Pastries

You know these Filipino fusion pastries are so good that a line formed at 9 am, opening sharp. I had tried most of their sweet and savory pastries. I recommend getting the Mango sago croissant tart, Ube custard bun, and Kimchi cream cheese bun. These sold out fast before 1 pm. They even serve 8-inch pies on Thanksgiving and other seasonal pastries using farmers' market ingredients. You can also find them at the San Ramon farmers' market on Saturdays.

If you're reading this review right now, please stop and put Sunday mornings at 8:45 AM into your calendar immediately. Oh my God. This is easily some of the best bakery treats I've had in the area in a very long time. Their croissants, even the basic ones, are unbelievably buttery, flaky, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside, and honestly perfection. Ugh. I had their chocolate chip cookie and it was layered with thin slices of chocolate throughout. It's soft, topped with sea salt, has the perfect crumble, and I'm literally crying thinking about it right now. Rating: 5/5 The ube custard bun was really good. A cool, soft bun that isn't overly sweet, filled with fresh ube cream. Paired with black coffee, it's a great Sunday morning treat to start your morning off. Rating: 6/5 I also tried their pepperoni croissant with hot honey. I toasted it in the air fryer for three minutes and wow, absolutely unreal. Everything else I tried was next-level good. Rating: 11/10 They sell out within the first hour or two, so come early. I can't wait to keep trying more of their items, but this is already one of my favorite places for sweet treats. They're also partnered with Devout Coffee, which makes the experience even better. I absolutely love this bakery and have nothing but great things to say. The owners are so sweet and just had a baby recently - so check their IG to see if they are coming by.

La Kalidad is a must at the Sunday farmers market in Newark. I tried their pandan cruffin a few months back and fell in love. I now stop there when I can to get their seasonal flavors. I recently tried their blueberry calamansi cruffin and chocolate chip cookie. I was hesitant at first because blueberry and calamansi sounded like a strange combination and I lm not a fan of blueberries but got it anyway. It was delicious!! Their cruffins are always so flakey and their unique seasonal flavors are great. I especially appreciate the Filipino flavors that are incorporated in their baked goods. The chocolate chip cookie was also really good. A chocolate chip in literally every bite and so soft. I now make an effort to go to the farmers market earlier in the morning so that I can get all of the options here. If you go later in the morning or afternoon, they're almost sold out.

Mushroom and cheese, ham and cheese croissant and pandan cruffin

Five star review for my first purchase of goodies from La Kalidad. Never heard of this bakery offering traditional viennoiserie and with Asian/Filipino flavors. Friend has tried many of their items including pies and introduced me to their stand at the San Ramon Farmer's Market. Items purchased: :: Mushroom and Cheese Croissant - generous filling of cremini mushroom and cheese. I swear there was some cream as it was so flavorful and rich :: Ham and Cheese Croissant - flaky with plenty of buttery layers with delicious filling of ham and swiss with mustard :: Pandan Cruffin - oh my ...amazing! buttery, flaky texture and tossed in cinnamon-sugar similar to a morning bun and filled with some delicious Pandan custard! All I can say all items were amazing and calorie worthy! Oh I'm now a fan! Definitely will repeat and visit again as La Kalidad is great at their craft! No need to venture to SF to get amazing pastries. FARMER'S MARKETS Saturdays: San Ramon Sundays: Newark

Delicious pies. Ordered a few for Thanksgiving. You need to wait for the drop notification once you follow/subscribe via hotplate. Convenient pick up location and schedule at their San Mateo location.

Chocolate chip cookie

Their treats are served at Devout coffee in Fremont; absolutely phenomenal. Their cruffins are to-die for and their chocolate chip cookie is genuinely one of the best I've ever had.

Strawberry crostock

Discovered this place at the Newark farmers market and was so happy I did! I loved the Filipino inspired desserts and everything looked delicious. I ended up picking up a strawberry crostock and wasn't disappointed. The jam tasted perfectly sweet and was fresh and the croissant was crispy and melted in my mouth. It was also pretty big as well and was only $6! I would definitely come back and get this again :)

Ube custard bun. Absolutely delicious. Creamy custard but not too sweet.

At the San Ramon farmers market and lots of selection there. Glad I picked la Kalidad. Great pastries!

We try to stop by at least once a month. La Kalidad never misses. Filipino fusion baked goods. There are staple menu items that seem to stay consistently in the rotation, and part of their menu switches up every few weeks/months. Tried a few of their items so far, love the Uber custard bun. Creamy and light, always try to get one when we stop by. Favorite item that we've tried, hopefully they bring it back is the blueberry calamansi croissant.

Ube custard bun

Unique Ube Custard filled bun for $6. Got this at San Ramon Bishop Ranch Saturday Farmers Market. Not too sweet. Bread is really soft. The top looks like it would add crunch, but it didn't. Plenty of filling!

Forefront: Calamansi Blueberry Pastry (filled with calamansi filling above a blueberry layer).

Checked out La Kalidad at San Ramon Farmers Market on a Saturday. While all their baked pastries looked delicious, we were intrigued by the Filipino inspired flavors. We decided to try their Calamansi Blueberry pastry and Black Sesame Morning Bun. Food review: Calamansi Blueberry pastry (5/5): When you talk about eating with your eyes, the presentation of this pastry was exceptional with the cute edible purple flower petals on top. Crispy and flaky exterior of the delicate outer pastry shell was nicely balanced with the wonderful citrus notes of the calamansi filling above the blueberry layer at the bottom. Not overly sweet yet delicious. Worth it! Black Sesame Morning Bun (4.5/5): When we sliced this morning bun in half, we were impressed by the visual layer of black sesame seed filling throughout the bun. When you bite into the crispy layers, you can taste the delicate nuttiness and hint of the black sesame seeds balanced with the sweetness from the sprinkled sugar. The cashier was friendly; they accept cash or credit card.

The cake itself is delicious, but what makes it interesting is the type of fruit they use -- not Medjool or the usual Middle Eastern dates, but jujube (often called Chinese dates). That choice gives the cake a gentle sweetness with a subtle smoky note that sets it apart. Feb 21: For our first visit, we ordered quite a spread: the chocolate mochi bun, honey osmanthus cake, jujube cake, a loaf of chocolate bread (because there's no such thing as too much chocolate), and the pork floss with salted egg bread. The concept behind the pastries was appealing, which explains why we bought so much on our first trip. That said, the execution felt a little uneven. The osmanthus notes in the honey osmanthus cake didn't quite come through, the chocolate bun lacked depth of flavor, and the pork floss with salted egg bread turned slightly burnt even though we followed the heating instructions. Still, we were glad to have discovered the bakery. It's definitely worth a try.

I decided on the taro cheesecake. On the counter there were more bread-like products such as matcha loaf and more items with pork floss. I chose the red bean loaf. The red bean loaf was what I expected. It was like many other red bean loaf. The taro cheesecake were bite size. It wasnt sweet or dull. The taro seemed like real taro. It was more of a sandwich than a traditional cheesecake slice. Overall, I could see someone returning for their more savory items. My first impression and experience arent enough to drive myself to be curious for wanting more. P.S. egg tarts are available saturday and sundays

Immediately upon entry, you can see the huge display of neatly arranged donuts, malasadas, and pastries and they all look amazing! So many flavors to choose from that it was a little overwhelming. Parking is maximum 3 hours and there are some tables and chairs outside to sit and enjoy your goodies. Overall, I think I'm still going to stay loyal to Doughweime in Union City, but these malasadas do live up to the hype. Everything bagel malasada: Surprisingly really good, a light cream cheese filling with everything bagel seasoning on the outside. And the texture of the savory donut was crispy and airy. 9/10 Strawberry cream malasada: Kind of plain, would've been good with strawberry bits inside. 7/10 Biscoff cream malasada: You can taste the real Biscoff crackers in the filling. 7.5/10

I've been to a few other Chavez Markets like in Hayward and none of those are this large and spacious. They are definitely expanding and upping their game. What 99 Ranch is doing for Asian grocery, Chavez for this area is following suit. So this took over a much older building, which is why they have so much space now. The aisles here are crazy wide (which I love), wider than American grocery stores like Safeway. Everything is so stocked and lined up neatly, very regimented. The Produce Area was actually much smaller than what I was anticipating. Artegeas which is a much smaller and older market just across the street has a more impressive produce section. But they do have all the basics here, and to most I'm sure that's enough. Pricing just meh from my obsy. Food Maxx has a better produce section for Mexican dishes than here and probably better pricing. But I will still get produce here if I am already shopping here, so not a deal breaker. The Meat Section is the most impressive section here. Nothing is pre-wrapped in styrofoam trays, everything has to go through a meat clerk. The most variety on thin sliced meats I've ever seen. Different cuts of beef, pork even chicken. Some marinaded already, some plain for you to do you. I knew Mexicans loved their thin sliced meats, but this totally confirmed it for me. Lol Great chicken, pork and beef selections. No steaks or anything but lots of things to be either grilled quickly (thin cut meats) or things to be cooked long and slow. Lots of offal too, which perked my interest big time. They even have a huge taqueria in here, which I'm sure half these reviews will be on, even though this is a grocery listing. There should be a different listing for that taqueria as it'll clutter their listing. In my experiences I've never had good food at a taqueria that is inside a grocery store. It just seems more generic to me, like they don't have a whole lot of passion behind it, versus a business who relies on their food. Not sure if I'll ever try this prepared food here, but it is a pretty impressive space, even with a nice seating area that is nicer than most taquerias. I just love the grandness of this project, so big, so clean and so close to me. Being an avid cook of many cultures, I think I may be more stoked that this is here, than all the Mexicans in the parking lot at Home Depot next door are. I'm sure they are loving this, BUT I am REALLY lovin' this. Homer Fiver, no shame!

Some of my favorites over time have been the chocolate chess, cheeseburger, and berry custard pies. All very different, but all really good in their own way. Unfortunately, it was melting (my bad) when I finally got to eat it. Chocolate whole pie for others. Got other slices for friends to try and they enjoyed it. If you know, you know. The pastries here are absolutely worth the detour--and honestly, wherever I see a Paris Baguette, I do pull over. That includes locations I've visited in Northern California, North Brunswick, New Jersey, Atlanta, Georgia, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and even the one here in Charlotte down in Pineville. It's a bit of a drive for me, but when I'm in that area, I always make a point to stop in and pick up a couple of their delicious croissant-donut pastries and marzipan or almond croissants. That's the beauty of this bakery--it's a chain, yes, but the consistency is what keeps me coming back. I have yet to be disappointed. Of course, I had to stop at this Hilton Head location--and I didn't come empty-handed. Food connects people, and bringing pastries to your host is always a winning move. I picked up three different varieties of their famous croissant-donut style pastries (similar to the well-known cronut): * Chocolate * Tiramisu * Mango And I added two large almond croissants that were beautifully filled, flaky, and indulgent. Everything looked fresh, full, and irresistible. The setup inside is easy and efficient. It's self-serve: you grab a tray, line it with parchment, use the tongs, and select whatever catches your eye--from baguettes to cakes to coffee drinks. Checkout was quick, Apple Pay was accepted, and the whole experience felt smooth and well organized. The space was clean, friendly, and inviting, with plenty of outdoor seating. Bottom line: Whenever you see a Paris Baguette on your radar, pull over. It's dependable, delicious, and perfect for picking up pastries to share--or to treat yourself. For me, it's one of those rare places that delivers the same quality every single time, no matter the city--and that kind of consistency is something I truly appreciate as a traveler and lifelong foodie.

For starters this location is definitely a more pickup and go location. There is very limited seating and the space is also a lot smaller. But what they lack in space they make up in efficiency. I've never had an issue picking up anything here either through online orders or simply walking in to grab a cake. The staff are always on top of things. Now let's talk about the cakes. If you don't order ahead of time or reserve a cake in advance, then expect the consequences of not planning ahead. The cakes they have on display or the back may not taste the freshest. But in my particular case, I've been fortunate enough that every cake I bought from here was fresh and moist. The staff would even be kind enough to grab one from the back for me without even asking. I bring this up because for bakeries through put is very important on how fresh their products are and this location definitely goes through their inventory constantly. For mother's day they basically ran out of all their cakes so plan ahead for those big occasions. What I also appreciate is they are always able to do a special message for you free of cost, and I always end up tipping extra because you can rarely find this type of service at other cake shops. Because of their flexibility and availability, I will always recommend this location to family, friends and to you as well. Plan ahead and this place won't disappoint. Looking forward to continue coming back here.
