Is it bad that the only reason we chose 111 Bakery is because the line for Duc Huong was so long next door? [[ Parking ]] This plaza is WILD. Parking is stressful/difficult with the amount of cars coming and and amount of cars leaving. Every time I have to come here and find parking I'm always super annoyed. If you head towards the back of the plaza, there seems to be a lot more parking but a lot of people are squished around this area so it's stressful. [[ Food ]] Generally I thought the food was pretty decent. We both got the Combination #11 for our Banh Mi of choice and found the sandwich to be pretty good and full of ingredients. No complaints here. We also got to try some egg tarts, a pandan coconut jelly dessert, and a vanilla cream bun and there were all really good too. [[ Service ]] You wait in a line until it's your turn and you order. Pretty straightforward in my opinion. They get really busy so we waited quite a bit (20 minutes) so it's not a quick in and out type of place.
First time here, and here's my experience: 1. Ambience: I arrived late so they already cleaned up. This place looked clean and small. There was no place to dine-in, it was take out only. 2. Service: customer needs to pay at least $10 by card which was a bit inconvenient. Staffs were friendly and welcoming. 3. Food (4/5) - Pandan coconut pound cake (3/5): kinda sweet for me, its texture like cotton cake but thicker. It was topped with dried coconut. The coconut flavor was the most prominent, and you could really smell the coconut too. - Spicy pork floss biscottis (4/5): it was not spicy at all, my kids could eat it. And they loved it. It was a baguette cut into small pieces and was seasoned by fish sauce and butter. It's a good snack. Overall, I would come back to try their fresh pastries.
Pineapple bun wasn't like Cantonese pineapple bun. Topping tastes like it but when you bite into it. It's like a loaf of bread. The size is smaller which makes it expensive. A visitor from my office gave us pate chard and pork & egg bun which I thought was nice. I didn't get the chance to ask where. I'm only aware that he lived in East San Jose. I looked around Yelp and found this place and another off Tully. I didn't want to drive far so returned back to this bakery and sure enough. He bought it from here. The pork was sweet and the egg was hard boiled in the taller bun. The pate chard I liked better. It had more flavor with a hint of spice. When I have cravings, I'll come back here.
Never have I ever heard about this bakery until we were waiting at Duc Huong for our sandwiches. We noticed all the different types of buns that was on display so decided to go inside to take a look. Decided to order the Char Siu Bun and it was the best bun I've ever had. It was warm and extremely savory! I also picked up a Pandan Coconut Hawaiian Sweet Rolls and it was just as good as it looked. A typical sweet roll with a hint of coconut and Pandan flavor. Liked that it was fluffy. So glad we stumbled upon this bakery because we wouldn't have been able to experience the delicious bun and sweet roll. Can't wait to stop by again next time I'm in the area and try their other buns!
I've heard so many good things about this bakery through the years. Unfortunately, it did not live up to the hype for me. I was a bit disappointed with the items I bought. Most of the baos was not portioned well with the amounts of bao to filling. The baos actually were a bit dry and hard to get through all of it.
They're bacon egg croissant is sooo good. I haven't found a western sandwich that's cheap and under 9 dollars but this bakery as it! I'm so happy. The only complaint is that the onions needs to be washed or something. It leaves a bitter taste and stank my mouth. Thats why I knocked a star off. Other than that, friendly service and quick. A lot of workers here. It's a small place but they organized the queue. It may have taken 15 minutes to get three of the bánh mí. I would still go here and handicapped parking is nearby. I'm not sure if you can roll in with your wheelchair unless you go when it's not busy.
I do love their combination sandwiches. It's my go to sandwich whenever I come here, but they also have different pastries to offer. The bakery is right next to the Hong sandwiches, which is a very tight competitor but if you come inside, there's still a line for sandwiches, which is really good if you're into pastries I recommend to try One of them Durian cream puffs. They are big and filled with filling in the taste. You could definitely taste the Durian flavor. Come check it out.
This is the second time I came for the pastries because I wanted to like this place. When I'm next door waiting on my sandwich at Duc Huong I come here. Honestly, the pastries taste so dry. I got the the durian puff pastry, sounds so delicious because I'm a big fan of durian. I have to say it taste so artificial and it leaves an after taste in your mouth. Yuck! This is my second time trying it and both times it tastes awful! I'm really surprised they have such rave reviews for their pastries and not one thing I've ordered was amazing. While the matcha cookie is the only decent thing here. Their croissants and guava pastry is so dry and not a lot of guava but still tasted really artificial, not homemade by any means. While their service is pleasant. They are very friendly and efficient, but their pastries are not that great. I think I'll still to CA bakehouse since they never disappoint.
Another Banh Mi place next to Duc Huong. I tried this place since my friend really likes the Xiu Mai (meatball) and PLEASE if you are ever willing to try something other than duc huong please try the meatball Banh mi it is so good tender and bread is nice and crispy outside fluffy inside all the ingredients are fresh but I'm just so sad that I couldn't give it a 5 star due to the Dac Biet not being that good. They added pork floss which I know a lot of places do but how they added it made it have a texture of having a wet paper in your Banh mi which kinda threw me off and also it had a stronger flavor than the other ingredients so it covered it. I don't know if it's the brand of the pork floss they use or it might be old, JUST A GUESS DONT ACCUSE THEM OF ANYTHING. The staff there is so nice and welcoming so please give their meatball banh mi a try it is definitely worth it!
I went to 111 Bakery for pork Banh Mi and it was absolutely delicious. This place was busy at lunch. Right next door is another place that sells Banh Mi, but here you get your money's worth. The Banh Mi is huge, but they do sell minis as well. Pork Banh Mi was cooked perfectly and was super tender. The store is beautiful inside and the pastries all look mouth watering. I coming back to try some of those next time.
I went here because I saw they were selling a pandan Hawaiian bread! Affordable price, quick service, and the bread was super fluffy with subtle taste of pandan. Each piece was addicting as I kept wanting to eat more... I microwaved it for 15 secs and sprinkled in condense milk which was the perfect dessert for me :)
Good place to get buns and a drink while waiting for sandwiches next door. There's no line here. My Vietnamese coffee $5 had a hint of hazelnut. Not that it is a bad thing but I would have preferred a regular one. The ham and egg bun $3 was OK. I still need to try their sandwiches.
I had never frequented this bakery until after their remodel a few years back, and I am sad to have had many missed years of the spicy pork floss toasts and a very creamy decadent pate. The pate is $6 for a half pound tub, and the toasts run around ~$10ish. However, I have visited a few times and the toasts were not available and was told it would be maybe 2-3 days later that they would be available. I have tried some of the baked goods and the meat bun and crab bun are pretty tasty. I did not like as much the sweet pastries I got. I also saw they have their moon cakes ready now for the mid-Autumn festival. They are also available on DoorDash for the days when you can't make it there.
This has been our go to for pastries whenever we're in San Jose. Located super close to where my daughter lives. 111 Bakery is in the McKee Plaza Shopping Complex. Parking can be difficult during peak hours but manageable. Their space is small so oftentimes it gets very crowded. I never fail to order their cheese rolls, pork bun and pate chaud. They are reasonably priced compared to other bakeries. My only complaint is that their cashiers sometimes speaks little english so it's hard to communicate. The first time we came here, there was a really long line but they have gotten better. I believe that they have undergone some renovation as the place looked more bright and cleaner compared to the first time we came here about 2 years ago. I definitely recommend 111 Bakery. Honestly, this place deserves 5-stars these days. It's one of the best around town. They have totally upgraded the food quality and items since the last time I visited years ago. Variety is good. Bread textures are fluffy, soft, and delicious. Employees are all very well trained and the ladies are helpful. Credit cards & cash accepted. If you really want a good footlong sized Banh Mi, it's thick and big in portions packed in them. I'm glad that I finally revisited. The busy parking lot is always congested, so come early if possible. Duc Huong sandwiches opened next door as well, so traffic has multiplied in front. Popular spot. Vibes are excited for businesses plus McDonald's too. Vietnamese and Hispanic grocery stores are still in business. I ordered two chicken pies, two BBQ pork buns, 1 vegetarian Banh Mi, 1 BBQ chicken Banh Mi, and 1 Grilled Pork Banh Mi sandwich full sized. All were made to excellence and the size is noticeably larger than most. You're definitely getting good quality and good bang for your dollars here. Decent prices and awesome in ingredients. $6.50 per sandwich this big is totally worth it. Chicken pies and BBQ pork buns plus other pastries/breads are all good here. You can easily find something you want in the $3 average range. The place looks great and it's still a very tiny shop, but the environment is surprisingly very good these days. No more old looking outdated store here. Standards are modern and efficient. I will definitely be back for more for sure. I'm liking it now. read more
I've been here numerous times for their pineapple buns and hot dog bun. There was a time they were out of pineapple buns though. They have a large selection of pastries and baked goods. I've tried their pandan coconut sweet rolls (packaged and located on the left side of the store); the pandan flavor is pretty light but it's still good (like the Hawaiian rolls). They have a drink menu. I've tried their passionfruit juice - it's really sweet but adding more ice helps dilute it. Gave the banh mi a try - got the pork roll and bbq pork. Portion is good. The bbq pork could be more charred, bread could be more crunchy (it's pretty flat when you bite down on it). If I had to compare, I like Duc Huong banh mi's more (they're right next door; their bread and pate is a lot better). Place can get busy! Expect a bit of a wait if there's a line. Service has always been smooth - good customer service. Well lit and clean place. read more

Came here for some baked goods. Got some baked pork buns and pineapple bun. Though the pork bun was flavorful, sad to say that it was cold. Pineapple was good as well. But both baked goods need to be warmed up. So this isn't a quick order and eat on the go which is what I wanted to happen since you need to heat the baked goods up. Their Thai tea with boba was not bad. Could use a tad more tea flavor for my liking. Service was quick as not many people inside. And there is no seating area. read more
Love this bakery! There's duc huong sandwiches right next door which always has a long wait, while no wait for this one. Great selection of pastries, breads, banh mis. I like getting the mini bahn mi's which fill me up just enough and only $4. To note- they take cash only if your purchase is under $10. read more

A long overdue review! I love this place!!! Wonderful food with reasonable prices. I always get the Vietnamese meat balls aka xíu mại. Their version is my favorite. I like that they have 2 sizes to choose from!! I often get the small one, in addition to other pastries. I like to get BBQ pork bun, crab bun, and durian cream puff. Yum!! Service is wonderful as well. Once time they got my order made incorrectly, I just asked and showed them the receipt , they remade my order right away. It's a Vietnamese establishment but super English friendly. Once you order a Vietnamese sandwich, you'll get a ticket and hang around until they call you up. Very quick! No seating, but there's a tiny standing table in the corner that you could stand and enjoy your newly made bánh mì. read more
Quality/Quantity - While waiting for our sandwiches next door at Duc Huong, my wife came here for a matcha pineapple bun. It was dry, even with the matcha custard filling. They sell sandwiches here also; see pictures. Atmosphere - Small local bakery. Clean, neat, and organized. Open 7 days a week from 6am to 6pm. Plenty of mall parking. Service - Good. Price - $3, reasonably priced. Well, if it was of better quality...?!?! Owner Comment - Congrats on your success since 1992. read more

I was in the area for an appointment and wanted Pate Chaud so Yelp'd and 111 Bakery came up. Unfortunately, they did not have any but I still tried their other offerings. 1. Meat Pork Bun $5 2. Hot Dog Bun $3 3. Char Siu Bun $3 4. Custard Bun $3 5. Vietnamese Coffee $5 6. Beef Pastrami with Cheese Sandwich $8 Buns were average so not sure I would go back for that. I prefer Chinese buns. Vietnamese coffee was good - strong enough and not too sweet. The Pastrami sandwich was very tasty and good size for $8. I would have that again but I would be willing to try the Vietnamese sandwiches next time. They are right next to the famous Duc Huong Sandwiches shop so very tough competition - there was the usual line up next door. read more
i got the mini grilled pork banh mi ($3.50) and a meat bun ($4.50) and paid cash, as they don't accept card for orders under $10. the meat bun is not pictured, but it was definitely the star of the show. i liked the flavor of the pork inside and it went well with the slightly sweet bread exterior. the other pastries on display looked really good too. the banh mi takes longer to come out than expected; i assume they are toasting the bread so that it comes out warm and flaky. overall, really good and worth coming in if you don't feel like waiting in duc huong's long line. read more

When I'm in the San Jose area, my preferred Banh Mi Vietnamese sandwiches I usually get are from Duc Huong Sandwiches. I was planning to grab sandwiches from the McKee and Capitol location but when I parked and saw the long line, I decided to get Vietnamese sandwiches from the next door neighbor, 111 Bakery. I arrived on a Saturday afternoon for lunch. The bakery is located in an older plaza off McKee and Capitol in San Jose. There is accessible parking in the large busy parking lot. As soon as I walked in there was no line and all I saw were appetizingly freshly baked pastries in the window display cases. The staff was friendly and efficient. I ordered a ham and gio thu sandwich, grilled pork sandwich, bbq pork belly sandwich, pate chaud, and a cream cheese croissant roll. Everything was delicious and savory. My Vietnamese ham sandwich had the right scrumptious combo of pickled vegetables, ham, and pate spread. The pastries had the right amount of savoriness and puffy goodness. Price point of the Banh mi and pastries was good. Overall I enjoyed my experience at 111 Bakery. Since I am in the area quite a bit, I will be back. read more

I wish the staff were more approachable. They don't acknowledge anyone, they ignore eye contact and it's not till we are face to face that they acknowledge their customers. The pastries are good and prices are decent but it can be off putting with the staff's attitude. I've been here often enough to know how they are with their customers but my visit yesterday was the worst I've dealt with. I finally got a smile on a staff's face and that was to call me over to get my order. read more
Triple One Bakery is a bakery that has been around for awhile. It's located in a large shopping plaza with 24 Hr Fitness, Cardenas Market, next to Duc Huong Sandwiches and Jam's Kitchen. There is plenty of parking in this plaza. Simple decor, simple decorations. The workers there were friendly and helpful. I tried their guava turnover. The filling was sweet but not overtly sweet. Though, the pastry was on the stale side. Probably good if I took it home and put it in the toaster oven. Very affordable prices . read more

Only $3.50 for a mini banh mi is such a bang for your buck in this economy! My mom introduced me to this bakery and I fell in love with their pate which added great flavor. If you're a pate lover like me, this one is more smooth and creamy. The actual bread itself is standard - tastes like your typical french baguette for a banh mi. The mini size is generously sized and was a great bite for lunch without feeling too full. It was my first time getting it myself and the service was OK. I was the only person inside and they all just stared at me without saying anything when I stood at the front of the counter. The lady was nice when I picked up my sandwich. This place has improved so much over the years! Customer Service: The workers are nice and there are multiple people working so there's not usually a wait. They ask you want you would like right as you walk in and then you pay at the counter. No complaints, just fast, simple service. I do appreciate that the recent time, the lady who helped me packaged my large order carefully and gave me lots of napkins without me asking! Parking: The plaza is quite large, but it gets packed, especially on the side where the bakery is (it's right next to Duc Huong). Still, you should be able to fins parking soon enough. Just be careful of the drivers. Pricing: Very fair pricing-super affordable. Pastries are about $2-4, compared to other places that are $5+ per pastry. Food: My mom loves the pate chaud/pate so (flaky pastry with minced meat inside) here so I get a big order for her each time I'm here. Their other items are all good, like the small hot dogs, pizza bun, cream puff (huge!). You can't go wrong. Atmosphere: It can get busy, but the line moves quickly. It's a pick-pay-go place, unless you order a sandwich, then you might need to wait a bit. I'm really impressed with how the place has changed from a more cluttered, univiniting space to the bakery place it is now. It is probably under new management. For a long time, I didn't even know what it was called because the sign was in Chinese character's, but now it's in English. Thanks! read more
