Delicious cakes and breads! Love the tres leches cakes! Super happy they have online ordering now and Apple Pay!

We found this bakery through Google search many years ago. I am not really sure how to put my experience in words but I will try. You know that toxic relationship with someone you know will disappoint and hurt you but you keep going back anyway? Exactly. There. That's them. My husband and daughter love their vanilla tres leches cake. I do too. It is pretty amazing. So where is the hurt part you may be wondering? The last three times we ordered the cake, they got our order wrong. Sometimes it's the wrong size, sometimes it's the wrong flavor and one time they didn't have our order at all. I had ordered online these past few times so the flavor and size were all in writing. I don't know how they messed it up. When I called them, they refused to change or do anything to make up. You know that toxic person who disappoints every time, yet we make excuses for their bad behavior- maybe they were busy, not in a good mood, one more chance, think of the good times ( or taste in this case)- ditto. They do need better customer service for sure. They are a good drive away from us too and are not cheap. Now the million dollar question- will I go back? I never order my birthday cake from them but give in when my husband and daughter request theirs. For all the inconvenience of getting the wrong order, no corrections and spending a lot of time on the phone with them, I really don't think it's worth ordering from them. Also like that toxic relationship, they won't pick up the phone easily. You may have to try for hours. But if you are okay with getting mocha instead of vanilla or a smaller size round cake instead of the big sheet cake that you ordered, you will be fine. Don't expect to get what you ordered, and you may even be delighted. Ambiance is ordinary, no place to sit, it's an average bakery. read more

Right after you eat at the taqueria across the way, it's kind of a must to stop by and have some Mexican bread and pastries. They have lots of options to choose from, and the ladies are working hard to prepare those options. We had a variety of different breads/pastries, and we were pleased. Came here on a Wednesday afternoon for my boyfriend's birthday and there was no line. The bakery was pretty big and everything looked delicious! There were 3 types of tres leche cake to choose from so we picked the caramel tres leche cake and a cream cheese bun. The tres leche cake was one of the best I've ever had and I normally don't like tres leche! It was super sweet and moist with the perfect amount of frosting and caramel drizzle. The cream cheese bun was a bit disappointing as it wasn't actually cream cheese but a lighter version of whipped cream? The bread was also pretty dry and wasn't warmed up. Ordered a fresh strawberry tres leches cake a day before pickup. It was $59 for an 8" round cake but it looked like a 12" round cake! There were about 10 adults and 6 kids and we only finished half the cake. The cake was very good and not too sweet. Unfortunately, they didn't have a proper box for the cake and had to staple some boxes together and one part of the box was a bit soggy from the trek from SJ to San Mateo. I had to carefully place it in a big plastic bag to bring it to Pacifica, which is where the pic was taken. My friend, whom hates tres leches cake and whose wife loves tres leches cakes, actually liked this one. I think this says a lot! I'd definitely come back for their tres leches cake. When you place your order, you can text them pictures of the cake design you're looking for and they'll tell you if it's possible or not. I ended up choosing a similar design to a fellow Yelper's pic just for convenience. It turned out as expected and birthday girl thought it was beautiful. Their chocoflan cake was very meh...not like Mexico Bakery's. Would pass on that. Also tried their horchata pudding and caramel pudding, which were more like gelatin. These were both good and not too sweet. Just don't expect pudding. Wouldn't mind getting these again but would opt to try something different if I'm in the area again. read more

I was there yesterday Wednesday for the first time around 2:30pm. Since my husband wanted to try for a while, I bought a chocolate concha, 2 rebanadas de mantequilla and a custard kind of cone and we were so disappointed about the freshness...absolutely nothing was freshness.. never had a concha that hard. KEEP THE FLIES OUT!! I don't want pan con moscas! During my recent visit, I saw a big fly resting comfortably on one of the breads and a small insect flying around in the same display case. It's gross to eat something flies have been sitting on doing who knows what! Put the doors back on for the display cases!! Leaving those pastries exposed to flies is disgusting. I don't even want to think of how many breads/pastries/cookies, etc. have had flies on them all day. I like this place but after seeing the fly that didn't even move the whole time I was there, I don't think I'll come back. Maybe these people enjoy their pan with moscas. As I was walking out, I noticed a female figurine in a bikini in a lying position with its chichis exposed that was placed next to a cake in the display case near the front door. I did a double take thinking what the heck! I'm guessing it's for their "adult" themed cakes or something. First time seeing that in the bakery. I live in Mountain View and while there are certainly a couple panderias in the Mountain View/Sunnyvale area, San Jose is where it's at for the best in Mexican pastries in the South Bay. Pink Elephant is among a number of spots in East San Jose that serve top notch pan dulce and a variety of other Mexican sweets. Their tres leches cake (in multiple flavors by the way) is the best that I've had in the area hands down. Although Pink Elephant is further away than the closest panderia to my place, I am willing to go the extra mile (no pun intended) for better quality Mexican sweets. read more

This bakery is nostalgic for me. Growing up in the East Side this would be the spot to get our tres leches cake, the rosca (king's cake), and their delicious little gelatinas/jellos. I posted a picture below of what they look like. It's my favorite bakery to pick up the gelatinas de leche! Parking can be limited. They are next to the pretty popular Jalisco Taqueria. Jalisco Taqueria has a drive thru so it can get busy there. The bakery only accepts cash. There is a credit card option if you spend more than 10$ and I believe there is an atm. Not sure the fee on that. I did mention Rosca at the beginning so If you're looking to order a rosca, I highly do recommend theirs. And also placing an order ahead. They get pretty busy so placing an order beforehand is the best tip I can give. Rosca is kings bread and it is a holiday celebrated on Jan. 6. This kings cake is best paired with abuelita hot chocolate. How was everyone's tamales on Feb 2? Lol. read more

I'm not very familiar with East San Jose, but I found out about this bakery through a friend who lives in the area. The taste of Pink Elephant's pastries are just as good as they look. I bought a variety of pan dulce, a custard roll cake, and a coffee cake. Very reasonable pricing for their baked goods! I got 6 items for around $12. My favorite was the custard roll. It's the perfect item for tea time. A yellow cake with a fluffy cream filling. You can tell that the workers here put in a lot of care into making each item. That's why everything looks so appetizing. The servers are kind. No seating inside. read more

This has become our go-to bakery for birthday and celebration cakes. The tres leche cakes are moist, delicious and customizable! For a custom order they recommend ordering a week in advance and they are able to match most designs. I usually order cake toppers from Amazon and get the bakery to make the base cake. For tres leches strawberry flavor - you can also request fresh strawberries and I highly recommend that! It's a hit with all the friends. My favorite cake is the mocha tres leches - the addition of nuts on the side goes really well with the mocha flavor. The prices are also very reasonable and I highly recommend this place for custom cakes. They hardly pickup their phone so best way to order is to go in person. read more

I've had this spot bookmarked and decided to drop in one weekday afternoon. The entrance reminded me of old jewelry stores that have a black gate and you press a button to be let in. I almost looked for a button but pulled the door open and was greeted to the fresh smell of baked bread. It's so incredibly appetizing to smell freshly baked pan Dulce. I walked in and all the ladies were moving around talking amongst themselves. A woman asked how she could help and I ordered several conchas, different pan Dulce, and some cupcakes for the kids. While she bagged up my order I asked her if they have cakes with fruit fillings and she said she didn't but that they could make one if it was ordered ahead. They have fresh banana, strawberry, and peach fruit for the filling of the cakes. I paid for my order and I was on my way. The conchas were the perfect texture. I wish the top had more topping but it didn't impact the taste of the concha. The vanilla, strawberry, and chocolate conchas were amazing! I enjoyed them all! The rest of my baked goods were delicious too! The customer service was efficient. This is a CASH ONLY spot and the ATM inside will charge a $2.99 fee to withdraw money. So bring cash! They are limiting capacity inside the store. The parking is right in front of the store but it's one way in one way out so make sure you don't enter at the exit which is closest to the building. read more

Open from early in the morning to late in the evening, and right off the Story Road exit on 280, Pink Elephant Bakery is a great choice to satisfy your pan dulce fix. Like other panaderias in the area, nothing is labeled and there are no prices listed, but Ana, the staff member I spoke, to was very helpful about explaining all of the offerings in English. I ended up getting an assortment of things, such as empanadas with different fillings like guava, mango, and caramel, as well as a concha (a sweet bread with a crunchy shell-like topping) and a puerquito (a pig-shaped cookie that's reminiscent of a lightly spiced gingerbread cookie). Everything I got was excellent, but my favorite item was the capirotada. I'd never heard of it before, and I only know the name because the receipt lists all the items I bought, but Ana aptly compared it to bread pudding. It does have raisins in it, for those who are averse, but I really enjoyed the texture and flavor. Pink Elephant Bakery does offer online ordering (must order 48 hours in advance), but I really suggest going in person at least once just to see the full scope of what they have to offer. However, it's helpful to see the names of some of the items online. Prices are extremely reasonable, especially when compared to other bakeries and donut shops where you can't get anything for less than $3 now. I bought six items for about $13. The most expensive items I got were the capirotada and the filled empanadas for $2.50 each. Credit card is accepted on purchases over $10. Parking can be a little difficult depending on what time you go, since they share the lot with the restaurant next door. However, if you stop by in the morning before the restaurant opens, there is plenty of parking. I haven't tried their cakes or flans, and I wish they had more savory offerings (apparently they sell tamales, but I didn't see any available when I went), but Pink Elephant Bakery will definitely be a go-to for me going forward! read more
