing, which makes the atmosphere fun. I enjoyed the music while eating. The service was friendly and helpful, and the environment was welcoming. I'll definitely come back and would recommend others to try this places

Everything was amazing at Pho John! The food was fresh, flavorful, and came out perfect. We ordered the chicken pho, tiger prawn noodles, and spring rolls... every dish was delicious. The broth in the pho was so rich and comforting, the tiger prawn noodles were packed with flavor, and the spring rolls were fresh. Great service and great atmosphere too. Definitely coming back again!

They were having a grand opening so my bf and I stopped by since we were close by looking at the fishing gear stuff that was close to them. The menu looks extensive with their classic pho dishes, bowl dishes, etc. originally I wanted their BBH but they told me they didn't have it yet and to come back. Honestly, I'm so glad I got their pho bc their broth was helllaaa good. It tasted so good, and I got it with their fresh thick noodles! Brisket was high quality and my bf really loved it. Service was friendly and they even stopped by to ask how the plates were. Usually the pho places doesn't usually ask lol. Anyways, I'm excited to come back to try their BBH!

Veggies that come w/ the Bo Ne

Place I think is very good quality wise that I would normally rate this a 4/5 but there's just so many small nitpicking that drops them down to a 3/5. Bo Ne - 3/5 Came only with mushrooms, fries, some thin slab of "prime rib" and a side of lettuce+onions+tomatoes so overall the combo was really weird. I was thinking it'd come standard with a baguette or some rice. Prime rib I think came out half tender half tough so not sure if leaving it as a big giant slab of meat was the best idea for this. Fries were pretty unseasoned, there was like 0 sauce on the plate so flavor wise, was only on the meat itself. Pate, more sauce, and baguette probably would have rounded this out. Pho - ?/5 Did not have but honestly the presentation and color of the broth made it seem very high quality. It came with lots of meat as well which is always a plus. "Wagyu" Bo Luc Lac - ?/5 Also only slightly tried this; love the char and tenderness but realistically this is overpriced and they'd be better off going off to some "cheaper" meat and making that tender and it'd basically be the same thing. Cleanliness - 1/5 I think I saw a dead bug in all of their ginger jars. Service - 4/5 Pretty attentive for a viet restaurant; even with the owner coming out and explaining dishes. Overall a very quality-forward place; but they still need to work out some of the dishes and the place itself.

    Bun cha Ha Noi

We were unlucky as we went on a day that they sold out of Pho at 2PM. It's still beyond me how a Pho House sold out of Pho, so we wanted to leave and go to Pho Đang across the street as they are our Fav, but got sold to must try their famous Bun Cha Ha Noi. it's was light and delicate , missing a smokiness of the grilled flavor but it light enough that you can drink the sauce. Owner and staff are friendly, but not much else I could say since we didn't get to eat what we came for. Perhaps a sign on the door to say Pho sold out so we don't need to come in. I feel bad for the group that came in after they would sit them and gave them menu and later told them no Pho, now that they sat down they actual got sold just like us...was that the best Bun Cha Ha Noi we ever eaten, the answer is No but would I come back ? probably yes , and for sure now that I must since I still need to try their Pho. Hopefully we can update with more star after:

    Yummy pungent pickled garlic

A perfect bowl of pho means that I do not feel like adding condiments to except the mint, sprouts, jalapenos, and lime juice. Living in the bay area all my life, unfortunately, that's a huge rarity. But Pho John passed the test. Excellent, flavorful bowl of Pho with all the fixings, served up by an incredibly welcoming staff. Healthy portions of tender brisket, beef balls, tendon, you-name-it, it had it, brought together by a wonderfully seasoned both. You must be insane to open a pho place in the south bay in 2025 with all the competition, but this bowl of pho I had spoke to the confidence they have in the quality of their food. First off, the waitress Yen asked me whether I wanted my bean sprouts blanched first.... what? No pho shop ever asked me that question. Big green flag. Doing this removed some extra gaminess from the bean sprouts that I usually don't like while also keeping the bowl nice and hot and preserving the texture. Second green flag was the northern-style fresh wide noodles that were a joy to chew on. Awesome texture. Third green flag was the pickled garlic condiment that blew my mind. A perfect contrasting pungency that took the great bowl of pho over the top. This is a family-run restaurant that clearly cares about differentiating itself through its quality, thoughtfulness, and customer service. So so happy to find Pho John and can't wait to go back with friends and family.

The food was amazing! Everything was seasoned perfectly and I enjoyed the service here at Pho John. I will be coming back!! Thank you so much!

    Pho with the ribs

The pho here is pretty good. It has good brother and the flavor is great. Apparently there's no msg. I got the pho with the ribs with meat balls. The service is good but we were the only ones there. The service people are nice and provided us with anything we needed. It's nice inside. Only con was the price. It's $19 per bowl

    Cơm Bò Lúc Lắc (Wagyu)
    Linh N.

Final Thoughts: 3.50/5 To round up, this will be a soft 4 star. It's hard for me to give it a solid 4 star though because of the items provided. Major concern with pricing, but I'll get to that in a second. Experience wise, it was quite pleasant. The owner came out to speak with us and the servers and waitresses were nice right from the beginning. Overall, not bad. Food: Cơm Bò Lúc Lắc: 4.1/5 They advertised this to be wagyu beef, so let's start there. The meat is super tender; nice medium rare. Hard for me to confirm that this is wagyu since it had a similar mouthfeel to other restaurants where I have tried this dish. These chunks of meat are satisfying because they're thick and juicy. The sauce or marinade they used was delightful. Nice balance of sweet and saltiness and satisfies my tastebud preferences. This dish comes with a hefty portion of white rice. This mixed with the sauce on the plate was chef's kiss. There were some vegetables with this plate, but I could really only enjoy the lettuce. The tomatoes and cucumbers looked ever so slightly wilted. Perhaps it was an heirloom tomato and they just naturally look as such, but I digress. Bò Né: 3.4/5 **Note that this dish does not come with bread** When I think of this item, there are a few staple ingredients that come to mind: beef, paté, egg, bread on the side, and garnished with cilantro. Love that the plate was nicely sizzling upon arrival to the table. Main items were the piece of beef and egg. They had mushrooms, onions, fries, and a side salad. Seems so Americanized. Flavor was alright, but I think it needed more sauce and perhaps a different starch. Flavor wise, the meat was nicely seasoned. Nicely medium rare upon arrival, but does get dry as it cooks. The meat is kind of thin too. For the fries, 100% needs some salt on it because these were not seasoned at all. Again, this is where more sauce comes into play. For the side salad, there is a vinaigrette of sorts on it, which adds a nice tang and freshness. Contributes well to the dish if I'm looking at it as a whole. Phở Sườn Bò Đặc Biệt: xx I only tried the broth and the broth itself is really good. Nice flavor, very light, but has a deep flavor to it. The broth is quite transparent, so perhaps they do a really good job with skimming the foam. They stated that this broth doesn't have MSG; difficult to tell, but I digress. --------- Quality: Fair From their claims, no MSG, is in the broth. That is a plus for me because this is a very common ingredient used. Looking at the phở, fair amount, satiated upon completion, thick cuts of meat provided. For my rice plate, the meat was super tender, so perhaps it was wagyu. Perhaps not butter soft like other pieces of wagyu that I've tried, but not bad. Seems like of like the beef that I get a Costco if I'm being real. For my friend's sizzling plate, the meat was tender upon arrival at the table, but slowly got overcooked and became tougher to cut through. It was thin enough, so that helped us get through it. Price: Expensive Major points docked here. Price ranges from $22 to $35. For your average Vietnamese bowl of phở, the price ranges from $18 to $20. This bowl of phở was discounted for us today and the total came out to $21. Without the discount, it would have been $22. Moving onto my dish though...this was $34.90 without tax and tip. First time I've seen anyone round down 10 cents and I understand that tactic from a business standpoint, but that doesn't help me. This dish was pretty standard sized and looked like a dressed-up version of your homemade shaking beef. Perhaps the meat does contribute to 90% of this cost, but again, not ideal. For the sizzling plate, 100% not worth $25 for me. The meat probably contributed to 90% of this price tag too, but honestly, I still don't think that's worth it if I calculate out the ingredients. Service: Very friendly The service was really amazing. They were welcoming and inviting from the beginning. I appreciate that they want to make a good impression. They checked on us and the owner even came over to the tables there to just get some feedback and highlight some of the different components to the dishes we ordered. Ambiance: Standard Vietnamese restaurant with an entertainment stage Definitely your standard and average Vietnamese restaurants. Tables are all around the restaurant, kitchen in the back, and cashier right when you walk in. They also have a cute little entertainment stage on the left side when you walk in. Location/Parking: Parking is stressful here This restaurant is located on Story Road and in the plaza where Phở Gà Nhà is. Honestly, the parking is horrible. Most of the spots look like they would only fit a compact car. Definitely not made or forgiving for a full SUV car. We parked farther on the side because the spots are ever so slightly bigger. I still had to squeeze through my door though. The scene of cars trying to take turns moving was also really stressful to witness.

This is a new place? The owner was nice enough to come out to have a conversation with us. I also learned how to use garlic to clean the taste buds and enjoy the soup more. We came here because the other place was too popular. This place is spacious, but not too many customers. They have their prison broth for pho. They don't have so many options for other Vietnamese dishes, but they are good with what they do.

    Bún Chả Hà Nội
    Jackie H.

It's hands down the best pho in the Bay Area, especially in San Jose. My husband and son are big pho lovers, and we've tried countless places throughout the Bay, particularly in San Jose. Today was our first time trying the Special Combo Pho (#3) and Bún Chả Hà Nội, and both dishes were beyond words. The pho broth was rich, savory, and absolutely delicious--without MSG! I also loved that they included ngò gai, which is one of my favorite herbs when eating pho. The toppings were fresh and generous. As for the Bún Chả Hà Nội, the fish sauce had such a unique flavor. I'm usually not a fan of bún chả, but I genuinely enjoyed it today. Beyond these two, the menu offers many other options, and we can't wait to come back and try them all. The service was excellent. From the warm greeting at the door to the attentive staff throughout, everything felt welcoming. We even met the owners today--they were very friendly and kind. If you're a fan of pho or Bún Chả Hà Nội, this spot is absolutely worth a visit. Highly recommended!

so i was already trying to go to the banh canh restaurant next door but they were closed so i settled here i ordered multiple things (intending on taking food to go) the guy in the black shirt said "oh my you're gonna eat all that??" when walking past me. not in a rude way at all but definitely not needed??? all of the staff were glued to their phones and not attentive to other customers as well. this place just didn't do it for me and wasn't a vibe.

Despite it being in a big lot, parking still took a while to find. Thankfully, we had thankfully just beat the lunch rush and not had to wait longer than 10 minutes for a table. My friend and I shared a Northern spread (Bun Cha Ha Noi) and a Southern style Goat Curry (Banh Mi Cari De). Service was definitely on the slower side that day, but thankfully we were proactive at getting the orders in. The Bun Cha Ha Noi was delicious - pretty much a DIY spring roll - all the fun, all the mess, with none of the clean up other than licking the plates clean. The pork belly was delicious; I was surprised how much I liked it, since I'm not a fan of pork. I devoured numerous rolls, and we also had some extra vermicelli to finish off the rest of the protein. This single meal was definitely more than enough for two! The Banh Mi Cari De (goat curry) was unfortunately quite the opposite. The goat was cooked very well - tough, gamy, and difficult to eat. There were probably six pieces in total, our first was tender, our second had bone, a little harder to chew, and the last was best compared to rubber. The curry was a bit watery, which made the banh mi soggy when dipped in. This was probably an adventurous try, but not a dish I'd ever consider ordering again.

It's a grilled tumeric fish dish that packs a ton of flavor, and you add noodles and herbs to make a delish spring roll (or in my case a fat burrito). Tip: on Wednesdays, this dish is only $28, whereas the OG price is around $36. The fried rice here was surprisingly super flavorful! You can taste the separate grains (which is when you know the cook on the rice is good) and the salt levels were top tier. If you can't find parking in that plaza, there's more parking across the road where the Target is. After spending about ten minutes on the written wait-list, our names were called. It's definitely a little easier communicating with much of the staff if you speak Vietnamese, and I find that waiting right outside the restaurant is best because they default to calling your name from the door once it's your turn. The interior is crammed with tables; the atmosphere feels busy and warm. There is a single room women's bathroom and men's bathroom in the back as well. The decor leans toward being classic more than trendy, which I liked. The menu is pretty big, offering a variety of items ranging from mainstream Vietnamese options to ones I don't encounter as often. I recommend eating family-style for many of these dishes, including the Bún Chả Cá Lã Vọng, which I enjoyed with my partner. The prices are pretty average, and their portions are generous. That said, they are cash or Zelle only. There is an ATM that you can use if you forget to bring cash, but this is still something to keep in mind. Overall, I can definitely see myself coming back. The appetizers were all good and definitely satisfied my craving for Hue-style snacks. Unfortunately, the Bun Bo Hue was disappointing. The broth had a strange flavor and was missing the rich, hearty depth that makes Bun Bo Hue so comforting and memorable. I honestly found it surprising that a restaurant specializing in Hue cuisine would miss the mark on one of its most iconic dishes. Another thing I noticed was that the vermicelli noodles were broken into many small pieces, which made me feel like they weren't particularly fresh. It definitely affected the overall eating experience. Before leaving, I also ordered a banh canh to go. That ended up being really good, though I personally wasn't a fan of the fresh-cut noodles. By the time I got home, they had expanded quite a bit in the broth and became softer than I prefer. Overall, I enjoyed everything except the Bun Bo Hue. The rolls were gigantic as well as quite price at ~$18 a dish. Moved on to the vermicelli squres with the grilled beef that was served on a large plate to wrap table side. Portions are also gigantic and perfect for sharing. They offer a points system via FiveStars to get free food after a certain dollar amount of spend. As of 6/10, cash and credit card are now the same price. Service by the uniformed staff was efficient. The vibes from the Gen Z cashier were lit.

One of the best pho spots in the Bay Area!…read more Food: 5/5 stars. Food is very hot! Just as it should be. Their Bun Ba Hue is fire! It has spice and rich flavors. Hits the spot and doesn't disappoint! Not too many people can make this dish as it should be made and they truly did a phenomenal job! Always a go-to. Their garlic chicken wings are amazing as well. It's the best out of all their flavors offered. Can't go wrong with ordering it. Crunchy, hot, slightly sweet and garlicky. Service: 5/5 stars. Greeted and seated quickly. Environment: 5/5 stars. Clean and plenty of space between tables. Bathroom is clean and tidy.

We ordered a large bun Bo hue, a large pho luc lac, fried rice with ribeye cooked medium level (as recommended), Bo luc lac with tomato flavored rice, and a chicken pho ap chao to share amongst 3 adults and 4 kids. Everything we ordered was delicious, tasty, and the portion size were very good and perfect for sharing. I was pleasantly surprised with the pho ap chao, it was really tasty and crispy and a dish I have not tried before. We really enjoyed everything but the Bo luc lac (shaken beef) was super tender and the beef was flavorful! This is a must try in my opinion! This restaurant is clean and tidy and has cute decors of bamboo hats hung from the ceiling and remind me of being back in Vietnam again. Staffs were attentive as customers entered. Plenty of parking spaces in the plaza. I will definitely come back here for everything I tried during my visit and to try more when in the area or on the way back from Santa Cruz. This will also be a great place to grab Togo for picnics or for hiking as well! My kids are already asking to come back to the restaurant after our first time there. So glad to know of another Vietnamese restaurant that has so many yummy dishes in SJ!

The standout dish was the egg rolls. They arrived hot, golden brown, and perfectly crisp, with a satisfying crunch and a flavorful filling that made them the best part of the meal. The food, however, wasn't the reason for my rating. The restaurant's cleanliness left me concerned. I noticed cobwebs that appeared to have been hanging in place for a long time, along with dirt and grime collecting in corners throughout the dining room. Even the menus felt sticky, with a visible film of grease and small food particles still clinging to them. The faded print and worn condition made them look as though they hadn't been replaced in years. Those details created an impression of neglect that made it difficult to relax and enjoy the meal. With a thorough deep cleaning and some updated menus, this restaurant could create a much more welcoming dining experience. Until then, the cleanliness issues overshadow what was otherwise an average meal.
