I was thrilled to take two of my grown children to Christmas Brunch at The Fountain at the Fairmont. My expectations were high since it was $100 per person--a steep price for a buffet--but I was excited about spending quality time together without the hassle of cooking. Overall, the buffet delivered on food and ambiance. There were countless stations offering freshly made omelets, waffles, and French toast for breakfast, a salad bar, a charcuterie section, and a seafood station with fresh crab, prawns, and sushi. For lunch, we enjoyed prime rib and ham carved to order, accompanied by sides like mushroom truffle ravioli, roasted vegetables, and various potato options. The dessert spread was impressive, featuring a chocolate fondue fountain with fresh fruit and Rice Krispie treats, torched-to-order crème brûlée, and a variety of bite-sized cakes and mousse desserts. The festive Christmas décor and proximity to the outdoor ice-skating rink added to the holiday spirit, making the setting truly magical. Unfortunately, the service was the biggest disappointment and prevented this from being a 5-star experience, despite the built-in gratuity on the bill. From the start, we waited over 10 minutes after being seated to even be greeted by our server. Throughout the meal, I repeatedly had to ask for basic things like water refills, a second mimosa (which took three separate requests), and for empty plates to be cleared. I had told our server, Alberto, to keep the mimosas coming and was assured they'd be waiting at the table when we returned with food--but they weren't. At one point, I had to ask the manager for water because the service was so lacking. Adding to the frustration, it took another 10 minutes to receive the bill after handing over my credit card. As a former restaurant server, I recognize the challenges of holiday shifts and always make a point to thank the staff working on special days. I also understand what it takes to provide basic service during a brunch buffet--and this wasn't a matter of being overwhelmed, as Alberto seemed to prioritize a larger party of eight over our smaller group of three. The ambiance and food made for a memorable Christmas celebration, but the inattentive service dampened the experience. I really wanted fluffy pancakes but didn't feel like making them, so I figured I'd treat my boyfriend and myself to a nice local brunch without a crowd. I booked a reservation and we walked over. The restaurant is located inside the Hilton, the ambiance is beautiful and elegant. Made for a nice brunch. Let me start by saying that our waiter was elite. He was on top of everything. We didn't even have to ask for water, coffee, or extra napkins. These little things made our experiences so much more enjoyable--10/10 for service. The food: Pancakes for the table Steak and poached eggs (ya girl was hungry) Lobster benedict for Mr. Fancy Pants The pancakes were exactly what I wanted, and I was very happy with the amount of fluff. This restaurant made me realize just how terrible of service I could receive in a sit down location. It's inside the hotel, so you would imagine they would have a certain expectation level to meet (since the front hotel staff was amazing throughout my experience). The inside of the restaurant is beautiful and it really makes you think everything will be worthwhile...but I was absolutely wrong. First - the espresso machine was down in the morning. It's kind of ridiculous that they would be open during breakfast on the weekend and not have a working espresso machine. Additionally, our server kept talking in the direction of the broken espresso machine as he was checking to see if it was working or broken, which made it hard to hear anything he was saying. The food tasted fine (we got steak and eggs) and we completed the bill by using our room number and tipping in cash. Apparently, the server forgot he already gave us our bill so he came by again with the bill a second time, only to surprise himself that we had already signed the first bill. It was extremely odd and just left a confusing impression of the service. Yet we decided to go again the next day, for the sake of convenience. The steak and eggs had actually been delicious, so I opted for the dish again. This time, one of the servers asked if I wanted some coffee and they happily poured me a cup. The coffee was scalding hot so I ended up waiting for it near the end of my meal to cool before enjoying it. I was surprised to find out that the 8 oz cup of coffee pour was charged to me for $6! I found this a bit sleazy since it's just normal coffee and it's actually charged by the cup or pot. I found the food to be great but the service to be atrocious, and I would tell most people to steer clear of this location unless you really don't want to leave the hotel. Overall, there could certainly be improvements. read more

I ordered the Steak and eggs and it was so good! I got the meat cooked medium and the eggs over medium and it was probably the best thing on their menu! The inside seating was also very nice! I really liked the modern simple design because it was very open, brightly lite with a modern white interior with blue ascents. It was also very clean and spacious. In my party they also ordered the three egg omelette and Salmon Florentine. Service was 10/10! All the staff was very friendly and attentive. My group felt special and well taken care of. We had a reservation for a big group to celebrate my coworker's baby shower. I really like how they even prepared a separate section for us with an extra table to place our gifts and to have more space. It is located inside the Hilton hotel and street parking is free on Sundays. If it's any other day there is metered parking, valet parking and garage parking a few blocks away. This location is a hidden gem and can easily be a good brunch date or for hosting a group gathering. I definitely plan to come back and I highly recommend them! read more

Everything about our breakfast here was first rate! The costs was higher than what most of us prefer to spend for brunch! the service, the atmosphere and the food were all outstanding. Our table started with a fruit bowl, feta, vegetable and fruit platter and a fruit platter. For main dishes, omelletes, Benedicts and my wife got the avocado toast. She said that it was the best that she has had. We also got a bread platter. Our coffee carafe was refilled multiple times as was my wifes tea. Beautiful restaurant after some updating and remodel to ownership by the Hilton instead of the Fairmont. The lovely atmosphere is bright and pleasant for brunch. I do miss the buffet there it was really amazing. Service was good. My French toast was dry for my taste. I prefer a more saturated bread pudding like texture to mine. I decided that I wanted steak and some form of breakfast this morning. I went on Yelp and conducted a search, Fountain popped up and their steak and eggs looked so yummy! I walked over and was seated immediately, such great hospitality, which doesn't compare to the food! Let me tell you...that steak was so delicious that I ate it slow to savor the taste. On Sunday, November 3rd we went here to celebrate a birthday. We both opted not to order the buffet. The inside décor was lovely and we were seated next to the "Blue Room". It was beautiful to look at while I enjoyed my brunch. Maybe it's because I love blue, because for someone else, it could have been too much. We were also seated so we could watch the Steelers game. Since I had made reservations, we were seated immediately. The wait staff was friendly and efficient. Both of our orders were correct and received in a timely manner. The Birthday Girl ordered the Salmon Sandwich, which came with a salad. She thoroughly enjoyed both her sandwich and salad. I ordered the Dungeness Crab Cakes, which sat atop some sort of delicious aioli. I didn't touch the papaya salad that accompanied the crab cakes. In addition to the crab cakes, I ordered the Fountain Express. I chose two scrambled eggs with a side of bacon. When the meal was over, I had one crab cake and a couple pieces of bacon remaining. The crab cakes were so tasty and with each bite you could taste the lump crab meat. Here's What I Think... IMHO I was so happy when my friend suggested having lunch at the Fountain restaurant, after we visited the San Jose Museum of Art. It has been decades since I last ate here. On weekends brunch is served between 7:00 and 2 p.m. Buffet brunch will run you $39 or you can order from their regular menu. I opted for the Brioche French toast for $14, and my friend ordered the salmon sandwich on brioche served with french fries for $16. Mario, was our server extraordinaire! He was very attentive, friendly, and helpful. Our food came out piping hot on warm plates and looking amazingly appetizing. The food did not disappoint! My friend scarfed down her whole sandwich because she loved it so much, and I brought home half of my delicious French toast. When our bill came, my friend noticed that her sandwich entree was charged $18 instead of the $16 printed on the menu. We brought this to the attention of Mario who quickly took care of the mistake. Sergio the waiter decided to INCREASE his tip outside of my signed receipt total. The bigger issue is the fact I spoke with the restaurant, they acted concerned, said they would look into it and call back. Nope. No call. I'm just out whatever Sergio decided I should tip. I left over 15% for $114 bill (for only 2 people) and also tipped additional cash to the gal ensuring our water never ran out. I usually tip more on the bill, but was not impressed with Sergio's service so did not. I thought that was my right as a paying customer. Not at this restaurant! Food is not worth twice the price. Service was ok, but it's not ok to change the total to increase a tip! No no no. The restaurant should have returned my call and made this right. I called everywhere to book a Mothers Day event with my daughter all over San Jose and I was lucky this one still had an opening for reservations for Afternoon Tea. The guy who booked me in was extremely helpful. He even sent me the Afternoon Tea menu by email. When we arrived, they seated us. The waiter pulled out our chair and gave us the five star treatment. They Afternoon Tea table set up was all there. The tea strainer and we both were able to receive a pot of our own. We had tiers of a variety of tea sandwiches, scones with three different spreads and delectable desserts. The service was good, but they seemed surprised to have customers even though it was School Graduations and Fathers Day crowd, almost unsure what to do, attention to detail was lacking, almost lost in the past. The prices were high. $24 for most breakfast entrees. My daughter was served an omelette with a prominent human hair and when told the waiter began enumerating the ingredients in the order - until he was stopped by the comment " Hair is not included " He brought another. My omelette was 90% egg, pretty scarce any mushrooms or ham, but by that time I was glad I did not find hair in mine. My husband's huevos rancheros was excellent, obviously we ordered incorrectly. The menu seemed confused. I probably had less in the eggs because I did not want all the items included in the description. The Eggs Benedict was made with spinach which is usually Eggs Florentine.
