Went to Luna's for Sunday brunch. I had a cup of black tea (Numi Aged Earl Grey) and the chimichurri skirt steak bowl with no rice. It was delicious! The meat was tender and cooked to the perfect temperature, the sweet potatoes were soft on the inside and crispy on the outside, and they give you an entire half of an avocado (not just a little sliver), all on a good bed of arugula. We also shared the horchata french toast for desert. The bread was thick and soft and the horchata drizzle wasn't overly sweet. The speed of service left a little to be desired and we had to ask for a few thing more than I thought we should've had to. However, I realize that it was Sunday brunch and the restaurant was a little busy.
Great food. Love the homemade chips & tortillas. The green salsa is we shared the shrimp & fish tacos. Service can be a little slow if it's busy but definitely worth the wait!
Delicious Baja fish taco! Crunchy fresh chips and salsas! Really great guac, huge portion! Friendly service and really nice atmosphere! Music is a little loud but easy enough fix if they care to take it down a decibel. We will be back!

Service was attentive FOOD The complimentary cilantro, jalapeño, avocado oil salsa (that came with the chips) was creamy with a kick of heat - delish! 3/5 BACON-WRAPPED CAMARONES 3 jumbo wild shrimp, applewood bacon, quesa Oaxaca, jalapeno, cilantro, cabbage, honey chipotle glaze (not as flavorful as it sounds, not freshly made) 4/5 CHILE RELLENO PICADILLO fire-roasted poblano chile, fragrant stew of Niman Ranch grass-fed beef, tomato, jalapeño, potato, peas, carrot, onion, herbs and spices, lightly fried in an egg soufflé (unique!), topped with salsa ranchera and crema, with arroz rojo and handmade corn tortillas (not freshly made)
Always love the food here. Today is no exception. Pabil and fundido is always on our plates. You will drop coin here but IMHO it's worth it!
You know when you walk into a place, and you see an old lady making tortillas by hand, and putting them on a griddle, and making them fresh, it's going to be a great meal. I get a pit in my stomach just thinking about those fresh tortillas. I was here with some co-workers at the recommendation of a Sacramentoan who was familiar, and he won the prize for picking the best place of the trip. The plan was to get some appetizers then order a meal... but the appetizers were so good, that we just got more of those. The bacon wrapped shrimp were so good. Bacon and shrimp go together like bacon and eggs, bacon and turkey, bacon and LT, bacon and scallops, bacon and bacon, bacon and cottage cheese (try it before you judge), bacon and bloody Mary's, and bacon and chocolate. Where was I, oh yea, that appetizer... the shrimps stood up on their own but the red tomatoey sauce it came with was amazing! We also filled up on the chips and poblano sauce and the hearty quesadilla. And the classic margarita was fresh and simple and just right... the baby bear in my adult version of Goldilocks. Service was awesome with the bartender making delicious drinks and the waiter taking care of us by bringing more shrimp and even more shrimp! This is probably one of my favorite restaurants in San Jose, and I tell everyone about it. The restaurant has authentic food that makes you feel at home. The menu has the classic breakfast dishes, to the staples for lunch. Staff is always attentive and nice which makes you want to come back time and time again. Parking is limited to a small lot or street parking, but be careful to ensure you dont have a time limit or need a permit.
This restaurant has a great atmosphere, making it a wonderful spot for date night, a girls' luncheon, or a group dinner. They offer plenty of seating in three areas: indoors, a semi-enclosed patio, and a covered open-air patio. The first time my husband and I dined here, the weather was quite hot, so we sat inside and had a nice experience. Our server was very friendly. He brought out plenty of chips and salsa, with eventually a refill (or two). The chips were so delicious, and their two sauces were addicting. The green sauce can be quite spicy depending on the batch of chiles they use. I started with a Paloma, which was served in a terracotta mug. It was slightly sweet and tangy, just the way I like my cocktails. For our main, we shared the Mixed Grill (chico) for two. The combination of meats and vegetables was tender but not seasoned. We used their wonderful sauces as the condiment for the dish. Their house-made corn tortillas were soft and held their shape when folded. My most recent visit was with a group of four girlfriends for a weekday lunch. We arrived at 11:00 a.m. and had just about every seat available to us. We decided to sit in the semi-enclosed patio, which was lovely since the weather was mildly warm. The only downside to this area was the curious flies. The overhead fans weren't enough to keep them at bay. Two of the ladies ordered the Chile Verde. It had big chunks of tender pork, but this time it was a little too tangy and lacked any spiciness. By the time we finished, the restaurant was almost completely full. It was a good time to leave, as it was getting quite loud. I'd love to come back and try more items on their menu.
Always LOVE this place! We go here often and they never disappoint! Neighborhood gem with excellent service, a great vibe, and the most delicious food! Was craving the ENCHILADAS SUIZAS [Mary's free-range chicken enchiladas, jack cheese, crema, tomatillo salsa, with arroz rojo and refried beans topped with queso fresco] And it was still very yummy! Love everything about it! * Note: parking is a challenge so be patient... once you've settled yourself in you will know it was well worth it. Would I go back? YES!! Always :)

I'm sorry but I'm not a fan of this place. I do really like one dish which is the sweet potato appetizer. Charred so perfectly! I came again and tried breakfast and was still disappointed in my dish. I prefer the other restaurant just up the way.
I've been wanting to try more Mexican food and stumbled across LUNA. The outside patio seating was pleasant and perfect weather during my visit. As I entered the restaurant there was the aroma of fresh tortillas being made. Upon sitting down I was presented with fresh homemade corn tortilla chips along with two salsas (mild and medium) Tortilla chips were thick with just the right amount of crunch. Tasting the green (mild?) salsa was my favorite. It had a great tomatillo flavor with a creamy spiciness. It was a good reprieve from my main dish. A Paloma was my drink of choice this time. I'll preface this by saying I'm not a fan of tequila but when presented with the cold clay mug rimmed with salt and topped with orange and grapefruit, I was impressed. It was delicious, so refreshing, fragrant, and cold! A nice counterbalance to my meal. Chilaquiles was a dish I wanted to try. They had delicious chips again cooked in salsa verde. Covered with eggs (any style) fresh crema, avocado, and onions the chilaquiles exceeded my expectations. So simple yet so flavorful. Mixing up quantities of ingredients in each bite made for a delicious experience. My favorite element being the sharpness of the onions which cut the richness of the dish. I'm generally not a fan of refried beans but these ones had such a unique and satisfying flavor which complimented the dish well. My server, Luis was very helpful and quick to check in and make sure I was doing okay! I cannot wait to try out their fish tacos and various drinks from the menus next time!
Landed at SJC and headed straight to this Bib Gourmand resto before my first meeting of the day. Loved the warm and inviting space with its charming banquettes, wrought iron chairs, and rustic wood tables, and couldn't have asked for more accommodating service as staff graciously allowed me to order from the lunch menu even though it was still breakfast time. The gluten-free Steak Salad (a quarter pound of all-natural hormone-free grilled skirt steak, organic mixed greens, roasted corn, avocado, cherry tomatoes, Point Reyes blue cheese, balsamic vinaigrette) hit my macros beautifully and was a joy to both my eyes and my stomach, while the complimentary housemade tortilla chips and salsa utterly destroyed said macros but were totally worth the sacrifice. :D

The food here is pretty mediocre for the price and quantity. I got the protein bowl and it came with very little chicken and was mostly beans and rice. I liked the sides esp the sweet potato, but felt like I could get way more at Chipotle and it would taste almost the same. The drinks were also so expensive we ordered a pitcher for $70 and we thought it'd be those big pitchers but it was a tiny one that was barely enough for 7 people to get one glass. Ambience is nice if you go with a group since there's a large patio area and wait was pretty long for our food around 30 mins. read more

We drove to San Jose to try Luna Mexican Kitchen, and it was well worth the drive. The restaurant has plenty of tables available inside, outside, and under the covered patio. The food is authentic, healthy, and delicious. We started with the Fruta con Chile, which was perfectly soaked in chile and lemon. My skirt steak was great, and my wife loved her chicken bowl. Along with the fantastic food, the service was excellent. The Mexican music playing in the background took the entire experience over the top for me. read more

I finally made it to LUNA on the Alameda for lunch today. I've been to the Pruneyard location several times, but have wanted to try this one for a while. It was busy at noon on a Saturday, but fortunately they have a large tented outdoor dining area, in addition to the regular indoor restaurant, to accommodate everyone. I was almost immediately seated and given water and chips and two types of salsa. Both were too spicy for me, but the chips tasted good. I ordered the steak salad, which is what I've had every time I've dined at the Pruneyard location. It was very good, although the steak portion was teeny tiny. That was disappointing. But the greens were fresh and delicious and I loved the fresh avocado and roasted corn on top. Even the salad dressing was perfection. A few random notes: My waiter was running around like crazy trying to help all of the diners at his tables, but still came by and checked on me a couple times. The restaurant is LOUD despite being outside. They allow dogs on leashes outside. The dedicated parking lot is small, but I was able to find a spot. I didn't notice much of a difference between the two locations other than the small size of the steak at the Alameda restaurant. I would go back to either location. read more
Pros: - Pricing is good for the amount of food that is given. - Great for sharing - Chips w/salsa - Ceviche was delicious Cons: - Service was very slow, even though the restaurant started to clear out. - Everything was dirty. Our cups especially. They mentioned they are running out of cups, but that isn't an excuse to give out water to the table with every cup being stained with Tajin. - Everything on the sharing grill was a bit bland. - Restrooms are terrible. There are only two single stalls and the line to wait is in the way of the workers, so we had to move back and forth to let them through. read more

We visit Luna often because the Mexican food is consistently fresh and delicious! Our absolute "must-order" is the lamb barbacoa paired with a side of queso flameado. The barbacoa is a generous portion served with beans and pickled vegetables--we love adding the queso right on top for the perfect bite. Another standout is the Camote (charred sweet potato), which is excellent. While we've explored other menu items like the New Quesadilla Fritas, Carnitas Burrito, and Steak Bowl--all of which were good--nothing quite beats the lamb barbacoa in my opinion! read more

Stopped by Luna Mexican Kitchen on a Friday evening while visiting San Jose. It was super packed, and we were told the wait would be about 30 minutes, but we were seated in just 10-15 minutes. The service was friendly and efficient despite how busy it was. I ordered the Tacos Dorados de Papa, and they were really good. Great food, great service, and definitely worth the wait! read more

If you are looking for date nights, or for casual dinners, this place works in both cases. We were served chips and salsa to begin with, the chips were slightly too oily for my preference but otherwise great. We started with the horchata, which was probably not the best horchata, but still not too terrible either. We ordered the Enchiladas Suizas and Mole poblano con pollo. The enchiladas were delicious, and the quantity did not disappoint either when I compare to some other mexican places in the similar price point. The chicken in the Mole poblano was a little dry, but shoutout to our server Ray, who replaced it for us. We then went with the Lamb Barbacoa which was terrific, it was juicy, tender and buttery. The server was very nice and patient with all the questions we had on the menu. Would definitely visit the place again. Note: Seems like there is a long wait time during the weekends, so I would advice on getting on the wait list early. Parking can be tricky as there was not much around, and you have to either do a couple of rounds around the block, or go in the residential lanes to find one. read more
This hit the spot for a neighborhood Mexican restaurant! The restaurant itself is small but has an extended patio space. It's quaint and unassuming but the food was great! We ordered elote, enchiladas rojas and pork chile verde, and chips were complementary. The chips were thick, which I like, and I thought the entree serving sizes were decent. I loved the fresh tortillas and the verde sauce was flavorful! I probably could've used a little extra pork for my third tortilla. Service was standard. Our waitress was friendly and food came out relatively fast; we didn't quite feel like we were getting pushed out but it was maybe a little quicker than anticipated for a Saturday date night, but there was also a wait when we left. Maybe it was because I was with someone amazing, but it was an amazing experience. We were well taken care of the moment we sat down. Wait staff was awesome, and consistently came by to make sure things were good and waters were filled. We sat outdoors in the "patio" setup but no complaints. Even though it was a chilly winter morning, we were very comfy. They have the space covered and multiple heaters. As someone that likes being toasty more than cold, I was more than happy in the space. They had a number of options I wanted to try, and I'll definitely be back to make sure I try them. We came during the morning, expanding the choices to breakfast options. I got the steak and eggs option, and enjoyed everything on my plate. The meat was cooked to the temp I requested, as well as the eggs being cooked to preference. The meat was good, and wasn't tough at all. The beans were good. The nopal was also good; personally, I enjoy it when the nopal isn't too bitter/sour, so this was good for me. Texture was good as well. Really can't say anything bad about the main. We also got the tacos dorados to share, and they were good. They're also an eye catcher, as people looked over to see what it was. Hot chocolate was good, but do be careful as it is hot. Cute cups too. Great time, and I'll be back. My wonderful companion had chorizo, and they made remarks about their enjoyment as well. read more

Hidden gems, soulful food, and one of the best vegetarian dishes I've ever eaten. I've been to Luna Mexican Kitchen before and always had a great time but honestly I didn't realize how to order here. This place has SERIOUS hidden gems that will absolutely blow your mind compared to most Mexican restaurants and I'm here to tell you exactly what they are. First the atmosphere. Luna is one of the cutest little spots. The small building with murals outside instantly sets the tone and the outdoor seating is perfect for a lazy weekend lunch. Inside is cozy and warm and you can actually watch fresh corn tortillas being made right there which already tells you you're in good hands. The service deserves a shoutout too. The servers know the menu really well, many speak Spanish, feel like locals guiding you toward the best dishes, and are genuinely warm and friendly. You can tell they actually care about the food. Now let's talk about the star dishes. Café de Olla Do not skip this. This is a traditional Mexican coffee brewed in a clay pot with piloncillo which is unrefined cane sugar, Mexican cinnamon, and a hint of citrus. The result is an earthy, smoky, gently sweet coffee that is incredibly comforting. The aroma alone of cinnamon, warm sugar, and subtle citrus makes the experience special. Just holding the cup and slowly sipping it instantly makes your day better. I've had cocktails here before which are great, but this coffee is something truly special, especially for brunch. It is slightly hidden on the menu and I had never noticed it before which was a big mistake on my part. Fruta con Chile This sounds simple but it is done perfectly. Simple street food executed beautifully. Vegetarian Chile Relleno (Calabacitas) This might honestly be one of the best vegetarian dishes I have eaten in my life. When you think chile relleno you usually imagine something deep fried, heavy, and stuffed with cheese. This version is completely different and incredible. A fire roasted poblano pepper stuffed with chayote squash, seasonal squash known as calabacitas, fire roasted corn, and just enough melted cheese to add depth without overpowering the vegetables. It is served over a warm and comforting salsa ranchera alongside black beans cooked with epazote and fluffy quinoa. The flavors were explosive yet balanced. Smoky, earthy, comforting, and fresh all at once. I did not leave a single bite on the plate. I usually order meat forward dishes at Mexican restaurants but I would order this again and again without hesitation. This dish truly respects vegetables and what they can become when treated thoughtfully. If you step back for a moment this dish is also incredibly nutritious with complex carbs, beans, and multiple vegetables working together in a way that feels both satisfying and light. It is rare to find food that is this healthy and this delicious at the same time. They do have a meat version of the chile relleno as well but the vegetarian version is something special. Tamales Soft, moist, and flavorful with great texture. You do not see many places doing tamales properly anymore and these were very well executed. The toppings and salsas paired beautifully. Chicken Protein Bowl A solid and flavorful bowl with avocado, black beans, chicken, and rice. Balanced, comforting, and well seasoned. Aguas Frescas We tried the Jamaica which is hibiscus and it was refreshing, vibrant, and delicious. Love that it's full of antioxidants! Churros Save room for these. These are some of the best churros I have had in the South Bay. Not the typical heavy extruded kind but more like a blend between Mexican and Spanish style churros. Light, crisp, coated in cinnamon sugar, served with whipped cream, warm melted chocolate, and a charred slice of orange that you can squeeze on top. I left feeling genuinely happy and light after eating an incredibly flavorful and thoughtfully balanced meal which is rare. My biggest tip is not to order the standard fare. Look for the hidden gems on the menu. Also order the freshly made corn tortillas. They are soft, warm, and absolutely worth it. My partner and I haven't been to Luna in a while and decided to have some lunch here. We haven't officially sat in every seating area that they have. They have plenty of seating indoor and outdoor. If you are outdoor they do have heating. Today we sat at a table near the bar and their bar is first come first serve. Our waiter was attentive to us and food came out promptly. They were able to answer my questions and recommended items off the menu. Overall the food is good, nothing spectacular but definitely a good solid meal. read more

I ordered takeout from the dinner menu, and while the food was good, the vegan options are pretty limited. From the dinner menu, the only vegan choices are the guacamole, most of the sides, and the Enchiladas El Vegan. This was my second time ordering the Enchiladas El Vegan, and I wasn't disappointed at all. If anything, they were even better this time. I ordered an extra enchilada and it definitely paid off. The enchiladas are very sauce-heavy, which I personally love and appreciate. The filling inside is really well seasoned; I just wish they were filled a bit more, especially toward the middle. The amount was fine, but a little extra would have made them even better. I got arroz verde and black beans on the side. On their own, they were just okay. The beans tasted a bit plain and the arroz verde was slightly dry. However, once I mixed them together and added the green sauce from the enchiladas, they were honestly 10x better. The side portions were also very generous, which I appreciated. My order was ready right on time for pickup, which is always a plus. Overall, I would definitely order the vegan enchiladas again; they're really good. I just wish the restaurant offered more vegan dinner options. Sorry about the lack of photos. I always enjoy coming here! The food and ambiance are great. This location is pretty small, but they have plenty of outdoor seating, which is covered and has plenty of heaters. The only downside is parking can be tricky, as it is all street parking in a residential area. As a starter we got the elote, but I asked for it to be off the cob so that it was an esquite. It was pretty good and had a roasted flavor. For my entree I ordered the enchiladas suizas which were delicious! The salsa verde was very flavorful and the handmade tortillas were soft. For drinks we got a michelada and a Paloma. My favorite was the Paloma! read more

The Mexican food at Luna was phenomenal. You could truly taste the fresh ingredients that they do use and it was very authentic. I enjoyed the fresh tortilla chips to start and the sweet potatoes as an appetizer. We also a great small meal to kick us off for the main course. I got the chicken enchiladas, smothered, and green sauce. Great flavor throughout the whole entire dish. The weight was not too bad, but might be a little bit difficult to find parking especially on a weekend when they are significantly busy. The customer service was very friendly and our waiter was very tentative to our needs. It is a very cute spot for a random date night. read more

We have tickets to see Wicked and need a place close to the San Jose Center for the Performing Arts. We love Mexican food and Luna looks great. If we were there around 4:30 on a Sunday afternoon, would we be able to leave by 5:45 to get to the show?
