Located in San Jose is this hidden food truck with some outside eating area! They also have a nice sauce area with a lot of options for condiments! The only thing is parking is not the best from what I could tell. We got three tacos the vampiro, mar y tierra, and the shrimp taco and all were amazing. This place is located on a busy street. I didn't know initially, but there are some parking spaces behind the truck and some street parking across. They have lots of tables in their dining area as well as some heated lamps. The area was real toasty. They have a sauce bar in the back with all the fixings you may need. Mr. shrimp is situated on an unassuming cross street, and even though it is a food truck, you can still have a lovely dining experience with the dining area that they have set up. Recommended this place by my cousin. They operate out of a truck in what is probably a permanent spot. I will mostly recommend the Shrimp Emperador Tacos and Birria Tacos. The Vampiro tacos have both beef and shrimp, but the beef overpowered the shrimp in my opinion. The regular Cameron Tacos were too basic in comparison to the Emperador so I'd stick with the latter. I've had the tostada but it's so loaded (not in a bad way), the tostada was getting hard to stay crispy so I'd go for the ceviche next time. Their sauce bar has 3 different hot sauces including this deep spicy one that I really love. There's parking in the back or my husband and I have been lucky to get parking out front. That's it. I'm blowing Mr. Shrimp place up on Yelp, and there's nothing you can do to stop me. This is one of the rare reviews where if I could give it an extra star, I gladly would. Mr. Shrimp had always been on my radar. I've been following their Instagram page for months, but never once thought to order food there. That is, until one breezy Sunday evening where I suddenly thought, "Okay, I need to know what's up." I arrive to the truck and was immediately greeted with an amazing personality. We're talking above-and-beyond hospitality from the owner and the staff. After a light conversation, I got myself two quesabirria tacos ($4 each) with consomé. But because it was my first time here, the owner decided to add in a taco gobernador on the house. It's a secret menu item, something I would know about if I look deeper within their Instagram page. What a treat! The quesabirria tacos are absolutely delicious. Lately, I've been having such a disappointing streak with quesabirria tacos at other places, but these ones reinvigorated my love for them. They're crispy, flavorful, and the quite cheesy, and the meat is tender and plentiful. There was certainly a lot of thought put into the makeup of my tacos because it's got the right amount of everything, and this is not even to mention that there is a self-serve bar where you can apply your own dosage of cilantro, onions, sauces, and other ingredients! The consomé was great. I describe it as rich, savory, and not too salty. If my intuition is correct, you can taste the pasilla-ancho peppers since it has a subtle cocoa flavor. Onto the taco gobernador. It's got shrimp, shredded cabbage, diced peppers, and cheese, all sitting on a corn tortilla. About the same opinion of this as with the quesabirria tacos when it comes to how everything came together so well, as if the recipe was given plenty of thought and consideration. This pairs really well with the different negra sauces on the table. The best sauce to apply on the taco is the Culichi Negra®, which elevates seafood like butter on toast. Of course, the owner check in to see how the food was, and I got to hit them with the praises. This is a business that deserve to be recognized for its quality. Ever since my gym moved downtown, I was always curiously driving by this truck. Then it got featured on the SanJoseFoos IG, so I thought I'd finally try it before they really got blown up. Funny story--a couple weeks ago I was looking for this truck and used the Yelp directions, and it took me to Con Sabor A Mexico, whom I love, but that's not who I was looking for. So Mr. Shrimp. I'm gonna be honest, despite three years of Spanish, when it came to the menu--I really didn't know what anything was, so I just decided to go with tacos... old reliable. I went with two tripas, two shrimp since I'm assuming that's their specialty, and two quesabirria. I don't know why I didn't choose to eat there, but I took them to a nearby plaza to chow down. Worth noting? It's cash or venmo. No credit here, which is a downer for me because one of my reasons to buy food so much is for credit card points... so it just feels like I lose more money. That and it's quite the wait. The reason for the wait though is it's all made to order. The tortillas tasted fresh, homemade even, so that's a big plus. The tripas was well cooked with the perfect amount of crisp to go with the chew and the trimmings and sauces were perfect. The quesabirria wasn't the best I had--the meat was well seasoned but the cheese left much to be desired... it's pretty comparable to Rosario's Tacos. As for the shrimp tacos, my to-go box was drenched in sauce so I'm guessing it got flipped during the drive but it was probably one of the best shrimp tacos I ever had. The problem is they use really small shrimp and it was a tad overcooked as it was more meaty than it was melt in your mouth, but the slaw and sauces they have in it are great. We always see customers at Mr. Shrimp, and now we know why. My fiancé and I first went to Mr. Shrimp on a Monday around 3pm. It wasn't busy at all, but a few parties arrived shortly after we did. Customer service was great. The employee taking our order didn't understand English well, but she really, really tried so kudos to her for that. She asked her son to run out and get another person to take our order. He was a friendly gentleman as well, and he walked us through the menu and described everything for us. We tried Mr. Shrimp's taco emperador and quesabirria and enjoyed them so much that we came back the following day to order them again. The taco emperador was the shrimp taco with cabbage and special sauce. Loved the homemade tortillas. The birria beef was juicy and tender, and the consommé was flavorful. I also tried a chicken taco for good measure, and it was totally fine. The flavor of the taco reminded me of chicken tinga.
