The service here is super friendly and nice! I loved their prices, especially coming from the Bay Area. I added beans to my San Diego fries, and it was perfect. The guacamole is more on the lemon side, which I love. (Just an fyi for those who don't like lemon.) A cute spot for a grubby late night meal.

I've been here a few times since I moved to North SJ. It's definitely one of my favorite taqueria in this area. I know there's a few other Mexican restaurants in this area but Taqueria Lorena's always hit the spot and the prices are affordable. I appreciate the speedy service. The food is tasty with great flavors and they have salsa. Great portions too. My favorites are the tacos and burritos. Nachos are good and I need to try their San Diego fries next. Horchata is refreshing too. Very simple taqueria. Lots of seating indoors with a few seats outdoor too. Even have a restroom. I also appreciate the parking lot in the back although it's a bit tight so be careful.

First off, food. The food there is good. Compared to the other taco places, this one is much cheaper and very good portions. I won't say these are the best tacos, but they are definitely tasty and filling. Service. The service is always friendly. The cooks are usually talking, and will gladly let you into their conversation. The cashier during every visit I've had is always a lady, and she is nice. Very simple, nothing extra. Ambiance. Tables are always clean, the floor is typically clean or being cleaned. One thing I appreciate about this place is even during down time, the employees are always doing something. Makes me feel better knowing they care about the cleanliness of their work place. I come to this location every 8 weeks, due to me being out here for work every 8 weeks. I've never had a bad experience at this place, and I've also never seen it empty. I will keep coming back, and I recommend this place to anyone that's looking for some good tacos. So hard to find good tacos out here that are under 5.95 each. These are half the price and twice the size. Never change Taqueria Lorena's

Ahhh...Taqueria Lorena's located on the corner next to Mesquite & Oak BBQ on 13th Street and Vestal Street. It's a very busy and popular place that opens fairly late. Street parking only but a small parking lot in the back. The restaurant is simple, plain, and modest. They do have indoor and outdoor seating available. It's a hole-in-the-wall place that they turn out delicious and authentic food. I got two tacos with Al Pastor (Marinated Pork) and Tripas (Beef Intestines). The pork was flavorful with a hint of spice. The intestines, I usually like when it's deep-fried and comes out crispy and crunchy. However, they don't make them this way. They are stewed and soft. Well, some pieces were good, and some were chewy/hard. Horchata - a bit chalky like another reviewer said. Which I agree with. I'll try another drink next time. I am glad I revisited this place.

My go to Mexican place! Sooooo good! Tacos, burritos, nachos, fries! It's all tasty. We usually order ahead and come pick up but then have seating as well. There is also a few parking spots in the back which makes pick up easy. Will definitely continue to enjoy food here!

Located on the corner of 13th and Vestal. Not too sure if there's a parking lot but there is street parking if you get lucky. Found this local place on Yelp when looking for nearby Mexican food. I called in and placed an order for 4 items. It was estimated 10 mins for the order to be ready. We got carne asada fries which was the main dish to share with my sister and we really enjoyed it. The fries were still crispy by the time we got home. The vegan crispy taco was overly fried and oily so I didn't finish that. The soft taco was good but really spicy, they used some jalapeño or chili pepper in the pico de gallo. The sandwich/torta's bread was underwhelming but the stuffing was good.

    Regular Asada Burrito

To start the tortilla was lightly toasted which added a nice subtle crunch to the burrito- was not expecting this but was pleasantly surprised. The meat was flavorful, it had a hint of lime. The most stand out part of this burrito is that there was virtually no grease, the whole thing from top to bottom was NOT oily - typically I feel pretty heavy after a big burrito but I feel really good/not bloated at all - and I scarfed it down. Loss of one point for the distribution of ingredients throughout the burrito-rice was really only in the bottom half of my burrito and the top was a little empty. But great place would go back. Made the burrito so quick - zero complaints about service.

If you're in the mood for Mexican street tacos, look no further than Taqueria Lorena's. The restaurant is nestled on a bustling corner just two blocks right off of 13th Street/Old Oakland Road exit of 101 freeway South in North San Jose. The menu offers a variety of Mexican food including a variety of meat fillings in their tacos, from tender carnitas to chile rub grilled al pastor, all served on fresh tortillas. The meats are seasoned, grilled to juicy perfection, and topped with a sprinkle of onions, fresh cilantro, and a squeeze of lime - each bite is packed with flavor. And don't skip the homemade salsas! The green salsa is tangy with a touch of heat, while the smoky red salsa adds a delicious kick. Each taco is assembled with care, and you can taste the freshness of every ingredient. For this visit, I ordered 4 tacos: lengua (beef tongue cooked in broth & spices, tripas (intestines seasoned & grilled), buche (pork stomach seasoned & slowly braised) and chorizo (handcrafted Mexican pork sausage). It's a no-frills spot with a casual vibe, but the flavors are absolutely top-tier. Their fast service and satisfying tacos will keep you coming back.

Inside the shrimp and steak quesadilla (minus guac)
    Annabelle R.

There seems to be a taqueria on every corner in this area, but Taqueria Lorena's is THE place to go, serving up some good tacos, burritos, and other classic mexican dishes in a casual setting with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating available. I got a steak and shrimp quesadilla minus the guac, on a large flour tortilla, and it was massive! I probably could have been full off the regular size, especially since they stuff it like a giant burrito (wrapped in foil for takeout), but it's all good cuz it was so delicious, I didn't mind having leftovers for later. The shrimp and steak were juicy and seasoned well, and created the perfect balance of flavor with all the other fresh ingredients. It didn't need any additional sauces on the side, but they were good too. I especially liked the green sauce, which I thought had better flavor and was milder than the red. Parking kinda sucks. The tiny lot in the back was full and street parking in the neighborhood was limited on a Sunday evening (though I got lucky and found a spot just a block away). It may take longer to find parking than to get your food. The service here is quick and efficient, with friendly workers. Even though there seemed to be an ongoing line of customers, they kept the order line moving, and the wait for my food to be ready was no more than 10 minutes. Note, this restaurant doesn't have the most inviting environment, and it isn't located in the cleanest or safest neighborhood, but the value of what you get here makes up for that.

What's the difference between the regular and super burritos?

Do you have rolled tacos? Not flautas, but taquitos, with guacamole, shredded cheddar and cotija, like they make in Southern California.

Do you must mean Flautas? It is the word for flute in Spanish hence the name. The answer is Yes! We make beef or chicken filled. Topped with guacamole, sour cream and lettuce.

Lots of take out orders and dine in orders. I ordered 5 super tacos to share with different meats (pollo, carne asada, al pastor, carnitas and chorizo). The super tacos come with cilantro, onions, avocado, sour cream, cheese and pico de gallo. All the tacos come with homemade corn tortillas - you could tell they were fresh. The tacos are big, not small at all. The carne asada, carnitas and pollo was my favorite. Al pastor was good as well, chorizo was not that flavorful for me. However, they also have 3 types of salsas (green, red and a creamy orange) you can use to help add some more flavor if needed. I plan to come back here to try their burritos and tortas as well next time.

The tacos were good and the tortilla they used was quite thick. The enchiladas had good flavor as well, and I would be interested in trying their enchilada with the verde sauce next time. Their prices have steadily risen over time and they have updated their menu prices as well. One thing that elevated this restaurant to 4 stars is their sauce! The red sauce and green sauce recipe is definitely unique compared to other taquerias. The red sauce bottle helps with the flavor tremendously and without it I would have rated this place lower.

We were seated at the booth in the back, which I have always admired, but I now realize it has its disadvantages. It is right by the bathroom, which got a bit of traffic on our visit. That's not such a big deal. The bigger concerns I have are: (1) there is no cushioning for those of us with little of our own and (2) you have to sit up fairly straight and if you want to lean against the wall, you're likely to rub shoulders with the wall hanging. Next time I will ask to be seated someplace else as there were two 2-tops outside. The food is always made from quality ingredients and I'm glad to see they are experimenting with pricing and quantity. I did not see mention of their daily happy hour, which was a feature of last year's visit so that may be gone. However, they now have a five tacos platter which offers relatively good value from the menu prices. This would be good for sharing for two people I think. But that is not what we ordered on this visit. My wife ordered two vegetarian (verduras) tacos and the Blood Orange/Jalapeno mocktail. I ordered the huevos rancheros. Unlike Luna, tortilla chips and salsa are not complimentary. So we let our appetites build. Our food arrived fairly quickly, so that was good and we dug in. My wife had ordered two extra eggs (extra charge) to accompany her tacos, and I think she was glad she did. The vegetarian tacos were not terribly generous for the price. My huevos rancheros came in a neatly stacked pile. My wife thought to ask if they had a hot sauce and they do! So we requested their hottest version. It was a welcome addition to the meal (gratis). A little vinegary, but plenty of heat. The mocktail was quite good. Like Spindrift and some other sparkling waters, it is not sweetened, but it had a good amount of strained blood orange juice, and you could taste the fresh jalapeño. I wonder if they have tried adding mint to this as I think it would be welcome. Maybe next time I will ask if they can experiment with me by adding some mint.

Service was not good at all. We had to wait over 15 minutes to get our order taken and then we watched our food stand on the counter top for another 5 minutes. Once we were served we were never checked up on until the end when we had to flag them down to get the check. I don't think we'll be coming back.

This made it so seamless to reserve here. Our group got there at opening and our table was ready and most of the group was already seated when we got there. Drink orders were flowing as the waitress caught up to me and I got a cafe de olla. We browsed the menu and the more I looked the harder it was to pick one thing. I ended up choosing chilaquiles with a bandera sauce and carne asada as the added protein. The rest of the table got all different types of dishes from carne en su jugo to birria to omelettes. While we enjoyed each other's company sipping on our cafecito I enjoyed the ambiance of the space. Nicely decorated for the holidays. Since it was opening time it wasn't as loud as I imagine it can get in there. The sun did shine on the faces of those facing the windows which was not enjoyable for them. There was no way to cover the sun either since it was coming in from the top windows with no shade. My food came out along with the rest of the plates and we went right in to enjoy them. My favorite chilaquiles was covered in the white sauce. The red and green were good but the white sauce was my favorite. The carne was cooked well but I could taste it wasn't marinated or lacked flavor. I didn't get a knife to cut the meat so it was very difficult to enjoy a piece with my chilaquiles. It was hard to cut with a butter knife. I thought it would be a piece of steak but it was a piece of carne asada. Eggs were scrambled and cooked well. The whole plate was filling, had flavor, and was a good portion. The cafe de olla had a good flavor but a tad sweet for my preference. The space in here is a vibe. A fun place to enjoy large gatherings. I came for breakfast but will update when I come back to visit for dinner. Bathrooms are clean. Staff was welcoming and efficient in taking care of our group. Hospitality was a 10/10. Parking in the am was a breeze but at prime time I can see it being a complete nightmare so plan accordingly. I enjoyed my visit and will come back to check out the dinner menu.

As we cruised by looking for parking, it was clear we had picked a lively spot--buzzing energy everywhere: inside, outside, and even upstairs. We were quickly seated indoors, though on such a beautiful day we assumed we'd be offered outdoor seating. No big deal--we asked, and they happily moved us to a shaded table with plenty of space. Much better. Drinks were first on the agenda: margaritas and a michelada, all refreshing and exactly what we were hoping for. Our server, Michelle, was friendly, attentive, and even shared some helpful tips about perks with our American Express Platinum Card--a nice, unexpected touch. We kicked things off with queso fundido, though a brief mix-up brought us chips and guacamole from another table first. Once we pointed it out, it was quickly handled--but honestly, it looked so good we ended up ordering it anyway. No regrets there--it definitely hit the spot. We hadn't planned on a full dinner, so we went with lighter bites. The tuna tostadas and halibut ceviche were a hit--fresh, flavorful, and perfect for sharing. I went with the tortilla soup, which was good and nicely presented... but didn't quite wow me. I've been on a bit of a tortilla soup tour lately, and this one leaned a little heavy on the tortillas (soaking up too much broth) and had more zucchini than I expected. That said, major points for serving it piping hot--something a lot of places miss--and the avocado was a great addition. One thing worth noting: I didn't catch it until later, but there's a 4% living wage surcharge added to the bill--and it's taxed. That caught me off guard, and I'm still not entirely sure how that works in California. Overall, a fun, energetic spot with great drinks, tasty bites, and solid service. Not perfect, but definitely good enough to come back for another round.

Our cups especially. They mentioned they are running out of cups, but that isn't an excuse to give out water to the table with every cup being stained with Tajin. - Everything on the sharing grill was a bit bland. - Restrooms are terrible. There are only two single stalls and the line to wait is in the way of the workers, so we had to move back and forth to let them through.

Why have I just tried this Mexican restaurant?! I've always seen their food truck a few years back…read morebefore they began to gain enough finances for brick and mortar store fronts! Yay for mom and pop eats :) Well, I was introduced to this place by my best friend, but I never carried cash to go, so I never tried it until another friend of mine mentioned the Blossom Hill location and them accepting credit card payment! (Yay, but let's not get carried away). I came on a Tuesday evening with friends and saw the place packed! Thats always a good sign~ We each ordered an individual dish to eat and chat. I was intrigued by the burrito bowl and worried it may be small. Jokes on me, it was way more than enough! Don't let the size of the bowl trick you into thinking it's not enough. The avocado was nice and perfectly ripe, the crema sauce drizzle was not overwhelmingly added onto the ball, and the salsa had a nice acid and tomatoey compliment to the beans, meat, shredded lettuce, rice, and cheese! I think this place is pretty solid for the price point and quality. They also have a free for all sauce bar too which is nice! Everything is so spicy, except for the green salsa lol. Servers seemed okay. They didn't really check on us, but it feels like a service yourself kind of place. You grab your own waters, condiments, and sauce here. If you want their chunky mango salsa, you have to flag a server down! However, 1 star is knocked off for the credit card charge, which I'm not even sure what the percentage is. I didn't see a sign at the register or perhaps I didn't look hard enough. I think this should be mentioned on the door and possibly their menu (if it isn't already). Can someone confirm if the credit card charge is 3%? Even my receipt wasn't clearly mentioning the percentage--just the fact that there's a credit card processing fee.

There is a QR code (see photo) Cali-taco: it's a good size, fries are crispy. We recommend this one. Would get it again. Quesabirria: 2.5/5 - it was just ok. Wasn't as flavorful as I've had before Super burrito: 3.9/5 - it's a hefty size. Very filling. I had to eat half otherwise I'd go into full nap mode after. I'd recommend it for any burrito lover and someone who can eat a lot.
