Went to the location on Alum Rock. Parking was good on a Saturday night. Warm and friendly service Had al pastor gringa and 5 tacos: asada, lengua, cabeza, buche, & tripas. Loved: lengua, tripas, cabeza, and al pastor. Lengua was nice and soft, great with orange or brown sauce. Tripas was chopped up instead of typical tube shaped; was slightly crunchy but amazing flavor. Cabeza tasted good but can be a little fatty. Al pastor was delicious with lots of flavor and a good size chunk of pineapple. Ok: buche and asada. Good but the other meat just outshone them. read more

I came to Tacos Chencho without really knowing what to expect since I had never tried it before, and I was actually pretty impressed! I got the al pastor tacos, and they were really good. I also liked that they give you grilled onions and lime on the side. We also tried the quesadillas, which were huge and had a really good serving size. We got a strawberry agua fresca and horchata as well, and both were good. Our group of six spent around $80 altogether, which I thought was pretty reasonable considering the portions and the amount of food we got. The food came out quickly too. After we ordered, I'd say it took 10 minutes or less, so we really didn't have to wait long. My only suggestion would be more seating. There were only about two tables when we went, and if other people are already sitting there, it can feel a little awkward having to share a table with people you don't know. I definitely think there's room for improvement there. Overall, for trying this place completely blind, I was really impressed. We came here looking for something new. Tacos Los Reyes and Bombero are some of our recent favorites. If it wasn't for my wife's food poisoning maybe this is 4 stars. I'd rather get 3 tacos! - Carne asada meat has a nice Smokey flavor. However it's jerky like toughness and a bit dry. - Someone in another review was raving about this place having the best Al pastor. So all of that hype made it a bit of a downer since I find it mid. Service (3 stars) + Typical food truck style ordering but it's more of a trailer. They have a little salsa bar with about 4-5 sauce options. My friend took me to his family's favorite taco stand in East SJ for a late Thursday night dinner. The truck is located along Story Road with a pretty big setup including salsa bar, agua fresca table, and tented seating area with lots of tables and chairs. We parked in a neighboring lot and walked up to a small line, which moved fast as the service was quick. Each of us ordered 4 tacos and a quesadilla to share and it was a decent amount of food for the price. Everything tasted great and the vibes were awesome, we sat and chilled there for quite a while. I came across a reddit post about the best tacos in the bay area, so my friends and I set out to taco hop. For our first taco hop, we visited Tacos Chencho, Tacos Montero, and Tacos Los Tres Reyes. Of the tacos we've tried, Chencho was our favoriteeee by far. The al pastor was perfectly marinated, which paired well with the bits of pineapple. I appreciated that they put some grilled onions on our plate. I enjoyed their sauce bar, too. Each taco came out to around $3.20 for one and the gringa was $10.79. The horchata was $5.49. The tacos were pretty loaded with meat, onions, and cilantro. This place has multiple trucks. The one local to me is on bascom near San Carlos and let me just say that they are the real deal! Great flavor on their asada and they give you fresh sautéed onions and limes w each order. Their red salsa is some of the best in San Jose (trust me I get around ) and so are their Al pastor tacos! I'd argue that the al pastor is some of the best in all of the South Bay! Crazy take I know! I drive by this taco truck all the time when I'm heading home. I finally bit the bullet this taco Tuesday. I had the lengua taco, suadero taco, and a gringa. The gringa really blew me away. I love pineapple so more pineapple on my pastor taco? Hell yeah brother. The lengua and suadero tacos were also great. Their salsa bar was the real MVP, I enjoyed the orange and light green salsa. I've been meaning to come to Tacos Chencho after my coworker recommended this place over Tres Reyes. I came here on an early Saturday night and got 12 tacos to split between 2 people, totaling $41. Maybe I wasn't super hungry, but the 6 tacos filled me up more than I expected. Pretty affordable price-wise given Bay Area food pricing. The Al Pastor and Cabeza were really good, with the Al Pastor being tender and garnished with a real pineapple whereas the Cabeza was really fatty and flavorful. The carne asada was a bit dry and underwhelming. The salsa verde was decent, I'd say Tres Reyes has more flavorful and spicier salsas, but if less flavor and less spicy is your jam you might prefer this over Tres Reyes. Ambiance-wise, it wasn't very busy but we also came at like 5:30 PM which is a bit early. There's parking in the lot next to the truck, but I could see parking not being great when they are more busy.
