My husband & I enjoyed a wonderful dinner there tonight. We used to go to another Chinese restaurant that closed, this one Yummy Kitchen is our go to now, the food was great, generous portions, healthy, not greasy, the garlic sauce for dipping was amazing. A friend wanted to try Yummy Kitchen because of neighbors raving about it in Next Door posts. But I will tell you I have not gone to a Chinese restaurant & tasted such different refreshing tastes. I mean Never. The fresh vegetables they use in their dishes is yummy for sure. The sauces are perfect for each dish. We had for example the Chicken Cashew that had lots of diced zucchini which added the perfect compliment to a dish I think is usually bland & the sauce was again yummy. We decided to try this place because we were leaving for vacation the next day and didn't want to cook at home. So the only thing we had was the mapo tofu because we also didn't want to deal with leftovers. Bottom line: we will be back, and this is likely to become our new neighborhood Chinese restaurant. The service was friendly and helpful; Chen asked if we like spicy food and recommended the Szechuan beef or Szechuan fish fillet, but we decided to go with the tofu for this visit. We also had two bowls of steamed rice and hot water. The serving was very generous. We walked out full and satisfied. The flavor was outstanding - the most authentic, best restaurant-made mapo tofu we have found in the south bay area. They use real Szechuan peppercorns, so you get that 'ma la' numbing of the tongue along with the spiciness. The ambiance is casual, great for a small every day dinner with family or close friends. My BFF and I ate here tonight. We tried the Stir-Fried String Beans with Pork, Stir-Fried Cashew Shrimp and Sesame Seed Balls. String Beans hands down awesome! The salt of the pork with string beans is amazing. Shrimp was cook perfectly and the veggies were good. Sesame Seed Balls were not greasy like they can sometimes be...nice a crispy. We stopped here after seeing our destination restaurant was closed. This place has gone through a number of changes over the years. The staff were very friendly. We ordered spring rolls - we should have remembered this was a Chinese restaurant since they were standard egg rolls. We also ordered the lamb stir fry. This was a very tasty dish. Looks can be deceiving. While the presentation of the food looks similar to most other restaurants, it's the flavor of the food that is impressive. This place is a diamond in the rough of Chinese food options in South San Jose area. We've been here twice and loved it both times. Our last visit was after it was closed for a few weeks to remodel their kitchen. This time we ordered appetizer garlic chicken wings ( a must for garlic lovers), fish and tofu, house fried rice (delish), beef chow mein, and crispy shrimp balls with salt and pepper. This was my second time coming and the food was just as delicious. We got the Mopo Tofu (my favorite thing so far, it's so good), Mongolian beef, kung pao chicken, house fried rice and chicken and broccoli. They cook everything fresh and you can watch them cook on the wok. The owners and staff are all so friendly. This place is so gross. Got the vegetable chow mein, Honey walnut prawns, and Mapo Tofu. Chow mein was greasy, no vegetables what so ever just a few weak ass broccoli, and just gross tasting. Honey walnut prawns were so soggy. Mapo Tofu had hardly any pork and just tasted gross. Portions were all so weak. If you're going to open a restaurant or business of food, it should at least be mediocre or decent. The food at this place tasted nasty and gross, weak ingredients and weak portions. One of the best places I've come to eat in a very long time. The food was beyond amazing and flavorful, truly crafted with care. But, I think the best of my entire experience here was the service. Everyone was beyond kind, we were helped throughout the entire sitting. Meh Plastic water glasses for eat-in did not enamour me. When single-use cutlery was offered, we asked if they didn't have regular - they did! Apparently some folks asked for single-use, so they were under the impression it might be preferred by customers. The fried rice was a bit of a surprise - it didn't look like fried rice, it was white (I suppose it's easy enough to add soy sauce if you want some), the egg was present as tiny pieces evenly distributed, a few peas and carrot cubes were present as well.. The mild, home-made preparation worked out for us, as we had an infant it could be fed to - but fried rice should be more *fried*? Personally, I would have preferred bigger pieces of fried (omelette) egg. The chicken was decent, but nothing to write home about, per my husband.
