My sister stumbled across Izumi Cakes while she was looking for something to celebrate our matcha loving cousin. Izumi seemed perfect given the fact that there are a good variation of sizes that could be bought. Not everyone is a matcha lover and our family tends to gravitate away from cakes, we appreciated the smaller options. The Kyoto Matcha was purchased. The design was simply but had a slightly fancy feel to it- exactly what we were hoping for! There was strong scent of matcha coming from the top drip design and we couldn't be more excited for our matcha bae. Fast Forward: The cake is super soft, fluffy, and oh so very light. The cake in itself was not super sweet- very typical of Asian cakes. The matcha flavor was unfortunately too mellow for us. 3 stars for the cake in itself but the rating is bumped up to a 4 because the presentation is so cute! Matcha wasn't what we were looking for but we may be inclined to try other flavors in the future.
This spot is takeout-only, so don't plan on stopping by for long. Finding parking isn't difficult but might take a minute on busy days, as it shares a parking lot with the rest of a popular plaza. The store itself is easy to find as well, with a clear label outside. Walking in, it looks half-closed--their cakes are all stored in a large refrigerator, with nothing in the case on the counter. There is a sign proclaiming "takeout only" in slight disarray, and the seating is pushed to the side. That said, the service is friendly and the employees are quick to help you and show you what they have in stock for takeout. I ordered the 4" Berry Berry Light Cake for a birthday, and they were able to write a birthday message on the cake board, which I really appreciated. The cake also tasted very light and the sweetness was subtle, which I really enjoyed. The berry flavor in the sponge was a little too subtle, though. My main concern is that the cake does not fully resemble the picture they advertised online. It is missing the freeze-dried berries on top, and the berry glaze did not reach as far down the cake as was shown in the photo. Because the berry glaze is the main source of the berry flavor, this was a little disappointing. Also, the cake was not finished when I came to pick up the cake (and I was ~5 minutes late). I'm uncertain if this is for freshness or if there is another reason. Overall, I like the spot for the fresh and light cake. It's pleasantly unique compared to your standard sheet cake, and everything is rather cute. However, it may be a better idea to buy the cakes in-person to be 100% sure of what it will look like, though daily stock is definitely more limited than if you place an order online. I hope they reopen their indoor seating soon.
Gem of a local cake shop with lovely decor patterns, fluffy and light texture, and a variety of Asian inspired flavors ! Preordered a cake and they even did a custom message for me which was very sweet Cake was very fluffy, good cream ratio, if I were to give it a sweetness rating I'd say it's like 50% sugar (would've liked it less sweet but it's good) Very beautifully decorated - I got chocolate this time but would love to try other more specialized flavors next time It was around 60 for this cake and it fed 9 people!!
We tried this spot for a joint birthday and were delighted with a really cute cake. They let us order a week in advance and then pick up. Taste: The taste was light. It wasn't personally my favorite. I usually like light cakes but if it were a little denser, it would have been perfect! The fresh strawberries were very nice. Appearance: 5/5 super cute!

I placed an order through their website which is very easy to navigate! The person on the phone when i called was very patient and explained to me the sizes and flavors they had. The earl grey cake was absolutely delicious. I am OBSESSED! The chiffon cake was moist and fluffy. The cake itself was infused with earl gray tea. Each bite was like a fluffy cloud of earl gray goodness. I cant wait to come back and try the other cakes!
Izumi Cakes have been on my list for a while now and my husband needed a birthday cake so I ordered his online a few days before pick up. They're located in a plaza so parking is abundant and free. The pick up process was easy - they ask for the name for the order and prepare the final touches on the cake before they hand it to you. I appreciated the free candle that came with it. The cake itself wasn't overly sweet and looked nice on the eyes. Overall, I'd get them again if I had another occasion that called for a cake.

Came here to pick up a cake for my cousin's birthday. I thought the cake was a little small but it turned out perfect for the occasion. Their 4" is perfect for 4-5 ppl to share. The cake itself is very light and not super sweet! Very delicate flavors all around! I would definitely come back to try more flavors.
It's my second time trying Izumi Cakes. First time my friends got the matcha cake for me and the second time my family and I got the mango cake. Both flavors were very clean and "not too sweet" (4/5 stars)! They have a few different cake flavors as well as cake sizes to choose from. Staff were pretty friendly. There's a few seating areas inside, not much of decor as they seem to be focused mainly on pre-ordered cakes to go.
It was a bit slanted but the flavor was great and I just love the size. It's unfortunately banned from my house though because it's too expensive for what you get. Service is quick as I ordered on the website and there's no ambiance because it's in T4. Design and marketing is cute, take a a grain of salt as this was two years back

I did end up coming another time, didn't pre order so was grateful they had a few available when I called in when they opened. By the time I went to go pick up only an hour after opening they were already sold out. If you don't preorder flavors are limited, we got the earl grey and the mango. The earl grey was tasty. The floral tea flavor was prominent in the cake, not too sweet and very airy. The mango was kind of whatever. I think the flavoring was just in the decoration/cream which a lot of asians don't normally always eat. Otherwise it was just a plain white chiffon cake, just as airry, but lacked flavor. It is pricey for what it is... at 4' so maybe the size of your hand the cakes go for about $25 Also I was surprised the inside is still all the t4 decor, as in the branding too and my credit card charge said t4 (so don't be confused when you see your charge)
Izumi Cakes is a hidden gem--literally! It's tucked inside a T4 boba shop, which can be a little confusing at first, but once you find it, you're in for a treat. They specialize in small, Asian-inspired cakes (perfect for 4-5 people), and we ordered the strawberry shortcake for a birthday. It was so good--light, fresh, not overly sweet (which I love), and beautifully decorated with a minimalist bunny design. They even added a cute chocolate "Happy Birthday" macaron, which was a thoughtful touch. Ordering was easy and last-minute-friendly--we placed it just a couple days in advance with no issue. Overall, a lovely little spot for elegant, not-too-sweet cakes. Will definitely be back for future celebrations!
I got literally the last available cake at 6 pm on a Saturday. Their matcha has a strong matcha taste and is not too sweet.

If you're been thinking about ordering a cake from here... just do it! Izumi Cakes has been on my list for quite some time, but I'm always so hesitant as I'm worried I'll be disappointed. Well, I'm glad I finally did as the cake I ordered was absolutely incredible. I'm definitely a "less sweet" kinda person and I also like my tea strong - I tend to drink matcha or hojicha lattes with no sweetness. The Kyoto Matcha Light cake was out of this world. The cake itself is so incredibly tender and the cream ever so lightly sweet - just enough to complement the natural bitterness from the strong matcha flavor. I was blown away at the strong matcha flavor too. It wasn't like a cake with some matcha flavor... it was like eating a matcha latte in cake form! SO GOOD! Ordering was a breeze online. I picked up my first cake order today... and already placed another one! I will admit that the cakes here are quite pricey. However, the quality of the ingredients is reflected in the price and it's worth it to me. read more

Izumi Cake is my go-to for every occasion, and they never disappoint. The cakes are light and beautifully balanced -- great flavor without being overly sweet, which I really appreciate. On top of the wonderful cakes, Jing has been absolutely lovely to work with. She's so kind and accommodating, always going out of her way to make sure everything is exactly right. Beautifully crafted, light fluffy chiffon cakes made in unique flavors and topped with a thin layer of cream and glaze surely to cap off any celebration! Izumi Cakes, located just blocks away from the Little Taipei mall in south Fremont and sharing space within the T4 milk tea shop, has made quite an impression with their fresh cakes sized in small (4 inch), medium (6 inch), and large (8 inch). The parking lot isn't too big but is also seldomly visited due to its variety of businesses here and being overshadowed by the main Little Taipei mall down the street certainly makes an impact. The main draw for their cakes has got to be their lightness - the chiffon style sponge cake is executed well and will not be too filling to eat. The light texture of the sponge cake is perfect for those celebrations following a nice meal and the flavors infused into the cake are perfect complements to any cuisine. Flavor options are also a highlight. Whether you're looking for something fruity or sweet or something more flavorful like their most popular, matcha or hojicha cakes, there will be something for everyone. Because the flavors are infused into the sponge cake and not only included into the glaze and cream on top, each bite is bursting with flavor. We came across Izumi Cakes in our search for a birthday cake and were instantly excited to hear about their offering of a hojicha (roasted tea) flavor. Their website supports pre-orders up to 24 hours in advance but since we were in a pinch for time, we called the day of our celebration at around opening time (11 am) and asked about reserving a cake. We were lucky as they happened to have their small hojicha cake ready by the time we were planning to pick up and the staff held the cake for us. Upon arriving, the staff at T4/Izumi Cakes were still working on other cake orders and fortunately, they remembered our phone call and we got our cake packaged up in no time. The size of the small cake was perfect for a group of 8 where each person had a small tasting. I'd imagine the larger ones could serve upwards of 12 to 18 people, however the larger 6 inch and 8 inch cakes will require advanced ordering. The hojicha cake was light and fluffy with strong tea flavor baked into the cake. The light cream and glaze added a bit of flavor and moistness to each bite but it was not at all too sweet. It was the perfect cake for our birthday VIP as they're on the more senior side and prefer lower sweetness levels. The prices are certainly competitive, however, it does seem rather high for the size of cake if you don't factor in the complexity of the flavor infused into the sponge cake and beautiful glaze decorating it. But compared to competitors, the cost is fair for what you are getting! Overall, Izumi Cakes will have you raving for their chiffon cakes as we became fans and very likely will be back for our next celebration. Being in south Fremont is a bit out of the way for us but it's worth the trek for their unique and strong flavors. Place the order ahead if you're planning a celebration or take the risk and pick up the smaller sized cakes freshly made on the day of. You won't go wrong with any of their flavors as Izumi Cakes has got their cake game (chiff)on point! read more
I was on the hunt for a smaller cake to surprise a friend for her birthday, and stumbled upon Izumi Cakes on Yelp! I loved the signature look of their light cakes, as well as some of their playful designs like the bunny and oreo cakes. The mark of a good dessert to Asian Americans is "not too sweet" which best describes Izumi Cakes. This bakery makes a small batch every day to focus on quality and you can pre-order via their website and schedule a pickup day/time. The hojicha cake sounded both intriguing and perfect, as my group of girlfriends are all tea & hojicha lovers. The cake was unbelievably fluffy, cream was refreshing, hojicha glaze had a strong tea flavor that was not overpowering and blended perfectly with the cream. And of course, not too sweet! Everyone loved it. Shoutout to the owner Jing who was quick to respond to an email I sent requesting an earlier pickup time. She was very kind and accommodating. I definitely want to try their other flavors sometime. P.S. I also wanted to note to reviewers about the price of these cakes. I saw one reviewer compare Izumi's prices to Paris Baguette and 85c Bakery. Just have to say, that is a really unfair comparison. Small businesses tend to have higher price points compared to chains because their cost of ingredients and everything is much much higher because they are not buying in as much bulk nor have business deals most of the time. A lot of them price to be barely profitable and put their heart and soul in their crafts! read more
I tried out the earl grey cake from Izumi Cakes. It did have a decent amount of earl grey flavor in it, and I liked the frosting (I tend not to be a fan of the main body of cake in general), but I didn't necessarily feel it was mindblowing enough to warrant the price as I felt it was rather expensive for the quantity. The packaging is cute though, I love the little strawberry logo. read more

Ordered twice from this place already, we like it a lot. The cream is very fresh, the cake is very smooth, and fruit inside is also fresh. I also liked the new black sesame flavor, not too sweet, perfect for Asian. The service is also very good, their staff are very friendly and nice. Even the drink there is very tasty. Possibly one of the best cakes I have EVER had - and thus now one of my two go-tos when it comes to all of my cake catering needs. Randomly nestled in a boba place in a shopping plaza, most people honestly wouldn't know they even sell cakes unless you find them online, which is also the easiest way to make orders. It's pretty simple - you make an online order and come in to pick up the cake. Asking about stuff like ambience is pretty much irrelevant since almost nobody orders large cakes and eats them on the spot (honestly very based move to do so), but I would say that the service is fantastic. They do try to be very speedy and the one time I ordered my cake for a party two days later, they actually gave remarkably detailed instructions/hints on how to keep the cake fresher for longer (because they make each day to order fresh!). Finally, the cake itself is very good. Pretty much every flavor I've tried (winter bunny, oreo cake, and hojicha) has been super creamy and not overpoweringly sweet (like most commercial cakes are). This is pretty much one of the best cakes you can ever get for someone who goes "oh, nice, not too sweet." It also allows the flavor of whatever flavor you select to be pretty prominent. For example, the hojicha flavor had one of the most potent hojichas I've ever tasted. Also, the boxing is pretty nice. Fantastic place and would recommend for anyone looking for a cake to wow someone with. read more

Located inside t4 Got the 4" blueberry light cake. When they say its light, they really mean it. It's sooooo light, pillowy, soft, fluffy, ect. The cake flavor itself was good too! Perfect amount of sweetness. Would possibly try their matcha next hehe Can't say much about the service as my bf got it, but the cake was ready for pickup when he went! read more
