Zona Rosa is a very cute place. I met my coworker here for dinner recently and I liked the empanadas de costillas. I also liked the tempura tacos as well as the special tacos we got with spare rib in them, but the meat in my taco had a very hard piece in it which I had to spit out. The dark chocolate chip banana crumb cake was fantastic though. It was a bit dry but I still liked the flavors. I would come back here

Zona Rosa - A Trendy, Elevated Mexican Experience in San Jose (Be Prepared for the Price) My girlfriend and I had a wonderful lunch at Zona Rosa. This is definitely not your typical Mexican restaurant; it offers a truly elevated, modern, and beautiful dining experience, but be advised it is on the expensive side ### Ambiance & Style The interior design is stunning and sets a sophisticated tone. It feels like a fusion of a casual, trendy bar and a stylish, modern-country California home. I loved the thoughtful wooden accents, the real leather on the bar stools, and the overall well-designed space. It feels warm and inviting. ### Beautifully Crafted Cocktails ($16 Each) The drinks were an absolute highlight and a true testament to the "trendy bar" atmosphere. My girlfriend had a perfectly crafted Lemon Drop, which was crisp and refreshing, topped with a dried citrus wheel. My drink, "The Perfect Margarita," was the vibrant red one, garnished perfectly with rosemary and cranberries. At $16 each, the cocktails are definitely priced for the quality and craftsmanship you receive. ### Appetizer: Fresh & Crispy ($13) We started with the Guacamole for $13. It was clearly freshly made, stacked high, and served with a generous portion of corn chips that tasted like they were fresh out of the fryer--warm, perfectly seasoned, and incredibly crispy. ### The 5-Taco Plate For our main course, we opted to split the 5-taco plate, primarily focusing on the seafood and premium options. The tacos were served on beautiful purple/blue corn tortillas. **The Highlights: * SCALLOP (tempura, asparagus, chipotle glaze). Absolutely bursting with flavor and texture. This was a definite favorite. * SHRIMP (tempura, cilantro aioli, pickled onions) Tender and full of great seasoning. * SALMÓN (blackened, shiitake + corn relish, cilantro aioli, bacon) A fantastic combination of savory, smoky, and earthy flavors. * The Other Tacos: * HANGER (steak, salsa cruda, pico de gallo): Very tender and perfectly cooked. * CARNITAS (pork, avocado, cabbage, tito's salsa): This was the only slight disappointment--it came across as a bit salty and dry compared to the rest of the plate. ### Final Thoughts Overall, the food quality, cocktail execution, and sophisticated ambiance at Zona Rosa are high-tier. However, the costs add up quickly: Guac and Chips, two cocktails, plus premium upcharged tacos, and tip made this a pricey - +$100 meal for two at lunch. Sigh, a sign of the times living in Silicon Valley now.... If you are looking for an upscale Mexican experience and don't mind the higher price point, this is a place to try. I will definitely come back to try other parts of their menu!

**Overall: a solid 4.5 stars** The neighborhood was a little 'sketch', so Zona Rosa was a standout restaurant when we saw it! It was adorable even on the outside with the outdoor heaters in the patios and pretty decor. The best part was once we entered. Wow. The place was adorbs! It didn't look like it belonged on The Alameda in San Jose, but rather a downtown of a fancy city, like Los Gatos or some place down South. The ambiance was *chef's kiss*, a perfect date place! Cocktails were fun, beautifully-concocted, and tasty. The 5 taco plate was a great way to try a bunch of different proteins and flavors. My favorites were the blackened salmon taco (amazing flavor profile!), steak (so tender!), and scallops (cooked to perfection!) Our least favorite was the pork taco (too dry and too salty). We also ordered guacamole and chips. The guac was beautifully presented and delicious. The thick corn tortilla chips were homemade, but had a slightly burnt flavor. The service was excellent. And there's plenty of street parking. Zona Rosa is a great choice if you're ever in San Jose and want to have a nice medium-to-upscale Mexican cuisine dining experience without going to a crowded or cliche area, like Santana Row.

Food is very delicious. Havent tasted such salsas before especially the black one. Harvest margarita was seasonal and great too! We got the suzi enchiladas. Ambiance is small, cute, restrooms are clean also Our waiter was helpful with suggestions . Would definitely come back for tacos and drinks.

Nice small restaurant with outdoor seating in the front + back. Front seating is cute but right along the alameda so quite noisy. Chips + 3 salsas are each unique offering a variety of flavor. Paired with a Carajillo for a nice midday pick me up, sweet and savory. The service is quick and sweet on a Saturday afternoon. Would come back to try more! It's definitely a nice date spot.

The food and service is always spot on. The wait staff seem genuinely happy and are very attentive but not over the top. I had the ollita with steak and my wife the pozole rojo. Two thumbs way up!

Love going here it has such a calm cool vibe. Find it great for chatting or catching up with friends. I was greeted right away when entering and immediately seated. My waiter was very attentive to me and was helpful when giving out his favorite on the menu. I thought the food was good, I would rate a 7.5/10. My drinks were also good. I would continue to go back.

Love this place. The atmosphere inside and out is beautiful. I loved sitting outside. I sat inside 1 time but it was too loud with the music. My only complaint. The food was delicious and service was friendly. I can tell usually people order an alcohol beverage and they look delicious.

Came here for a private White Lotus themed murder mystery party. We had the outdoor bar area upstairs to ourselves and it fit about 15 people standing comfortably. It had a nice view, though I will say it got quite hot up there. They had pretty good drinks - I had their extra spicy margaritas, and they did not disappoint. We had their guacamole and chips, and their queso fundido con chorizo - some of the best we've had in a long time. The bartenders were nice and attentive. Very excited to come back and try something new!

Wowwwww.....the cucumber basil margarita is a MUST. I had two and honestly could have had more. They were beautiful and tasted fantastic. Very light and felt "healthish"---perfect for a sunny day. I got the carnitas tacos and again...AMAZING, but the winner in the food department had to have been the Chimichurri tacos. The staff was charming and were very kind. The overall vibe of the restaurant is funky and preppy--all thrown into one. I loved it. Can you tell I already want to go back?!

We were in the area and wanted to check out something different, so we had dinner at Zona Rosa. When we walked up, the host asked if we had a reservation, which we didn't, but got seated anyway. The menu is kind of high-end Mexican food. The specialty is the tacos, served on blue corn tortillas. I tried the salmon tacos that had a big piece of salmon with a slice of bacon and corn salsa. Everything was very fresh and went well together. My companion got the vegetarian verduras tacos which he loved. He said they were the best mushroom tacos he ever had. We got the chips and guac and the guac was decent, but the chips were amazing. They had upcharge items to add to the guac which I'd probably do next time. It was fine, just a little plain! This place is cute inside, has a nice bar. We didn't order drinks but the drink menu looked really interesting. Also the seats were very comfortable, funny to say but I could see hanging out a while in a comfortable chair!

    Taco Platter

Tried Zona Rosa in Downtown San Jose and it's definitely a solid spot for casual meetups or even a first date. The taco platter is a must-try--super flavorful and perfect for sharing if you want to sample a few things. Their drinks are really refreshing too, especially the horchata, which was creamy, light, and not overly sweet. The nachos were good, but the chips were extra crunchy... like "proceed with caution if you value your gums" crunchy. The service is quick and the staff are really friendly. I just hope they add another rest room bec they only 1 all gender bathroom for the whole restaurant. Parking can be a bit of a challenge during peak hours in downtown, so plan a little extra time to find a spot. But once you're inside, the vibe makes up for it. They have these cute, semi-private booths that make it great for catch-ups with friends or even a first date where you can actually talk without shouting across the table. Overall, would definitely recommend if you're looking for a fun Mexican spot in downtown SJ.

    Is it pet friendly?

Yes. They let pets hang out with their owners at the outside patio tables. However, they won't let them inside the resto proper.

Are bloody Mary's available at brunch?

Yes. The drinks they create are amazing hibiscus, cilantro just tasty and refreshing

    Is parking available close by?

    Street parking

Do they use any animal products in their beans and rice?

Is the parking lot that's gated (black gate) behind the restaurant available for customer parking? Thanks!

No, unfortunately that is all reserved for other businesses

Do they only take reservations or can easily walk in?

They take walk-ins but your best bet is to make a reservation.

    Is there happy hour?

They have a Fiesta Hour on their website.

Is this establishment casual or dressy?

    Very casual

    Do they have lengua tacos?

Will they now be open for outdoor seating this week?

Yes as of august, there is outdoor seating

Is this place big enough to sit a big party of about 30?

Unfortunately I do not think so. The inside is rather small and even with 20 people in the space it already feels insanely crammed.

Is this owned by the same people as the one in SF?

No. A local San Jose family owns this one.

Lots of take out orders and dine in orders. I ordered 5 super tacos to share with different meats (pollo, carne asada, al pastor, carnitas and chorizo). The super tacos come with cilantro, onions, avocado, sour cream, cheese and pico de gallo. All the tacos come with homemade corn tortillas - you could tell they were fresh. The tacos are big, not small at all. The carne asada, carnitas and pollo was my favorite. Al pastor was good as well, chorizo was not that flavorful for me. However, they also have 3 types of salsas (green, red and a creamy orange) you can use to help add some more flavor if needed. The tacos were good and the tortilla they used was quite thick. The enchiladas had good flavor as well, and I would be interested in trying their enchilada with the verde sauce next time. Their prices have steadily risen over time and they have updated their menu prices as well. One thing that elevated this restaurant to 4 stars is their sauce! The red sauce and green sauce recipe is definitely unique compared to other taquerias. The red sauce bottle helps with the flavor tremendously and without it I would have rated this place lower.

This made it so seamless to reserve here. Our group got there at opening and our table was ready and most of the group was already seated when we got there. Drink orders were flowing as the waitress caught up to me and I got a cafe de olla. We browsed the menu and the more I looked the harder it was to pick one thing. I ended up choosing chilaquiles with a bandera sauce and carne asada as the added protein. The rest of the table got all different types of dishes from carne en su jugo to birria to omelettes. While we enjoyed each other's company sipping on our cafecito I enjoyed the ambiance of the space. Nicely decorated for the holidays. Since it was opening time it wasn't as loud as I imagine it can get in there. The sun did shine on the faces of those facing the windows which was not enjoyable for them. There was no way to cover the sun either since it was coming in from the top windows with no shade. My food came out along with the rest of the plates and we went right in to enjoy them. My favorite chilaquiles was covered in the white sauce. The red and green were good but the white sauce was my favorite. The carne was cooked well but I could taste it wasn't marinated or lacked flavor. I didn't get a knife to cut the meat so it was very difficult to enjoy a piece with my chilaquiles. It was hard to cut with a butter knife. I thought it would be a piece of steak but it was a piece of carne asada. Eggs were scrambled and cooked well. The whole plate was filling, had flavor, and was a good portion. The cafe de olla had a good flavor but a tad sweet for my preference. The space in here is a vibe. A fun place to enjoy large gatherings. I came for breakfast but will update when I come back to visit for dinner. Bathrooms are clean. Staff was welcoming and efficient in taking care of our group. Hospitality was a 10/10. Parking in the am was a breeze but at prime time I can see it being a complete nightmare so plan accordingly. I enjoyed my visit and will come back to check out the dinner menu.

As we cruised by looking for parking, it was clear we had picked a lively spot--buzzing energy everywhere: inside, outside, and even upstairs. We were quickly seated indoors, though on such a beautiful day we assumed we'd be offered outdoor seating. No big deal--we asked, and they happily moved us to a shaded table with plenty of space. Much better. Drinks were first on the agenda: margaritas and a michelada, all refreshing and exactly what we were hoping for. Our server, Michelle, was friendly, attentive, and even shared some helpful tips about perks with our American Express Platinum Card--a nice, unexpected touch. We kicked things off with queso fundido, though a brief mix-up brought us chips and guacamole from another table first. Once we pointed it out, it was quickly handled--but honestly, it looked so good we ended up ordering it anyway. No regrets there--it definitely hit the spot. We hadn't planned on a full dinner, so we went with lighter bites. The tuna tostadas and halibut ceviche were a hit--fresh, flavorful, and perfect for sharing. I went with the tortilla soup, which was good and nicely presented... but didn't quite wow me. I've been on a bit of a tortilla soup tour lately, and this one leaned a little heavy on the tortillas (soaking up too much broth) and had more zucchini than I expected. That said, major points for serving it piping hot--something a lot of places miss--and the avocado was a great addition. One thing worth noting: I didn't catch it until later, but there's a 4% living wage surcharge added to the bill--and it's taxed. That caught me off guard, and I'm still not entirely sure how that works in California. Overall, a fun, energetic spot with great drinks, tasty bites, and solid service. Not perfect, but definitely good enough to come back for another round.

The restaurant is LOUD despite being outside. They allow dogs on leashes outside. The dedicated parking lot is small, but I was able to find a spot. I didn't notice much of a difference between the two locations other than the small size of the steak at the Alameda restaurant. I would go back to either location.

02/02/26. Update.... Probably my 10th visit, and this time it was absolutely incredible…read more I always ordere "The Double Meat Carne Asada" Burrito, 8 times out of 10 it has been delicious, but Saturday was Top Notch, OMG. The meat was perfectly cooked, moist and No Chunks of fat at all, and there was plenty of meat as well, mixed with a perfect bit of rice & beans, cheese, a tiny bit of avocado (I always have extra at home for this + sour cream) and the dough is pleasantly thin. I throw this in a counter top oven, and while heating, the dough becomes wonderfully crisp... Ohlala. The restaurant itself is clean, inviting, big windows all around, an impressive bar, and several TV screens that however, makes it on the noisy side. Always a lot of families there, seeming to enjoy all different kinds of wonderful dishes. I got two meals out of this heavenly Burrito, and I will definitely recommend this place.

Staff was quick to take our orders and clean up. Corn tortillas are used for the tacos. The ingredient description for food options is concise and also descriptive to let people know what to expect. They serve soft, regular, and crispy tortillas at this chain. The carne asada was on the drier side when I had it this time. Definitely had juicier meats here in the past. The tortilla was a little crispier than I remember for the regular tacos. Will be back at this location or at the others since it's one of the popular choices in SJ!

I also had the handmade corn tortillas on the side which I dipped in the soup. It was so good, I believe thisnis the first time I ate an entire bowl of soup at any establishment ... wait, I do eat all of the miso soup at Benihana's but that's about it. I was so full and it wasn't even a huge bowl! I also had a beer, I can't remember the name but it paired well with the soup too. I couldn't even order anything else because I was full. Thank you Harvey for the great recommendation other sorors who didn't like their soup or chicken tacos opted for the corn soup and was not disappointed If you haven't guessed it yet....GET THE CORN SOUP! The happy hour guacamole with chips and tacos were pretty good. I love ceviche and caramari so we got them off the regular menu for ~$19 each. The caramari was pretty sad. Very small soggy oily and chewy with 1/2 of portions being onion.... The ceviche was also not something me being a ceviche lover would want to finish.. The chips were good though.
