Ube and taro mochi cake, $11.99
    Megan C.

Folks who are immigrants from Taiwan who thinks desserts should not be sweet (for example if a recipe states 1 cup of sugar, they beg for less than 1/4 cup of sugar) rate this bakery as 4 stars whereas I have a sweet tooth (I do not like sugar vomit but believe desserts should have sweetness; for instance I get boba drinks at 25% sweetness) rate this establishment as 2 stars because I also felt the products are probably days old since especially the sponge cake portion tasted fairly stale. Therefore when averaging it out, lead to 3 stars. YES the desserts are NOT sweet and are comparable to the desserts you purchase in Taiwan. So forewarning to those who have a sweet tooth and are craving a slice of cake! I ORDERED: #1 ube/taro mochi cake which tasted stale and likely depended on the natural sweetness of the ube and taro. #2 custard mochi which also tasted stale with lots and lots and lots of custard. Both mochi are not QQ like Japanese mochi but do have a subtle chewiness. SERVICE: Lady who helped me was nice. I probably should have spoken Mandarin but I was too lazy because she greeted me in Mandarin and gave me more expensive products than what I was asking for (ie 2 piece custard mochi for $6.80 vs 2 piece potato mochi for $7.50). BUT overall, friendly lady. AMBIENCE: lots of tables with cute large sized plushies to keep you company. LOCATION/PARKING: Across from newpark mall. Lots of parking in front and around. Shaded parking in some areas, too! Free and private parking lot.

This bakery here is amazing. My friend introduced us to this place. It's not too sweet (so no sugar crash) but it will satisfy your sweet craving. My favorite is definitely the taro cheese cake, and the pork floss buns. The people that work there are so nice and honest. There are a couple of tables inside for you to sit down and enjoy the items. It's cute with stuffed animals at every other table.

Their the Oreo crepe is a wow, soft center, and stuffed with crushed Oreos, whipped cream, and just the right drizzle of chocolate sauce. It's like dessert and nostalgia rolled into one perfect bite. Highly recommend if you've got a sweet tooth!

Friendly staff! Very patient with broken mandarin. Displays with pastries were clean and well put together. Got 4 egg tart pastries and the taro puffs. Family loved the taro pastries as they were perfectly creamy, not sweet at all, and the breading was so soft. The egg tarts were well loved too by the family and cat. Will be coming back!

I didn't get want anything from the bakery at the moment since I had a pastry early morning, but I decided to give this place a try and try one of their milk teas. Milk Tea is alright, but some Ube didn't blend in with the drink. It seems like that the place is still renovating since there are no TVs turned on and that there are rarely any decorations. Some stuff I'm seeing should be put at the backend. I also saw pictures of a large grey teddy bear sitting on the chair, which is quite nice. I'll max this rating up for four stars at the time being since I didn't get anything from the bakery. I'm hoping that this place improves soon. Also, some items I see from online such as cakes are not displayed at the display boxes. Perhaps, they are sold out? Remains a mystery at the moment.

Found this Asian bakery recently && it's been a legit addiction. This small little mom&pop shop is hidden, beside New Park Mall & Lazy Dog. It's a casual cafe (mainly for takeout), serving up Taiwanese desserts with a unique twists. Service is pretty straight forward and limited - as the worker's English speaking abilities are a bit restricted overall. But it's still easy to get by, by simply pointing + all goods are labeled in English with prices as well. Faves: (1) Mochi lava buns - these are soooo good!!! The regular cream filling is tasty, not too sweet and a little salty. The exterior though is what really makes this unique, the mochi exterior had a great chew to it. (2) Sweet potato/taro lava buns - this is just as good as the regular one above but a tad bit sweeter. The purple filling is nice and creamy, while the mochi exterior had that same great chew/texture. (3) Sweet potato/Taro cheesecake - another popular item and great for sharing since it comes with 4 pieces so it's a lot. The filling is a little more firm than the buns - but still that tasty, sweet, & creamy taro filling. THEN it's sandwich between...the fluffiest little cheesecake pillows that is so light and airy, it's to die for! Pass: (1) Egg tarts - this was unique but not my fave. Overall it looks great esp. with the unique shape and height, and as a modern version I can see the appeal in the pie like crust. But I'm a die hard OG Portuguese egg tart gal in love with a flaky crust, so this didn't cut it for me. (2) Taro with Pork floss - this was WEIRD, not my forte but my in-laws were all about. I understand sweet and savory - but it was too STRANGE for me...to eat pork floss amiss taro cream/cake. I just personally don't have the palette for it lol

I'm so glad I found this place! It looks like they're popular for their egg tarts, but I think their box cakes and breads are more incredible here. I got the hot dog bread and the bread itself was super soft and pulled apart nicely. Each layer of the cake was super flavorful. The staff is super friendly and great at sales because auds they convinced me to get 4 egg tarts when I was only going to get one. There's some seating inside, and some big plushies to sit with if you're alone.

This place is my new guilty pleasure. Ample parking and pastries are amazing. The selection isn't very big, but everything that I have tried so far is flavorful and the absolute perfect level of sweetness. Casual ambiance; very few people stay to eat. Staff only speak Mandarin Chinese, but I'm sure they'd be willing to help if you're willing to point. They do a 5% cash discount, and $10 minimum card. Every time I pass by with cash in my wallet, I take it as a sign that I was meant to get pastries that day, haha. Prices are a little higher, but well worth it for the quality of the goods. My favorites so far are the mochi taro cake and the taro cheesecake. The baked goods surprisingly keep really well; I forgot my taro goodies in the fridge before leaving for a weekend trip, and they were somehow just as yummy (even the mochi was still soft) when I got back. Everything is light in texture, and if you're a fan of taro, you absolutely need to try the goods here; the taro taste comes through this delicious paste they make. I'm not the biggest fan of their savory treats (I also can't stand pork sung on sweets), so I'd recommend their taro desserts or egg tarts instead. Haven't tried their milk teas yet, but seems very fresh and popular, seeing as they've sold out of a lot of their selection each time I've gone! Love the sweets here; I'll definitely be back!!

TL;DR: This is a cute woodsy-like Chinese Bakery home to baked goods. Be forewarned that most of their goods seem to be significantly under-sweetened than under Asian bakeries. They also don't speak English well but they are very eager to help you if you point. Pro-Tip: it is 5% off your entire order if you pay cash. If you use a credit card, it is a $10 minimum. parking: - lots of parking available as this location is on the outskirts of the Newark Costco. wait time: - no wait even though several patrons came in to order and left promptly afterward. ambiance: - clean, quaint, and slightly woodsy vibes with the twine-covered lights and brown leather chairs. service: - the employees don't speak English well but if you point, they will try their best to help you! - I will point out that even though their menu boasts a wide variety of drinks, they only had oolong and milk tea today. food: [Worth It] - Purple Sweet Potato Lava Mochi Balls: This was the perfect mix of sweetness and mochi texture! I would consider coming back just for this! [Good to Try Once] - Durian Mille Crepe Cake: You can tell fresh durian was used, however the taste was mild and left me unfulfilled. [Not Worth It] - Boba Egg Tart: these are not your traditional egg tarts as they appear taller and fancier. Yet, the custard tasted too mild for my taste. The boba toppings on the other hand, were surprisingly squishy still despite having sat out for several hours. - Red Bean Mochi Egg Tart: I think this item was mislabeled as "Mocha Egg Tart" because I didn't notice any mocha flavors at all. On the bottom of the egg tart, I was surprised to find a small layer of red bean and mochi. While this was a creative take on egg tarts, the lack of flavor from the custard created an overall lackluster experience. - Tropical Oolong (light ice and 50% sugar): this drink was terrible! It was so overpowering with sugar I couldn't bother to take another sip.

Food 5/5 it is genuinely a compliment when Asians say not too sweet and this place is not too sweet, it is the perfect amount where you can taste each ingredient in its natural form, we came an hour before closing and even then the baked goods taste fresh. The cake portion is the perfect texture super fluffy and very light! Service 4.5/5 was nice there was a bit of a language barrier the lady spoke mandarin and luckily I knew enough to point and ask for a specific amount the lady tried hard to ensure that the order was the correct one and was very nice throughout Ambiance 4/5 this is a neat space that would be a nice place to study, it is also near the mall and would be a good place for people to hang out

I don't want to call myself an eggtart connoisseur.. but I kind of am. Self proclaimed, of course. I've been everywhere in search of the perfect egg tart. Theres golden gate bakery, lung fung, CA bakehouse, kee wah, the list goes on and on. Rola has some fantastic egg tarts. What sets them apart from the rest is the unique shape, soft silky custard, and crumbly crust. The egg tart is tall rather than wide which gives you a unique ratio between filling vs. crust. The silky custard is just heavenly- its rich and milky with a slight egg flavor. The crust is similar to a soft cookie, not so much the flaky pie crust. Each egg tart is about $3 and they offer different flavors however the original egg tart was my favorite. Mochi cake- Many of the reviews mentioned this item so I decided to give it a shot. I found this dessert to be just ok. You get a lot of different textures: chewy from the mochi, starchy from the ube, soft and fluffy sponge cake, and of course salty from the pork floss. I am a total fan of the sweet and savory combo but it felt a bit heavy and I didn't enjoy it after a few bites. Ube cheesecake - THESE WERE SO GOOD. If you love cream cheese or cheesecake, definitely get this. They have real ube and you can really appreciate the taste rather than that artificial ube flavor. The cheesecake is so creamy and cheesy. It comes with 4 small little sandwiches so no need for a knife and fork. I would definitely get this again. Service was good. The lady at the cashier was quite chatty and took the time to make a personal connection with each customer. Some people might find that annoying if they intended to buy something real quick but I, as a health care worker, enjoyed the personable approach. The interior is clean and decorated simply to give off a cute cafe vibe. Theres quite a bit of small tables inside but most of the customers did take out when we visited. I would go out of my way to drive to Fremont for the egg tarts and the ube cheesecake alone. The desserts are high quality and the prices are pretty reasonable for what you get. Come check them out!

First time at this style bakery. They serve cakes, desserts, and milk tea/dessert drinks. And stop right there, you probably think it's just one of "those" bakeries, but they have deep-dish egg tarts! I've never knew they had deep dish variants so I had to give it a try. Scrumptious

A unique concept for pastries and desserts! Rola Bakery has a lot of taro-based, airy, and light pastries. I've tried their egg tart, mochi balls, taro cheese cake, and pork floss bun. My personal favorites are the mochi balls and taro cheese cake. Taro cheese cake (it is like a mini taro sandwich cake): the cake layers are super soft and airy, filled with a dense amount of taro filling, and light cream. It is something I've never seen at any other bakeries. Lots of tables and parking space available.

Both the sweet and savory pies are delicious, and I like that they rotate their menu with a mix of classic and more unique flavors. It makes it fun to keep coming back and trying something new. Some of my favorites over time have been the chocolate chess, cheeseburger, and berry custard pies. All very different, but all really good in their own way. Unfortunately, it was melting (my bad) when I finally got to eat it. Chocolate whole pie for others. Got other slices for friends to try and they enjoyed it. Pandan had a nice flavor, they don't use extract which is even better. Lemon chess was good - great lemon flavor and creamy. Will need to get French silk again to eat it as soon as possible or keep in fridge when ready to eat, haha.
